Firefox does not retain my font/zoom size ?

The submit feature menu page brought me here so I presume that iceweasel and firefox will behave the same. Recently I upgrade from 3.X.X to 6.0.2 and 7.0.1, and I noticed that whenever I visit a particular web page, and I notice the fonts are too small, so I enlarge/zoom it using control-vertical scroll to the right font size I prefer. But the next click I make put me back to the old default font size. Ended up I have to control-vertical scroll on EVERY page I visit. This was not like that when I was using 3.X.X version. And I checked other browsers they are not like that too. This behavour is it a feature or a bug ? It's really annoying to me. It is definitely not friendly to people with visual difficulties.

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.

  • Firefox does not inherit GTK+ font settings

The Nvidia drivers for the GTX 660ti gpu seem to be breaking the font rendering in Firefox' UI. I doubt this issue can be resolved here but in the meantime if anyone is experiencing the same problems their input would be valuable.

It is even lower when you remove the first description you gave of the problem, with the screenshot you provided then.
I answered what I thought was the problem in the .gtkrc-2.0 file; you could have just quietly said it is not the solution in your case, showing what you have already in the file. No need to use an unpleasant tone.
the best I can do for now is cross my fingers and hope for a driver update to fix it
It would be better to file a bug report at the nvidia driver site, and at Mozilla bug report site, as you told that it concerns only firefox.
I edited it to [fixed] so people would skim over it
But those seeing the thread title could think that it provides a real fix, which it does not.
I will now leave you with your hope for a satisfying fix from more qualified guys than me.
    Bye.
Sorry about that, I've spent roughly 5 hours non stop trying to fix this issue, the most recent one leading me to believe the issue is not with Pango either. I hate to be walking on eggs so I hope you'll understand I did not mean to be condescending at all.

  • Firefox does not retain size options

This was not a problem until the 3.6.15 upgrade. When I adjust a page to the size I want, it used to stay that way. Now though I am constantly having to resize. Now frequently if I open my browser and it opens up the tabs that were open when I closed it, if I go to the first tab and then to the others, the pages will 'jump' to the size where I want it.
Now it never used to do that 'jump'. It opened how I wanted it to and stayed that way.
Also, sometimes when a page is how I want it and then I go to another tab, when I return to the first one, it has shrunk. This happens about 25% of the time. I have no idea why.
This is time consuming and frustrating to always have to check and resize. The upgrade to 3.6.16 did not fix it. Is there something I can do?

  • Firefox does not retain my proxy settings.

Everytime I launch the browser I have to reset the proxy settings in order for it to work. I don't use a proxy but Firefox seems to think I do and assumes that i use some random proxy that it populates. I don't have this issues with other browsers so its not my connection settings.

I have the same problem and have tried all those things. I have also tried deleting the Firefox profile and restarting. I have also tried reinstalling and not adding any addons. I have even removed Firefox registry keys and any Firefox files left by the uninstall before attempting to install it again. No matter what I do, Firefox begins to stop retaining any history. This all started when I upgraded to 4.0. It is frustrating because I have seen all over the net that others are having this problem. I backed up to the 3.6 version and that fixed the problem. After a while, I decided to go ahead and go back to 4.0 to see if the issue would stop. But it does it again!

  • Firefox does not retain my history files, how do I retrieve them ?

I have been using Firefox for the longest time now, but lately I noticed that when I check my history files, that there are none.
And no my teens did not delete them, because when I am on the computer for an extended time, and check, there are no history files, they are not registering in my browser.

  • My computer is on a local network. When I access my computer as a local user, Firefox does not render any @font-face embedded font correctly for any website.

