  • I don't like the latest Firefox. Can I keep the old one without problems?

At work I have v. 3.6.19 and it is asking me to upgrade to 5.0.1. I have a brand-new iMac at home and I installed the newest Firefox just a couple of months ago, so I probably have the 5.0.1. In any case, I don't like the new one's interface. Instead of having separate reload and stop buttons to the LEFT of the url window, there's a single reload/stop button (and it seems smaller than the old ones) attached to the RIGHT of the url window. Since I have a 27" screen on my new computer, it means I have to move the mouse WAY UP TO THE RIGHT to reload a screen, which is hard on my mousing hand. That may sound like nitpicking to you, but I'm finding it to be a problem. Also, the Home button seems to have disappeared. I just don't find the ease of use to be the same as with the one I still have at work. So I guess my question is twofold: 1) can I keep the old version at work and still upgrade the Flash (as it's asking me to do as well)?; and 2) can I put an older version on my iMac at home?
I used to work in software (although not as an engineer), and in my opinion, newer does not always equal better. A case in point, it used to be easier to return to a previous page using the top toolbar, but as the versions change the function seems to be harder to use.

    Hey paulwisc,
If you are just unhappy with the location of the Home button, you can move it to any toolbar location that you like. [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars?s This article] will give you all the steps you need to customize the toolbar.
Is that the only reason you want to roll back? If you have other reasons, you should consider [http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/feedback leaving feedback] for the developers so that they can continue to improve the product.
If you still want to roll back to a previous version of Firefox, just take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[Installing a previous version of Firefox]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Mapping in TopLink workbench: Sorting order for one-to-one mapping field

    Hi,
    we have a requirement; though it is one-to-many relationship, we wanted to map it as one-to-one, so that we get latest of the mappped entity based on attribute:*noOfVisits*. For this, I am trying to make descending order by noOfVisists in workbench; but no provision there.. it is available only for one-to-many relationship;
If I map as one-to-many, I can specify the sorting order; but is there any option to limit the max rows of it to *1*.
Pls suggest the solution; I am trying to avoid to write named query for this; and wanted to get from the entity itself by navigating to one-to-one relationship entity.
    Thanks,
    Dhana kumar.

    Hello,
If you want strictly JPA options, I'd either not map it and query for it (which you can then store it in the object if you want in a transient attribute), or map it as 1:M with the order by and have a getSingleVistedChild type method that returns the first element if its noOfVisits value is 1.
Mapping it using the 1:1 as you are asking can be done. All that is required is that you add selection criteria for the query used in the mapping as described here:
    http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/MappingSelectionCriteria
    Best Regards,

  • New Firefox looks no different than the old one (before Version 4).

When I upgraded to Firefox 4, I noticed that the screenshots of the new version (in the tutorials) looked nothing like my browser did. Same thing with Firefox 5. Nothing seems to have changed, and the features that appear in the screenshots of the new version are not on mine at all. It still looks pretty much the same as it has all throughout Version 3.

In Firefox 4 and 5, the Firefox button that replaces the Menu Bar (''File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help'') is on by default only in Vista and Windows 7; '''Windows XP users''' must turn on the Firefox button. In XP you can turn on the Firefox button and turn off the Menu Bar is you wish by changing whether Menu Bar is checked or un-checked.

  • I have a really old iMac and it won't let me download the new firefox but I still have the old one which works so does that mean that they removed the old iMac from the new firefox?????

My old firefox is version 2.0.0.11 which supports my system.
    The new firefox dosn't

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • Photoshop CS3 web gallery bugs(?); vanishing metadata, bad sort order

Running OS 1.5.4 on 24" Imac, I'm attempting to generate a "horizontal slideshow" from bridge-selected files in Photoshop CS3.
[Sounded like the problem in this post: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5a9fe/2 but on re-reading I've decided it's different so I'm giving it it's own thread, with more detail...]
    Here's my experience:
    1) Description and title show up for a second on the first slide, then revert to just the blank template on that and all subsequent slides (title: [blank] description: [blank]....
Hitting "refresh" produces the descriptive metadata for a tantalizing moment, then it' s back to the blank template for this and all subsequent slides. It does this both for Safari and Firefox.
You can view this behavior in a slideshow at http://oasisdesign.net/projects/earthtoilet/
If it asks for a password, use---
    user:earthling
    pass: draf1 )
    "preserve all metadata" is checked.
I've tried all combinations of checking/ unchecking "title, description, filename" for labeling...also, making slideshows with just one or two slides to reduce the chance that it's a weird character issue of the type some other folks have experienced...
    2) additionally, the web gallery is not respecting the manual sort order in Bridge, which is the source of the files. The help files say the slideshow should follow the manual sort order in Bridge.
    3) Finally, metadata entered in bridge metadata tab sometimes vanishes, sometimes metadata entered in file info wouldn't show in the metadata tab.
    Thanks for your help!!
    Art
BTW, here's the related issues I found:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5a9fe/2
...After some investigation, I found that the descriptions were disappearing only for photos that had a Return / Line Break in the description. If you go back and make sure all of your descriptions are a single line, it works fine....
=Don't have line breaks, nor "and" nor &...
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bff9de1/0
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bd62ec3/0

