Firefox hangs (at anytime; nothing works/helps; keyboard useless) & constantly get no response/action; I get Firefox "not responding" message at top-left of window.

Firefox hangs at anytime. Nothing works, (mouse/keyboard). Sometimes after 1 or 2 min. it works again, other times it freezes & I must re-boot (cut power & restore power) as keyboard or mouse does not respond. This happens at anytime, not when doing any specific task. Also have an unrelated question: I have have 2 Firefox icons on my desktop & 2 on my bottom toolbar, one reads as "Mozilla Firefox" & one as "Mozilla Firefox (2)". Is it possible I have 2 versions/programs installed & if so, how do I verify & correct this?

You may somehow have installed a second copy of firefox. (I deliberately have multiple versions installed) Have you been trying the Beta or Aurora channels of Firefox ?
You may have just copies the shortcut icons. I use XP but assume Vista is similar, and that if you right click the icons they will allow you to see the properties, that will include the path to the firefox program ''firefox.exe'' . Do both shortcuts point to the same file and location ?
Another possibility is that one icon is for normal use, and another for safe mode, again something you will discover if you study the properties.

I get constant "Not Responding" messages and Thunderbird freezes. I've done everything suggested on this forum. Nothing helps.

I've done everything I can find in this forum - using Safe mode, changing McAfee settings, etc., etc., etc. I downloaded Thunderbird again and reinstalled it. Nothing helps. I can look at one email but if I try to delete it I get the "Not responding" message. If I try to go to the next message I get the "not responding" message. If I try to do anything while the screen is frozen, it goes grey and I get the "not responding" message. Short of changing my email viewer, is there anyway I can fix it.

System running slowly and keeps locking up. I get "Mozilla Firefox not responding" message until system catches up and strts operating again. Ideas?

When I boot system it takes forever to open. Once it is up and running I can move through some pages easily but if I try to open news sites or sites with a lot of information the system locks up as it is loading (sometimes for several minutes at a time) and will not let me get out until the system catches up. According to everymac.com, your Mac came with Tiger, 10.4.x and can't go any higher than Lion, 10.7.x.
It would have come with gray, machine specific disks. Since there's no reason to install 10.4.x first, and then Snow Leopard over that, just purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard for $20. What you won't get with the retail version of SL is the iLife suite (Garage Band, iDVD, etc.) that were on the original bundled disks, but you can purchase iLife on Amazon pretty cheap, and get newer versions besides.
When you get Snow Leopard, you can boot to the DVD, erase the drive and install everything clean. Hopefully, you issue is only software, and not hardware related.

Firefox is constantly crashing when I am in the Pogo Games app - it even crashed when I was on live c hat with a Pogo helper - this is SO frustrating - all I see lately is the (not responding) message - please help!!!!

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. Regularly get Mozilla Firefox (Not responding) message

After leaving computer idle but logged in to our website back pages when I return and try to click in I get the message Mozilla Firefox (Not Responding) this tends to happen more in the afternoon. Sometimes the only way to clear it is to turn the computer off.
Why does this keep happening?

Firefox getting slower, not responding message regularly. Have used wisefixer to optimise system, any advice? Or just change brower.

After doing a Google search for web sites, the reultant links will not open, a 'Firefox not responding' shows in the URL bar.

I had the same problem and my solution was to disable the PDF extension that came with Firefox 4 which belongs to another company. I found out that it wast interfering with ReaderX. I unabled it and restarted Firefox. I have had no problems since then. Go to Tools, Add-On and click on Extensions and disable the PDF extension. I hope this helps

Every time anything happens on Firefox, I get a 'Not Responding' Message for around 10 - 20 seconds.

For the last couple of days, Firefox has been acting strangley. It doesn't crash and need to be closed, it is just a lot of Micro crashes. Every time I change a tab, refresh a page, click on anything, do anything, Firefox stops working for about 10-20 seconds, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. When it happens, I get a message at the top saying (Not Responding) untill it fixes it self later.
I had been quite happy with Firefox, but if this problem can't be fixed, I will be forced to find an alternative, which I dont like the sound of. Any help would be appreaciated...

SJ1122 have you removed the migrated InDesign CS6 installation using the uninstaller located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder? Adobe applications are not designed to be copied/migrated/transferred to other computers. In the future please migrate/transfer/copy your documents and settings and reinstall your Adobe Creative Applications.

It locks up where I can do nothing except wait and wait for response. I get end program messages, it loads slow when initializing. I have run AVG, Windows Defender, defragged etc. I am not that computer savvy to figure this out. Need assistance from one of you experienced users out there. I keep getting 'Firefox not responding' messages. This puts me into 'refresh' mode in all Tabs. Help me fix this, please. It's constant, and makes Firefox almost unuseable.

I have a Windows Vista desktop and an old XP laptop, both run Firefox perfectly. However, my Toshiba Satellite T135 laptop will not run ANY version of Firefox--constant "not responding" messages. Chrome and IE9 work perfectly. Help!!

To mostly repeat my question, I am a longtime Firefox user on both an XP laptop and a Vista desktop. So here I get the most "capable" computer of all, a Toshiba Satellite T135 laptop, 64-bit Windows 7, 4G RAM...and it won't run Firefox at all! I have installed an uninstalled both Firefox 3, and just now, Firefox 4. No changes. When I open the software, it usually just locks up for a minute or so, and I finally get a "not responding" message at the top of the screen.
Obviously there is something corrupt in the guts of my laptop. But both IE9 and Chrome work very well--Chrome is blazing fast. I still prefer Firefox because it works best with some particular software I use for work...but I have to go to one of my older computers to do it!
ANY solutions out there? This seems like a very odd problem.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.
