Firefox freezes most evenings at precisely 21:04. The freeze lasts for 40mns and the computer is noisy during this time, with the orange light constantly flickering.

To the original poster with the problem, i had the same issue just tonight 7/9 and fixed it.
The problem was my computer asked me to update my Adobe Flash Player. I did so but it didn't install saying 'action list not found'. I am on Windows 7 btw. Then when I tried to run FF 22, it would just hang and I would need to kill my computer and turn it back on. I tried my other browsers such as Chrome and IE and same thing, when it tried to load a page, whole computer froze and i had to turn off turn on the computer to get it back up.
I uninstalled FF and then used IE to download Flash Player. I got the same error with the 'action list not found' but directed me to a troubleshooting page. I did a search on 'actionlist not found' error, and it had a direct download link to flash thru IE. I did that, installed the newest version of Flash and it didnt give me the actionlist error.
Then I used Chrome, opened the browser, went to a page, then it froze on me again, but this time I let it run, and some window popped up for split second so I didnt know what it said, but then the webpage unfroze and everything was back to normal. I then redownloaded FF and it has been working without the freezing problem ever since.

Firefox freezes sometimes when I try to open a web site in a new window.

For the past few weeks I am having an intermittent problem with firefox freezing. It happens when I try to open a site in a new window. Most of the time I have to go to task manager to close it and re-start. And almost always when I re-start it freezes for a second time and then I have to open it a third time. Usually if I try to restore a session it will happen over and over again so I have to start a new session. I have windows 7 and the latest version of firefox.

Firefox freezes when I switch tabs or write in a form.

Every time I switch tab by clicking on them(and sometimes when using the short cut, ctrl+tab ctrl+2 etc) or when I start writing in the awesomebar/a form Firefox freezes. It just visual freeze so I can still go to a website, click on stuff and so on. But when I resize the window by pressing F11 or something like that it returns to normal. I've tried to disable all the plugins and add-ons and i've tried to make a clean reinstall, and when I say clean, I mean clean (deleted all the mozilla/firefox folders in /AppData etc) . Two things that's not affected by this freezes is
1. Flash objects
2. The title of the page. (the tabs title still freezes)
I'm using a ProBook 4330s and I have tons of friends using the exact same model with firefox who's not experiencing this problem. Also note that I don't have this problem with Chrome or Explorer.

Firefox freezes for up to a minute when I have two tabs open, one playing a YouTube video, the other with a flash game running, and the screen shows the contents of both tabs, one superimposed on the other. If I have other tabs open, they also appear as visual garbage on the same screen. After the freeze, everything semi-works, starting and stopping, with long frozen hangs.The frequency of this problem is increasing and greatly reduces Firefox's operating capacity. I am using Firefox 5.0 on a Windows Vista desktop made by Hewlett-Packard. I have cleared the caches and the problem persists, and I can't find any online help to explain why this is happening. I don't recall it happening with a previous version of Firefox.

This happens even if I simply hover the mouse over bookmarks, not even opening a page.
And waiting for this to happen some times or closing and re-opening seems to make it work ok again.
I've already disabled almost all add-ons (I'm using only one for Flash and NoScript right now), reinstalled Firefox (8.0.1), restoring only the bookmarks from an older version.

Firefox freezes when I access my add-ons page. I must use Task Manager to unfreeze it. Some add-ons (AdBlock) still work. Others (NetVideoHunter) don't. Firefox freezes on sites into which I enter info, like survey sites and especially facebook. On a particular survey site, I filled in the dots for how much I like or disliked their product. After I was done, my firefox screen went grey and my computer became unresponive. I had to shut it down via task manager. The biggest problem is with face book. If I write long messages then I am okay... most of the time. It's inconsistent. But the result is usually a grey screen and I must follow the procedure above. I tried the same thing on myspace and oddly I didn't have this problem. Also, on facebook, while typing a message it will not scroll down when I get to the end of the page, such as this page just did now. Therefore I can't see what I'm writing at certain points. I recently reinstalled Vista Premium Home edition and then installed the newest version of firefox. Everything was fine til yesterday. So I reinstalled firefox and change my lag time to -1, but that didn't help either. Had a problem with adobe earlier too, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. That's all I can think to tell you. Thanks for the help!

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem.
