Firefox does not download exe. files

Past few days when I select "download" it shows OK in the download list but says "Cancelled" so I retry and it downloads ok (I think), but I cannot open it. I have looked at several options in the forum and checked settings using safe mode etc but error continues. I v tried to redownload Firefox, but problem still remains. I have no antivirus. I am running Vista 32 bit .

Do you have any extensions installed that might be interfering with the download functionality in Firefox? This article explains how you can disable or uninstall add-ons: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-remove-add-ons
Another "if nothing else works" method you might want to try is Reset Firefox -- it resets the common Firefox settings to the defaults while saving your personal data such as your bookmarks and passwords: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-preferences-fix-problems?s=firefox+reset&r=0&as=s
Hope any of this helps!

  • Firefox does not download pdf files properly

On my progressive website, when I try to view pdf documents, I click the document, nothing happens, but the file is downloaded into downloads. However, the file is downloaded as (example) test.pdf.part?
This website works flawlessly using the fault android web browser, and I can see in the notifications that the file is being downloaded. Subsequently clicking it and opening the file in Adobe.
Firefox had updated at least 4 times since I reported this issue Terry is still broken
Please don't all for the link to the problem because you can't get there without logging into my account with progressive. The site works, it is Firefox that's still broken.

    Hello.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.
And yes, that applies to Adobe Reader plugin too. This isn't a bug with Firefox.

  • Aria2 does not download multiple files at a time

I'm trying to speed up my system upgrades by using aria2, but it won't speed up anything as it does not download multiple files at a time.
As per this wiki post, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Im … erformance , "using aria2", I've installed aria2 and added the line
    XferCommand = /usr/bin/aria2c --allow-overwrite=true -c --file-allocation=none --log-level=error \
    -m2 --max-connection-per-server=2 --max-file-not-found=5 --min-split-size=5M --no-conf \
    --remote-time=true --summary-interval=60 -t5 -d / -o %o %u
to the options section in pacman.conf. Pacman still works, but it isn't sped up. When pacman -Syu'ing, a normal line shows:
    #1 SIZE:1.3MiB/2.0MiB(63%) CN:1 SPD:50.0KiBs ETA:15s
    What's going on?
P.S. I use the line reflector -l 5 --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist before doing a system upgrade.
    Last edited by bruno321 (2011-05-15 15:27:45)

Using aria2c will download files over 5MB with multiple connections but will not download multiple files at the same time. Pacman calls aria2c with the first url, waits for it to finish, then calls aria2c with the second etc...
If you want to download multiple packages simultaneously, see http://xyne.archlinux.ca/projects/pacman2aria2/

  • Safari not downloading exe files for vista

The only problem I have with Safari is that it won't save downloaded exe files. As the download finalizes, an error box pops up.
"Windows found that this file is potentially harmful.
To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file."
I went to the Windows Security control panel to see if I could turn it off. However, it only offers help for Internet Explorer. Any help is graciously appreciated.

The hatter is correct. Safari uses the Windows "attachment manager" interface to allow virus checkers and other security software to validate downloaded files.
More info on the attachment manager:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883260
It is likely that a virus checker (or related software like Windows Defender) is flagging the files as being infected or otherwise harmful. You might want to check the AVG and Windows Defender logs to see if they indicate any problems.
Another possibility would be that your system is configured through group policy or via the registry to flag these files as high-risk, which disallows them from being opened. Refer to the Microsoft KB article above for more information.

  • Firefox does not put the file extension ".exe" onto the firefox application, and the browser will not open.

I downloaded firefox 3.6.6 from the website, followed the install directions and the browser does not open. I opened the task manager and firefox.exe was not in the process list. Locating the target using properties from the desktop icon if found that the application file did not have the ".exe" extension that it showed in the icon field for location. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with the same result. I am running windows XP Media Center Version 2002 service pack 3.

This would usually only happen if the originals were .doc, .dot, .docm,  .dotx or .dotm files and someone changed their extensions. Does your Office installation open docx files created in Word 2013? If not, perhaps the Office installation is
faulty. In that case, try repairing the Office installation (via Programs & Features > Microsoft Office > Change in the Windows Control Panel).

  • Clicking on PDF files on the internet does not download with file extension

When I click on a PDF link it downloads the file but does not save it as a ".pdf" file extension. When using the "save as" function in mozilla the ".pdf" file extension is included.

Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

  • Crossover 8 does not open exe files., Crossover 8 does not open exe files., Crossover 8 does not open exe files.

Okay, I am just frustrated in trying to get Crossover 8 to launch exe files after installing and reinstalling for 5 times just to read one Windows document. I tried other versions such as 9,10, and 12(I couldn't get 11 as I have tried, including Wine 1.2 and 1.6). Can anyone help me? I would really appreciate it.

