Hi,

  • Installed Firefox 8.0 and plugin container.exe makes pc hang with 99% cpu usage, how can I fix this?

All extensions and add ons are disables other then flash player. Flash player is needed for the webpage.

Reboot. Uninstall Firefox, then use another browser to download and install a new copy of Firefox from mozilla.org/firefox - see [[Installing Firefox on Windows]] for more help.

I'm having problems with FlashPlayerPlugin and plugin-container. They keep starting up and bogging down the system. This has been a recent occurrance. I've made sure that I have the latest version. I notice the problem when I am opening some applicatio, and it freezes. If I go to Task Manager, I can see the two Adobe apps sucking up CPU cycles. If I end the processes, then the other apps continue. Today, I uninstalled FlashPlayerPluginqand plugin-container. All day since I have had no freezing of an app. What should I do to correct the problem?

Here's an explanation of what those processes are.
Inside Flash Player Protected Mode for Firefox
I'm curious about what you did to uninstall just those.

  • Firefox opening with 2 plugin-container.exe

recently updated my flash to the latest and noticed a bit of slow down (this is an older computer) checked out my process and were as when i used to open firefox i would only get 1 firefox process and 1 Plugin-container.exe i was now getting those, and Extra Plugin-container.exe and 2 flash process so i reverted to the last flash uodate and it got rid of the flash process and it was a bit faster but i still have 2 Plugin-container.exe every time i load firefox
one just sits there using around 2,500 k all the time and i can manually close it with it not messing a single thing up flash and everything else works just fine and it no re opening itself so anyone know how i can get rid of this Extra Plugin-container.exe so every time i open firefox its not just taking up space and slowing me down

hello every plugin is running in its different container in order to enhance stability and security of the browser. this is normal behaviour and not detriment to your computer's performance.
please refer to the following blog post, that explains why there are more porcesses running with the new adobe flash plugin: http://blogs.adobe.com/asset/2012/06/inside-flash-player-protected-mode-for-firefox.html

  • Can I close Firefox and Plugin-container with a batch file? ANSWER: Yes. SOLUTION below.

Steps to create batch file to End process tree: "Firefox.EXE"
    1. create new .txt file
    2. copy/paste the following: taskkill /IM firefox.exe
    3. Save
    4. Rename the txt file - EndFirefoxTree.bat
    5. Run from desktop at any time, give it a cute icon if you'd like!.

This works well although user will need to put the .bat file in Documents and create a shortcut to desktop in order to change the icon (of the shortcut).

  • (06 Oct 14) updated firefox and Kaspersky, now have problems with Barclays site - firefox "not responding" and plugin error on trying to close. Help!

Updated Kaspersky to 15.0.0.463(a) - ( comes with "safe money" - now turned off).
Updated Firefox from (old) version to 32.0.3.
Barclays bank site loads properly, and allows access to accounts BUT when I try to look at a statement, Firefox "not responding" and a blank/ unresponsive page is displayed.
In order to acheive any movement I have to close firefox... this gives rise to windows wanting to send error data, and Firefox apologising for loosing the tab.
None of which allows me to do essential banking transactions.
It is this machine that has the problem - I can access without problems via work computer (using google Chrome)

My guess is that your statement is a PDF document, since banks and other companies often use that format for statements.
Firefox has various options for viewing PDFs, including a built-in PDF viewer (not as full featured as Adobe's), or the option to use a plugin such as Adobe Acrobat, or to launch the PDF in an external application. This article describes how to experiment with that setting: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
On another subject, your plugin list has various plugins described as "Google Chrome Extension". I haven't seen that before. Could you review the list and see whether they really should be active in Firefox or can be deactivated?
Open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins.
For those that are not essential, I suggest changing them to "Never Activate". This might not take effect immediately in that window, but should disable them in new windows.

  • I want to reinstall Firefox without addons and plugins but keeping bookmarks

I have 4.0.1 installed but somehow it interferes with Skpye and I want to reinstall both

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • Firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe both take an extremely high amount of memory and slow my PC down. I have often had to end and restart to fix this. What is up with the memory leak?

You may want to know that this is a desktop with a Vista operating system.

That's supposed to indicate it's your plug-ins like Flash that is the problem.
You might try changing hardware acceleration, a setting within Flash either turn if off or on.

  • Firefox 4.0b.11 plugin container.exe using 20.24% CPU .. Why

    Environment:
    Windows 7 64bit
    4GB Ram / 750GB HDD
Firefox up and running with 9 tabs open, and firefox is minimized as I am working on something else. Any idea's why so much CPU for container.exe if its just sitting there.

See [[Firefox consumes a lot of CPU resources]].
Try also to update your graphic driver, if it is not up-to-date, as HW acceleration can also caused your problem.

