Firefox doesn't play video and audio, cann't download anything!

A very strange problem occurred a few days ago. I didn't pay attention on it at first ( I thought it was caused by my provider) but now I found that it's a real problem. Firefox doesn't play video or audio. For instance, it starts loading and that's all. The same is with playing music. In addition, I can't download any files and view a big image as quick as early.
What is more interesting sometimes Firefox just begins to work in ordinary way.

There is no single codec for movies that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. An AVI movie may use one of the Indeo codecs (there are at least four that I'm aware of, none of which have been ported to Mac OS X) or one of the various flavors of DivX, among other possibilities. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the movies you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
If you want to try "hit and miss", you can try the codecs at http://www.divx.com/ and http://www.3ivx.com/ and see if one of them will work for you. Perian, which rolls several codecs into one package, might also work.
If you just want to play the movie any way you can, you can also give this player a try:

  • Composite AV Cable will play video and audio, but not music

I just bought an Apple Composite AV Cable to use with my iPod touch 3rd gen. It will play videos and the accompanying audio through the TV with no problems, but it will not play just music. What's the deal?

No. However, you can get a cable from the headphone jack to an audio input for your TV.
The Apple universal dock also has audio out.

  • Playing video AND audio through TV speakers using Mini Display to HDMI adapter

I have a late 2011 MBP and want to hear the sound of the videos I'm running on my MBP through the speakers of my LG HDTV.  I have used a Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (model f2cd021eb) plugged in to my MBP with an HDMI cable running from it to my LG HDTV. The video shows on the tv, and sound plays thru the MBP speakers.  I have used an off-brand Mini DispalyPort to HDMI cable (without any adapter) - that is, it plugs directly into my Mini DisplayPort on my MBP and the HDMI port on my LG TV. The video shows on the tv, and sound plays thru the MBP speakers.
System Preference > Sound > Output, selected LG TV (type HDMI) and the note that displays is "Settings for the selected device: The selected device has no output controls".
I open Audio Midi Setup. It lists Built-in Mic (2 in/0 out), Built-in Input (2 in/0 out), Built-in Output (o in/2 out), HDMI (0 in/2 out). The Built-in Output is selected by default. The source is Headphones (Format 44100 Hz, 2ch-24bit integer, ch master far left, ch 1 and 2 far right with value of 1 for both dB of 0 for both).
Upon selecting HDMI, the source changes to LG TV (Format 48000 Hz, 2ch-24bit Interger, ch Master, 1, and 2 to far left and unavailable to adjust).
Upon selecting Configure Speakers, I click left front and right front and hear sound coming from the tv speakers just fine...loud and clear.
I'm deployed overseas and getting products through the mail is really really slow!!  So any insight you can offer would be great!!

I was wanting to do the same and was at the verge of following The Official Way (Apple dongle + HDMI male to male cable). But on the trip to the store, found a TechLink iWire TB male to HDMI male adapter cable for half the cost, bit the bullet and got it instead: http://www.techlink.uk.com/products/apple/iwires/iwires_mini_displayport_plug_to _hdmi_plug
First time use with a Hitachi TV was disconcerting. Used to the old VGA setup, plugged everything in (while the rest of the family was watching regular TV on the unit), fully expecting the Mac to recognize the external display and send the signal over. No go. Tried resetting the PRAM, rebooting the Mac, no joy. Was about ready to write the cable off as a bad POS, when in a flash of inspiration switched the TV's input over to its HDMI port.  Lo and behold, the Mac switched res and started sending sight and sound over at the TV's native capabilities. Did not need to fiddle with any adjustments at all. Sound was great, display crystalline clear. Wowed the folks.
And if I switched the TV to another input, the Mac would immediately disconnect and revert to its usual settings.
So yeah, the cable can be a culprit, but so can whatever's on the other end of the cable

  • ITunes after 10.8.3 combo update doesn't play video, only audio with a black screen

My iTunes has been randomly playing really old QuickTime files as I've had iTunes start in 32 bit mode.  That worked for a while, but like I said, it has stopped working and iTunes is back to not playing older QT movie files.  Fine.
Now, however, iTunes didn't play a PROTECTED file that I purchased from the iTunes store.  I made sure my computer was authorized to play the file, the store said my computer was already authorized.  iTunes plays the AUDIO of the selected video, but only shows a black window where the video should be playing.  It did this for several videos.  I was confused.
I restarted my computer and now iTunes is playing the file as it should.  It is not however playing my MPG QuickTime movie files that it has played for years.
What is going on with the software?  I've followed the threads telling me to remove Perian, remove, Filp4Mac, restart, run in 32-bit mode, etc and nothing is now working when those solutions worked just last week.
Any input about what I should try next would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
    Chad

  • Playing video and audio on PDA (ie: PALM)

just wanted to know if I can play audio, video & podcasts on my PALM PDA?

