  • Captivate hangs after certain animations

I have been putting Captivate 2 through rigorous testing for
    almost 3 weeks.
Problem #1: Multiple times after inserting an animation or
auto recording the movement of a window the Captivate File Edit
View etc. main menus will only quickly drop down and back up
without time to make a choice. The navigation bars will move, but
snap back to their original position unless you use the navigation
arrows. You can still save a project by clicking on the save icon,
but you must use the exit arrow or understant the Alt F C or Alt F
X key commands to close a project and exit the application. This
would be very scary to a novice user.
Problem #2: When recording in the Prt Scr Mode the
application refuses to record a screen if you do not frequently
press Prt Scr. Clicking other applications on the Window Task Bar
sometimes unlocks the loop, but frequently you must press the End
key and start recording again to get this Key function to work
    correctly.
I have not lost and test work, but I have frequently been
forced to completely exit Captivate, wait several seconds and
restart Captivate to get these behaviors to stop.
    Whats Up?
    vbtester

vbtester, you really haven't made your problem very easy to
see. For #1 you might be saying that during recording, some
background captures that you want, are not being captured during
auto-record ... I'm guessing because somewhere in there you are
referring to the old-style keyboard commands to close a window
(ALT+F+C and so on) ... and I haven't a clue how that figures into
    your problem.
If you are missing screen captures you need, try to get used
to using manual capture together with the auto-record feature.
Watch what you are getting (the icon will flash red on your system
bar each time a screen shot is taken) and if Captivate didn't get a
shot yoyu need, press the "PrtScr" key to manually get it.
YOur issue #2 sounds like you are doing what I suggested for
#1 and for some reason the "PrtScr" key isn't working properly. If
that is a problem, do one of two things:
Either change the manual record key to something else
(Options > Recording Options > Change Recording Keys (tab)
and see if that helps, OR ...
Go to Start > Run > (type) "msconfig" to open your
startup options dialog. It is possible that another application is
starting up with Windows, and is holding the "PrtScr" key hostage.
Disable that application and reboot to try again with Captivate.
Any of this helpful? If not, I might have misunderstood your
problems, so perhaps you could restate them in more descriptive
    step-by-step format?? Thanks!

  • Computer hangs on certain sites

Lately my iMac (OS 10.8.5) has started hanging on certain sites so I have to force close them. It happens no matter what browser I use, and so far it happens only on sports related sites. It doesn't happen with my iPad or my daughter's Macbook Pro. So far as I can tell, all my plugins, etc., are up to date. Any thoughts about what might be going on and what I can do about it?

    Eric,
Didn't work. I tried the Reset yesterday, then again today after emptying the cache. It seems that both Safari and Firefox are being tripped up by trying to load a particular ad. (In Firefox I can see what it's getting hung up on.) I think both browsers will deal with the problem in time. For now, I'm going to download Google Chrome and see if it can handle the ad.
    Thanks for the advice.

  • Firefox 4 beta on my and another system ended up not being able to load certain web sites ie igoogle so went back to 3.6 has anyone else had the same problem

firefox 4 beta ended up on certain web sites grinding to a halt then stopped responding igoogle is a prime example firefox 3.6 is fine with the web site it was not doing it till the 12th beta version and its happened on two systems so im not alone its resulted in me removing firefox 4 and i will wait until its officially released

Although FF4 is so nice I'm almost ready to ditch iGoogle!
Please fix what appears to be an RSS/iGoogle issue with FF4...
Gmail is fine, but titles dont show in most RSS feed gadgets and no stories, strangely, apart from this one:
    http://www.google.com.au/ig/directory?hl=en&url=www.google.com/ig/modules/builtin_news_technology.xml
Which if you enter the last part of the url reports that

    Any ideas?

  • Firefox hangs on all sites with flash content.

Firefox hangs on all sites with flash content. If I disable the flash plugin there is no hanging but obviously no flash content either. I have tried all the suggested actions found in the help sections for hanging and plugin problems. The Honda UK site listed below is one of many I am unable to access with flash enabled.

