Firefox does not open at all! Troubleshooting solutions do not work.

My operating system is Windows XP. Firefox installed a new update two days ago. It caused Firefox to crash repeatedly and was a pain in the bum, but seemed to sort itself out after three restarts and a lot of frustration.
Turned my computer on again today (two days later) and when I double click Firefox, the egg timer shows for about two seconds, but the program doesn't open. Neither will it open if I right click and select Run, or if I open it from the Start menu.
I've restarted my computer, that has made no difference.
I started to copy my profile information and make a new profile, as the troubleshooting guide suggested. However, when I get to the point where you run the Firefox Executable file, I get an error message apologising for Firefox crashing, and offering to report the problem to Mozilla. This has happened three times.
I can't reset Firefox, because it doesn't open.
Apparently uninstalling and reinstalling won't help, and I don't want to lose my bookmarks. Any suggestions?
Thansks!

I have had the problem of Yahoo! mail freezing (my computer freezing) with Firefox right after I boot up my computer and sign into my Yahoo! mail account. I have to either shut down my computer or use Control + Alt and press Delete to eventually bring up the Task Manager option. Then, once the choice for Task Manager comes up, I can click on cancel and Yahoo! mail and my computer have "un-frozen." I have followed all the recommendations for updating Firefox, clearing caches, checking if an Add-On is the problem, etc., as well as all the recommendations on Yahoo! help pages. Nothing has improved the situation to date. Firefox info says the problem is with Yahoo! Yahoo! says it is a browser problem. I just want the problem to be fixed.

Firefox does not work on my new phone, motorola razr i (XT980). When finishing the download from googlePlayStore it says, that the package is invalid. (I use the german interface, so I don't know the exact translation being used). I suppose this is because of its Intel processor. Will it be supported soon?

Yes, I have this very problem on my newly bought device too.

• Help: Firefox does not work in XP Pro limited account

Firefox 3 only works in administrator accounts. I tried:
- To grant full control to Firefox folder and to grant limited user to run Firefox
- To change the type of limited user ABC to administrator account and installed Firefox 3, then change ABC back to limited account. Firefox does not work.
I have similar problem with Opera.
Other programs such as IE, MS Office, Adobe,... work fine. Diskeeper and PC-Doctor require admin privileges.
My machine is X61. I have Kaspersky IS 7.0 installed.

Hi,
Thanks for  your reply.
Yes I know Firefox can work without admin privileges. I just have no clue why it does not work in my case.
I installed Firefox from administrator account, following on screen instruction. I did not modify anything. It installed into Mozilla Firefox folder under Programs Files folder.
By "does not work" I mean when in "limited account" (not in admin account) I doubleclicked the Firefox icon on the desktop nothing happened. Same situation with Opera.
I found a way to run Firefox: I rightclick the Firefox icon and choose "run as..." In the dialogbox I choose "administrator" and key in the password. It works normally. Also work with Opera.
I know Thinkpad has its own security system. I just can not figure out whether this system could intervene XP Pro operations or not. I think this should not happen.
Hi admin,
I'm sorry I accidentally post the above reply creating a new thread. Please help delete. Thank you.

• Firefox does not work after update to 3.6.6 (and all later revisions)

(EDIT: I found the exact revision from which the Firefox is not starting, it is 3.6.6 so I changed them throughout this post, previous revision value was 3.6.8)
I am using Windows 7 x64
After Firefox recently updated to 3.6.6 it does not work any more. The application is listed in task manager but it does not do anything. There is no user interface or anything. Only way to interact with it is "End process". Starting in safe mode or starting Profile manager is not possible.
I tried all possible and suggested solutions in mozilla KB, this and other forums but without success (windows safe mode, firefox safe mode, renaming firefox, waiting, checking for firewall or malware/virus issues, deleting profile, uninstall, clean reinstall and every possible combination of those that I could think of). Always the same result, no error message, firefox shown in task manager and that's it.
When I do clean install of all later firefox revisions starting from 3.6.6 the problem remains, including latest Firefox 4 beta6.
I have no issues with any firefox versions on my Vista laptop, so I would guess that something in my windows environment is not suitable for newer versions of firefox.
As I cannot find official older 3.6.x revision of Firefox, I am currently using 3.5.13 and it works flawlessly.
Any help is appreciated, I ran out of ideas.

Also do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.<br />
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.<br />

• Can I get rid of 36? It installed an update and now firefox does not work at all

firefox 36 is seriously broken
It updated on my computer and now does not work at all. I've tried all the suggestions and no help.....going back to IE

Hi wskossack, I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with Firefox 36. I am also sorry that we have not been able to get that working for you yet.
If what you really want is to uninstall Firefox we can do that. Of course I have to ask if you would be willing to let my help you to get the most up to date version of Firefox working. But, Firefox is all about the ability to customize. If you want we can install the last version of Firefox and you can use that until the next version comes out or while we work to get Firefox 36 working for you. I will try to cover every option in my reply.
First I will cover uninstalling Firefox. If you want to look at the article click here this can be done in about 7 steps
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Firefox and install it again. This will most likely fix any problems you have right now. Because you are asking how to do this I am going to assume that you have not tried this.
If you have Vista or Windows 7:
1) close any open Firefox windows.
2) from the start menu click on control panel
3) click on uninstall a program
4) from this list chose Firefox
5) click on uninstall (this is located turds the top)
If the Uninstall Wizard does not run, you can start it manually by running helper.exe, which is located in one of these locations by default:
(32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall\helper.exe
(64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall\helper.exe
6) in the Firefox uninstall wizard click next and on the next page click uninstall then click finish
7) to remove other files and folders that may not be removed by the uninstall, you must manually delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations by default:
(32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
(64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
The uninstaller does not remove any user data such as history or bookmarks. To completely remove this data, you must manually delete the Firefox folder containing your user profile:
Click the Windows Start button.
Type %APPDATA% in the search field and press enter to open the hidden Roaming folder.
Open the Mozilla folder
Delete the Firefox folder.
Now I am going to go over how to get the last version of Firefox installed on your computer. If you want to look at the article click here . If you decide that this is what you want to do please look at the article for some impotent security information.
Firefox 35.0.1 was the last version of Firefox and you can get it by clicking here . The link is also in the article. If you do this you will have to disable the auto update. To do this go to options, then go to advance. Under advance there will be a sub tab. You want to go to update. Then you can select to never check or to have it tell you when there is an update.
So the only thing left is for me to help you with any problems you are having with Firefox 36. I hope you will give me a chance. In any case, if you need any more information or help with anything that I went over please let me know.