I have tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling, creating a clean profile, and other things. The CSS is correct because it works for every other supported browser...event this particlar installation when used with a network login. Other computers on our network (but not ALL) seem to have similar problems, but only when someone logs on to the machine locally (not via Windows Active Directory).
The browser attempts to render the embedded font, but it appears jagged, so it's not that the CSS isn't getting seen, the browser just doesn't render it smoothly. Are there any particular settings that I should look at? On every machine I've tested, both the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled (true) and gfx.use_text_smoothing_setting (false) configuration settings have been the same.
I realize that there could be some differences regarding network local computer policy for network logins vs. local logins, but I have no idea how that might pertain to Firefox specifically.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Firefox does not display specified font (Helvetica)

I updated Firefox to version 10 this evening, only to find that the font Helvetica no longer seems to display where it should on 90% of web sites. It displays as Arial instead.
It displays fine on other browsers, and even on limited sites in Firefox, however even setting up a test page with just one line of text and the font set to Helvetica via CSS, the font continues to display as Arial.
    I've tried the following:
    - Changing Helvetica to other fonts; they display correctly
    - Tried Helvetica in different sizes; large or small, it doesn't work
Any ideas? Whilst this is a minor issue, as a web designer it's very annoying!
    Thanks. :)

Do you have a true type or open type version of the Helvetica font installed?
You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).

  • Is there a way to increase the icon size (and the text below) without using zoom?  I am trying to help out someone who has moderate visual impairment that does not want to use zoom just to see the icons and their labels.

Is there a way to increase the icon size (and the text below) without using zoom in iOS 7?  I am trying to help out someone who has moderate visual impairment that does not want to use zoom just to see the icons and their labels.

    Hello Apple.
It seems you have gone to great lengths to improve accessibility in many areas of the iPad. Why was this obvious problem with icon text size missed?  (It's not with the Mac.). And for so long too.
Do you employ people with actual accessibility problems to help you do UI design?
I think too, that some buttons are too close for people who might have motor control problems.
I love my iPad but I fear as I age, the iPad might not keep up with me.

  • Firefox does not allow my on-line bank account security phrase to be retained - why?

    Hello,
I have successfully used MS Internet Explorer to log into my on-line bank account in the past. Since changing to Firefox my login process has become incumbered. The bank requires a security phrase as a part of an initial personal PC to bank account security setup measure, which security phrase information is supposed to be retained on my PC for subsequent logins into my on-line account. I still need to enter the usual username and password, but for some reason Firefox does not allow the security phrase information to be retained on my PC and so I have to enter the security phrase each time I log in. I called my bank's IT department and together we tried changing some Firefox settings, but none of them fixed this problem. I also have AVG and Super Antispyware loaded on this PC.
Do you have a solution to this problem?

The arrow to open the tab history of the Back and Forward buttons has been removed in Firefox 4.
Use one of these methods to open the tab history list:
    * Right click on the Back or Forward button
    * Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens
You can look at this extension:

  • Since the latest update to OX I have been unable to download the contents of some emails because pages does not support the font they are created in. Is there a fix for this?

Hi, since I installed the latest update on my Mac I have been unable to open the contents of some emails because it is saying that pages does not recognise the font. For example it is saying 'some features aren't supported, the font Calibri isn't available on OS X. It was replaced with TrebuchetMS' This means that I cannot open letters from my daughters school. Is there any way round this other than getting rid of this nightmare MAC and going back to Windows!?

Had the same problem; would have been nice if they had told s that we need an intel processor on our older Macs! I am up and running again.

  • Copy and Paste on Safari 5.0.2 does not retain formatting

    Hi there.
I'm on Safari 5.0.2. and when I copy and paste something (in this case, on a message board--vBulletin, but it doesn't work on anything else) it does not retain the original formatting (for example--bold, italics, underline, etc.) If I copy something from Safari and paste it into another program, TextEdit for example, the formatting remains and works fine.
This is extremely annoying. Anyone have any ideas?
*If you're on Safari, try copying* and *pasting this sentence in a reply* --it will remove all the formatting for some reason. It will work in TextEdit, however. It's not just this message board software either...try it somewhere else too.

