Firefox does not completely shut down when X'd out, I have to do a restart to completly close the program, is this common?

I just upgraded from 5.0 to 6.0 and the upgrade program told me that Firefox had to be closed before the new version could be installed. I had already X'ed out Firefox knowing that it needed to be closed before I could do an install. I finally had to do a restart before I could install the new version. This has happened in the past with other versions of Firefox. Firefox keeps running in the back ground for some reason and ends up using resources that are needed else where. In the past I have deleted Firefox from my computer to solve the problem, can you solve the problem or should I delete the program and use another browser?

Must be the "hang at exit" problem. You already know how to do Step1; now just determine which Add-on (Extension or Plugin) is causing the problem.<br /><br />

  • Firefox does not automatically shut down when I turn off my computer. It used to before this latest Firefox upgrade.

In the past, when I shut my computer down, Firefox would automatically close. Now, Firefox has problems closing at shut down. This happens every time I shut off my computer. I'm using Windows XP pro on a desktop.

Yep, that did it. Thanks for that tip.
However, the other issue is that whenever I start Firefox, the tabs I had open when I shut down do not automatically load. Again, this did not happen before the latest Firefox upgrade.
I have to say that I like the idea of AVG watching my back against malicious links, and not that it's disabled I'm concerned about viruses. Or should I be?
    Thanks again for the help.

  • Why has my iBook started to completely shuts down when power runs out?

I purchased my iBook G4 in early 2006 (OSX 10.4.11)
Until last week, I would regularly use my laptop until the battery charge was used up. I would get a low charge warning and it would automatically sleep. I could then plug it in to charge. When it was plugged in, I could touch the track pad or power button and all of the programs that were open when the power ran out would be there, just as I left them.
This has recently changed. Now when the power runs out, I receive the same low charge message, but instead of sleeping, my computer completely shuts down. When I press the power button to reboot, everything starts back up fine, but I get a message that my date and time are off and need to be reset. I then go to the Date and Time menu, which automatically updates through my wireless connection.
    My questions are:
    1. Why is it shutting down instead of sleeping?
    2. Why is my date and time reseting to an incorrect date and time?

The difference is that in the past, your battery shut the computer down when their was enough juice to safely sleep the machine. Now it thinks it has enough juice, but it's truly running out. The battery is necessary to maintain the date and time in the computer.
Your battery needs to be calibrated. You should follow the instructions at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1959.html
This will allow the battery to truly know how much juice it has left.

  • Firefox does not appear on screen when started from the start menu, but task manager says the process is running

Firefox does not appear on screen when started from the start menu or the shortcuts, but task manager says the process is running.

No - I get the message basically saying "Can't run program while Firefox is running. Please close down Firefox & try again".
I rebooted my computer and it all works now - but that's weird it was happening before. Kinda weirded out that it happened at all.
To avoid that happening again, I still wanna know what to do to avoid it or fix it for next time. Thanks

  • Why does my Safari shut down when loading a page?

Why does my Safari shut down when I'm trying to load a page?

Is this for a Mac? You posted in the Beta for Windows section, you might want to try the Beta for Mac pages instead and see if anyone there know a good fix. Is this just with Adobe's PDF reader, or with Preview too? A workaround could simply be switching to a different reader, if you simply cannot find what causes the crashes. A clean reinstall might do the trick, if you haven't done so already.
If this is on Windows than I would recommend downloading the PDF plugin from http://www.apple.com/safari/download/plugins.html

  • Satellite A100 does not "really" shut down

    Hey everybody!
I have a Satellite A100 here and the problem is ... yeah, it does not really shut down. I can choose "Shut Down" in Windows and Windows shuts down, the monitor turns black and the notebook does not work anymore, but it does not turn off itself. The blue lights are still glowing. To switch off the system I have to push the on-off-switch for a few seconds.
The problem occured three days ago. I don't think it's a virus (someone on the net assumed that), because the system has no connection to the internet and has'nt seen any usb-stick or whatever for at least half a year. The user told me he changed the energy-options from "Toshiba Power Saver" to "Desktop". Of course I changed it back, but this did'nt solve the problem. I also did'nt find anything helpful in the options. Anyone out there who knows the problem or knows what to do? :-)
    Greetins,
    coincidence

Unfortunately, I can't. I choose "Shut down" in safe-mode and the operating system does a simple reboot. The notebook does not turn off at all.
Thanks so far. :) Merry Christmas!

I have an iMac and also a MacBook. All of a sudden my iMac does not recognise my Canon 500D camera even though I have downloaded 1000s of photographs from it via the USB port.  The MacBook recognises the camera immediately. Can anyone help?

Thank you for your reply.  I know I can use a card reader however I don't see why I should when importing directly from my camera has worked reliably for years.  The process I use is simply connecting the digital output from my camera to the USB port on the iMac, which has previously automatically opened iPhoto ready for the import.  Now all of a sudden my iMac does not recognise the camera.  However if I connect in the same way to my MacBook then iPhoto opens automatically on the MacBook, recognises the camera and is ready for importing.  So whilst I know I can use a reader, or my MacBook I want to use my iMac in the same way that I have for years.  I can only assume that the settings on the iMac may have changed, but I cannot verify this.

  • Ff 33 does not fully shut down

My FF v 33.0 stays open in processes under task manager.
All my other browsers do fully shut down.
I have reloaded FF on my virus/malware free computer but FF will not completely shut down.
    Very annoying.
    Please help

    Hello,
Try opening in [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] and see if the browser closes properly after opening in that. Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes). Since Firefox has trouble closing, make sure that it is not running in your Task Manager before opening in Safe Mode.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>
    [[Image:Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win]]
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds.''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

  • Why does my Mac shut down when using Safari?

Every once in a while (randomly) my mac will reboot due to an error even when I only have the Safari Application open. How can I stop my mac from doing this. I have the 2011 macbook pro 13 inch with the latest OS (Mountain Lion). Everything is up to date but why does it keep shutting down?

Hi Sebaz, first try repairing permissions. Go to Applications-->Utilities-->select Disk Utility. Select your drive then select the First Aid button then  at the bottom right click Verify Disk and after it verifies your drive click on Verify Disk Permissions on the left. If there any errors click on Repair Disk Permission. Reboot your machine and test your Safari to see if the issue comes back.

  • Why does my macbook shut down when the lid is closed?

    Hi,
    I have a Macbook Pro (mid-2012) running 10.9.1
Last week out of the blue, the Macbook started shutting down whenever I close the lid.
When I open the lid, the logon screen appears (as if it's been asleep as normal) but almost immediately reboots itself.
Has anyone else got the same issue? Any idea how to resolve?
    Thanks

If after you open the lid you do get the login screen, almost immediately, but then it restarts your system is not shutting down when you close the lid. It is going into a sleep state but then crashes when trying to come out of that sleep state. There are quite a few posts on this problem and it seems to be caused by the system going into the Deep Sleep state also known as the hibernate mode. That is where the contents of the RAM is written to the hard drive and the system suspends supplying power to the RAM chips so the system uses even less power then in regular sleep mode.
That is only supposed to happen after the system has been in the regular sleep mode for an extended period of time.
To check the state of the huiberbnate mode open terminal and type in, or copy and paste, this command.
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
To check the state of all power management settings use the command.
    pmset -g
