Firefox doesn't add the installed Silverlight or Flash plugins

Ever since Firefox updated to 17.0.1, the flash and silverlight plugins just disappeared.
I tried to clean installing the flash player, it did not work. I tried clean installing an earlier version of flash player, that did not work either. The plugin manager is less than useless as it says the plugin has been successfully installed yet I cannot use Netflix nor any flash video. I did all of the above once again with all plugins and addons disabled, and still nothing happened.
This is getting really frustrating and I am in fact contemplating moving to chrome after the string of crappy, forced updates mozilla has shoved down my throat... PLEASE HELP!

I am using Windows 7 64bit Ultimate and for some reason I had a problem that I have seen many people on here was having and was blaming Firefox's Plugin Container when watching Netflix or anything using Microsoft's Silverlight. But it isn't the Container that is causing the "Silverlight Plugin Has Crashed" problem. I just talked to Microsoft about it and found the solution on fixing it. The problem is the Computer Browser.
You go to "run", then type in "SERVICES.MSC" when that pops up scroll down to "Computer Browser" highlight it then in the left hand side at the top you will see "Restart the service". That's it. Restart computer...problem solved.
I have read so many posts about this with people coming up with all sorts of things to try to fix this, but none has worked....for me anyway.
So do this and I'm sure you'll be happy again.

  • Music on my phone lost.  When I sync to I Tunes it doesn't add the music.  phone updated to 6.1.  how do I get the music back in the phone.

Music loaded to my phone is lost.  When I resync to I Tunes it doesn't add the lost music.  My phone was updated to 6.1.  Any suggestions on how to restore the music to the I Phone?

If the music is in iTunes you should be able to sync it back to your iPhone.
What settings do you have in the iTunes Music tab for your device?
    Is Sync Music set?
    Is Entire music library checked?
    What happens when you sync?
If iTunes is confused and thinks the music actually is on your iPhone you could try unchecking Sync Music and then sync. Follow this by checking Sync Music and then sync again.

  • Firefox doesn't delete the browsing history in the address bar

No matter what you do with Firefox in clearing the browsing history by going to History -> Clear Recent History and deleting everything or resetting FF by going to Troubleshooting information, Firefox doesn't delete the browsing history. The website you have browsed still appear in the address bar.
Several people already have complained about this issue (see thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/939028) and the answer from the Firefox staff is that there is got to be a malware. This is not true, I've seen versions of Firefox in clean computers both Windows and Mac with Firefox doing the same thing, or more like not doing what it's supposed to do: clean the browsing history.
How unsafe is that. Where is your privacy? Firefox has to find a way to fix this glitch. Something tells me they're doing it on purpose because it hasn't been fixed after the complains.

You can delete the places.sqlite file if you aren't able to clear all history.

  • Firefox crashes every time at the moment I enable flash plugin. I've uninstalled and installed a plugin again with no positive result. What should be done?

Firefox crashes every time when I enable a flash plugin. It started today after an automatic attempt of updating shockwave. I've uninstalled flash and installed it again. Still the same story. There are no previous version of flash available on adobe site. What should be done?

I have Firefox 3.6.8 and newest version of Flash. I've followed all recommendations made by Firefox support, changing plug in container settings, changing hang time, nothing helps. I'm forced to disable Adobe Flash or Firefox crashes whenever the Flash plug-in is needed. There are numerous reports of this problem throughout the Firefox troubleshoot help pages. No one seems to have a good answer to fix this. I now keep Flash disabled and use it only when going to a web page that needs it. If I find myself on such a page, I can go into tools, enable flash and do a reload. For some reason, this works. The reload will let Flash do its thing and Firefox won't have an APPCRASH. Once I leave that page, however, I must disable Flash again or I'll experience a crash the next time Flash is called upon. I really like FF but have downloaded Chrome and am now playing with it to see if I like it enough to use it as my primary browser. It's a shame that FF can't come up with a fix as hundreds have the same complaint.

  • APSB11-05 Does not update the version of ActiveX flash plugin in Add and Remove Programs

After installing the latest update for flash player and ActiveX flash plugin the version of adobe flash plugin remains with the old version, when it actually updated the plugin. The only way to get it to update is by removing previous version and do a clean install. This can certainly affect our software inventories.
    Is anybody else experiencing this?
    Thank you in advance

Hi, It has always been recommended to Uninstall any current version of Flash Player prior to Installing the update.
Flash Player doesn't "add" to what is already there, it's a complete new version.
I'm not clear on your setup or software inventories. Perhaps some more information would help.
    Thanks,

  • LastPass password manager doesn't work with latest Firefox after downloading add-in, installing it and re-starting Firefox.

I'm using FireFox 20.0. I downloaded the add-in, installed it and re-started FireFox but LastPass doesn't show up in the add-ins nor does it fill in the login info on sites that I have in my LastPass vault.

