Firefox hangs. Download hangs before it even opens

My older version hung on a "Well, this is embarrassing" page. Shutting down and reopening does not help. Same page. Same hang. I downloaded a newer version (9.1). This one hangs before it is completely open---continued disk activity.

I found a trojan in with my addons. I never saw it there before. I didn't discover it until I tried to copy my profiles over (as FF tells you to do before you reinstall). While I was copying the file over, MSE found 2 trojans inside the FF files!!! They are called tracur. I tried to kill it, but it kept coming back. Finally I reinstalled FF, version 9 as Swarnava says above (with no explanation) and FF worked again. However, I could still see the trojan in my addons, called xulcache, so I deleted the addon, and it never came back now.
I found info on this trojan at Microsoft - I think FF was very disingenuous not to mention this bad problem. Who knew FF could get trojans inside it???

This morning when I tried to open Photoshop again I got a message saying the license didn't support the software anymore and I would need to check with my IT administrator or contact Adobe. I tried calling Adobe but the recorded message said CS was not phone supported. I know it took me a long time to get back to school, but it seems sad to waste the $1,000 I spent on the software. Is there a solution to this issue or do I need to buy new software? Thank you for your help if you have any suggestions.

Please Help. InDesignCC crashes before it even opens...

As above, my InDesign program is not even opening.
I read on here to delete the preference files but I have no idea where to find them and I can not do it with the ctrl, alt shift method.
Can anyone tell me how to find these files on Windows 8?

Try recreating the preferences,
Click on windows and search for %appdata% and open Roaming.
Go to Adobe and then Adobe Indesign and rename the folder according to the version you are using. (eg: For CC2014 it is version 10, so rename it to old Version 10)
Go back to Appdata and go to Local

try to launch the application again.
***If that does not work.
Again click on windows and search for Event Viewer and open View Event Logs.
Double click on Windows logs and then click on Application.
Check if there is any error report for InDesign.
Please mention the report so that we can check what is causing the issue.
If in the report it says msvcr110.dll , you can try the steps:
1.       Download the MSVCR repair files from this link : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679
2.       Download the first two EXE files ( x86 & x64 )
3.       Run both of them one by one, choose the Repair option.
4.       Restart the computer after you complete both execution
Try to launch and check.

Iphoto crashes before it even opens

Everytime I try to open iphoto it crashes before it even can open. I get this error message:

What version of iPhoto are you using? V2 of iPhoto will not run on 10.5.
Otherwise:
Start with the troubleshooting basics:
1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

Did you try Firefox 10 ?
Something that may be involved in some of your crashes is Google Desktop. Apparently that is no longer supported by Google.You could try disabling that to see if it helps. Note however if you uninstall it that downloads of Google Desktop are no longer available from Google, so unless you have the install files you may not be able to reinstate it. In fact Firefox 10 is itself having major problems with some crashes, to the extent that its full release as an automatic upgrade has been suspended. Those crashes include some of the crash signatures that you are noticing.

I can't open firefox, and I don't know what the location bar is to get the crash ID. I was loading a page when it crashed, and have uninstalled and re-installed and checked for viruses and malware and nothing has helped.

Current common reasons for crashes are malware, and use of IDvault (I think comcast supplies IDvault, the software developer of it is WhiteSky, and a fix is due anytime now)

2.93 MBP - Problems before I even opened the box.

Well. My new MBP arrived about 20 minutes ago. The shipping box was double taped on the top. I peeled the top layer off, and the tape below was slit, so the box was opened and then resealed. Fine...
I took out the box that houses the computer, and low and behold, there are two clear pieces of tape holding the box closed. You have to look closely: They aren't lined up perfectly.
Now my issue is: Why is this brand new machine from China resealed? Was this a defective machine that was repaired? Was this formerly a 2.8 machine that had the motherboard replaced to make it a 2.93?
I'm really frustrated, and angry. Before I open it, I may call Apple and ask for a refund. There's just too many concerns going on with these new MBPs to NOT be concerned about this.
Any thoughts on this crappy situation I'm in?

There's no higher incidence of problems with this model than with any previous model. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, these forums are like the emergency room for Macs, and if you judged people by that, you'd think that most of the human population was sick or injured.
My first thought was that maybe they did some kind of modification or "fix" to the machine before sending it out.

I wish I could. I just know that once I break the (second) seal, there is no gong back, and I have committed to 3 spending grand.

Firefox 5 downloads but can't be opened. help.

FF 5 .dmg is "not recognized." I've downloaded it 3 times with the same result. Other .dmg files open in the usual way. I currently have FF 4.0.1 running in safe mode on a Mac with 10.6.7.

Okay...I'm sorry for the panic. I finally just re-booted the computer and now the Finder is working.
But, yes, to answer your question, Linc, it was -10810 (I'm typing that from memory, so it may be off by a digit or two???)
Could it be the bug that was mentioned in previous threads? Or, maybe just a fluke?
This was my first time to post a question/problem, so it is nice to know there are folks out there, ready to help.

Adobe download assistant won't even open

When trying to download the trial for Creative suite 6- design and media, my adobe download assistant just doesn't start up at all. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling that. I still get the same issue. I get a pop-up asking me to agree to the adobe air licence agreement but after pressing "I Agree", the software quits itself. So I can't even get my downloads to start. Any ideas how I can sort this?

Do you have other applications utilizing Adobe AIR successfully? Which operating system are you using?

I just click on the icon for iPhoto, and it doesn't open.... it says image not found? I recently put leopard on this computer, but i don't think it worked before then either.

You need to re-install iPhoto from the iLife disk or the System Restore disks that came with your computer.

After a few downloads, using "Save image as..." causes Firefox to download the image again even though its already on the screen.

You would think that having downloaded an image and displayed it on the screen, Firefox would be able to save the image to disk (using right-click, "Save image as...") without need of downloading it all over again. But that's exactly what it does after just a few image saves.
This can be both expensive and time consuming when I happen to be working via a mobile or dial-up connection, which is often.
Any ideas?

As an addendum, the 10.6.8 OS has also been sluggish when I log in or out of my computer (my old PowerBook G4 boots faster after being off). Otherwise, everything else seems normal.

Ichat closes unexpectedly..before it even opens.

I need help! When i click on ichat, the icon bounces for a few seconds, and then a pop up says ichat quit unexpectedly. retry, quit, or report. iv'e tried everything and it just does the same thing.. It's been this way for a few days. the only thing thats changed that i can think of is..that i downloaded msn messenger. If anyone can help i'd be sooo happy!

Finding the file is the first bit.
Double Click on your hard drive to open it.
Do the same for the Users folder.
Do the same for the little house icon with your Mac User's accounts short name on it (This is your Home folder)
(it is the same folder that shows in the side bar of the Finder windows)
Open the Library folder.
Open the Preferences folder.
The .plists are in here.
Deleting some for things like games or apps that you have had to enter passwords or ID info is not a good thing unless you have the details to do so again.
iChat has 5 such .plists Deleting them when iChat is not running will lose the Login info but doing so when it is running will get it to ask the keychain for the info as it closes.
This is why we say Delete the .plist in question and restart iChat.
Do not delete them all in one go. But delete one and restart iChat. This way you will know which one is causing the problem and save having to reset in a large way.
Learning is a doing process.

IPhone apps close before they even open.

When I was on iTunes I did a system update and now all my downloaded apps won't open.

Have you tried a reset?

Firefox crashes when run. Reinstalling, safe mode, and profile all bring up "Firefox has stopped working" before it ever opens a window

I've tried every solution on other posts. I've uninstalled, including profile information, then deleted all Mozilla folders, restarted, then re-installed and I have the exact same issue.
I'm running Vista 64, and the latest Firefox.
I've run various virus scans, and tried uninstalling all Flash stuff.
IE and Chrome both work, but Really slow compared to how fast Firefox ran (when it was working,) so I'd like to have it back.

Hello Simonmmm, any luck if you boot the computer in [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Safe mode with network support ](press F8 on the boot screen) and check firefox again.
(If works in Windows Safe mode then probably you have problem with other software, like security software or maybe a system driver, that is running on your computer).
