Firefox freezes immediatley after start up.

I've had an issue with FF for a few months now. Whenever I start up my computer and start up FF, it freezes right away with no option but to close it. I'm then forced to reset FF, having to re-install flash and reset all of my browser settings, eg. download folder, default homepage, tab settings, etc. This wouldn't be an issue if I had to do this only once, unfortunately I have to do this every time I start up the computer or even log on after logging off. I've tried all of the usual suggested remedies like uninstall/reinstall FF, removing conflicting add-ons, etc., but nothing has worked. The fact is I've never had many add-ons when using FF and have never had this problem before. The fact that this issue virtually came from out of nowhere makes it all the more frustrating.

Hi Lefky, if you have the patience for an experiment, could you try this? The idea is to save a copy of your Firefox settings folder so that you can compare the pre-shutdown folder contents with the post-startup folder contents.
To do the comparison, I suggest a program like Winmerge: http://winmerge.org/
Before shutting down Firefox for the day, open your currently active Firefox settings folder (your profile folder) using:
Help > Troubleshooting Information > ''(in the first table)'' "Show Folder" button
Leave this folder open, then switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause 10 seconds while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then in the address bar above the file list, click Profiles. There you should see your active profile folder, although you might also see others.
Right-click > Copy your profile folder and paste it somewhere far away, like your Documents or Downloads folder, or an external drive.
You might want to copy the paths of the two folders and paste them into a Notepad or Word document for future pasting, as that will speed the process of running the folder comparison.
After restarting Windows,* you can use Winmerge to compare the contents of the two folders to see what might be changing when Windows starts up.
Anything interesting happening?

  • My laptop freezes right after start up.

I have a Pavillion G6 2232tx laptop which was working fine until yesterday it completely froze. I had to force turn off by holding down the power button. after that it would freeze right after start up. I thought it was a software problem so I deleted the partition reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled windows 8.1 and on the very first startup where windows asks to set the computer's name it froze again.laptop's temperature seems normal, no dust or anything blocking the vents. memory and hard drive both pass the diagnostics test in the bios If any one of you could help me figure out the issue i would be very thankfull. sorry for bad english. it is my third language.

IT turns out there was a problem with the Ralink Wireless card

This is sometimes caused by Bad Blocks on the Hard Drive.
If 10.7, hold down Command-R at startup, and choose Disk Utility.
If 10.6 or earlier, boot to the Installer/Utilities DVD, answer only the "what language" question and wait for the MenuBar to be drawn. Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities Menu.
Select your Hard drive by Make & Model and check the SMART Status (lower right of the right window). Choose "Repair Disk" . This ONLY examines and repairs the Directory area of the drive, but may improve things a bit. If errors cannot be repaired, you may need a stronger tool, or a new drive.

  • Backup Freezes shortly after start

I've a recurring problem with Time Machine, whereby the backup appears to freeze shortly after starting. No error message is reported and I can see nothing in the log.
At first it seemed to be caused by my children's log-in still being active but it's not that. It does seem to happen more when my wife has left lots of applications open, including MS Word with lots of documents.
I've checked the external disk (Lacie 500GB), even erased and reformatted it (Mac OS Extended (Journaled), same as by iMac hard disk) but to no avail. Stopping the back-up does nothing. Pulling the cable or turning the disk off whilst kills the current back-up doesn't cure the problem.
The only solution is to restart and run a back-up straight away.
    Any ideas?

Unfortunately, a lot of things can cause this.
Let's take a look at the log: there may be a clue. Download the +Time Machine Buddy+ widget from: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/timemachinebuddy.html. It shows the messages from your logs for one TM backup run at a time, in a small window. Navigate to one of these stalled backups, copy and post the messages here (be sure to get them all, as sometimes they overflow the small window).

That sort of thing might slow it down a bit, but shouldn't be much.
I've checked the external disk (Lacie 500GB), even erased and reformatted it (Mac OS Extended (Journaled), same as by iMac hard disk) but to no avail.
Also check the *Partition Map Scheme* shown by Disk Utility on the first line of the drive (the one with the make and size). It should be GUID for an Intel Mac, +Apple Partition Map+ for a PPC Mac.
Is your LaCie Firewire or USB? How is it connected?
Does it have it's own power supply, or does it get power from your Mac?
Are you running FileVault, any virtualization software, or any significant non-Apple software?
How much data is on your internal HD?
That info plus the logs should at least get us started.

  • Firefox for android freezes immetiately after start since update to Android 4.2.2

Firefox for android freezes/crashes immediately after start since the automatic update to Android 4.2.2 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus; sometimes it reports a crash without being started. Language is German; I've send several automatic crash reports; all available updates are installed. Other apps (google+, skype, TrustGo, Polaris Office 4 ...) started to crash as well after this android update. Please help or update Firefox.

hello emuller, you might have to clear the data & cache of the affected applications for them to work correctly on the new os version (this will reset firefox to the state after a fresh install).