What I've done is make LastPass my home site so when I launch FireFox, I log into LastPass and leave the LastPass vault page in an open tab. Then when I log into another site which requires a login and password which I've previously set up in LastPass, LastPass logs me into that site automatically. LastPass is a free password manager that works well in IE. Any time LastPass detects a login page, it enables you to set up the password and ID in its database and fills in the login info at future login prompts. My solution for FireFox is a bit clunky but when I need to use a second browser, it works.

  • Firefox doesn't let me install a dictionary toolbar from Collins. It says the toolbar "doesn't have a safe update system". But I want this toolbar so much! How can I install it?

I downloaded the toolbar from the Collins language site. I just searches and translates words based on the online content from Collins language website. Why is Firefox forbiding me from installing my toolbar?

You should contact Collins and ask them to update that Toolbar extension. It has been a few years now since Mozilla coded Firefox to reject extensions that have an '''updateURL''' that isn't on a secure '''HTTPS''' connection, for security purposes.
If you have that extension saved to your disk and it is in the '''XPI''' format, you could open that package with a "zip utility" program (like WinZip) and edit the '''''install.rdf''''' by removing the '''updateURL''' line of code. Also, look at the '''maxVersion''' line of code to see if it says '''3.6.*''' - if not you need to edit that line too. When you're done with the edits, repack the XPI file without using compression. You can then try to install that XPI package using File > Open File in Firefox and see if it works in Firefox. Chances are that it won't, as there were other changes to Firefox at the time the "update only from HTTPS" was introduced.

  • Firefox doesn't save the settings

As the question might say this version of Firefox (5.0.1) doesn't save the settings u do to it...For example my problem is with the toolbar and the buttons i add to it...i have tried to customize it as i previously had it in the earlier versions of firefox but it doesn't save them...i need to customize them from the beginning whenever i close and open firefox...even when it updates the add-on's and restarts it still needs to be customized...i have also checked many forums and apparently i am not the one having the same problem...some also can't save the bookmarks but that is not my case...i have recently downloaded a Premuimplay Codec-c add on and also a Facemoods and maybe ththose interfere with firefox even though i doubt it
The addon's that i definitely wanna keep on the toolbar are IMTranslator,WOT,Read It Later,Save-To-Read,ADBlock Plus and also the Home button never stays in the place i move him when i customize the toolbar
    Regards
    Albi
PS:(some add-ons don't work with firefox 5.0.1 but i guess thats the developers problems right?

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • My firefox doesn't memorize the option of always saving in desktop. it always asks me where i want to save even if i chose the option to always save in the desktop.

in the firefox settings i chose the option of saving downloads in desktop instead of always asking me where to save. but, no matter what i do, i always get the save window when i want to download something, the default is always "open with" instead of "save file" and it doesn't allow me to chose the option to repeat the save for the same kind of file from now on. so, every time i download something i have to click in "save file" and "ok", but in the settings i have "save files in desktop", so i don't get it! why can't it be memorized?

You can try "Reset Download Actions": http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions
You can also try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the [[Safe mode]] start window.

  • Firefox doesn't remember the last used download directory that I saved to when it restarts!

Even when I have firefox set to ask me where to save files, it's default location is still the folder selected under "download options", instead of the last location I saved to.
I suspect that this has something to do with the "download.lastdir" option in "about:config", which disappears everytime it's restarted and only appears when I have saved a file before checking on it.
Firefox used to remember the last location in which a file was saved. This was simpler and more convenient.
Is there a way to solve this problem?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I installed version 3.6.6

    Deleting "browser.download.lastDir" makes firefox unusable.
It's very annoying. I'm sick of the update to 3.6. It's getting worse with each minor update.
Hour after hour researching about this odd behavior sucks!

  • Firefox doesn't remember the window size

I recently upgraded my monitor and got a larger one. Now when I open FF it opens at a maximized window that doesn't fill the entire screen. So I'm forced to "minimize" it and "re-maximize" it. But when I close it does not remember the true maximized screen size.
I already tried clearing localstore.rdf and by resetting menus under Safe Mode, but neither option worked.

If Firefox is maximized then unmaximize to make the window smaller and close Firefox to save that setting.
After restarting you can maximize again.
Window sizes and positions are stored in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder].
Delete ''localstore.rdf'' or rename to '''localstore.rdf.sav''' in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to test if the file is corrupted.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf
(caution: do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder)
    Note:
Deleting the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] will reset the customizations of the toolbars to the defaults.
You can rename ''localstore.rdf'' to '''localstore.rdf.sav''' to test if that solves it.
Then you can restore the customization by copying ''localstore.rdf.sav'' to ''localstore.rdf'' if it didn't work.