There are many Windows applications that either won't work at all or that only work partially with Crossover. I'd suggest, as Eric said, you take up this issue with Crossover Support or on their forums:
    http://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?;t=27
You'll be more likely to get help there, though you'll need to tell people there specifically what applications you're trying to run.

  • Firefox does not open PDF file. IE can open the file.

I am on a National Parks Service site and want to open a brochure. It is a PDF file. When I select the file nothing happens. If I open it in a new tab I get a blank screen. The site is good because I can open it with IE.

In firefox: Tools -> Options -> Applications->PDF Document...Select: Use Acrobat Reader & press OK
it opens in adobe acrobat reader in main application, not in browser... This is my preffered action :)
    That is it ;)

  • 5.1.2 update does not download PDF files

After 5.1.2 update I can no longer download PDF's. Help, need to print shipping labels from USPS

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, monitor, and Ethernet, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account that has the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, perhaps including wireless networking on certain Macs. If you usually connect to the Internet via WiFi, and it doesn’t wohrk in safe mode, connect using an Ethernet cable. If you can’t do that, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and perform a safe login, as follows: Enter your credentials at the login screen, then hold down the shift key and click the “Log in” button. Keep holding the key until the menu bar appears. In this mode, your login items, among other things, won’t load.
In safe mode, test again. Same problem(s) now?
After testing, reboot (if you booted in safe mode) or log out/log in (if you performed a safe login) as usual.

Then open FF, tools, options, application settings, search "visio" and change the default to open with Visio. There might be cases where even though Visio is displayed, you'd have to browse to Visio.exe on your Office install path.
This is tested and worked on XP/Win7 with Office 07/10.

Newly installed Firefox 6.0.2, running on XP SP2. Selecting Print from the File drop down menu with no results. No printing, no print dialog box, no error beep, nothing.

I honestly think the OP is making the correct decision to quit using Firefox due to all the print-related problems and Bugs that are in Firefox, '''that Mozilla doesn't want to fix'''. And there are more Bugs that affect only the Mac-platform (like the one where the user has to open a page in a new window for the 2nd web page printed from that window), than there are on Windows and Linux.
Users having to reset hidden preferences repeatedly isn't a cure.
The same 3 print-related Bugs in 2002 that caused me to take 6 months to switch over to ''Phoenix'' from IE 5.5, '''are still present in Firefox!''' I print nothing from Firefox these days without viewing Print Preview first, then about 10% of the time I do a "View in Opera" and do a Print Preview there - which shows a good print out 95% of the time (which IMO shows the page isn't at fault), and print it from Opera.

  • My Firefox does not open pdf files on websites - is this a setting in Firefox that I can change to allow this ?

Lately I am finding more and more sites with pdf documents that I am prevented from opening when I use the link to them. It appears to go to the link but only loads a black screen. When I press reload it becomes a white screen but nothing else. Is this something within Firefox or could it be a firewall or security issue on my computer. The links and documents open properly with Internet Explorer.

  • Firefox does not delete the .part file from my download folder after a successful download

First off, I'm on a MacBook Pro, running 10.6.4 and FF3.6.12
I've recently noticed that on occasion Firefox does not seem to delete the .part file associated with a successful download. The .part file (with a name consisting of a string of random characters followed by a .part extension) is visible in my Download folder stack, although not visible in the actual folder view. I cannot drag this file from the stack to the trash.
The real problem stems from the fact that this seems to create a directory error on my hard drive. Were I to run Disk Utility (which I will have to do... again!), it would return with an error saying something like "incorrect block length", requiring me to boot up from my install disk and repair the drive.
Is this maybe a bug? Is there something I might be doing wrong? Could an extension like AdBlock be messing up my downloads?

It seems that FireFox leaves those partial download files if for any reason they get interrupted. It's possible to resume the download through various uninteresting means, but if you're like me, it gets filled up with files that I intentionally did not complete downloading.
If you're terminal-savvy, you can set up a script that cleans up old .part files. Here's what I've set in my crontab:
    0 * * * * /usr/bin/find ~/Downloads/*.part -atime +1 -exec rm {} \; &> /dev/null
It will delete any files in my downloads folder that are at least 1 day old.
To install this in your crontab, launch terminal and type "crontab -e"
This will bring up a text editor, probably vi. You'll see a bunch of ~'s down the left side. Type "i" to go into "insert" mode. The bottom left will say "-- INSERT --"
Copy and paste (or type) the line of code I have above.
Hit enter just to make sure you have a newline at the end.
Hit "Escape" to exit the insert mode.
Hit Shift-Z Shift-Z (that's Shift-Z twice) to exit the editor.
You should see a status message "crontab: installing new crontab"
If you type "crontab -l" you should see your newly installed crontab.
At the top of the next hour, any .part files that are more than a day old should be deleted, and this should continue forever.
