Firefox for Android: search/address not working

I just put firefox on my new phone and I found that the search/address bar almost always considers one word searches to be an address, see pic: http://i.imgur.com/1dpIH2L.png (very annoying by the way)
is there any way to make it properly recognize one word entries as searches, or change it so that it only functions as a search bar?
And instead of making a 2nd post, is there any way to disable address autocomplete? I can deal with it if not but I just find it distracting.

Hi,
What version of Firefox for Android are you using?

  • Firefox for Android: Search not working.

    I just got Firefox for Android yesterday and I've been having the problem of the address bar being very inconsistent and giving me very strange results.
    The very first thing I typed into the app was the first word that came to mind as a long-time user of Firefox for Windows: "woot". The expectation was that it would open up google search for the term "woot". Instead, it lead me to some website at www.woot.com.
    Afterwards, I tried several other terms and found the following results: (quotes not included in the search)
    "word" lead to a "Domain Not Found" page from my ISP
    " word " lead to the same as above.
    "word anotherword" lead to a Google search results page.
    "amazon" lead to amazon.com
    "aw" lead to a Google search results page.
    "it" lead to a Google search results page.
    "go" lead to a "Domain Not Found" page from my ISP.
    This all left me very dismayed, as typing in ANY of the above terms into my PC's Firefox's address bar as well as my old Opera Android browser's bars, would give me a Google search results page for the terms. Even when I search for "amazon", I expect to be given the option of searching for amazon rainforests instead of being forcibly taken directly to amazon.com.
    So my main question is this: Is there any way to force Firefox for Android to use Google search *no matter what* is typed into the address bar?
    I custom-fit a lot of the about:config settings for my FF on Windows to my liking, but have not been able to find a list of setting explanations for the Android version of FF. I am hoping that my problem can be fixed with some settings; and also if anyone has a list of them with explanations, I would highly appreciate a link to it.
    Thank you.

    Thanks for your reply. I was testing those on my home Wifi (optimum ISP), as that is what I use most. I did test with my phone carrier's 4g also and did get slightly different results, but still does not fix the problem. Here are the differences:
    ======================
    "woot":
    * [Wifi] leads to www.woot.com.
    * [4G] tries to go to http://woot/; leads to a "not found" page from my mobile carrier with search.

    * [Wifi] leads to a "Domain Not Found" page from my home ISP with search.

    * [Wifi] leads to a "Domain Not Found" page from my home ISP with search.
    * [4G] ignores spaces and tries to go to http://word/; leads to a "not found" page from my mobile carrier with search.
    "word anotherword"

    So weird! Can't even find much of a pattern minus that two words seem to do okay.
    Furthermore, I just updated Firefox Android to version 24.0 which came out yesterday. Same exact results and the problem still persists.
    I am using an HTC Amaze 4G from T-Mobile. Android version 4.0.3. All stock and unrooted.
    Thank you again so much for your help!

  • Air For Android - Full Screen not working

    Opened CS5.5 > Chose "Air For Android" which gave me a stage dimension of 480x800 default. I then created my app.
    I am using a Droid Bionic and testing my app on it. It will not go to full screen, regardless of how I am holding the Droid. When publishing, I clicked "Full Screen" and Portrait, Landscape, Auto Orientation, etc. I tried all of the publishing options, yet still there is white screen on the eastern and southern side of the screen.
    I have a picture on the main screen, and it fits perfectly within the 480x800 dimmensions when playing in Flash. After publishing to an APK file and testing it on Droid, I have that white space as mentioned, as if the stage size grew larger than the picture / app. I also shrank the stage(480x800) dimensions to to (340x600) , but still the same amount of white space. When I move the picture to the right a bit, and publish, it shows the white space on the left hand side of the stage. This can only mean that when I publish, the stage size grows but everything on the stage stays the same.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    I removed:
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
    from AS3 and it works better. Now there is even white space on the north and south side of the screen. Clicking "Full Screen" in the publish settings, makes a little more white space, which is weird. It as if now the stage is expanding its height, rather than its height and width due to me using the above code. Still, would like to get rid of that extra white space.
    Edit: It looks like the stage height grew by 60. If I expand the picture by 60, placing it on the stage at 0x and -30y, it fits fine on the bionic. I don't understand why this is happening, and scared that it may be different for each device.

