Firefox.exe process remains after closing Firefox
I closed Firefox 5 over 45 minutes ago. At the time it closed, I had around 60 tabs open. The Firefox window closed, but now, over 30 minutes later, firefox.exe is still consuming 624 MB of memory. For the record, currently Windows Task Manager shows firefox.exe consuming 00 CPU, 639,772 K Mem Usage and a Peak Mem Usage of 771,296 K.
I'm seen this behavior at other times and, on those occasions, the firefox.exe process did eventually terminiate and release that memory. Why does firefox.exe take so long to terminate? Is this a bug or just a result of the way I use Firefox? I do tend to have a lot of tabs, 60 to 75, open at any given time. I'm guessing that's more tabs than the typical user.
I should go on to add that I have already seen the Firefox Hangs |Hang at exit document and none of these look like the obvious issue. I'm running Java Version 1.6.0_26, so current there. I'm not running any of the listed Internet security software. The only extensions I'm running are Java Console 6.0.26, ReloadEvery 5.0.0 and Xmarks 4.0.1, so not a lot of extensions.

After an attempt to close the Mozilla Firefox page, on every occasion, the firefox.exe process is found at the top of the list when ordering the listed 'processes' by CPU time... even though the web page is gone.
If an attempt is made to restart Mozilla, the system declares that the current Mozilla process should be closed.
If the firefox.exe process is explicitly closed in the Task Manager, only then can Firefox be restarted.Does that also happen if you use File > Exit Firefox?

Webutil: excel.exe process remains

i am doing some testing with webutil. I found out that using the following code in a when-button-pressed trigger on a simple form, it works fine, but an excel.exe process still remains in taskmanager. It is only released/killed when I close my form.

I'm surprising that why I cannot get a functional result from generating Excel and Word reports as well as importing data from Excel spreadsheets with SAME codes as yours. I'm using Webutil(Ver 1.0.2) in form 9i (Ver 9.0.4.0.19) with JInitiator 1.3.1.13. I get WUC-20 error when open the form which contains Webutil Ole2 functions. How can I fix it? What am I miss?

I've downloaded the d2kwut60.dll, jacob.dll & JNIsharedstubs.dll under the same directory. I also find that Jinitiator will download these DLLs when form service startup to c:\program files\oracle\jinitiator 1.3.1.13\bin, but not to \webutil. These 2 sets of DLLs are different, is it really normal and workable of calling Webutil Ole2 functions?
I understand that WUC-20 related to the defination problem of install.syslib.location. I've tried the following settings but none go without this error. What are the settings which make the virtual directory be found and read?
Settings I try:
- install.syslib.location=/webutil
- install.syslib.location=http://<server>:<port>/forms90/webutil
- install.syslib.location=http://<server>:<port>/forms90/f90servlet/webutil
- install.syslib.location=//../webutil
Besides, I check the DLLs (d2kwut60.dll, jacob.dll & JNIsharedstubs.dll under JInitiator\bin) in text editor and find that there is no 404 error. And both d2kwut60.dll & JNIsharedstubs.dll are non-readable. Does this result satisify?
What make ur code open Excel successfully while I fail to do so? How to make these downloaded DLLs workable? What are the steps I need to do in order to get no error when the form calls Webutil Ole2 functions?
Moreover I would like to know more of the configurations and settings since I still get errors even I've done all Webutil normal and additional setup steps.
I've tried to import data from Excel spreadsheet with Ole2 in 9i in client side. All my codings can be worked and also faced the problem of Excel.exe process remaining. ALso I cannot launch the excel spreadsheet by double-clicking the document in Windown NT Explorer after running this import function. Is there any solution to fix these cases?

Firefox exe dont stop after closing the browser
firstly i open firefox then when i want to close it i press the x button. it closes. but the firefox.exe process doesnt close. so my computer locks. the cpu usage raise 100%. i cant do anything. my solution is closing the process from the task manager. but i am bored doing that everytime. i formatted my pc several times. checked it by kaspersky uptodate. i dont estimate that i have a virus. because firefox did this problem immediately after the pc format. i formatted the pc. then before drivers i installed firefox but it was the same problem again. i like the browser but this grate my nerves. send the massege to my e mail addres [email protected]

Premiere Pro CS 6.exe stays active after closing the program
I am experiencing a problem with Premiere Pro CS 6.03. When I close the program, the second monitor would not return to desktop (it stays a black screen). The premiere pro cs.exe is active in taskmanager. Only after I end the exe process would the second monitor return to desktop. I am not using any third party hardware, only Adobe player for second monitor out. This problem occurs often, but not every time I use Premiere. I have never experienced this problem in Premiere Pro CS 5.03, which is still installed on the same PC. The technical Spec is: Intel 3930K, 32 GB RAM, GTX 560, Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I have tried to toggle between different NVidia drivers, but with no effect.
Any help would be appreciated!I've had the process stay open after closing the program as well, but only on one of my two machines. For me, the 6.0.3 update seemed to correct the issue. Not sure why it's still happening in your case.