  • My wired mighty mouse just freezes especially after start-up

My keyboard works just fine. It's just my mouse that keeps freezing especially after my iMac starts-up after shutdown during the night.
Do you have any idea what's wrong?

Mine is doing the same thing. I am completely new to this and thought Apples were more trouble free. That is why I bought one in the first place. I found something about this issue on the support page and downloaded the latest OS and a patch fot the keyboard, to no avail. I have tried all the USB ports with no change. Is there a support number I can call with problems? I haven't found one on the web site. Good luck with your problem and please post back if you get it resolved as I would really like to know what fixes it.

  • Webcam always freezes soon after starting a call, ...

Hello all!  I'm on Windows 8.1.  So, I have a big problem - about 30 seconds or less after starting a Skype video chat, my camera freezes for the person on the other end... forever.  It happens every single time.
Using Process Explorer, I've found that unsurprisingly 'Skype.exe' is using it - HOWEVER there are always 2 instances simultaneously running. Only in Process Explorer do 2 instances show - not in Task Manager or Resource Monitor. Although in the volume mixer there are 2 separate Skype volume controls and if I shut Skype down, 1 separate control stays open for a minute or so.  The webcam also stay on for a few minutes after I've shut Skype down - why is this?  If I were paranoid I'd think that someone was hacking and spying on me! ; )
I have Googled and Googled and Googled with no results, no joy. I've uninstalled it, re-installed it and I don't have a Skype web plug-in (in case that was the cause). I am using the desktop version, not the app as I loathe the apps. I uninstalled the app, in fact - in case that was what was causing the issue, and as I never used it.
This is getting very frustrating - can someone please, PLEASE help me?

    Hi,
I have started having exactly the same issue two days ago.
    Me: Windows 7 SP1 x64
    Partner: Windows 8.1 x64
    Skype for Desktop 6.22.81.105
Every time I call my partner the video freezes on the other end after a few seconds (quickest was 5 longest 2 and then becomes a white spinning circle. Sometimes it comes back for a few seconds and then dies again. Restarting the video on my end helps for another 5 to 28 seconds. On my end I can see us both. Reinstalled my webcam drivers, upgraded to latest Skype version (was 6.20 before), tried disabling the firewall, tried the same set of actions on the other end. Also tried deleting Skype folders under AppData/Roaming and AppData/Local on both ends. Checked the temperature monitors on both ends - no overheating. Tried upgrading graphics drivers on the other end. Tried changing ports in the connection settings - did not help either.
Some of the other things we have tried:
Me calling my partner from a different account - freezes
Me calling my partner on a different account - freezes
Me calling my partner from a tablet connected to same network as computer - no freezes
Me calling my other account on a tablet connected to same network as computer - no freezesI am yet to try calling someone else with these scenarios.
Previously we used to spend up to 11 hours on a call without any issues.
Enabling logging did not result in any logs being created at all - and yes, I do have hidden files displaying enabled in Windows.
I have full access to both machines and will be happy to provide any logs and whatnot - given that they exist of course. Our alternative at the moment is Google Hangouts but its much less reliable and has to work through a browser - permanently leaving Skype for it would suck.
    Thanks!

  • IMac stalls/freezes just after Start Up

    Hi
I'm getting the following message just after Start Up:
"Libray/StartUp items/Adobe Version Cue" has not been started because it does not have the proper security setting.
The mouse works ok. The Dock works ok but I can't open any applications, files or folders.
I have restarted the iMac but it keeps stalling at this message.
What is the fix for this?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
    Neil

try booting into _*safe mode*_, then rebooting normally.

  • My iMac freezes up after starting, works fine in safe mode. What to do?

    Hey,
I've got an iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 24" with Mac OS X 10.5.8 and a few days ago it froze while playing a game and watching an online video at the same time. When I turned it on the next morning all seemed fine but after half an hour it froze up again while doing the same thing. After this it froze up everytime within minutes of starting up. When it freezes it gives me a light purple, dark or grey screen. No error messages or anything.
When I start it using safe mode it works just fine.
I've tried all the usual stuff: resetting RAM, testing hardware and even running it on both my 2 GB RAMS seperately. None of this solved the problem or gave me any clue what to look for.
I've also tried reinstalling Mac OS X but after a while of showing me the apple and the loading circle it just gives me an empty grey screen.
Has anyone had similar problems, or advice what to do next?

Haven't Updated in a while, but at some point I got the thought that it was some sort of monitor problem, so I tested my comp with an extra monitor connected. As it turns out, there are no problems whatsoever when I connect one. It doesn't freeze up! The monitor doesn't even have to be turned on!
Does anyone have enough knowledge of the technology/system to conclude what the problem with my Imac is?
Little piece of extra info: The color the screen turns when it freezes seems to be the color in the exact middle of the screen. (Example: Light purple from the default mac background)

  • ITunes 10.5.3 freezes shortly after start-up (culprit= iTunes match?)

    Hi,
I'm running an early 2011 macbook pro (OS X 10.7.2, 2.3GHz quad core i7, 8GB RAM). iTunes has started freezing up and becoming non-responsive shortly after opening. It takes between 30 seconds and ~5 minutes, irrespective of what I'm doing in iTunes.
I think this may have started after purchasing an iTunes match subscription, but I'm not entirely sure the two are linked. If I stop the iTunes match process, iTunes will still freeze up.
Is anybody else experiencing this problem? I've seen a few unanswered posts similar to this.
When will 10.5.4 be released, and will it solve this issue? Is there an easy way to return to an earlier version of iTunes without having to add everything to my library all over again, and do any earlier versions have iTunes match support?
It would be really nice to be able to actually use iTunes again.
EDIT: if I'm playing music through iTunes when it freezes up, it will continue playing until the end of the track. The next track doesn't play though.
    Thanks,
    Dylan

It's possible. The technician also indicated to me that 10.5.3 was the most recent version of iTunes. Could just be that the version you upgraded to is extremely buggy still.
Yes, lots of complaints and issues with 10.7.3 which may have brought this about on my early 2009 Mac Pro  which on it I have my system that has gone through an earlier mac pro, maccbook pro and iMac over past few years with out needing to do a clean install and then go back and update from time machine.  My 13 inch macbook air does not have problems but I do a lot less with it and do not use the itunes on it to sync my iOS devices which gave me the most problems on 10.5.3.
I have done the deed (remotely) and itunes seems ok and stable, but now we will see how syncing goes with my two ipads, and iphone.  Testing over next 24 hours will tell the tail. If this works then I will sit back a bit and see what the issues are with the 10.7.3 OS upgrade before reapplying on my Mac Pro.
Thanks for info, this may be what I have been waiting for.

  • Firefox hangs shortly after starting

Recently updated to FF19 for Windows. Today FF started hanging within 10 seconds of starting. The menus worked, but that was about all. I could click the Window close control, but when the confirm close dialog would appear (if I managed to open a tab or two before FF hung) the dialog box would be blank. FF is the only app exhibiting this problem. It works fine in safe mode. I disabled all add-ons and plug-ins. Same problem. I uninstalled FF19 and then installed FF18.0.2. Same problem and symptoms. I created a new profile. Same problem and symptoms. I reset FF. Same problem and symptoms.
What other diagnostic or troubleshooting steps should I be taking.
    Machine is an HP Envy 15, i7, 12GB, Win7 Pro SP1 64bit (OEM).

I restarted Windows in safe mode but no result. I have found what is causing the freezing though, it was the Lastpass add-on which was attempting to connect to the lastpass website every time FF starts. Here is the solution of the problem:
    http://www.imagebam.com/image/3c18fc271388433
But then, when I was uploading the image FF froze again, this time FF causing the video driver to fail (I have to say, that I enabled hardware acceleration again, after fixing the lastpass freeze):

I forgot to mention - I use NVIDIA GTX560Ti, Intel Core i5 2500K, 16GB RAM and OCZ Vertex4 SSD with Windows 8 Pro x64 with all the latest drivers and firmwares installed.

  • ITunes Freezes soon after starting

I really don't like iTunes I tend to avoid like the plague because every time I try do something with it, it doesn't work the way I want it to if I didn't have an Iphone I would delete it...anyway I wanted to add a movie to my phone or try to anyway went in found the movie checked and hit sink the program get's to step three then freezes, I've tried starting iTunes in safemode and it still freezes on step three, don't even know why I'm here I should just delete iTunes and forget it but if anybody has a fix for this that doesn't involve 20 steps so I can get my movie on my iPhone it would be nice.

  • Why does Firefox freeze up after a few moments?

For about a week the internet freezes up and I get no response on any buttons or attempts to even close a web page. In frustration I reboot the computer and open with Internet Explorer and have no trouble.
This is a constant problem and I want to use Firefox because I have a dislike of Microsoft methods of forcing us to use their products.

Try to determine exactly what the content is that is causing problems, is it for instance opening .pdf type files or specific types of images ?
    * Tools -> Page Info -> Media may give you some clues as to what is common to pages that give problems.
It could also be a problem with your Javascript settings to block or enable
    * Tools -> Options -> Content
Or one or more of your extensions could be causing problems see
    * [[Basic troubleshooting]]
*Note if you use [[Safe Mode]] do not initially make any changes on the first screen you see just use the continue button.
