Firefox freezes after I add a bookmark

After I add a bookmark Firefox freezes. It starts as soon as the save bookmarks dialogue box appears so I can't choose where to save the bookmark but after the freeze ends (about 20-30 seconds) the bookmark has been saved.
I also have another problem that might be related. After I delete a bookmark it takes a while for the bookmarks sidebar to update so when I click on a bookmark I am selecting either the previous or following bookmark, depending on where the dleted bookmark was.

OK, I understand now. Just go to Firefox preferences and turn off Hardware Acceleration.
It was OK in safe mode but when I restarted Firefox was frozen so I had to force quit, restart in Safe Mode and turn Hardware Acceleration back on.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

• Whenever a new window (or even Firefox program windows like Add-ons, Bookmarks, Settings, etc) is opened, Firefox freezes for 30+ seconds before opening it.

I have reset Firefox, then reinstalled, removed all of the extensions and plugins, uninstalled and reinstalled Flashplayer, updated Java, etc. I have also created new profiles, which have the same problem.
The problem does not appear in Safe Mode, which is odd because I have disabled all of the built-in extensions and have run the program in regular mode, and the problem still occurs. Right now I am using no extensions, no plugins, and no themes, and Firefox still freezes for a short period of time whenever I try to open a new window.
This problem does not happen in IE or Chrome. I have not installed any programs recently; the problem started happening randomly.

Hi,
Safe Mode also disables the themes (Appearance) in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. and hardware acceleration - the manual setting is Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Use hardware acceleration when available. All these settings/options/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if a theme, or hardware acceleration is causing issues. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration, and some types of add-ons in normal mode may require a Firefox restart - a quick way to restart Firefox is to press Shift + F2, type restart and Enter.

• Firefox freezes after turning sync on

Hello
I have a strange problem that is driving me crazy for some time now (from firefox 5)
I am using firefox on two computers (pc and a mac(both windows and mac os)) which I guess makes 3 sync devices. I have a standard setup on all of those, no super fancy extensions. Only adblock, firegestures, scryptish and such and I've been using them for quite some time.
From firefox version 4 I decided to move from xmarks to firefox sync. Initially I had no problems but since version 5 something went wrong. All my firefox installations started to freeze for 2-3 seconds few times a minute. Clearing the profiles, reinstalations do nothing. Later on I found out that all this starts when I enable syncing. If I install all my stuff but leave sync off firefox works well. If I just turn it on freezes come back. I decided to delete my sync account and make a new one (was thinking about some corrupted preferences) and to be safe I synced only bookmarks, passwords and history. I left preferences unchecked. Obviously before doing that I cleared profiles on all my browers + did uninstall. After basically starting my firefox network from scratch everything was fine ... for a week. Now problem is back and I don't know what to do. Starting firefox in safe mode seems to help tho. Any ideas how to fix or debug this?
EDIT: Forgot to add that disabling sync doesn't help
Victor

The "solution" reported in bug 670064 comment 12 was, <br>Quote:<br>I then used the Clear Recent History feature to delete all of my history, and then i unticked the History option in Sync preferences. Since then, the problem has disappeared. I also have not been able to reproduce a lock-up on any version or machine that didn't involve history synching having been activated at some point or another ...
My guess is that something was corrupting the browsing history (which is stored in the file places.sqlite, along with bookmarks). If the problem resurfaces, I would try using the Clear Recent History feature to clear everything from browsing history and unsync History, as in the bug report comment (you could later re-sync History to see what happens). • Firefox freezes after page competes opening

When I open Firefox 5 on my new HP dv6t Quad core laptop (Windows 7, 6gm memory), it will open normally, but when the home page finishes opening, it freezes and will not do anything. I can't even X out of it. I have to start Task Manager and close it from there. If I click on another bookmark before the page finishes loading, it will go to that page, but will freeze when it finishes load. It did this several time, but then it worked for a while as I chatted on Facebook. After a while it froze again, and I have had to move to IE (which I hate) because I cannot even get to a help page on Firefox.

Using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because not all files are restored (only files in a white-list), so be cautious with using System Restore.
*You may lose data in the profile folder like .js and .ini files.
*You may need to (re)install software that was affected.
Delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling to be sure that all files get updated.
You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:
*Firefox 14.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If the problem persists then try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

• Firefox freezes when I use the bookmarks toolbar.

