Firefox Download Stack

Hi Guys,
When I download from Firefox to my desktop, the files don't automatically go in my downloads stack. Is there a way to configure this?
Cheers
A

I might have figured something out that could be useful to people trying to solve this problem... though at the moment it doesn't seem that it's going to be useful to me...
If you have Firefox set to open any files automatically, it will autmomatically save them to the Desktop. I figured this out when I changed the way Firefox handled .mpgs from "open with..." to "save to disk" and it finally saved .mpgs into my selected download folder. You can change it by going to the Preferences>Content then down to File Types and hit the Manage button.
Now if I could just get it to save to a folder AND open upon download...

  • My download stack is gone

I must have done something to it.
I may have inadvertently deleted it or it changed somehow.
New to Macs and playing with all the new features.
My downloads are now appearing on my desktop.
I would like to know how to restore the download stack.
I have not been able to find any info on this.
Also I have installed Firefox and was asked where to put my downloads.
I believe I indicated my desktop. Not sure if that's why they are all going on my desktop.
If you need more information ask and I will reply as best I can.

click on the home button in sidebar and select the Downloads folder. that's the actual folder where downloads should go. the stack on the dock is just a shortcut to it. drag the folder to the dock to get your downloads stack back. set firefox to download to the downloads folder instead of the desktop.

  • Zzxc: I am having problems with Firefox and a Google gadget score board on my Google home page. Every time I go to my Google homepage, a file called "scores.htm" downloads into my Firefox download. I can have at least 50 of those files downloaded over t

You have chosen to open “scores.htm”
What should Firefox do with this file?
-Open with: Firefox (default), or other
    -Save file?
Do this automatically for the files like this one.
I chose cancel and when I rebooted the Google page the same window came up.
I don’t want to open with or it will open with something every time I come back to Google.
The best option until this is resolved is to “Save File” and that continues to down load into the “Download Firefox” folder.

When I go to my Google page with the sport scores gadget on, Firefox download, in the downloads window a file "scores.htm" everytime. Consequently I have 10's if not 100's over time of scores(1), (2)(3).htm respectively. How do I stop it?

I accidentally deleted the download stack, but managed to get it back. How can I change back to stack view?

Right-click on the folder icon on the dock where you put it. Change it from 'Display As: Folder' to 'Display As: Stack'.
After that you'll be all set.

  • I lost my Download Stacks option. Now it is just a Download folder. Need to find out how to get the Download Stacks option back. Previous answers to this question don't make any sense to me. Please help in explicit detail. PS I'm using Mountain Lion.

Need to know how to get it back to its original Download Stack. Previous answers to this questionin Apple Support just don't make any sense to me. I'd appreciate explicit directions on how to restore this feature. Currently it's just a Download folder... must have accidently poofed it away.
    Help!

And if what WZZZ suggests doesn't work (and hopefully it will) move the file name below to the desktop, log out or restart and the Dock preferences with its defaults should be recreated. You'll need to re-configure it as you like it:
    com.apple.dock.plist
It's located: in Finder hold the Alt/Option key and from the Go menu select Library>Preferences.
If it fixes things, delete the file on your desktop.

  • In the Firefox Downloads dialog box, does the option "Remove from List" mean that the selected download will be deleted? (I want to delete it.)

I am using Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3, on a Dell_GX620. I went to the Addictedtoradio.com website that I had used on my Samsung phone yesterday for the first time. I was able to play 1980's music on the phone without any special adaptations to the phone. I tried to do the same on my home computer. I went to the website but when I tried to access the music, it directed me to download a file, Xvidinstall.exe, and I did that. It is described as 382 kb - totalvidplayer.com. I am using AVG Anti-virus free edition that is supposed to protect my computer when web browsing. However, once I had downloaded the file, I got the standard Windows message that it is an executable file that might contain viruses that could harm my computer. At this point I began to wish that I had not downloaded it, I don't want to take the risk. I'll get my music another way. I have not opened the download but I assume it is now on my computer and I want to get rid of it, without opening it. When I right-click on this file (in the Firefox downloads list), one of the options is "Remove from list". There is no "Delete" option. If I remove it from the list, will it be deleted? Or will it still be present on my computer but just not shown in the list? I would like to remove it from my computer because it might contain viruses. How can I be certain to remove it safely?

The remove from list just removed it from Firefox's download list, the file will still be on your computer. You'll have to find wherever you download the file to on your PC (right click it in Firefox's download manager and click "Open Containing folder") and delete it there to remove it from your computer.

  • Windows 8.1 ..Firefox download setup file locks up on "Installing" window

When the Firefox downloaded setup file is run (Firefox Setup Stub 31.0.exe) , 1st thing appearing is a window saying "Firefox Setup...Your about to enjoy..." It has a green moving downloading bar that continues to run forever without any result. I let it run for an hour without any change to the window. On the bottom of the window it says "One moment, Firefox will launch as soon as the install is complete" To the right of that, it has a CANCEL button. WHAT IS WRONG...HOW CAN I GET THIS TO INSTALL?

Thank you very much, Tyler...IT WORKED!!!!! I now have Firefox again.
I have to say though, right before I tried your suggestion, I did an UPDATE/RESTART. It took a long time for it to complete, so it must have loaded more Windows updates and maybe that was the problem.. but maybe not, too.
    Anyway....THANK YOU!!!!!

  • What can I do to get Downloads Stacks back?

I searched Stars & Stripes archives that downloaded every paper I searched, computer started running VERY slow, so I moved the downloads to trash & "emptied".  Somehow, the "download" file or folder itself got into the trash... now I don't have my download stacks, just a file icon with a "?" symbol... so I removed that from dock as it just isn't there anymore.  Would like to get my download stack back???  I have a stock 13" pro that I got in Sept., it says "early 2011", Lion 10.7.2  Not real happy with my abilities on this puppy, it replaces an old tiger desktop, but I don't seem to have much luck with the finger pad thingy and it seems to do a lot of stuff I'm not wanting it to do, or realizing is being done... New 'puter doesn't come with any reinstall disks like old one did, so have I lost permanently my "Downloads" file/folder/stack... or is there some way I can get that back?  Thanks

Do you have a picture of a disc drive (metal box looking item that may say Macintosh HD) on your desktop in the upper right corner?
If so, double click it and you should get a screen similar to mine as posted below.
Double click on the Users folder (the one with the silouhette on it).
You should now see something similar to this screen (the house should be back!)
Double click on the house and look for the Downloads folder (circle with the arrow and Mac on it).
Let me know if you have made it this far.
Note: To make a screenshot you should use the Apple tools. Press Shift-Command-3 and then look for a file named Screenshot (date) at (time). Use the Apple Camera button and choose the first option. It will ask you where the file is on your computer. Select it and it should upload without the ?

  • Firefox downloads file as .ASPX instead of .PDF

Trying to download Monthly Statements from Merrill Lynch website. Firefox used to download them as .PDFs (and MS IE 8 still does). Now Firefox downloads an .ASPX instead. Or maybe not -- If I change the extension of the downloaded file to .PDF. it loads correctly in Acrobat Reader. Why does Firefox use the wrong extension??

Hello, if your install disk is locked (I assume with FileVault) there is no way to change the password. If it weren't locked there were at least two solutions. As far as I know, the only solutions now are:
    - contact your dad
    - erase and reinstall the OS X clean
