Firefox freezes then makes a single beep when viewing webpages.

I have been getting a problem with Firefox for a while not. I don't remember exactly when it started happening. However, the problem is when I load a webpage and scroll down it will freeze. Then, I will get a single beep from the computer. It does this all the time. Is there any way to fix it? Please let me know.

hi,
Try disabling '''Use Autoscrolling''', '''Use Smooth Scrolling''' and '''Use hardware acceleration...''' in '''Tools''' (or '''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''', if they are enabled.

    No, this problem should be solved.
    The MBP shuts down when too hot, to protect itself. First see if it is a process running astray: start Activity Monitor (in Applications/Utilities) choose <all processes> and click the %CPU column: are there processes that are using more than 50% cpu power? If yes click it and quit it, and tell us which one.

  • Firefox freezes for up to a minute when I have two tabs open and running a video and a flash game. Why?

    Firefox freezes for up to a minute when I have two tabs open, one playing a YouTube video, the other with a flash game running, and the screen shows the contents of both tabs, one superimposed on the other. If I have other tabs open, they also appear as visual garbage on the same screen. After the freeze, everything semi-works, starting and stopping, with long frozen hangs.The frequency of this problem is increasing and greatly reduces Firefox's operating capacity. I am using Firefox 5.0 on a Windows Vista desktop made by Hewlett-Packard. I have cleared the caches and the problem persists, and I can't find any online help to explain why this is happening. I don't recall it happening with a previous version of Firefox.

  • Firefox freezes for a period of time when I try to fill out online info

    When I begin to fill out forms on line, the first few letters show up but then Firefox freezes for 15-60 seconds before the next letter is entered and does this with all of the letters I entered after thel initial freeze which is just what happened. I have therefore gone to typing the information in Notepad and then paste in the appropriate area which is what I am doing now. However, outside of Firefox the rest of Windows 7 is responding. I thought it might have been a problem with my keyboard but after contact with Logitech and there recommendatons which did not work, I believe it is a problem with either Windows 7 and/or Firefox. I have not used IE yet so at this point I do not know if the problem exists there.

    You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
    You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
    If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

  • Firefox freezes for at least 5 seconds when opening context menus

    Well I've been looking for a reason to switch to Chrome... I guess now i have one.
    Problem: Firefox freezes for 5 seconds when opening context menus (screen goes gray for @3s)
    Firefox 32
    Ubuntu 12.04
    I first noticed it this morning when I tried to open up a Bookmark menu. Continued testing and found that right-clicking(anywhere) caused the same behavior. There are tons of posts going back years of similar behavior (although I doubt they're all related), so I ran therough the standard troubleshooting steps (restarting firefox after each step):
    * cleared the caches
    * Lowered cache memory allocation
    * Created a new profile (did not carry-over any previous bookmarks or add-ons)
    * Restarted firefox in safe-mode.
    * Reset firefox (from safe-mode command)
    Restarting firefox with all add-ons disabled is not included here because that is assumed in 'created a new profile' (correct?).
    Furthermore, when I went to reinstall I got the error: "E: I wasn't able to locate a file for the firefox package. This might mean you need to manually fix this package."
    I don't know what happened over the weekend, but I guess I'll try a full manual reinstall, when I have more time to mess with it. FF has been a primary tool for development, but for now it's dead to me.
    P.S. On an unrelated issue. Maybe I'm old-school, but I miss the original drop-down menus up top. I don't think there's anything wrong with improving on the existing model, but why would you replace something that's worked well for DECADES.

    Thanks for your response and sorry for the delay in my rep[ly.
    Today I tested the Linux-64 version (Firefox 33) from the link you suggested. There weren't any install instructions or a README, but based on the file-system layout I guess it just needs to be extracted. I downloaded and extracted to my Downloads directory and ran the executable via command-line as my user (not root).
    Firefox popped up right away, but it was not usable for at least 30s. It asked to import from Chrome which I did (no errors). Every click on the top bar (address bar search, buttons to the right of search, bookmarks toolbar) resulted in a dimming un-dimming sequence of @7s, after which nothing (couldn't focus in the address bar, occasionally the bookmark menu would appear, but was not functional). Basically, it's un-usable.
    As I mentioned in an earlier reply, I am having similar problems with Komodo which is apparently also Mozilla based.
    Are there any logs I could tail and post that might help track this down?
    Not sure what to do at this point.

    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Embedded movies, Safari/Firefox freezes, then all hangs

    Note: This post was moved from 'It's not just Safari, It's Firefox too... Crashing Tiger'
    I have the same problem -- although it is linked directly to embedded quicktime movies. Almost every time I go to a page with an embedded movie, Safari / Firefox freezes, taking the rest of the os along with it (finder, other open apps) Unplugging the ethernet doesn't help. Checked the Safari crash log and it doesnt seem to be recording these crashes.

    Sounds like lookupd is hanging and taking the OS with it...