OK...here's the hack I used to get around what I'm now totally convinced are program bugs and shortcomings relative to advertised functionality, for anyone else who has to deal with this, followed by my (suggested fixes to Adobe)...
    1) Sort everything the way you want in bridge.
    2) Make meta descriptions w/o weird characters (a warning here would be helpful)
    3) Use "batch rename," with "copy to another folder" to give the images totally plain vanilla, DOS-style file names (001.jpg, 002.jpg...). This solves most filename issues and the works around web gallery's failure to recognize bridge sort order in one go. Note that you can irrevocably screw up the names of all your original files if you're not very careful to COPY at this step.
([a] make the bridge sort work directly, as advertised, por favor. [b] add an error message or warning about file names such as 006-(2).jpg causing malfunction. A compassionate, low-effort short-term patch for Mac users of web gallery, especially since bridge generates that particular sort name itself invisibly and automatically if you move a file with the same name into a folder)
    4) Use "white on black" instead of bug-ridden "horizontal slideshow" (horizontal slideshow should be fixed or deleted from the next version...multiple slideshow options would be awesome, as they advance automatically at the max rate the user's bandwidth allows, a very attractive feature)
    5) Restrict all images to the same height so users can click *in the same spot* to advance the 200 images with less carpal tunnel (the advance arrow should *always* be in the same spot, for every web gallery, IMHO)
Web galleries are a fantastic tool for sharing information easily...I hope to see some evolution in those great automatic updates someday...

  • How do I sort ALL my bookmarks into alphabetical order with ONE CLICK?

This functionality does not - nor has ever existed in any version of Firefox. (as far as I remember)
This question has been asked multiple times - and the answer is usually incomplete or too time consuming (especially for those of us who have over THREE THOUSAND bookmarks separated in hundreds of folders)
The only decent answer - used to be - to install an addon called SortPlaces: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/9275 - though for some reason the developer was offended by those in control of Mozilla and has pulled all of his addons from every site that is easily accessible - the newest version of firefox has broken this add on - and Firefox has a very useless sorting system. --
Sorting your bookmarks - one folder at a time - using a right click option - that only works when you 'view -toolbars-bookmarks' (or when you right click within the bookmark menu system) is a pitiful system -
Why can't you sort it when in 'bookmarks - show all bookmarks' ?? (well you CAN sort it there - but it will revert back to its un sorted form upon closing the interface)
Why can't you export it into a json - or html - then sort using a text editor - or some other program - then re import?
With the promotion of your online bookmark sync system you would think that something as simple as SORTING would have been covered...
Other topics comparable - with answers that are not valid:
    1 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/760184
cor-el suggested right clicking each folder individually - or using the sourtplaces addon (which is no longer available)
    2 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/837928?as=aaq
various people suggest using the sort places add on.
    3 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/752997?as=aaq
SortPlaces is mentioned again - along with a link that looks REALLY OFFICIAL - and that link also suggests using the SortPlaces - the link says its not available at mozilla but can be found elsewhere -- but the latest firefox has broken it - so its useless now...
    the-edmeister suggested:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sorting_bookmarks_alphabetically
Not sure what happened with the developer of Sortspaces - I never used any of his addons or had any dealings with him - but he is certainly unhappy with the folks behind Firefox.
    http://www.andyhalford.com/
and HOORAY for Bookmark Duplicate Detector 1.1.1 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmark-duplicate-detector/?src=search (helped me get rid of over 700 duplicate bookmarks - got me down to 3400 total; the auto remove all does not work with firefox14 but the rest of it works fine- I just had to manually push delete over and over again for a few hours...)
    - and the checkCompatibility 1.3 that allows me to load out of date add ons: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/checkcompatibility/
The CheckCompatibility allowed me to install the Sort Bookmarks add on - and it looks perfect - but will not properly function...
I hope my post helps others who are trying to sort their bookmarks - and I hope someone has an answer for some of my questions - preferably the title question... lol

I've been watching this (general) thread for years and waiting patiently for Mozilla to address it, w/out any success at all - obviously. And, no, the answers are NOT helpful to me!
I understand many people have no interest in bookmarks but clearly lots of people still use them. If you're going to have the feature that purports to sort bookmarks, for pete's sake, make it work. I'd think it would be an embarrassment to have a part of your program malfunction for so long. I mean, what are you folks? IE!?! Why don't you just ask someone to spend a couple days addressing the issue and get it straightened out? (Clearly i care enough about it but I don't code, so… I'm useless.)
For the record, a user shouldn't have to individually sort each folder within their Bookmarks folder. One should be able to pick an option that would apply to all folders. Sure, leave the ability to sort individually but add an "apply to all" feature to the mother folder. Then, find a way to have it automatically maintain that status, whatever is selected. Doesn't sound like that difficult a task, given all the other great things you guys and girls do all the time! That's my ¢.
By the way, I'm using a MB Pro 4,1 (early 2008), OS 10.6.8, and Firefox 19.0 beta. Thanks for listening to my bitching.
    - cheers

  • Moving Multiple Albums & Album Sort Order Questions

Hopefully this is a really easy question to answer, but I just can't figure out how to do this.
    1. Can you move multiple albums around in Aperture? I just imported my iPhoto libraries and I'd like to groups a set of the albums that I have into one project. The problem is that I can only move one album at a time.
    2. Can you specify the sort order or manual set the order that albums appear in projects or folders? It seems that Aperture automatically sorts them alphabetically.
    Thanks!

    1. Can you move multiple albums around in Aperture?
unfortuantely, as far as i am aware you can only move one at a time

seems that Aperture automatically sorts them
    alphabetically.
you are correct, automatically alphabetically only ... i haven't been abble to change this at all ... the only way to force something else is by adding a ~ or other character that is ahead of 0 ...

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?  Will the new one become less effective if it sits around too long?

How much capacity is remaining on your current battery?
    Check your power status
From the  menu: Hold OPTION and click System Information... èHardware è Power
Copy and Paste in your reply.
The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
    Long term storage (6 months):
Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.
