Firefox getting slower and slower
firefox has been working great all of a sudden pages are taking longer and longer to load and unable to load search engines,in firefox or explorer. search engines work fine on second computer.
I am having the same problem as GTA_doum. Firefox gets slower and slower if left open for a day or two, and then when I restart Firefox it's fine for a day or two and then gets slower and slower. Help!

I have been using firefox for some time, Like it better than Safari generally, but I've noticed (and it has gotten worse with 3.6.x) that if you leave FF running for extended periods of time it gets slower and slower, does not seem to matter if add-ons are installed or not, and it gets REALLY bad after going in and out of flash based apps/games a couple times. It is not just a mac problem as this behaviour also happens on windows xp or newer, but windows OS needs to be rebooted daily anyways so most people won't notice.
Proceed with [[Basic Troubleshooting]] first of all.
You could also try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit. -
I start of using Firefox 7, as I surf or stumble it gets slower and slower loading pages till it just starts to freeze up. I have to shut down firefox and restart. This only happens after 3 or 4 web pages.
As suggested I went to Control Panel & chose Add/Remove Pgms. Now, near the bottom was Windows iLivid Toolbar. I then hi-lighted it & removed it. The date it was last used seemed to be when my problem started. I am not a big user of toolbars (except the main ones); so I had no issues about deleting one that I did not recognize.
Then I opened up Mozilla again & changed my Home Page, using Tools then Options. I closed out Mozilla, then brought it up again & my new Home Page was showing just fine. Wow! What a relief it worked. I hope it lasts. Thanx Firefox ! -

hello; i just erased the post i started with, because my status has changed. i searched in the firefox folder and found the uninstall folder, and this time, uninstall worked perfectly, and it gave me an option to save my personal info! YAY! i installed ff 3.6.24 without a hitch; FF is Baaaaaack!
However, I did get a window saying my computer doesn't have enough resources for the latest version of 8, but that I should install the latest compatible version of firefox; which version would that be, I wonder? It takes me to the same page with the ff 3.6.24 downloads. I already have that now.
I am going to mark this as solved; thank you cor-el for helping me with this problem and sticking with me as i whined and moaned, and tried to get the courage to "just do it!" -
Mail Getting Slower and Slower
Hello all -
I am running Mail 1.3.11 on my 733MHz G4 with OSX 10.3.9. My internet connection is Verizon's 768/128 DSL.
Mail is getting slower and slower, especially sending. (I have timed some outgoing messages at 2 Mb/sec - nowhere near the theoretical 128 Mb.)
I am not allowing my In Box to accumulate many emails. But my Sent Box is quite large and growing larger, since I've been reluctant to discard many of them.
Is Mail's slowness be due to my growing Sent Box? Is there anything else I should look at or do? (My internet browser - Firefox - does not appear to have the same problem.)

With Mail closed, you could always test whether your sent mailbox is too large by copying it in Finder.
~/Library/Mail/YourEmailaccountName/Sent Messages.mbox
and pasting it to say, the Documents folder, then in Mail you could delete all of your sent messages and see if that makes a difference.
If you wanted the sent.mbox back you would import it from where you copied it to, via Mail > File, Import Mailboxes and select it. I don't know if this is the problem though, but you could at least exclude it as a possiblity. -
FIRE FOX USED TO BE A FAST BROWSER BUT IT IS GETTING SLOWER AND SLOWER. THE BLUE-E IS ABOUT TO THE POINT OF BEING FASTER THEM THE FOX. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

Macbook Pro getting slower and slower, freezing all the time

Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the configuration that may be related to the problem.
Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: In each of two steps, you copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You wait about a minute. Then you paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is copy; paste; paste again. That's all there is to it. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode. If the system is now running in safe mode and is bootable in normal mode, reboot as usual. If it only boots in safe mode, use that.
Below are instructions to enter UNIX shell commands. They do nothing but produce human-readable output. However, you need to think carefully before running any program at the behest of a stranger on a public message board. If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "Step 1 done" to appear below what you entered. The output of the command will beautomatically copied to the Clipboard. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-Vagain. Please don't copy anything from the Terminal window. No typing is involved in this step.

This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. Why is my iPod touch getting slower and slower
Please can anyone tell me why my iTouch is getting slower and slower?
also why do we have to do so many updates?
Can I go back to the original software for my ipod touch?
sorry for so many questions but they are related- All I can say in this Apple forum is that downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
- Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.
- Restoring the iPod also helps -
My 2010 Macbook pro is running slower and slower. I went to the Genius Bar about eight months ago, and they botted up from the disk, and let it go through and find what its process to find and fix what I think were "orphan" files. I cannot remember what they did, but when they did it, the speed on my Macbook picked up considerably.
I have since upgraded to Mountain Lion, but these problems do not seem related to that. My 500 GB HDD is about 80% full.First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -
So i just got my ipod august 2012. about 1 month ago, my home button stopped working and my ipod is getting slower and slower. Would apple be able to fix it for free?
Ipods automatically have a one year warrany unless you have violated the terms. But you can pay to extend the warranty. It depends, they may fix it for free or they may charge a bit. Im not entirely sure. But id say theres a good chance that they may fix it for free. With battery replacements, ive heard that they give you an entirely new ipod with a charge of $80. So i think it depends

My iMac is getting slower and slower
My Mac (3.2GHz Intel Core i3 4GB Memory) is about 4 years old and has been getting slower and slower over the last 5 or 6 months. An earlier post recommended using 'Etracheck' which I have done and attached the information below. I think I may have a Ram issue but I would be grateful for any comments.

In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes.) You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard."
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamp of the last "Starting" message that corresponds to the beginning of an an abnormal backup. Now
CLEAR THE WORD "Starting" FROM THE TEXT FIELD
so that all messages are showing, and scroll back in the log to the time you noted. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the text field.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.

After starting up, it seems to get slower and slower until it times out
It starts up fine, but then it gets slower and slower until it either freezes or it times out.
Try to boot up in safe mode by holding the shift key down when the computer starts up:
