Firefox hangs every time I load Google, no other sit is a problem, any ideas please?

Detaisl are pretty much as above, for some reason when I use Google search, my deafult search engine. Firefox hangs. The only way I can get it going again is to claose the browser, I then get a not responding message from windows. Then start the browser again. I get the session restore window, untick the tab for Google and evrything starts OK.

This pops up over or in addition to the normal home page, or replaces your normal home page?
Since multiple browsers are affected, you may have some system-level malware, or multiple unwanted extensions.
You may want to run some supplemental scans. These three tools are highly regarded (and free):
* Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
* SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/
* AdwCleaner : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ ''(ignore banner ads for other products)''
Then disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized add-ons on these two tabs:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category<br>
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Exit and restart Firefox to finish that phase of the clean-up.

  • Firefox crashes every time I load it.

I have uninstalled and done a fresh install, I have created a new profile, deleting the old one, it won't open in Safe Mode, I have checked the crash report and don't hacve Backdoor.Ulrbot.C. Any ideas please?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Why does Firefox crash every time I search Google?

Literally every single time I search Google it loads up the results page, but immediately crashes Firefox. No Crash ID it just goes blank and reads "Not Responding" at the top. This only happens with Google on Firefox, but Google on *shudders* Internet Explorer works as normal...

I run Firefox in Safe Mode: the problem recurs.

  • Firefox Hangs every opening, but loads from internet to "home".

After downloading Windows Live Essentials 2011 Firefox (and Windows Explorer) hangs on opening every time though it is my primary start page. I can open it by internet access (i.e. windows update) back to "home". Are there problems with live essentials?

Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
Also, if you have some kind of security software installed which scans links like AVG Safe Search, AVG Link Scanner, McAfee Secure Search, McAfee Site Advisor, or some other kind of anti-phishing tool, try disabling it.

  • Firefox hangs every time I try to clear cookies.

Started having issues with getting into games, both on Facebook and other sites, starting yesterday. Have been trouble shooting everything, even my Mac IOS with Apple. (Have no trouble with Safari getting to any website.) So I updated to the latest Firefox, tried to refresh Firefox and have still not been able to clear cookies from history. It hangs and I must then force quit Firefox. In the meantime, I can't get to any of my games on Firefox. (The hanging when I try to clear cookies has happened for months.)

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.
*Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • Firefox hangs every time I click on something from Google - eg, link on a search result.

It takes me to Google fine, allows me to type in a search term, brings up the answers, but then hangs after ANY link I hit on that page. Only started a while ago. I'm using Windows 7, but not Google desktop. All other web sites are fine.

Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

  • Firefox 4.01 various problems - Any Ideas please?

