Firefox for Android User Agent WRONG

I am using Firefox on my Galaxy S4 which has a screen size of 1080 x 1920 and Firefox is reporting that it is a Tablet. I am running a custom DPI of 320. The issue is that T-Mobile thinks I am tethering when i am not. Please, I beg you, make an option to select the User Agent that the USER wants. This will allow me once again to use your web browser for Android. Thanks.

There is a small addon for changing your user agent.

  • How can I stop firefox for android from increasing font sizes on some pages?

    I try to get my browser to show websites exactly as they would look in my Firefox for desktop pcs. Checking "show desktop version" helps, but still, on many sites the font size is almost doubled compared to my laptop's browser. a good example would be the amazon site. Not only the font size but the whole layout seems bigger, although both my laptop any my tablet have the same screen resolution. Changing the text size setting to tiny didn't have an impact on any site at all.
    Also, is there a way to manually zoom in/out of a website like strg+ -/+ in the normal firefox does?

    This is an interesting one. I'm not a web developer so others will be able to give a more thorough answer but I think the thing is that the navigator.userAgent is not the only source of information about your device available to the site.
    Recently user agent sniffing has become less popular because browsers tend to catch each other up and, for example, you don't want to force IE10 users to view a web page designed to get around lacking features in IE6. See the following links for more info on this:
    * http://jibbering.com/faq/notes/detect-browser/
    * http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8970800/is-server-side-useragent-detection-bad
    * https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Browser_detection_using_the_user_agent
    I expect what is happening is that the site is instead using feature detection of some kind and is varying the images served based on the features it can detect rather than the useragent string of the browser you are using.
    As far as I can tell there is no setting in Firefox for Android that is default-zooming in on desktop websites. It just displays what the site provides.

  • How do I get Firefox for Android to OPEN a document instead of Download it?

    I have an android tablet and am using a web application that has links to Word documents. I need this to be very simple for the end user. By default Firefox downloads the file (which is on a share on our server). The user then has to find it and open it - too many steps.
    I cannot find Tools/Options/Application as there is on the Windows version.

    From where you try to download Firefox for Android?
    Download it from [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox here]

  • How do I disable the tab with 'Firefox for Android' advertisement ? It is freaking me out

    Every time I open the Firefox browser, a new tab opens up with the ad suggesting me to try Firefox for android mobile. This is additional tab along with my regular home tab. My browser version is Firefox funnel cake 22.0 . It is freaking me out as this happens every time I open the browser. Provide me a solution or tell me to switch to a different browser. I mean who is the dumb idiot who suggested this idea ? Really ?? you want the add to stay there and irritate users everytime they open it ?

    Try to change your new tab by going to about:config, and in that address bar type in browser.newtab.url, right click it, and then hit modify. There will be a window that pops up that will let you type in the address you want to show up in your new tabs. There also might be a warning when going to about:config, but just accept it if it's there.

  • Why won't Firefox for Android on my Kindle Fire HD play YouTube videos?

    The default browser (Silk) on the Kindle Fire HD plays YouTube videos. Both Firefox for Android and Silk obviously use the same operating system and hardware. What needs to be done to/with the Firefox for Android browser so that it will play YouTube videos. Firefox on my desktop machine plays YouTube videos.

    There is the old insecure Flash 11.1 Plugin that Adobe (and Google Play) has not supported since Android 4.0. As long as you have Android 4.3 or older then you can get the Flash plugin to work in manual install though Android 4.4 has made it so Flash will not work.
    However Mozilla has made a workaround for Flash can still work in Firefox on Android 4.4 in as early as Firefox 27.0 if I recall.
    There is this thread on getting Flash installed however the poster mentions Dolphin and not Firefox instead.
    http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=TxTR71JR4GVXQM
    Not that some sites (News sites are among some I encountered) have since lately been requiring users using Flash 11.1 on Android, PlayBook and Flash 11.2.x on Linux to upgrade to more current (not possible) to view their Flash videos.

  • Why are web developer tools not available on Firefox for Android?

    I do some freelance web design. I just replaced my laptop with a tablet last year (Samsung Galaxy 10.5 S). I want to do web development on it - I work from a terminal doing Ruby on Rails and web development all the time. It would be awesome to have the F12 developer tools handy in Firefox for Android, but sadly I've waited for a while and there is no indication they will ever appear.
    Do NOT suggest using a remote debugger - I'm not testing the layout of pages on my tablet, I want to be able to profile, view source (without an add-on) and such. I have seen this exact question marked closed by suggesting remote debugging, and I fail to see how telling me to use my tablet next to a laptop or desktop is a solution. Telling me to carry a second device means I don't need the tablet at all, when my intention is to ONLY use the tablet.
    My tablet has a huge screen resolution and a powerful processor - more powerful than some laptops? Why is Firefox for Android neutered? I would understand disabling it by default to help those with less powerful devices, but why remove something that would add a competitive edge to your product, and is already integrated in desktop Firefox and has been for years? I prefer Firefox, but if Chrome adds web developer tools for Android first, I'll switch to Chrome.
    There are people today using a tablet as their sole computing device. Please do not relegate us to a second-class Firefox experience!
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan:

  • How to visit full versions of sites (not mobile ones) on firefox for android on the tablet pc?

    for example I want to go on the full version of the twitter.com but I can't, it redirects me on the mobile version.

  • Firefox for Android: Search not working.

    I just got Firefox for Android yesterday and I've been having the problem of the address bar being very inconsistent and giving me very strange results.
    The very first thing I typed into the app was the first word that came to mind as a long-time user of Firefox for Windows: "woot". The expectation was that it would open up google search for the term "woot". Instead, it lead me to some website at www.woot.com.
    Afterwards, I tried several other terms and found the following results: (quotes not included in the search)
    "word" lead to a "Domain Not Found" page from my ISP
    " word " lead to the same as above.
    "word anotherword" lead to a Google search results page.
    "amazon" lead to amazon.com
    "aw" lead to a Google search results page.
    "it" lead to a Google search results page.
    "go" lead to a "Domain Not Found" page from my ISP.
    This all left me very dismayed, as typing in ANY of the above terms into my PC's Firefox's address bar as well as my old Opera Android browser's bars, would give me a Google search results page for the terms. Even when I search for "amazon", I expect to be given the option of searching for amazon rainforests instead of being forcibly taken directly to amazon.com.
    So my main question is this: Is there any way to force Firefox for Android to use Google search *no matter what* is typed into the address bar?
    I custom-fit a lot of the about:config settings for my FF on Windows to my liking, but have not been able to find a list of setting explanations for the Android version of FF. I am hoping that my problem can be fixed with some settings; and also if anyone has a list of them with explanations, I would highly appreciate a link to it.
    Thank you.

    Thanks for your reply. I was testing those on my home Wifi (optimum ISP), as that is what I use most. I did test with my phone carrier's 4g also and did get slightly different results, but still does not fix the problem. Here are the differences:
    ======================
    "woot":
    * [Wifi] leads to www.woot.com.
    * [4G] tries to go to http://woot/; leads to a "not found" page from my mobile carrier with search.

    So weird! Can't even find much of a pattern minus that two words seem to do okay.
    Furthermore, I just updated Firefox Android to version 24.0 which came out yesterday. Same exact results and the problem still persists.
    I am using an HTC Amaze 4G from T-Mobile. Android version 4.0.3. All stock and unrooted.
    Thank you again so much for your help!

  • Has Firefox for Android not been optimized for 4.3?

    After upgrading my Nexus 10 to 4.3 on Monday, everything works fine except for Firefox. I have both 22.0 and Beta installed, and the problems are identical in both. Keyboard lag, characters not showing up though I've typed them in the search/address bar, blank white screens although it shows the page has finished loading, the previous page still showing even though the address bar shows a new page has supposedly loaded, lousy scrolling. Chrome browser works perfectly, such as it is. I've rebooted several times, and no joy. I haven't uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but I'm not sure that would do any good. I'm going to try that next, but I'm wondering if there is a known problem with Firefox for Android not yet being optimized for 4.3.

    Your statement is perfect, I had a user yesterday with problems on his/her Nexus 10 and it was fixed with the superbeta (Nighty) version of Firefox for android, which you can download from.

  • Problems scrolling in Firefox for Android - interpreted as clicks instead

    I'm using Firefox for Android, the version that was updated in mid-January 2015. Since that update, scrolling on Facebook has become really difficult - jumpy and often interprets scrolls as clicks, so I keep accidentally following links I don't want to. On websites with a lot of links, or drop-down boxes that I need to scroll down, but where the whole content is clickable (e.g. searching for someone's name on Facebook) it renders Firefox completely unusable.
    I am posting here following another discussion on the Fairphone Forum, where another Fairphone user reported the same problem as me, and said that he found it to be an issue with Firefox rather than phone hardware. Here is that discussion:
    https://forum.fairphone.com/t/scrolling-problems-only-on-facebook/4298
    I am contemplating installing a previous version of Firefox to see if that fixes it, but given the advice here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-older-version-of-firefox
    I wanted to ask on the forum first. Is anyone else getting this bug?
    Many thanks!

    Hi there, sorry for the delay in replying, I was on holiday...
    I didn't try clearing browsing data but I did try uninstalling and reinstalling, which made no difference. I do not have any add-ons installed (last time or this).
    Thanks,

  • Firefox for Android: cannot locate server and the URL trying to reach includes a colon character

    Trying to reach a URL like this: http://myserver123:1009/home.aspx
    I've already disabled the firefox adding the "www" and ".com" to the URL which was definitely an issue originally, but it still does not resolve properly.
    The error page says:
    "Server not found. Firefox cannot find the server at myserver123"
    It seems Firefox is stopping at the colon character in the URL, thus not resolving to the page.
    Any ideas on how to fix?

    Hi LI_NY_1
    On my Nexus 6, running Lollipop and FF 37.0.1 I have no problem reaching urls like:
    http://rt-mba11:8080/index.html
    Are you sure you have your webserver for myserver123 configured correctly?
    If you could give me the URL of your webserver I can try to see if I can reproduce this problem; my guess is this is a webserver config issue and not a Firefox for Android issue but of course I could be wrong!
    Cheers!

  • Add-ons Not available for Firefox for android

    I was installing add-ons for a new phone (4.4.4 KitKat) and noticed that almost all add-ons (including featured add-ons, such as Phony, QuitNow, Adblock Plus, etc.) are "Not Available for Firefox for Android", with the Add to Firefox button greyed out.
    I don't remember I had such a problem installing add-ons on my old phone. Is it that I have to wait for the developers to update their add-ons or there is something wrong with my new phone?
    Thank you.

    I just read that we are experiencing an issue with the addons.mozilla.org site where Firefox for Android is blocked from installing extensions. I don't have a time frame for it to be resolved. Though I will try to update this thread when the problem is fixed.
