Firefox doesn't delete the browsing history in the address bar

No matter what you do with Firefox in clearing the browsing history by going to History -> Clear Recent History and deleting everything or resetting FF by going to Troubleshooting information, Firefox doesn't delete the browsing history. The website you have browsed still appear in the address bar.
Several people already have complained about this issue (see thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/939028) and the answer from the Firefox staff is that there is got to be a malware. This is not true, I've seen versions of Firefox in clean computers both Windows and Mac with Firefox doing the same thing, or more like not doing what it's supposed to do: clean the browsing history.
How unsafe is that. Where is your privacy? Firefox has to find a way to fix this glitch. Something tells me they're doing it on purpose because it hasn't been fixed after the complains.

You can delete the places.sqlite file if you aren't able to clear all history.

Are that entries that appear if you click the arrow at the far right of the location bar?
Do these items have a star to indicate that they are bookmarks?

• I have a pc, and i accidentally deleted the address bar in my safari browser and no longer have any view options to get it back

I have a pc, and i accidentally deleted the address bar in my safari browser and no longer have any view options to get it back. I uninstalled and reinstalled safari twice, but the address bar still isn't there and neither are the view options. If there anyway to get it back?

I'd try the following user tip with that:

• Firefox is slowly deleted my browser history older than 6 months. How do I keep history forever?

I just noticed that my browser history older than 6 months is slowly being deleted day by day. How do I prevent this from happening? This has only started happening recently. I have my settings as "Remember history". I want to keep all my history forever. Are there any configurations I can make to achieve this?
Thanks for your time.

Firefox automatically calculates how many pages to keep without affecting performance and saves that value in the transient_max_pages pref.
You can create a max_pages pref to override that current maximum, but it is better to leave those prefs at their default.
You can see the current value via the read-only pref places.history.expiration.transient_max_pages on the about:config page.

• MyWebSearch in my Firefox browser. When I open Firefox, even with my homepage set to Firefox....the address bar is still mywebsearch. I have been inthe regrister and viewed, I have checked programs etc. I have downloaded 3 malware/spyware programs.

I cannot get rid of MyWebSearch address bar in FF. I have followed directions here and done everything possible. There is not program showing that contains address.
I have deleted and updated FF twice. Please help.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

• Is there a way to make sure firefox does not erase the address bar list

First of all I have no idea where I am supposed to ask this so forgive me if I am in the wrong place. I have noticed when firefox erases it's history all of the web addresses are erased from the location bar. This is a huge inconvenience. Is there a way to 1: customize the bar quickly with all my favorite websites and 2: prevent firefox from erasing the address list in the location bar?

# See [[How to customize the toolbar]] and [[Bookmarks Toolbar]]
# Don't clear browsing history. See more info in [[Clear Recent History]].

• My address bar is gone. How do I get to show up at the top of each page? I thought I was deleting a link and it deleted the address bar instead.

My address bar was accidentally deleted from the top of each web page. I thought I was deleting a bad link but instead deleted the whole address bar. Need advice. Thanks.

View: Customize Toolbar.....
Drag address box BACK up into position....

• I inadvertently deleted the address bar, how do I reinstall it?

I was 'cleaning up' all the Bing, Yahoo stuff at the top, and found out later, I no longer had an address bar. Along with it I lost other information that always went along the top, like file, edit, tools, help, etc.

The following support articles should help, the method shown in the first one to re-select the menu bar and other toolbars may solve all the problems - [[menu bar is missing]] and [[Back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]].

• Does Firefox have a setting for retaining cookies similar to the 'Preserve Favorites website data' setting found in I.E. so you do not delete cookies from favorited websites when deleting your browsing history?

In I.E. when you want to delete your browsing history, the Internet Options tab allows you to retain the cookies for the websites that are listed in your 'Favorites'. With this preference enabled, you can delete your browsing history regularly without having to maintenance your cookies that you need. My bank requires that I register my computer for security reasons. The registration process places a cookie on PC. My browsing history is set to delete upon logout and I'm concerned that I will have to re-register my PC every time I log in or I will have to maintenance my browsing history every time I clear it. Does Firefox provide a feature so I can retain certain cookies that I want to keep?

If you use [[Clear Recent History]] or other means to clear (all) cookies then those specified cookies will be removed, even if there is an allow exception.
You can let all cookies expire if you close Firefox and make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

• How do I keep the new tab page thumbnails visible even after deleting my browser history?

Every time I delete my browser history, I notice thumbnails of my pinned sites on the new tab page disappear. Is there a way around that; or something that can be done so it doesn't occur in future versions of Firefox?

Current Firefox versions use a separate thumbnails folder to store those images, so clearing the cache should no longer make them disappear.
However clearing the history will prevent any slots from retaining the URL.
If you want specific pages to show on the about:newtab page then you can drag a bookmark or history link into a slot to pin a web page.
Do any of the slots have an URL displayed under the image placeholder?

• I can not delete my history and adding new bookmarks. Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't help. The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.

I can not delete my history and adding new bookmarks.
Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't rectify it either.
The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.
Also, I have noticed that every once in awhile you can not close tabs you've opened, either by pushing on the X button and/or clicking on the mouse to close it. Although closing the window and opening it again (without closing the Firefox application) seemed to rectify the problem in the short term, it's becoming quite annoying.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== the Firefox is being used

I think I have a solution.
First, download the add-on SQManager. This should be included with FireFox, it is really good.
Look for the file '''moz_hosts''' in the folder '''places.sqlite'''.
Don't delete the file, just delete the information in the file. My file has over 3600 websites, which go back years!! I did not know they were there, but I was frustrated about not being able to get rid of them. They popped up every time I used the address bar. Clearing my history would not get rid of them.
This is where they are stored!! I found that by deleting the pesky web site from '''moz_hosts''', it does not appear in my address bar anymore!!!
I think that if I just delete all the websites in moz_hosts....
Wa-la...History Gone!!!
As long as you don't delete the file, just empty it, FireFox won't know the difference. It will just keep adding websites to it until you empty it again.
Why running "clear recent history" doesn't do this, I don't know. You are doing manually what "clear recent history" is not doing.
Please tell me if you see any flaw in this.

• I have dial-up, and when I delete my browser history, the facebook games refuse to load for MONTHS until magically one day, they decide to open again. How can I make them load right away?

I am using a gateway laptop, and Windows 7. I use Netzero as my dialup service, using my phone line. I deleted my browser history and cookies, but I left all passwords intact. Whenever I do this, the games on Facebook come up with a LOADING bar, but they hit 100 percent and never actually load. It does this for months, and one day, they magically (Without me changing any settings) decide to load when I click on them. How do I make the games load, and prevent this from happening every time I clear the history?

• Firefox is not saving my browsing history anywhere including the addressbar. All settings are correct in options.

I had to re-install Firefox and since then all my history in the address bar is not being saved. I have followed the instructions and checked all the settings to save history but still no history being saved. Is there a way to go back to original default settings?

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Google Toolbar Options, in the Search tab, make sure that '''Enable the Google new tab page''' is check-marked. If that doesn't fix it for you, see this for support information about the Google Toolbar.
