Firefox freezes during computer shut down, stopping shut down.

I have to Force Quit Firefox to complete shut down.
I have also had some mysterious momentary events when the screen goes blue. I have had these when starting up occasionally too.
Firefox 9.0.1, OS X.6.8, MacBook Pro 7.1.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? <br />

This happens even if I simply hover the mouse over bookmarks, not even opening a page.
And waiting for this to happen some times or closing and re-opening seems to make it work ok again.
I've already disabled almost all add-ons (I'm using only one for Flash and NoScript right now), reinstalled Firefox (8.0.1), restoring only the bookmarks from an older version.

'''Try the Firefox Safe Mode''' to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.''
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode"''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.''
'''''If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

  • Firefox freezes during DNS lookup

On many pages, especially almost any eBay page, firefox gets part way through loading the page and then freezes. Sometimes it eventually finishes loading, but it may be after many minutes. The title of my question is because the firefox status bar always shows a message about looking up some URL during the freeze. I've tried safe mode, and it has no effect on the problem. I've checked for current updates of all plugins, especially Flash. Nothing changes this behavior.
Some web pages load without this effect. On the same computer, neither IE nor Chrome has any problem with the same pages that freeze Firefox.

can you try to reproduce this issue on Firefox 10?

  • Firefox freezes during various operations (scrolling, filling form fields, clicking through the options menu, etc.)

Almost any activity in Firefox is subject to brief freezing. The freeze lasts anywhere from (approx.) 1/2 second to 3 seconds. I searched online and I came across an article stating the freezes may be due to Anti-Virus software. The work-around presented was to set browser.sessionstore.enabled to false. The idea is Firefox does not attempt to write to a file, and so my AV software doesn't waste time checking if the access is valid. The change had some positive effect. The freezes now occur less often.
However, the freezes still occur every few seconds, still to the point of major annoyance. So what I did was run Process Monitor while Firefox was running to see if the freezes coincided with file accesses. Indeed they do.
I would like to know if I can change a setting which will cause Firefox to not access these files (or files like these) so often:
    firefox.exe QueryOpen C:\WINDOWS\system32\msimtf.dll
    firefox.exe ReadFile C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\k33hi6th.default\Cache\_CACHE_001_
    firefox.exe LockFile C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\k33hi6th.default\content-prefs.sqlite
    firefox.exe QueryOpen C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\k33hi6th.default\Cache\5ACD1B8Ed01
    firefox.exe WriteFile C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\k33hi6th.default\cookies.sqlite-journal
There are hundreds of such accesses over just tens of seconds. These files are accessed while I'm e.g. scrolling down the page. I could understand if they were accessed while loading or drawing the page, but again this is occurring while I'm merely scrolling down the page and typing in this very text box!

  • Firefox freezes whole computer

Firefox beta 11.6 is having my computer freeze constantly and I don't know how to go to an older beta version?

    Hi,
You can download the latest release version here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Please be sure not to delete the preferences when uninstalling the beta. If you suspect the profile files may be corrupt you may at least want to[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information?s=backup&r=1&e=sph&as=s backup] some of the important files and then uninstall together with the preferences and do a fresh install.
    or
You can choose '''Custom''' when installing the release version and install it to another folder. You can create [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles?s=profile&r=0&e=sph&as=s another profile] and switch between the versions using the two different profiles. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Profiles?s=profile&r=2&e=sph&as=s Profiles]
Before uninstalling the beta version you may also want to check if it works in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode].

  • The third or fourth communication, firefox freezes many times/day, have to close down and restart firefox 5.0

I've upgraded to 5.0 firefox, and it freezes many times a day-have to close firefox and restart firefox - I've written you at least three other times about this and there's not been communication or resolution to this problem. This is really unacceptable - get back to me please.

So you have other postings, and what did you say there and what did you learn. Opening up another question doesn't help us to help you, if we have to start over each time. We want to know what you have done to try to fix the problem as well.

Because this is becoming ridiculous real quick! Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me answer this question!

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.
    <!-- VERY important to include-->
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>

  • Firefox won't start, but when I shut my computer down it says that it is running. What is the problem?

Firefox will not open, but when I shut my computer down it says that it is running and must be forced quit. Once I rebute the computer it opens but is very slow and hang up on many web pages. I have reinstalled it with little help. In contrast, Windows Internet Explorer works fine.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?<br />
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.<br />
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.<br />

Did you reinstall CS3 after CC?
For that matter, doing an in-place upgrade on the OS is always a gamble with Adobe programs. Reinstalling all the versions you need, in order, would probably solve your problem.
And you shouldn't need to save as IDML after opening the .inx in CC.
