Firefox does not retain my proxy settings.

Everytime I launch the browser I have to reset the proxy settings in order for it to work. I don't use a proxy but Firefox seems to think I do and assumes that i use some random proxy that it populates. I don't have this issues with other browsers so its not my connection settings.

I have the same problem and have tried all those things. I have also tried deleting the Firefox profile and restarting. I have also tried reinstalling and not adding any addons. I have even removed Firefox registry keys and any Firefox files left by the uninstall before attempting to install it again. No matter what I do, Firefox begins to stop retaining any history. This all started when I upgraded to 4.0. It is frustrating because I have seen all over the net that others are having this problem. I backed up to the 3.6 version and that fixed the problem. After a while, I decided to go ahead and go back to 4.0 to see if the issue would stop. But it does it again!

  • Firefox will not retain all saved settings on BBC Website

The BBC Home page will not retain all settings.
The local area page (weather and news) is fine, but each time I increment the number of news stories, both national and local to the maximum, it returns to the default when I restart Firefox. It worked fine on previous versions of FF.
I have deleted the cookie and restarted FF, and this worked, but it has now returned to the default. FF=4.0.1

Its not just the web site that is recorded, but the page also.
Did you open your history ( '''Control Shift H''' ) and search for the site ?

  • Safari does not using system proxy settings (charles web proxy)

Using OSX 10.7.3 and Safari Version 5.1.3.
I start Charles, the web debugging proxy. On start, Charles adjusts the proxy settings in the Network Panel of System Preferences as expected. But Safari does not / will not honor these settings.
Has anyone else had this problem?

You have to apply the change before it takes effect.

  • Firefox does not inherit GTK+ font settings

The Nvidia drivers for the GTX 660ti gpu seem to be breaking the font rendering in Firefox' UI. I doubt this issue can be resolved here but in the meantime if anyone is experiencing the same problems their input would be valuable.

It is even lower when you remove the first description you gave of the problem, with the screenshot you provided then.
I answered what I thought was the problem in the .gtkrc-2.0 file; you could have just quietly said it is not the solution in your case, showing what you have already in the file. No need to use an unpleasant tone.
the best I can do for now is cross my fingers and hope for a driver update to fix it
It would be better to file a bug report at the nvidia driver site, and at Mozilla bug report site, as you told that it concerns only firefox.
I edited it to [fixed] so people would skim over it
But those seeing the thread title could think that it provides a real fix, which it does not.
I will now leave you with your hope for a satisfying fix from more qualified guys than me.
    Bye.
Sorry about that, I've spent roughly 5 hours non stop trying to fix this issue, the most recent one leading me to believe the issue is not with Pango either. I hate to be walking on eggs so I hope you'll understand I did not mean to be condescending at all.

  • Firefox does not retain my history files, how do I retrieve them ?

I have been using Firefox for the longest time now, but lately I noticed that when I check my history files, that there are none.
And no my teens did not delete them, because when I am on the computer for an extended time, and check, there are no history files, they are not registering in my browser.

  • Firefox does not retain my font/zoom size ?

The submit feature menu page brought me here so I presume that iceweasel and firefox will behave the same. Recently I upgrade from 3.X.X to 6.0.2 and 7.0.1, and I noticed that whenever I visit a particular web page, and I notice the fonts are too small, so I enlarge/zoom it using control-vertical scroll to the right font size I prefer. But the next click I make put me back to the old default font size. Ended up I have to control-vertical scroll on EVERY page I visit. This was not like that when I was using 3.X.X version. And I checked other browsers they are not like that too. This behavour is it a feature or a bug ? It's really annoying to me. It is definitely not friendly to people with visual difficulties.

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.

  • IPhoto does not retain slide show settings

I'm making a simple slide show using the Ken Burns effect. Some of the transitions work well, but others cut off the tops of heads and titles I imported from another program. I find Title slides very difficult to create in iPhoto but that's another story.
There doesn't seem to be any way to save or finalize a slide show. Just when I think I've set it the way I want, it takes over and starts cutting off pieces of the images. I have tried cropping within iPhoto, or editing in Photoshop using the "edit in external editor" option. My changes do not get saved so there are ridiculous unprofessional chopped-off slides. I'd like this to look right before I post it at my organization's website and am getting frustrated.