  • I was running firefox beta 9,selected about firefox, which then updated to 10, and when opening 10, began to update to version 11. now the desktop icon is beta 9, start menu beta 10, and version 11 is installed. how do i correct this problem?

    after updating from beta 9, to 10, to11, my desktop icon still says beta 9. The start menue has beta 10, and will not allow me to select open file location, which when accessing through programs(x86) is listed as beta 9. When checking uninstall programs, beta 11, is listed.
    how do i remove references to beta 9 and 10?

    Mr. Willener,
    Thank you for your reply.
    I did un-install and then re-install per the Adobe recommendations which are what you listed in your reply.  The problem remained until I did a MS Windows restore to a restore point a month or so ago.  The IE problems vanished.  However, now I'm using an outdated and unsupported version that is lower than most of the web pages require for their sites, at least the ones I want to view (they all say I need to upgrade my Flash Player which, when I did, put me in this fix).
    As to:

    You can safely ignore that requirement; it is simply not true.
    Why would Adobe post a system requirement of 2.33 Ghz for 11.2 if it simply were not true?

  • Firefox freezes or does not go away when closed I need to use window task manager

    In Windows 7 Firefox often freezes or will not go away even if I close it.
    So far the only way to resolve this issues if it last is to close it with Windows Task Manager.
    Which obviously means that if I was frozen I loose any other tab that is open

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs and [[Firefox hangs]] (Hang at exit)

  • Missing fonts when viewing webpages?

    ok i tried to solve a problem i had earlier bec my desktop was not accessable by deleting some fonts that I installed and now when i view certain webpages words are not showing up correctly? Should I just deleted all my fonts and then install a new set?? I have no clue what to do bec nothing seems to work and now my computer is running very slow? Thanks for any suggestions

    does anyone know if this will work???
    just to give you some guidance OS X has two directories for fonts one in the system /Libraries/Fonts and one specific to each user /Users/"user_name"/fonts. The reason you have two folders is as follows. In the system folder OS X uses these fonts to operate the system such as icons, menus task bars etc. Deleting these fonts may destabilize the OS. Maybe the more advanced users can verify this. Most if not all applications will use fonts from the user's fonts folder.
    Normally u should only install/delete files in the master directory if you know what you're doing. Actually a rule of thumb is only install things in your user_name's directories. The reason being that any problem that occurs would be local and not systemic.
    The way to re-install your default fonts is as follows:
    (1) insert OS X install disc 1
    (2) once disk is mounted, scroll down and open the following
    System => Installation => Packages
    (3) In this folder you will find a lot of useful things one of them is titled, "additionalfonts.pkg"
    (4) double click on it and it should reset your fonts folder to it's default setting
    Some of the fonts u outlined are not default to OS X. With those I recommend reinstalling the application.
    Remember.. this is not windows. Everything in Mac has a well throughout reason. I was a windows user some time ago. I recommend that you buy some training manuals on the OS

  • When clicking on links that open in a new window, the links don't open and Firefox freezes in a way. I can navigate the page I am on but cannot click to open a new tab or bookmark.

    When navigating the internet, if I come across a web page that has a link to open a picture or program in a new window, if I click on it, it does not open. Firefox immediately looses functionality in that I cannot open a new tab with the mouse wheel, right click to open a new tab, or use my bookmarks in either the drop down or toolbar to navigate away. I can usually still navigate the page that I am on, for example, (https://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/AppEntry/apply-online/appindex.jsp), when it freezes I cannot click on any of the content at the center of the page but I can still use the links from the list on the far left. For an example of the pictures, (http://www.insect-sale.com/), if you click on "New Arrivals" at the top of the page it takes you to a list of products that can only be viewed by clicking on them. Usually a picture of the item would open in a small window but it does not and Firefox freezes. This has also happen when I try a view a degree audit on a school's website where a program would usually open in a new window. The only thing I have been able to find that still functions properly when this happens is the home page button. I can click on it or use the wheel to open it in a tab just fine, but if I try and go anywhere else I cannot. The only way I can get Firefox back to normal is to use the Task Manager and end the process. Another thing I have noticed, that may or may not be related; is that my Norton Internet Security toolbar, that should show up below the bookmarks toolbar and above the tabs, only shows up about 1 out of every 10 times I open Firefox. Some days it doesn't show up at all. If it does show up and I log into Identity Safe, the autofill for the programed website works, even if the toolbar doesn't show up the next time I open Firefox.

    Go to Tools->Options->Apps
    Here you should see two columns: Content Type on the left, Actions on the right.
    Find and select excel spreadsheet or any other content type in the left column. There should be a corresponding action in the right column. What is it? You can use the drop-down list to select the option you want:
    Always Ask - Firefox will ask each time: What do you want to do with this file?
    Save file - Firefox will save this file to your computer
    Use - Firefox will give this file to the program to open it
    In case of saving, Firefox will either prompt you every time where you want the file to be saved, or save it to the default location. It depends on the preference in
    Tools->Options->General->Download