• Firefox does not work with the USPS self ship web site. Will not allow printing of postage labels.

Some months ago, user "junkbondman" asked this question somewhat poorly, and partly as a result got a non-responsive boilerplate answer by someone who did not read the question's key (if cryptic) point:
> Select a service type. THIS IS WHERE THE WEB SITE FAILS TO WORK PROPERLY
That's too bad, because 16 other users identified "HAVE SAME PROBLEM" - as had, no doubt, a large majority of the 677 viewers of the question. However, maybe to get a better answer we need to start with a better definition of the problem.
The way that the USPS site <cns.usps.com> works to print a label is that addresses (return and forward) are defined, the package weight and value are specified, and then a shipping mode is selected before paying and printing the label. The shipping mode is selected in a section titled "Select a service type", via an embedded table using a vertical scroll-bar that Firefox cannot handle. [Firefox is not alone in that. For example, Safari under iOS cannot scroll the embedded table, but USPS provides a mobile app which mitigates that problem by presenting the table differently.]
Now, it should be stipulated that the table is the worst element in a bad page that does not begin to pass W3 validation [71 errors, 19 warnings - looks like government work]. However, other browsers (like Google Chrome) handle that table with apparent ease. The question is whether Firefox should be able to do so - and, if so, how? As of Fx 33.0, this still does not work.
NOTES:
(1) Unfortunately, to examine this problem requires setting up a USPS account in order to see the shipping page. Setting up the account is easy, but it is a small extra burden to examining the problem.
(2) The problem has been reported to USPS, but has elicited no sign of intelligent life.

I get the "pointer" mouse cursor when mousing over the blue bar, and I can click on it and scroll the contents as with any other scroll bar, but the bar doesn't move up and down in sync with the content being scrolled: it just stays put. If I do not slide straight down, the blue bar may twitch a pixel left or right.
Great description! - sorry if you implied that earlier and I misunderstood, but I think that description adds crucial details:
* must hover over the blue part of the bar (representing the visible part of the table) and
* get the "selector" cursor (the pointing finger), then
* hold that click while scrolling (inside or outside of the table doesn't matter, as long as that click is held) to the needed table row, then
* release the click, and the table stays in place to allow a selection.
Most pages with an embedded scrollable input form (like the box I'm typing in on this page) do not change to the selector cursor when hovering over any part of the scroll bar, either blue (representing the visible part of the input form) or white (the invisible part of the input form). And it is common to click in the white part of the bar as a way of saying "show what is not visible". You can't do that with these USPS input forms, which behave differently.
Now, even with this method, that remains a very unintuitive (because the scroll bar does not reflect the position, and because the actual selections never get the "selector" cursor) and awkward way to work, so there is no visual feedback on either part of the operation.
And, I must try to understand why some browsers treat this differently. For example with Chrome (like Firefox), the cursor changes to "selector" in the blue part of the scroll bar, but not in the white part, but with Chrome (unlike Firefox):
- a click in the white ("invisible") part of the scroll bar or
- a drag on the blue ("visible") part of the scroll bar
causes movement in the required direction - altogether more intuitive behavior.
Bottom line: At least there is a way to make this work with Firefox, but it is awkward, to say the least. It will require a lot more thought to think about:
* how and why some browsers handle these non-standard input forms with such intuitive behavior (that is, behavior that is familiar in more standard input forms),
* whether the fact that Firefox is less accommodating in that regard is a reportable bug, or whether Firefox should not have to worry about sites (like usps.com) that can't be bothered to comply with standards.
What do you think about those questions?

• Can i sync phone when your firefox does not work and I can not have it on android mydesk top works great with fire fox

fire fox slows down and does not work on phone. but works on desk top . stilll need them to sync now can they still sync and why have you not made version for moto milesstone

The Motorola Milestone has a low amount of system RAM and that causes very poor performance. Because of this we don't support running Firefox mobile on the Milestone.
To set up sync you need to create a sync account on desktop Firefox. Then on the mobile device press the connect to sync and then go to desktop Firefox and enter the Sync code.

• Since I have upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1, it has been constantly freezing up. Now it does not work at all and I am unable to remove my profile. How can I remove my profile if Firefox does not work?

I finally got so tired of Firefox freezing my computer that I tried to uninstall and reinstall. Upon reinstall, it will not work at all and I am unable to delete my old user profile. Is there any way to get rid of this profile so I can give one last attempt to get Firefox to work before switching permanently to Google Chrome? I really liked Firefox for years until they screwed it up with the recent changes.

Try running Firefox in Safe Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