The key here will be to determine what is different between the machines that work and those that hang.  Of all the systems that fail, they are all Windows 7 32bit?
Yep, this issue only happens on Windows 7 32-bit machines, currently 6.
Do you have any 32bit systems that don't fail?
Yep, the most Windows 7 32-bit machines wont fail.
What about hardware, are there similarities here?  Attached devices/drivers?  Software that is running at the time?
These machines are all from DELL. They all have normal hardware, nothing special. Other machines from same type does not affected. Software: All have standard software distributed via Software-distribution (GPO). Only some PCs have special software, but it is not running. No special drives, too.
Maybe try booting Windows in safe mode to see if it still hangs?
Good idea, indeed - I will try this.
We're definitely interested in what's going on.  I'll ask our security and Mozilla folks to see if they have additional clues.
    Thanks!
    EDIT:
Safe mode: Flash is working! (without disabled Protected Mode!)
I've set msconfig now to: Custom system start and deselected the boxes to load systemservices and system start elements.
So, now windows does a non-safe mode boot but no service or element was loaded except the drivers (right?). Flash is not working with this config!
So, whats the difference between safe mode and normal boot with minimal configuration (see attached picture).
Only drivers will be loaded, right? If so, I can exclude the network and graphics driver as source: graphics driver are updated right now and network was working in safe-mode.
    Any new ideas?

  • High CPU/hangs on certain sites on Dell 9010 AIO

The issue is that Firefox hangs with 100% CPU for approx. 20-30secs when we load/move tabs a bespoke site that uses Javascript but only when using the new Dell 9010 AIO that we have just purchased. It works fine on all other Dell's and other makes/models.
We are running the latest version (23.0) of Firefox on Win7 64-bit. Originally this included SP1 and all current updates/hotfixes but went down to a bare Win7 install to try and rule out as much as possible.
Restarting Firefox in Safe Mode makes no difference.
Running Win7 in 'Safe Mode with Networking' fixes the issue. In normal mode I have tried stopping all services that aren't started in Safe Mode but there are 4 that cannot be stopped:
    - Group Policy Client
    - Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    - Security Accounts Manager
    - Task Scheduler
so I can't rule these out as possible culprits.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I've been pulling my hair out on this one for over a week.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

You can retrieve the certificate and check who issued the certificate.
    * Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
    * Click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer.

  • Safari and Firefox stalling on certain sites

Certain internet sites like the New York Times and ESPN seem to make Safari and Firefox stall completely. Anyone have a solution for this?

Try using the Activity Window when visiting one or two of the problem sites. I found that one site was loading two flash files, each over 1 megabyte. Instead of loading the rest of the site, these files stalled the entire site, or Safari, until they were loaded. In the Error Console I'm seeing lots, more than two dozen on one site, of Javascript errors. Again, I think it's a combination of bad/outdated programming on some sites and something broken in Safari.
I think the issue boils down to sloppy programming on some sites and changes to the recent build of Safari. I don't know if the recent OS upgrade broke Javascript and I wish there were a way to reinstall it alone to see if that fixes part of the problem.
I also notice that with OS 10.5.6 and Firefox that same problem sites are also slower to load, but not nearly as slow as when using Safari. Logging in with Tiger and its version of Safari is definitely a better experience.

  • Firefox hangs every time I load Google, no other sit is a problem, any ideas please?

Detaisl are pretty much as above, for some reason when I use Google search, my deafult search engine. Firefox hangs. The only way I can get it going again is to claose the browser, I then get a not responding message from windows. Then start the browser again. I get the session restore window, untick the tab for Google and evrything starts OK.

This pops up over or in addition to the normal home page, or replaces your normal home page?
Since multiple browsers are affected, you may have some system-level malware, or multiple unwanted extensions.
You may want to run some supplemental scans. These three tools are highly regarded (and free):
    * Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
    * SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/
    * AdwCleaner : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ ''(ignore banner ads for other products)''
Then disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized add-ons on these two tabs:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category<br>
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Exit and restart Firefox to finish that phase of the clean-up.