  • Want Firefox for Android phone but NOT thru Android marketplace

    I don't want a gmail address(required for Android store) because is is key to Google's new privacy destruction campaign. Answer soon I have less than a week to return Razr which is otherwise great.

    You can follow the bitly link at to get the apk directly https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#Download_Firefox_for_Android
    You will need to enable installation of non-market apps in the Android settings.
    There are no update notifications for Firefox mobile. You will need to get the new version manually to get the latest security, stability and feature fixes. These releases happen every 6 weeks.

  • Firefox for Android long press not displaying popup menu.

    Often when I Iong press a link, the popup menu doesn't display. Not matter how long I hold the link or how many times I try, nothing happens.
    I'm on Android 4.0.3

    Updated Firefox to the latest version (v37) and it does seem better however, it still isn't 100%. Tried duckduckgo for instance and a long press didn't work.
    Oddly, if I visit a link on the page and hit the back button once it's loaded, long pressing nearly always starts working.

  • Adobe PDF IFilter for document searches does not work

    I am new to full text indexing of documents but I know enough to get the files into the database and apply indexing and searches because I got it to work for Word (.doc) files.
    I'm trying to get Adobe's Ifilter version 11 to work in Windows 7 x64.  I'm using Sql Server 2012 Express with Advanced Services sp1. I have included the full path to the /bin folder for the PDF dll in my PATH environment variable per the instructions.
    Register ifilters (after install)
    EXEC sys.sp_fulltext_service 'load_os_resources', 1;
    Verify that the .pdf filter is installed:
    EXEC sys.sp_help_fulltext_system_components 'filter';
    This is the row I get for PDF which I delimited with ';'. The underline portion is what I have in PATH env variable.
    filter; .pdf; E8978DA6-047F-4E3D-9C78-CDBE46041603; C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PDF iFilter 11 for 64-bit platforms\bin\PDFFilter.dll; 11.0.1.36;  Adobe Systems, Inc.
    The file content column is
    content VARBINARY(MAX) NOT NULL
    I insert the file with
    INSERT INTO dbo.Documents (filename, doctype, content)
    SELECT
     N'MyFile',
     N'pdf',
     bulkcolumn
    FROM OPENROWSET(BULK 'C:\MyFile.pdf', SINGLE_BLOB) AS doc;
    I reboot the machine and rebuild the Full Text Catalog after installing the PDF iFilter.
    Then I search with one of these.  There are Word and PDF files that contain 'apple'.
     SELECT id, filename, doctype FROM dbo.Documents WHERE FREETEXT(content, N'apple');
     SELECT id, filename, doctype FROM dbo.Documents WHERE CONTAINS(content, N'apple');
    Now this all works well for .doc files but .PDF files never show up in searches.  I have tried both version 9 and version 11 to no avail.

    Hello,
    We believe we have figured this out.  It looks like it has to do with the length of the default folder location for the Adobe iFilter.
    I was able to reproduce the issue and the following resolved it for me.  See if this resolves it for you all as well.
    Here is how to get Adobe Version 11 PDF filter to work.
     1 . If you haven’t already, run the following in SQL Server:
    Sp_fulltext_service ‘Load_os_resources’, 1
    Go
    --you might also need to run:
    sp_fulltext_service ‘Verify_signature’,0  --This is used to validate trusted iFilters. 0 disables it. So use with caution.
    --go
    2. Stop SQL Server.  (Make sure FDHost.exe stops)
    3.
    Uninstall the Adobe ifilter (because it defaulted to having spaces or the folder name is too long).
    4.
    Reinstall the Adobe iFilter and when it prompts for where to install it, change it to: C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter
    5.  Once the installation finishes, go the computer’s Environment variables. Add the following to the PATH.
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter\BIN
    NOTE: it must include the BIN folder
    NOTE: If you had the OLD location that included spaces, remove it from the path environment variable.
    6. Start SQL Server
    7.  IF you had an existing Full-text index on PDFs, drop the full-text index and recreate it.
    8. You should now get results when you run sys.dm_fts_index_keywords('db','tblname')  --Note: Change db to be the actual database name and tblname to be the actual table name.
     Give this a try and see if this fixes yours.
    Sincerely,
    Rob Beene, MSFT