      Windows XP Pro

    If talking about purchased items:
regarding TV shows - you can't as their DRM prohibits conversion to any other format.
regarding audio tracks - you have to burn them to an AudioCD and have to re-iport the resulting CD to a file format that your PDA is able to handle.

  • Video and Audio Issues

I am having troubles with playing videos and audio on my macbook pro. When attempting to play videos, the video generally stops playing after 2-3 seconds. The audio starts out choppy and eventually doesn't work at all. This issue persists on all browsers (safari, chrome, firefox), with both flash and HTML5 players. HTML5 players generally seem like they are fast forwarding for 5 seconds then stop. I have tried re-installing flash player and clearing the cache, but that does not fix the issue. I have also logged into a guest account and the issue still persists. Any advice on how to fix this would be welcomed, thank you.

I have also tried getting rid of add-ons as well, which doesn't work either. Any ideas?

  • Making QtWebkit support HTML5 video and audio

For those who don't know, HTML5 enables most current browsers to play videos and audios without the need of any plugin. QtWebkit supports this feature, so browsers using it such as Rekonq and Arora should support it too. However on Arch Linux this does not work outside of the box.
I've tried to make this work and made a little progress, and I'm wondering if anyone has made similar attempts, have suggestions, or are willing to try this out. What I've done basically is to compile Qt with Phonon, and then remove the Phonon files when building the package, so that it uses the Phonon that comes with KDE. I included the PKGBUILD below, and you just need to copy the extra/qt directory from abs, and override the PKGBUILD or apply the patch.
I also installed phonon-vlc-qt from AUR, which according to this post contains some fixes to support HTML5 video/audio. However neither this nor the default gstreamer backend works for me. With vlc the vidoe doesn't play, and with gstreamer the browser crashes. To try different backends for Phonon, open KDE's System Settings - Multimedia - Backends, and use the Prefer and Defer buttons.
Some links for testing HTML5 video and audio:
http://html5test.com Only uses JavaScript to ask the browser if it supports the feature. What I've done does make these tests pass.
    http://html5video.org
http://youtube.com/html5 Join the beta, and then open some youtube videos, and look for HTML5 in the player's control bar

Use a minidisplay/HDMI cable for video:
    http://www.cnaweb.com/6-mini-displayport-male-to-hdmi-male-cable.aspx?gclid=CMbn pNem57wCFRQS7AodzDQACg
A 2009 MBP does not support audio via HDMI so you will have to tap the Audio Output port.  Use a 3.5 mmRCA plugs and tap the RCA audio inputs on the TV with a cable such as this:

  • Video and audio players will not show in Firefox. Players show in Safari and Chrome. (Mac computers). Do I need a plug-in?

Tested on 3 apple mac computers:
Mac Pro, Mini Mac and Macbook Pro.
Each computer running Mountain Lion and Firefox 11.8.800.94
Video and audio players not showing on website (video player is JWPlayer)
Error on video player placeholder says 'No video with supported format and MIME type found'
When the same site is access via either Chrome or Safari then the video and audio players show with all of the controls.

You get this error if the video tag is used and not an object or embed tag that specifies a Flash player.<br />
So this doesn't look like a problem with the Flash player as it is most likely not used in this case.<br />
If there is fall back code to use a Flash player then it isn't working.

  • Quick Time 7.67 video and audio not playing in CourseCompass MyMathLab

When I first used MyMathLab through Course Compass, the video and audio played with the digital picture broken up. Since then it stopped running the video and audio. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quick Time more than once without any change. Now when it is trying to load,I just get white screen with Q logo and an arrow running across the bottom of its window.

I forgot to mention I use Firefox. I just updated to Firefox 3.6.9 today. The quick Time problem already existed before I update Firefox. Is there a problem with Quick Time being compatible with Firefox?

  • I am trying to play an mp4 in quicktime and the video and audio does not sync. Any tips?

I am trying to play an mp4 in quicktime and the video and audio does not sync. Any tips? This is not hack/ripped video but a legit home movie.

In this case, it looks like Quicktime wasn't very efficient in managing memory, leading to a slowdown in playback. If QT has a lag and VLC doesn't, that's more evidence.
I couldn't say why your friend's windows computer plays the media fine, while your Mac doesn't. The only thing I could suggest is to disable QT streaming video - which has been known to slow down performance.