Since about a week ago, every so often when I click on a bookmark on my toolbar then Firefox will freeze for about a minute before returning to normal.
This happens about every fifth or sixth time I use the bookmarks toolbar and happens both when I left and right click on a link.
It's really annoying - is there anything I can do to stop this?

I am having the same issue, using Firefox 6.02 on a Mac. This is making Firefox almost unusable, please someone needs to find a fix!

Hello Anonymous.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

• Firefox freezes after short time use and I have to reboot

My internet connection freezes (hangs) and I have to reboot to access it again. It keeps doing this and system restore did not help. I have windows xp (firefox is my default browser but I have also tried IE - same results). Our wireless PC on network works fine.

same problems here, especially in Facebook. Also my mouse will not scroll without hanging.

• Firefox freeze after 5 - 10 seconds and makes a ding noise when clicked and only allows me to scroll

Firfox was working fine until I received and downloaded the newest automatic update. When I open firfox it allows me to move from page to page, click on buttons, veiw options, ect for about 5 to 10 seconds. Then it freezes, only allowing me to scroll with my mouse scroller. If I click anywhere it makes a ding sound, or an error sound. I an unable to close the window in anyway and have to use my task manager to end the task. I have restarted my computer. let it sit over night for about 10 hours, I have ran my anti virus (web root with spywere) twice. I have even uninstalled and down loaded both firefox 3.6 and 4.0 as well.

But wouldn't that sound like the drive was ejecting something or trying to read a disc? Because this is not a mechanical sound made by any kind of moving parts. I guess that was misleading in my original post, sorry about that. It sounds like some sort of error sound or something like that. It is not a happy sound.
I keep trying to think of something to compare it to, and the closest I can come at this moment is the strike sound from Family Feud, only just s very short burst.

• Firefox freezes when I open it after less than a minute of searching. It freezes regardless of the website I'm on. I've tried reinstalling it several times and have even tried a clean reinstall but it didn't work.

When I open it, Firefox freezes after less than a minute of use. After waiting a few minutes, it unfreezes but then freezes again a few seconds later. This happens regardless of the website I'm on. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and the problem didn't go away. I've even tried a clean reinstallation but it didn't work. This only happens on Firefox. IE and Safari work fine.

-Plug your MacBook into a power source.
-Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences".
-Click on the "Energy Saver" icon.
-Click on the "Options" tab.
-Uncheck the box labeled "Automatically reduce brightness of display before display sleep"
-At the top, next to "Settings for:", select "Battery" from the drop down menu.

• Firefox freezes when I go to Youtube videos

As of yesterday, I cannot visit any Youtube video pages. The home page is fine, but whenever I try to go to any page with a video, Firefox freezes completely. I have Flashblock installed, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I've tried uninstalling Flash and reinstalling to 10.3 - no difference. I'm running WIndows XP, FF 18.0.2. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I don't have this problem with any other browser, only FF.

I just removed Video DownloadHelper 4.9.15 add-on and voila, Firefox doesn't freeze anymore. If you have it you better remove it. It worked for me maybe it will work for you!
I think you know how to remove an add-on but if you don't, read below:
*In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select Add-ons, or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the Tools menu and click Add-ons.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the Extensions button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the Remove button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the Restart now link in the message.
*You can find further information about uninstalling extensions in the following articles: Disable or remove Add-ons

• How do I add a bookmark to the Bookmark toolbar permanently and delete it from the Recntly Bookmarked list?

It seems to me that in a previous version of Firefox that one could add a bookmark to the Bookmarks Toolbar and have it stay there.
I like to keep things neat and tidy. Now when I delete this bookmark from the Recently Bookmarked list (or the Unsorted Bookmarks list), Firefox insists only deleting it from the Bookmarks Toolbar as well.
How do I add a bookmark to the Bookmarks toolbar and keep it there? Am I required to keep it in the Recently Bookmarked and/or Unsorted Bookmarks list in order to have it remain on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

* "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called Smart Bookmarks folders and are not real existing folders.
* Smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores bookmarks and history in Firefox.
* Smart folder lists show a maximum of 10 entries by default.
* Bookmarks and history items that show up in a smart folder list are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.
* If you remove an entry then the list is shifted up and a new entry that wasn't shown previously is added to show 10 entries.
* If you add a new bookmark or visit a website then a new item is added at the top and the entry at the bottom disappears from that list.
