Firefox downloads file as .ASPX instead of .PDF

Trying to download Monthly Statements from Merrill Lynch website. Firefox used to download them as .PDFs (and MS IE 8 still does). Now Firefox downloads an .ASPX instead. Or maybe not -- If I change the extension of the downloaded file to .PDF. it loads correctly in Acrobat Reader. Why does Firefox use the wrong extension??

  • Adobe Reader is downloading files to Numbers instead of to Quicken 2015 on my Mac

Adobe Reader is downloading files to Numbers instead of to Quicken 2015 on my Mac.

Actually, Adobe Reader cannot "download" files.
While Adobe Reader XI provides links to various Adobe hosted online subscription services it is the "service" that does any "download".
However, non of these "acrobat.com" services are related to Quicken or Numbers or other non-Adobe applications or services.
As "download" implies use of a browser perhaps the issue you have is related somehow to the browser you are using.

  • Option to download files as .MP3 instead of .WMA?

Hi, I have looked all over for a solution but have not found one so far. I need to be able to download files from the Ovi Player as MP3s instead of WMAs, as I would like to be able to put them on my MP3 player. Due to the DRM protection, I can not convert them.
    Any help would be appreciated

    WMA DRM no MP3?

  • How do I stop firefox downloading files as a blank webpage?

By mistake I recently changed a Firefox download setting that now makes all files I try to download as blank web pages. When the window comes up and asks me for what I want Firefox to do with the file it says Firefox (default) and when I open the file it opens a blank webpage. So far I've tried numerous things including resetting to the factory state and completely uninstalling and reinstalling the browser. Some help with this would be much appreciated.

You can check for problems with preferences.
Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Note that you should be cautious with opening files in Firefox via the open with dialog because Firefox shouldn't ask if it could handle this file internally.
With file (content) type does in mention in the dialog?

  • Suddently yesterday all file types are downloaded as "attachment.ashx" instead of pdf or doc or whatever.

I've been using Firefox for many months to access my work email using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Clicking on an attachment always resulted in the file being downloaded intact (mostly pdfs and Word docs). Suddenly yesterday all file types result in the download of "attachment.ashx". I had not changed anything in Firefox. I restarted Ff and then my computer without effect. I then deleted and reinstalled Ff -- no change. Now in the applications window pdfs and docs aren't listed, but I can't get them in there anyway because they don't download as such. I am using Ff 8.0 on MacOS 10.6.8.

Firefox 9.0 will revert the 8.0 changes, waiting for a definitive fix from Microsoft: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=703015

  • Form suddenly returning xml file via email instead of pdf

I've got a form online that has been working the way I wanted for at least several months which is to send a completed pdf form (job application)as an attachment via email. Now I just received an email with an xml file instead of the pdf file. When I go to the website and test the online form it sends it as a pdf. So what could have caused one specific form to come back as an xml file? Could it be the type of browser, lack of Reader? Thanks for any assistance.

I know I set up the form with the extended reader rights, I would guess that both reader and acrobat were being utilized for this form. It seems strange to me that out of the blue the form sent in this manner if the permissions haven't been modified since it was setup nearly 6 months ago. Thanks for the feedback!

  • When i download files they wont open especially PDF files

whenever i download documents it downloads then when i click to open them nothing happens

Thanks Eric, Most files i download is from a  incident management application developed from my employer.  i use that all day long. I think you are partially correct, The application that i use may be creating these subfolders and using to put files into that.
I will update this thread if i see that some other standard applications like safari / Mail are downloading into subfolders.
Is some one else facing this issue??

  • Every time I open an email in Mircrosoft Outlook, Firefox tries to download files which lead nowhere, and I end up on each and every email having to cancel the attempted firefox dowload

Each and every email I open in Outlook creates a firefox download file which I have to cancel as it leads nowhere as I have tried to follow it and see if it leads anywhere.
I have tried chat and sat on chat for 45 minutes, then get disconnected. Before removing Firefox and going back to Explorer which I hate I wanted to see if this can be solved, only started with 3.6 and I upgraded to 4.0 and problem is still there

I had the same problem. The fix is to go Oulook. Under "View" turn off "People Pane". That's all it takes problem went away.

  • Downloade files come with a .pard extension. What's up

My downloaded files look like this
    Q8zMR6vf.pdf.part
I have to back out the < .part > and, accept changing the extension to < .pdf > and it works fine

When this sort of thing happens it is usally to do with the relative locations of the files involved. Best practice here would probably be to create everything in the same directory in the first place and then uplosd that directory, or alternatively to use absolute links.

  • If I try to download a word file every time it downloads it as DisplayMessage.aspx instead of the file. How do I sort it out?

Every word or excel file I try to download from an e mail instead of getting the file name.doc or xlsx, I get the downloaded file address - DisplayMessage.aspx which is just a blank webpage. It doesn't matter which version of word or excel is used and it happens with every download. Basically I cannot download any files in Firefox but in my ISP which is AOL - there is no problem at all with downloading the files from the same e mails.

Thanks for getting back to me. Basically I get an e mail on AOL mail and until now no problem - I right click and the option I get then is 'save page as' so that brings up a list of my word or excel files - the 'save as' option box - so you normally get the word or excel file address appearing in the top box and the file extension in the bottom box just as if you were opening a file in word or excel. I've done it thousands of times but it no longer works in Firefox. However if I log directly into AOL and say download and again up comes the excel or word files and no problem - only on Firefox is there an issue and it seems to be since the last update - on both my desktop and laptop

  • Why can I not print out a pdf-file (train ticket NS) when downloaded with Firefox? (file says (SECURED)

When ordering and paying a train ticket by internet they send a pdf-file, which one must download and print. When downloading this with Firefox (from my e-mail account) the pdf-file says (SECURED) and I cannot print out the ticket (pdf-file). (Adobe program stops automatically).
When downloading this same pdf-file in Safari, I encounter no problems.

Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use the Adobe Reader application or set to "Always Ask" in "Firefox > Preferences > Applications".

  • I cannot view pdf files on Safari, instead they download and open in viewer. How do I change this?

Does anyone have a solution for this???
"I cannot view pdf files on Safari, instead they download and open in viewer. How do I change this?"

Back up all data. Please read this whole message before doing anything, so you'll know what to expect.
Open Safari's preferences dialog and make notes of everything you would need to recreate the basic settings, such as your home page. That includes the settings of Safari extensions, if any are installed.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste (command-V) into the box that opens and press return. A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open.
Launch Safari. Its settings will have reverted to what they were they first time you launched it. Your bookmarks, history, and AutoFill data will be preserved.
Test. If Safari now works as expected, recreate its settings and delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put the file you moved back where it was, overwriting the newer one created in its place. Post your results.

  • How do i download files using other downloader (like orbit downloader) instead of firefox downloader itself?

how do i download files using other downloader (like orbit downloader) instead of firefox downloader itself?
please give me detailed steps to do it
    i have orbit downloader

I tried it again, and this time when I resumed it lost about 10Mbytes, so I guess this means that the app store downloader saves its data every 10MBytes.
I will try downloading the whole thing again(XCode4) and just hope that this time I can get the whole download before it decides to wipe out what it has already downloaded.
