Firefox download is not prompting me to add FF icon

Am trying to switch from Safari to Firefox on new Mac notebook. Several parts have downloaded, but there are no prompts to finish installing, although there should be.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the DMG file and drag to Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Firefox Downloads Do Not Work.

Firefox downloads don't open. When they appear in the download box and appear to finish downloading, I cannot click them. When I right click, the "Open" option is gray. I had this problem when I was using my Downloads folder so I switched to my Desktop folder but I have the same problem. Nothing appears on my Desktop or anywhere. This sucks.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I downloaded earlier versions of Firefox.

I know this was written a long time ago but I just came across the same problem today and thought I'd let everyone know how to fix it. It is actually said in the website provided above, but it's under "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows".
Open a new tab in Firefox and type '''about:config''' in the address bar. Then scroll down to browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone and change it to false. I just doubled clicked on it and it changed it to false immediately. Then close the tab and download away!
Prior to doing this, I had gone through all of my anti-virus software and disabled the real-time scanning but the "open" and "open containing folder" were still gray and it wouldn't show on my desktop either. As soon as I did the about:config, it worked. I hope this helps! :)

  • Flash for firefox download page not working

The download link for the adobe flash player plugin for firefox does not appear to be working. I'm getting a page load error when clicking on the download link on the following URL: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
I've tried revisiting the page over several days this past week with no change. What am I missing here?

What is your operating system?  If Windows, try downloading the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player- windows.html#main-pars_header

  • Firefox download does not give a global icon on the desktop. There is an orange box with a slot labelled firefox. I cannot install firefox.

I am using an iMac with system 10.6.8 and a Safari browser. When I download the firefox program, I do not get the usual global firefox icon. I get a rectangular box with a slot at the end and the label "Firefox". If I transfer this icon to my Applications folder, this icon becomes an alias which cannot be transferred to the Dock. How can I install Firefox?

This problem has been solved. Thank you.

  • Firefox download does not start, even after multiple reloads.

On a Windows 7 laptop (HP) that's a year and a half old, Firefox refuses to download, despite multiple refreshes of the website. This CAN'T be the only time this has ever happened in the whole history of the internet. I know, I was there when mozilla was a beta test.

  • Firefox download will not complete update

when I click on any new version of firefox to download it takes forever (Ive checked days later and it's still downloading) and it never completes the download. Therefore I have refused to update to latest version for fear its never going to end.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
    *Firefox 24.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Mac
Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • Firefox will suddenly not open when I click the icon, even though I have used Firefox on this computer for several months with no issues.

I have always used Firefox with no problems but suddenly the window will not even open when I click the Firefox icon. No error windows appear either.

    Hi pkuhne-
I am not sure why your Firefox stopped working all of a sudden. I would recommend uninstalling and then re-installing Firefox.
    1) Get new download: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
    2) Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    3) Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    4) It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
    Hope that helps

  • How do I open a word document that has been downloaded onto Firefox downloads?

I edited a document on Word that was in word rtf. The document had been in my dropbox folder. When I saved the document it was downloaded to my Firefox downloads (but not to dropbox.) . I want move the file to my dropbox.

Mail the Word document, and when you click the attachment in IOS 8 Mail, the Word document will open in Pages v2.4.2 (required for IOS 8). If password protected, you will receive a password challenge when you attempt to open the document.

  • Not Prompted to Enter Master Password

I recently set my master password in Firefox 3.6.10, but every time I open Firefox I'm not prompted to enter my master password.
What could be the reason I have not been asked to enter my master password when starting a new browsing session?

    See this: <br />
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Protecting+stored+passwords+using+a+master+password
Once per session, when a password is first needed - if you don't have any passwords saved you're probably not going to be asked for the Master Password.

  • Can't find print window to set my printer when I click on the printer add on icon

My Epson printer is set as default printer. I am unable to find the print window to add my printer to firefox when trying to print from the add on icon.

'''{ Ctrl + P }''' then select that printer from the Print - Name dialog drop-down. Then print the page.
"last used" is the default for Firefox - doesn't go by the system default. setting in the operating system

  • I downloaded an add-on to have firefox reset itself everytime I close/reopen. Now I want to remove it. It's not listed as an add-on. How can I get rid of it?

I downloaded an add-on to have firefox reset itself every time I close and reopen it. Now I want to remove it, but it's not showing as an add-on. How can I get rid of it?

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • When I start to download the new Firefox 5.0, I get a message that says it is not compatable with my add-on 'McAfee Site Advisor'. What are my options? I prefer to have the site advisor.

I do not know much about add-ons so I don't know how to get around this without losing McAfee Site Advisor.

See McAfee for an updated version of that Site Advisor add-on. Hopefully they have it completed, as they have been promising it for the 3rd week of July ever since Firefox 5.0 was released on June 21.

  • RealPlayer download feature not working in Firefox (but works in IE)

Realplayer download feature (cursor over a youtube video, "download this video" pops up) has recently quit working for me (I've been using it for months). I've searched knowledge bases and forums extensively and tried all the suggestions., such as rolling back from Flash Player 11.5 to 10.3 (no luck), disabling/enabling RealPlayer Download plugin in Firefox (no luck), etc. The one suggestion I'd like to try but can't is going into RealPlayer preferences and enabling/disabling the "Download and Record" function. I can't because all I have in my preferences is "Recording" and the options have nothing to do with downloading. None of the RealNetworks/RealPlayer support sites are helpful at all...
However, the download feature works just fine in Internet Explorer

Realplayer download does not work in Firefox. Someone suggested ant.com as an add-on. That works.
For youtube I use YTD downloader (a youtube product). It is more reliable for youtube videos.
