Firefox fails to open 'login page' links on certain websites

If I go to a site that requires some login script, firefox fails to load the page... or doesn't even try to load said page.
An example of this is when I go to newegg.ca and attempt to login, there is no issue getting to the homepage, but clicking on the login link at the very top of the page yields no results, it just appears the current page reloads.
It happened again trying to get through this help site, I couldn't get past 'ask a question' page, hence why I'm now doing it in Chrome.
I've uninstalled firefox completely and reinstalled, all with the same results. Firefox 4 on my PowerBook works fine however.

Are you using an NTLM proxy? There is a known problem with that which will be fixed in beta 7. This thread has more details - [/questions/751415]

  • Firefox insists on opening last page visited even though it's supposed to open on home page.

My Firefox insists on opening last page visited even though it's supposed to open on home page.
Bad job guys, this is dumb, I am disappointed.
I've followed instructions found in the following links with no luck:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/833603
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1019367
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1018231
I deleted sessionstore.js it worked once but the issue re-occured afterwards. I don't have the file user.js.

Make sure that Firefox closes properly to prevent Session Restore from reopening those tabs.
Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
You can leave the sessionstore.bak file with the time stamp appended that Firefox creates automatically in case of updating.
There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes.
If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

If using a Mac, go to the Firefox Plugins and disable the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.3. This is a recent plugin update, and as soon as it was installed I noticed that PDFs wouldn't download.

  • Dreamweaver fails to boot up. page links will not open in explorer

i have the current dreamweaver as part of my cretive cloud subscription. i have a mac, os 10.8.5. for months after i subscribed to creative cloud, dreamweaver worked fine. then, after doing a CC update about two weeks ago, dreamweaver refused to load. it still fails to load despite numerous sessions with adobe tech support since the initial failure.
something else has been happening since that CC update. immediately before the update, i added some links to my website. i repeatedly have heard from people telling me they get bad link messages when trying to use those links. yet every time i test those links using safari or firefox, they work fine. last night, i talked to someone who had an interesting experience while trying to use the "faulty" links. he received the "bad link" message when trying to go in via internet explorer. when he switched browsers to chrome, the links worked just fine. has adobe created an internet program that is toxic to explorer?

    YIKES!
You have over 259 html errors on your home page alone.
You also have a lot of weird <div align="center"> nesting going on.
With all of those errors and structural defects, it's hard to know what exactly may be causing the link issue in IE. IE is the single worst browser for display/behavior problems when it runs into html errors.
Those have to be cleaned up. Visit the validator at http://validator.w3.org to see them
Looks like there may be some issues in your .asp since it's writing the & symbol into your links and under the html 4.01 doctype, that's a no-go. I'm not an .asp coder, but I imagine there is a much better way to display those links so it doesn't throw errors.
All told, the code of that page is roughly 20 times longer than it should be with all the redundant and unnecessary <div align="center"></div> tags. Looks like they're even put into blank table cells for some reason? CSS would be a much, much more efficient way to center text there.

  • Can I set Firefox to open a page link in the same window (not a new tab) so I can just go back to the page instead of having to close the window?

When I am on some pages, clicking on a article/picture link opens a new tab instead of continuing in the same window. By staying in the same window, I can back click on my mouse and continue on with other reading/links on the original page without manually having to move the mouse and click to close the tab. For example: on news pages, if I click on a financial article, a new tab opens with that linked article on the website's financial site. If I keep going back to the original page w/o closing tabs, I end up with too many tabs open.

yeah, instead of using multiple windows, you can use multiple tabs inside one window. That way, you can browse multiple websites at once without having to flick back and forth between multiple windows.
To open tabs of the websites you want to browse, just right-hand click on whatever website you want to visit (For example a site from your bookmarks or a site from a Google search result) and select 'open link in tab'.

  • Mac won't open pages in browsers. Chrome and Firefox won't open any pages - Safari will only open a selected few.

I've had some strange browser issues, with Conduit being added to Chrome (which I've tried to remove via the browser settings). Chrome will open my Gmail account but no ther pages. Firefox won't open anything. Safari opens a few pages (this forum thankfully) but is very selective.
Google is returning results to me via Google.es rather than Google.co.uk
I can use all browsers freely on other devices on home network (although Google.es has popped up on my iPhone now). I've run anti-virus software which hasn't picked up any problems. I've tried uninstalling Chrome and Firefox, but am unable to do so.
Any help or guidance would be really, really appreciated.
I'm running the most recent version of Mavericks on  2012 iMac.

    Hi,
First of all click Safari/Reset Safari, next click Safari/Preferences/Extensions and turn off extensions. The re-test
If the problem persists, try using safari in safe mode:
Use this link to see how to do this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If Safari works ok in safe mode, then your problem points to something 3rd party related.
    Have a look at this:

  • Firefox will not display login page for Facebook or Mozilla homepage

My wife and I have used firefox for quite come time, we have the same settings on our computers, hers works fine, but my firefox will show the facebook login page and the Mozilla home page only in text. This started about 3 weeks ago, and the it completely crashed on the 24th. I have done clean reinstalls 3 times and get the same results. Anybody else have this problem and come up with a solution? Any help would be appreciated.

Both this support site and Facebook usually use a secure connection. In your Kaspersky software, can you check for settings relating to SSL filtering or HTTPS filtering, or similar setting that enables Kaspersky to scan/intercept secure connections, and make sure they are turned off? Do you shut down you Power Book overnights, if you do so then the build-inn maintenance script can do his job. Especially for those who are using Power Books or iBooks there is a small Application to run the script any time of the day.
The name of the Application is MacJanitor and it's for FREE in use you can Down load it here: MacJanitor