Thanks in advance for ur help

YouTube videos use the Flash plugin. You can test your Flash plugin and see what version is installed by going to [http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ Adobe's Flash Player test page]. To update Flash to the latest version, see [[Managing the Flash plugin]].
Starting in Firefox 3.6.4, Flash is loaded in a separate plugin-container process. For the background, see the articles [[What is plugin-container]] and [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins Plugin-container and out-of-process plugins (MozillaZine KB)].
If Firefox hangs when playing Flash videos at YouTube, it could be a video driver issue, Try turning off hardware acceleration in your [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player display settings] (visit any page that uses Flash, such as [http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ Adobe's test page], then right-click the Flash animation, select Settings, and uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration" on the Display panel). ...More information here:

When i start Firefox HDD LED displays constant HDD activity, but Process Monitor did not displayed high I/O load, it displays instead firefox "I/O device error" while reading file %AppData%\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\410taza7.default\safebrowsing\goog-malware-shavar.sbstore. Hi sguy,
Thank you for your question, I understand that Firefox is hanging. Please see [[Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix]]
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [[Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems#w_5-reinstall-firefox|here]].
<b>WARNING:</b>Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your [[Profiles|Firefox profile]] data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u> See [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]. <!-- Starting in Firefox 31, the Firefox uninstaller no longer lets you remove user profile data.Ref: Bug 432017 and https://support.mozilla.org/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer/discuss/5279 [Fx31] Windows uninstaller will no longer offer the option to remove personal data -->
Please report back to say if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • Firefox hangs. Period.

Firefox just hangs, whenever I do ANYTHING. Nothing in the "firefox hangs" section helps, not does it even really fit my problem. It just hangs whenever I try to go to a site. Any site. Or no site. Whenever I click something, it just pretends to start loading and hangs up.
The only solution I can think of is just reinstalling it, but I want to try finding a less drastic measure first.

I have circumvented this mostly by running internet explorer, and using Firefox only for browsing when I need to make use of it's addons. In this way I've had the problem re-occur maybe once or twice in the past two weeks. It's not really a solution but it does seem to help, and I'm no longer sure the problem IS firefox but using it certainly exacerbates the problem.
I've only just updated to firefox 6, so I am not entirely sure how that will go just yet.

  • Why does Firefox hang when I try to open yahoo? It also hangs after I use it for a little bit.

When I try to open yahoo Firefox will hang and when I try to restart it will close but stay running. It seems to have started when yahoo went to the new version.I reset my screen resolution to 1152 by 864 pixels like yahoo said no difference. Firefox will also hang if I go to several web sites with out going to yahoo. I changed my home page to Hotmail instead of yahoo and it will open just fine. Any help will be appreciated. Rodney. • FireFox hangs up for a long time on most pages and sometimes never loads them. This is new phenomenon. What can I do to resolve this issue?

I attempt to open up a site. Firefox hangs for a 20-30 seconds on most sites and sometimes never opens the page, despite leaving it open for a long, long time. I find that if I go up to the address bar and hit "enter" on the page I'm trying to go to that most of the time I can then load the page after a couple of tries. This is obviously annoying and never used to happen. I'm looking for a fix. Thanks!

I had done that already. I brought it down to 30, which was recommended in another thread.
For most sites, Firefox works fine. But some of the primary sites I use for work hang up for long periods of time and frequently never load. I've tested the same sites with other browsers and they load quickly, so it is a Firefox issue.
Please help me keep Firefox! Thanks!!

== Not sure when it statrted

    Hi.
When this happens, please press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and see how much RAM and CPU Firefox is using. If they're sky high, then... Well, that kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
    #run Firefox in safe-mode to disable all extensions and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
    #update all extensions and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#disable all extensions and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
    #enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic extension, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all your extensions (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all;
#you're done! You've fixed your problems with problematic add-ons.
Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
    #do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
    #disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix you issues with Firefox, proceed;
    #check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. Except make sure you've followed my instructions correctly.