No I doubt it should. Try keying in'' about:memory'' in the location bar, and for ideas look at the blogs by a developer interested in this subject http://blog.mozilla.com/nnethercote/

  • Problems w closing 2 programs: firefox.exe & plugin-conteiner.exe

    Hi
after updating FF to 10.0.2 version recently I started to experience hanging of browser, it became unresponsive on sites like Facebook, very difficult to write letters, as browser hangs, or works very slowly.
When I close browser firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe not closing, continue to work in the background so I had to stop their work manually via Task Manager.
I updated all my plugins yesterday reinstalled Adobe Flash Player, tried to reinstall browser FF 10.0.2, but problem persists. Just now again hanged in Facebook when no other programs opened.
After that I deleted 10.0.2 version and now rolled back to 10 version of Firefox, seems to be working good. For now.
Can anyone helped me what could possible cause of hanging and why firefox.exe was not closing properly?
    Thank in advance.

I have 9 add-ons: Addthis, Diigo, EasyYoutube, EpubReader, Greasemonkey, Imtranslator, Java quickstarter, Screenshoter, UnMHT.
But now in 10 version everything is working good, it seems. Problem was just in 10.0.2 version of Firefox.

  • What are the ff preferences associated with plugin-container.exe in the newest version of ff? Specifically I would like to edit them in about:config to disable plugin-container.exe

I've done this with a previous version of ff by editing the values of these preferences: dom.ipc.plugins.enabled true
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll false
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll false
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll false
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nptest.dll true
    dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs 45
after I installed ff on my laptop today I cannot find the .dll preferences. And plugin-container.exe continues to plague me. For me this is the one issue with ff since updating from 7. It boggles me as to why you haven't gotten rid of this thing.

To disable crash protection, go to about:config and set to false all preferences starting with dom.ipc.plugins.enabled. '''(It is possible that your browser has only that preference entry without any addition.) '''This will prevent the "plugin-container" process from running and all plugins will run within the Firefox browser process. (from [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins#Disabling_crash_protection Disabling_crash_protection] )
    thank you

  • Plugin container duplicates and ID

When I close Firefox and look at the Process explorer screen at first I see only one or two plugin containers. Then suddenly I see the plugin-containers start to duplicate and continue to duplicate until over 10 display and then turn red one by one and disappear. I believe these are hidden plugin-containers. I want to be able to unhide all things on my PC and will cease to use Firefox if you continue to program in secret monitoring code. I don't need to be monitored. I don't visit questionable web sites and if someone said I do they are a lier. Please explain these occurrences of plugin container. Also you should program plugin-containers to say what they are like flash or silverlite etc. No need for the mystery and hidden anything.

"''One may argue that Microsoft should re-write the Silverlight plugin so that it works better with the new FF component, but I fear this is wishful thinking. ''"
Well, plugins are made for the browser, not the other way around... I don't know what else to say beyond that.
"''I haven't filed a bug with Mozilla for the same reason: this does not appear to be a common problem, it's more specific to our app, so the important question still stands: how do I dig deeper and try to find out what's wrong with the interaction between our particular code and Plugin-Container.exe?''"
Well, to get in touch with the developers and wanna-be developers, you need to file a bug at bugzilla. Even if you're not sure it's a bug (hundreds of fake bugs are filed everyday, and they are duly ignored or tagged as WONTFIX), filing a bug is the only effective way to tell the developing community about something. If you want to get your hands dirty, you can check Firefox's source code [https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Download_Mozilla_Source_Code here], but I think that will require a level of programming knowledge most people lack. Of course, you can't check the source code for Silverlight, because it's closed source, so, again, you may need to either ask Microsoft for help, or expect them to fix the issue, or contact Mozilla (filing a bug themselves, as sometimes happens) with technical information that is not disclosed at the moment.
At the end of the day, it's not really important, from what I understand, to make the app work on your end: it's important to make sure the app works on everyone's end. So looking for a local fix (such as downgrading or disabling plugin isolation) is a bit irrelevant. Still, there are ways to do that, if you want to know...

  • Loud static on speakers which disappear when I mute Plugin Container for Firefox on Volume Mixer

When I started my laptop this problem appeared. There is no static when I mute the speakers on Volume Mixer, which mutes Speakers, Windows Sounds and Plugin Container for Firefox.
When I only mute Plugin Container for Firefox it also silences the static.
    Could the problem be here?

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  JohnWhite,
I understand that your speakers on your HP Pavilion g7-2325dx Notebook PC continues to emit sound when you plug your headphones in and that you got an error stating "audio device isn't set as default". I will try my best to help you with this.
    Try the following steps.
    1. Click Start
    2. Go to Control Panel
    3. Select "Hardware and Sound"
    4. Select "Sound"
    5. Right click the box and choose "Show Disabled Devices"
    6. Make sure that your audio device is enabled for your notebook. It should have a green check mark.
    7. Then in your Audio system under the Enhancements tab, check the box for "disable all enhancments".
If this does not resolve your issue, then I suggest reinstalling the audio software and driver Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8).
I hope this information helps, please let me know how it goes.
Take care and have a great day!
I worked on behalf of HP.