Image remains after closing window.
Hi!
I just purchased my first LCD display (23" Apple) and I immediately noticed an anomaly. When I have a window open, such as mail, after closing, the image of the window remains faintly on the desk top. I can even read the title of the last email etc. The image slowly fades away and disappears but it's somewhat unnerving. An image even remained from the previous user after I switched.
Is this common? Just a "thing" that LCDs do? After all the hype about xboxes burning in on plasma TVs, I'm a little paranoid.

I had a problem with my 23 ghosting a good while back, but I changed the desktop and I haven't noticed it since, I have read of others mentioning the problem, try searching this folder for "ghost".
This document has some information but from reading posts in the past I suspect the ghosting is partially a hardware issue and some monitors of the same model have it worse than others.

Need to close the process.
It does take Firefox a while to shut down; it has to update some databases. But it should take less than a minute.
In the support article, this problem is called a "hang at exit" because Firefox hangs when shutting down. Maybe something here will help: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+hangs#Hang_at_exit
Also, sometimes open Firefox windows disappear from the Task Bar. You can use Alt+Tab to switch to them if they remain open. -

Two nalagent.exe processes w/ 100% cpu on App Launcher close
Hello. We are wondering if nalagent.exe is supposed to be running twice as it does not appear to be this way on all workstations. One nalagent.exe process is running under NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM, and the other nalagent.exe process is running under the username.
Reason we are asking is because the one running under the username consumes 100% cpu immediately after closing the Application Launcher Window running on the desktop. Upon closing the Application Launcher, the AUTHORITY\SYSTEM nalagent.exe process closes, and the user nalagent.exe process remains and instantly spikes to 100% indefinitely (unless you kill the process in the task manager).
Using Sysinternals Process Monitor reveals that nalagent.exe is constantly scanning for the following nonexistent registry key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NetWare\NAL\1.0\Process Management]. These registry lookups appear to be what is causing the 100% cpu usage, but why? Creating the Process Management key does not eliminate the lookups.
This issue is possibly related to another 100% cpu bug we experienced with a "save icons" feature being stored under the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NetWare\NAL\1.0\Links] registry key. We followed the suggestion of deleting the Links key on logon in the following post and this seems to prevent nalagent.exe from automatically starting up at 100% cpu. Our current issue is only when closing the Application Launcher which starts the 100% cpu usage.

I've been working with Java on the Mac platform for quite a while now, but we've been noticing a Windows XP problem at work that is over my head:
"A javaw.exe process is launched each time I start the app. Quitting the program does not kill the javaw.exe process. After starting and quitting the app a number of times, my system's performace really starts to degrade. I have to manually kill all of the javaw.exe processes to liberate my RAM. "
Normally we open it just by double-clicking the jar file (since it has a manifest in it), but we've also resorted to using the console the open it. Nothing seems to make a difference.
I'm positive that System.exit(0) is being called after I save everything and close all my windows (I added console output to verify that).
Am I misusing System.exit()? Does anyone have any experience with this problem, or knowledge of the subject?i don't believe that System.exit() is called. just
insert a Syste,.out.println() just before
System.exit() to check if it is really called.I already did. (That's why I said before "I'm positive it's called".)
This took days to hunt down, but today we finally figured it out (and a work-around):
The problem was a shutdown hook. (See Runtime.getRuntime().addShutdownHook(). )
I use them to save preferences, write an error log, and close up QuickTIme.
Apparently on Windows if you call QTSession.close() in a shutdown hook, the thread blocks. And any shutdown hook that blocks will keep the JVM from closing -- so if you're experience a similar problem check your shutdown hooks. And pray to the great computing gods in the sky that you're not using packages that abuse their own shutdown hooks.
I suspect the problem is that QuickTimeJava added its own shutdown hook, putting a synchronization lock on the ability to edit the current state of QTSessions. I say this because I could safely call: QTSession.isInitialized(), but QTSession.close() or QTSession.terminate() caused a deadlock.
The workaround:
My code now says:
MovieUtilities.shutdown();
System.exit(0);
where the method shutdown is simply:

while(QTSession.isInitialized()) {
QTSession.close();
This keeps Windows machines from blocking, and the javaw.exe processes terminate normally. -
APSDaemon.exe process causes iTunes to fail on Windows 7
I am using iTunes with Windows 7 64bit. A couple of days ago my pc downloaded the latest iCloud update in the Apple Updater. Since then when I start iTunes it will lock up when opened requiring a task manager shutdown to exit.
I traced the problem to a process called APSDaemon.exe which seems to be an Apple process that runs on Windows. As soon as I shut this process down iTunes then unfreezes and I can use it normally.
I hope this helps anyone else suffering this latest issue with iTunes for Windows. I hope Apple fixes this problem ASAP.With all due respect, I don't see where the "correct answer" posted by wiclee is an answer to the problem at all. True, it prevents Apple Push from starting on boot, but at least on my Win 7 x64 laptop, the process starts again as soon as iTunes does. iTunes will start and run properly once, but if closed, will not start again during the same session (without rebooting) unless the APSdaemon.exe process is force-closed in Task Manager. This is after iTunes repairs and repeated removal/reinstalls (including removing stuff via the Registry). I've tried reinstalling "as Administrator", as well as with the antivirus/firewalls enabled and disabled. My laptop is brand new, and I haven't done the desperation measure of restoring it using the recovery disks I created, although I was considering it until I saw this thread. It sounds like this problem, if not "common", is not unknown, and Apple needs to provide a fix.

Terminating Add-on exe Process in TaskManager

I have developed an add-on which loads and works just fine, however when I stop the Add-on in SAP and/or shut down SAP B1, the Add-on exe process remains running in task-manager.
How do I ensure that the process terminates when I stop it or shutdown SAP ?

Maybe this is another Windows XP and JDK1.4 (beta3) issue...
I have a program which creates ONE background thread to access the web and obtain some data.
When I close my program, and the System.exit(0) is called, my program does not terminate. A java.exe process remains.
My question is... Do I have to do anything special to close down my thread? I had encountered this same problem with JDK1.4 and XP, but found a hack to fix it. I'm thinking maybe my program is just getting too complex to work properly with Windows XP and JDK1.4, because the "hack" or solution to the hanging process with jdk1.4 and XP is no longer working (The solution was to add JFileChooser fc = new JFileChooser() to the main method).

I just spent the 20mins to setup my build environment to use JDK1.3.1_01, and I downloaded the XML libs that my application was using (JDK1.4 has these built in), and I compiled with JDK1.3.1, and my program did NOT leave any background tasks running. So it worked great.
I just miss the mousewheel support in JDK1.4 :(.
So apparently, it is the return of the Windows XP and JDK1.4 (beta3) problem that exists.
So, looks like I'll be using JDK1.3.1 until they fix 1.4.

After closing Firefox to use IE8 or any other program (like InterVideo to watch a DVD), everything is very choppy and slow. I have to go into Taskbar, Processes, and close firefox.exe manually (which is using up all the memory/CPU and should have closed before). Then, and only then, does everything behave normally. The Firefox.exe process hogs 25% of my CPU resources even after I've closed it.
On a relatively consistent basis, when I close the Firefox windows I have open, the firefox.exe process doesn't end. When I go to open Firefox again later, I get the error message that I can't open Firefox because it's already running or not responding. When I look in Task Manager (on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, BTW), the firefox.exe process is holding steady at 25% CPU usage along with whatever memory usage it already had consumed, even though the Tasks tab doesn't list Firefox as being open.

== I'm not exactly sure. It sort of just started on its own.Ed, this kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
#run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe-mode] to disable all extensions, themes and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins, themes or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
#update all extensions, themes and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#disable all extensions, themes and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.

Also, try the theme you want to have installed so see if that is what's causing the problem. #you're done! You've fixed your problems with problematic add-ons. If you want to keep using those problematic add-ons, please contant their author for support.
Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
#try reinstalling Firefox. No data will be lost. You can get the latest version for free at [http://www.getfirefox.com/ getfirefox.com]. If that doesn't fix the problem, proceed;
#do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
#disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix your issues with Firefox, proceed;
#check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable them to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't work, proceed to the following point;
#update your modem/router software. There have been some reports that some modem/router software may cause Firefox and other browsers to loose performance and/or stability. If updating doesn't fix your issue, try other versions of the software, if possible. If you need support with this, contact your modem/router manufacturer. If this doesn't help, proceed;
#clean up your OS registry, using appropriate software. Make sure you've followed my instructions correctly, but if this all doesn't work, [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles create a new Firefox profile] (this can be temporary, of course) and see if the issues persist. Report here the results, so we can help you further.