    Hi
copying formatted text & pasting in Safari does retain the formatting, so long as the place you're pasting it supports varying fonts/styles.
So copy/paste here, just shows as plain text.
c/p to blogger.com in the 'compose' tab - works fine
c/p to blogger in the 'html' tab - plain text
same with textedit: paste from safari to textedit +in a plain text document+ -you get plain text.

  • Browser: Print to PDF does not retain hyperlinks

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone can give me some guidance.
I have several html pages that contain numerous hyperlinks throughout the page
On each page there is a javascript print button (ie. onclick="window.print();returnfalse..........)
Whenever a user chooses the option from the print dialog box to print the page to Adobe PDF,  the output (pdf) does not retain the hyperlinks.
Is there a way, feature, or product that will allow external users to print to pdf and still have the hyperlinks work?

Printing to PDF never includes interactive elements - it is what it says, a digital copy of a printed page. No links on a sheet of paper = no links on a PDF printout.
To retain interactive content you must save the page as a PDF, for example using the Acrobat plugin for IE or Firefox.

  • Firefox does not delete the .part file from my download folder after a successful download

First off, I'm on a MacBook Pro, running 10.6.4 and FF3.6.12
I've recently noticed that on occasion Firefox does not seem to delete the .part file associated with a successful download. The .part file (with a name consisting of a string of random characters followed by a .part extension) is visible in my Download folder stack, although not visible in the actual folder view. I cannot drag this file from the stack to the trash.
The real problem stems from the fact that this seems to create a directory error on my hard drive. Were I to run Disk Utility (which I will have to do... again!), it would return with an error saying something like "incorrect block length", requiring me to boot up from my install disk and repair the drive.
Is this maybe a bug? Is there something I might be doing wrong? Could an extension like AdBlock be messing up my downloads?

It seems that FireFox leaves those partial download files if for any reason they get interrupted. It's possible to resume the download through various uninteresting means, but if you're like me, it gets filled up with files that I intentionally did not complete downloading.
If you're terminal-savvy, you can set up a script that cleans up old .part files. Here's what I've set in my crontab:
    0 * * * * /usr/bin/find ~/Downloads/*.part -atime +1 -exec rm {} \; &> /dev/null
It will delete any files in my downloads folder that are at least 1 day old.
To install this in your crontab, launch terminal and type "crontab -e"
This will bring up a text editor, probably vi. You'll see a bunch of ~'s down the left side. Type "i" to go into "insert" mode. The bottom left will say "-- INSERT --"
Copy and paste (or type) the line of code I have above.
Hit enter just to make sure you have a newline at the end.
Hit "Escape" to exit the insert mode.
Hit Shift-Z Shift-Z (that's Shift-Z twice) to exit the editor.
You should see a status message "crontab: installing new crontab"
If you type "crontab -l" you should see your newly installed crontab.
At the top of the next hour, any .part files that are more than a day old should be deleted, and this should continue forever.

  • I am trying to use a website that requires that my computer have the lastest version of Java, which I have updated and installed, however Firefox does not recon

I am trying to use a website that requires that my computer have the latest version of Java, which I have updated and installed Java 7 Update 51 (64-bit), however Firefox does not recognize that I even have Java on my computer. My computer is 64-bit
When I run "Verify Java Version" it show nothing is installed... but it is, I know that for a fact because it shows in my "Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features".
When I go back to the Java Download page, the following message is visible:
"We have detected you may be viewing this page in a 32-bit browser. If you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers interchangeably, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java in order to have the Java plug-in for both browsers."
    My question is this:
Is there a way to change my Firefox browser from 32-bit to 64-bit.... because it appears that this is way Java is not functioning properly?

Firefox needs 32-bit plugins, so you'll need to install 32-bit Java for Firefox.
No, you can't change Firefox from 32-bt to 64-bit. There is a Nightly 64-bit version (alpha) of Firefox, but it is used only to test for regressions until development is resumed.