  • Adobe AIR for Android as3 codes not working for this one project

    I'm trying to use Accelerometer in my flash game, which works for every other project I'm working on, but for some reason on this one project if I try using it I get errors, using the same code i've used before, such as this.
    1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Accelerometer.
    1180: Call to a possibly undefined method Accelerometer.
    This is a fairly old file, not that old, so are there files I need to add to it to get it to work, or settings I need to change? This is very frustrating, I don't know what the problem possibly could be. Can anybody help me?

    The error message is indicating it cannot find the class.  Make sure you are importing it:

  • How to view pdf files without downloading them on firefox for android

    I use an Electronic Medical Record program using Firefox for android on a a Samsung Galaxy Pro 12.2 tablet. I need to view patient pdf files on the tablet. So far, the only way I have been able to accomplish this is to download the file first. It would be more efficient if I could just view the pdf file on the Galaxy tablet without having to download it. Is it possible to do this with Firefox for android? Thanks.

    Not in any reliable manner. There is PDF.js but it has not been optimized for Firefox for Android. https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/#firefox

Once I get off Internet and try getting back on at a later time(whether it be a minute or longer), I type in a Web page address and nothing loads up. How can I fix this.

  • OnePlus One: hardware accelerated mp4/h.264 not working in Firefox for Android

    Videos being played via HTML5 player in Firefox for Android do not play correctly, because the hardware acceleration is not implemented correctly. Tested with latest version (14 oktober 2014); Fennec (33.0)
    It seems related to the GPU (Adreno 330). The OnePlus One has the same GPU as the LG G2, and that phone has the exact same issue, as you can see here: https://support.mozilla.org/nl/questions/1022029
    The videos play fine in Chrome for android and the also play fine in Firefox if you disable the hardware acceleration via:
    about:config -> stagefright.disable = true
    Can anyone please fix this?

    In addition: I've also tried it with the latest beta (Fennec 34.0).. Same result.

  • Has Firefox for Android not been optimized for 4.3?

    After upgrading my Nexus 10 to 4.3 on Monday, everything works fine except for Firefox. I have both 22.0 and Beta installed, and the problems are identical in both. Keyboard lag, characters not showing up though I've typed them in the search/address bar, blank white screens although it shows the page has finished loading, the previous page still showing even though the address bar shows a new page has supposedly loaded, lousy scrolling. Chrome browser works perfectly, such as it is. I've rebooted several times, and no joy. I haven't uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but I'm not sure that would do any good. I'm going to try that next, but I'm wondering if there is a known problem with Firefox for Android not yet being optimized for 4.3.

    Your statement is perfect, I had a user yesterday with problems on his/her Nexus 10 and it was fixed with the superbeta (Nighty) version of Firefox for android, which you can download from.

    Hi. I want to set a non-Google search engine as the default in Firefox on Android. I have installed the search engine as an add-on and it is working fine, but I would like to use it as the default search, rather than having to select it each time.
    Couldn't find the answer on here or anywhere else.
    Please note this only relates to Android.

  • Site search will not work in Firefox but works with Chrome

    I run three websites. One is personal (www.rossolson.org) and two are for non-profit organizations (www.outpostministries.org and www.tccsa.tc). All have site search through Google, my own site is paid to be ad-free, the non profits are free and without adds because of their non profit status. For a while now, site search does not work with Firefox for the non profit sites but does for the paid site. Chrome and IE work fine. Is there a solution? Some setting to activate? Is this Google's doing?

    I am able to type a search word in but on clicking it, nothing changes. No results. the word just stays there.
    I also downloaded the https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/live-http-headers/ -- at first I wondered if it was not letting me install. So I allowed it in exceptions. But I'm not clear on what it does or what I do to use it.