Success! Thank you so much. I would have replied sooner but I spent the morning going through your advice step by step and every time I gave my slide show a tweak - it worked.
As I enter this reply I am exporting the slideshow so it can be uploaded.
In case this should be helpful to another user I'll go through your queries:
Are you creating the slideshow directly from an album of photos or user the iPhoto Slideshow mode?
    • I am still blundering along figuring out the distinctions between Events and Albums. In this case I imported my slides into the Photos section, in carefully numbered sequence because on my previous import they ended up in a confusing mess. I dragged and dropped the numbered files into the slideshow I was creating.
Are the cut off photos in the portrait orientation?
    • Mostly, but not always.
Are you using the Ken Burns theme or applying KB to selected photos?
    • I used KB, even though I knew I was asking for trouble…
    What theme are you using?
    • KB was the theme I picked because it seemed to work best for this set of images. I tried Classic with dissolves but after tweaking using your information, preferred KB and am using it.
First guess is that you have the optiion to Scale photos to fill screen selected:
    • I was completely ignorant of this feature. Very important!
If you're using a specific theme some of them do not handle portrait oriented photos well. They do get cut off at top and bottom.
    • I will keep that in mind for future slide shows.
Also set the aspect ration to TV: 4:3 unless the photos are in the widescreen size ratio: 16:9
    • This may have been the final setting for success.

  • Firefox does not retain size options

This was not a problem until the 3.6.15 upgrade. When I adjust a page to the size I want, it used to stay that way. Now though I am constantly having to resize. Now frequently if I open my browser and it opens up the tabs that were open when I closed it, if I go to the first tab and then to the others, the pages will 'jump' to the size where I want it.
Now it never used to do that 'jump'. It opened how I wanted it to and stayed that way.
Also, sometimes when a page is how I want it and then I go to another tab, when I return to the first one, it has shrunk. This happens about 25% of the time. I have no idea why.
This is time consuming and frustrating to always have to check and resize. The upgrade to 3.6.16 did not fix it. Is there something I can do?

  • Firefox 29.0.1 Does Not Retain Options Settings. Cookies Enabled.

On only one of my XP profiles, Firefox 29.0.1 does not retain the settings made under tools-options. I have deleted the cookies from Mozilla on the chance they may have been corrupted and have also cleared the web cache. The problem remains. Also, it is not clear in the new version how to have Firefox ask you each time before a cookie is accepted. Thanks for you help.

You can try to delete the cookies.sqlite and permissions.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Director: Show Folder (Linux: Open Director; Mac: Show in Finder)
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
You can inspect and manage the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
    * Click the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar
    * Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
    * Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab

  • Firefox does not allow my on-line bank account security phrase to be retained - why?

    Hello,
I have successfully used MS Internet Explorer to log into my on-line bank account in the past. Since changing to Firefox my login process has become incumbered. The bank requires a security phrase as a part of an initial personal PC to bank account security setup measure, which security phrase information is supposed to be retained on my PC for subsequent logins into my on-line account. I still need to enter the usual username and password, but for some reason Firefox does not allow the security phrase information to be retained on my PC and so I have to enter the security phrase each time I log in. I called my bank's IT department and together we tried changing some Firefox settings, but none of them fixed this problem. I also have AVG and Super Antispyware loaded on this PC.
Do you have a solution to this problem?

The arrow to open the tab history of the Back and Forward buttons has been removed in Firefox 4.
Use one of these methods to open the tab history list:
    * Right click on the Back or Forward button
    * Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens
You can look at this extension:

Firefox does not display the e with acute accent character correctly from a javascript alert box when my browser language settings are fr_ca or fr_fr. However, it does it correctly when my browser language setting is fr. How do i get it to display e with acute accent and other iso8859 characters correctly in a javascript alert box when my browser language settings are fr_fr and fr_ca?

    Every time Firefox opened

Use Unicode (UTF-8) for those characters.
Then you will always be sure that they are displayed correctly.

  • Firefox is configured to use the Cisco ScanSafe proxy but althought IE manages local webservices correctly, Firefox does not

We are testing Cisco ScanSafe, a SaaS proxy/web protection solution. You use it be filling in a proxy server on port 8080. In IE everything works fine but Firefox seems unable to distinguish local from internet sites. I have a host that I approach with http://bugzilla2 that Firefox keeps on sending through the proxy which it shouldn't as I have configured the exception in the no proxy setting to exclude 192.168.0.0/16.

go to '''TOOLS '''then '''OPTIONS''' then '''ADVANCED''' then '''NETWORK tab''' then '''SETTINGS tab''' and select the options '''NO PROXY''' click '''OK''' and '''OK '''again in the next screen. With that you have disabled the proxy settings.
''if you like to not disable the proxy settings choose'' : '''Auto-detect proxy settings for this network''' (it is in the same session)
    thank you

  • Firefox does not save my tabs or sessions when I shut down my computer

    To be more clear:
Yes, I have set my options to "show windows and tabs from last time".
No, I did not check "clear memory on shut down" or "start private session"
Also, it saves my tabs when I restart the browser, but when I shut down my computer and start up again, Firefox does not show my tabs from last time. The same thing happens with sites I've logged onto before; it logs me out after I shut down my computer.

Did you check the "Clear Recent History" settings to be sure cthat you do not clear the Browser history and the cookies?