OK so I have had Firefox 4.01 Installed for several days now and it is certainly far from the best browser I have used is a fair statement I think. I have tried 4.0 and that lasted less than 5 minutes! 4.01 is here and I am SO trying to get it to work and am failing fast. But still here and trying to find ways to get around the many problems. But I STILL fail to see why the Lads and Lasses at Mozilla see the need to change the tables and bring out a totally unstable browser which simply is not up to the usual standards that all (well OK nearly all apart from a few notable exceptions?) the rest of Fire fox version have been.
    My problems range from:
On Opening a New version of the FF browser I get at least 9 different browsers open, NOT 8 or !) but always 9?
I also get a copy of a Poker Site opening it's doors and inviting me in to play? I think this is a popular one as It opens at several sites when browsing ordinarily.
On being asked if I would like to save a particular password a pop up appears for the site. Now nothing untoward in this ? Except that it ONLY opens for certain sites. No rhyme or reason why it does it simply does, I can do what the heck I like though as it doe's NOT disappear when I chose my option be it yes or no or maybe. It does not close and as it is over the options tab for Firefox the only way to be rid is to actually close Firefox from the red cross and open it again, I then get the 9 lots of browsers open as well.
On closing Firefox it also opens as a Fire Fox page, no home page (Google Menu page for Google .co.uk) as it is set. Just a blank Fire Fox page.
And instead of opening at all the pages I had open as before it opens as I say the 9 different browser pages and none of them are even home pages.
I open another page in another window, I get the open window but nothing will open i it at all. Not the page I want to and none of the pages I bookmarked no ages at all just an open page.
Bookmarks, while we are on the subject, Bookmarks do not open as you would expect them to, hard to explain this one, bu Bookmarks do not open as you expect them to. I simply cannot explain how they open as I simply cannot remember as my memory is so bad. But suffice to say something is wrong with them also.
Add Ons, like the spelling/Dictionary British one. It has ALWAYS closed when it wants to. I check words and get say out of 100 words 10 are misspelled. I go to correct them and after I have corrected the first word it closes down? I.E. it stops highlighting words. I take out the checkmark for Spelling and then open it and check it again and then it seems to work OK checking all misspelled words OK. But it also misses some words too? Like it may see the word so and it spelled sol and it checks it and you can correct it. BUT it may see the misspelled word of spl (Sol)and that is certainly NOT a word! BUT it may not at first check it as a misspelled word? OK this time it has and may be next time I see a misspelled word I can point it out? But it ode also go wrong. And this is again something i am NOT familiar with as my memory is so bad I sometime forget how to spell words! But I do know as soon as I see them they ARE misspelled!
See my problem is I send them to Mozilla or whomever it is as a feedback report and It seems NOTHING is done!!! Now what gets me is IF the basic programme works 99% WHY is the new one so bad?? Where only 80% of it works as it is supposed to?? It is not good for the people who plan it out and is certainly not good for us who use it!! I am so far SO dis-enamoured with Fire Fox I am SERIOUSLY thinking of going to another Browser! And it is about as far as it can get before I do!! So PLEASE someone can they at least TRY and reply to this message and tell me some one is doing something....well not just me but ALL users of Fire Fox and MOZILLA products as there is going to be a mass exodus of users away from all this stands for and has stood for for years now! We are NOT imbeciles and please do not treat us as such! You MAY be very clever and are able to pu something like this together BUT you ARE human beans as well and never lose sight of that!
Give us something to look forward to!
    Yours Aye
    Chris Goddard

I checked the crash reports but could not establish the cause of the crashes. The number of tabs open is unlikely to have an impact upon this.
One of the associated bug reports indicates that it may be related to extensions. Try the procedure in the following link to start Firefox in safe mode and see if it still crashes. If it does not crash in safe mode it indicates that an extension may be causing this.

  • Firefox beta 18 "not responding" every time I load a page. This didn't occur as much with FF3.5.4.

I have tried various upgrades/updates of Firefox (4 and above). I currently have Firebox beta 18. EVERY TIME I load a page, the browser will always hang and I get "Not Responding" in the status bar. The hang time is usually more than a few minutes or I'd have to end the program through the task manager. Sometimes after the freeze, I'll get a "warning: script was unresponsive" popup and then it will freeze again (I can't even press 'stop script' or 'continue') because the popup is "not responding".
I don't seem to have this problem with FF3.5.4 (only this version has deemed compatible) however I can't view flash plugins/media or certain features of a webpage because it's not updated. Therefore I would not like to downgrade back to 3.5.4 because there's no point if I can't view half the things on a page..

If you've updated from a version as ancient as 3.5.4, then you run the risk of encountering problems. You should start with a fresh profile to ensure old preferences, data files and changes made by extensions are not interfering.
First, create a backup copy of your profile folder, just to be safe.

Then use the Reset Firefox feature.

Do not reinstall old versions of Firefox. They contain security vulnerabilities and shouldn't be used. Very old versions might also be unable to handle data files in your profile folder in their new formats, which can lead to all sorts of problems. And lastly, many websites require a modern browser to work properly.

    Hi,
Please [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved see this.] To open your profile folder: '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information''' > '''Open Containing Folder'''.
You can also try to start Firefox in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode] and in the first screen choose '''Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults:''' and '''Make Changes and Restart'''. This is the same as deleting prefs.js in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox profile folder], which erases all the manually set options as well as those set by extensions.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.<br />
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.
