Firefox hangs whenever i search anything

Firefox hangs whenever i search anything until i do it is fine,
i also have to manully close it - the process dosen't end,
it works perfectly in safe mode. is this an addon or something, i havent added anything to it it is fresh out of instillation.

Short answer YES, if firefox works in safe mode and not otherwise something such as an add-on is causing problems.
The first thing I notice is that you are using 4.oBeta8 this is an experimental version, you would be better using the current firefox 3 (3.6.13) unless you are confident about firefox use.
Although you may not have manually added anything yourself it includes according to your System Details a few plugins.
Are you also using firefox 3, by default firefox 3 and 4 will be in slightly different locations, it would be good practice I think to ensure you use separate profiles for each if you continue to use both.
The easiest course of action may just be to install version 3, or uninstall version 4 beta. '''First ''' as a precautionary measure make a manual backup [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20and%20restoring%20bookmarks#w_manual-backup (see)] of your bookmarks from your current firefox (both versions if you have two versions) firefox should not loose bookmarks, history and forms etc details, whilst up or downgrading but better to be safe.
Regarding the problem with searches hanging have a look at

* and if you keep both versions of firefox [[Managing profiles |set up]] a separate profile for each

  • I downloaded an upgrade for norton provided by comcast. now firefox hangs whenever trying to open a webpage.

i talked to copmcast support and norton support. finally i am here. want to know if i should upgrade to firefox 5 from 3.? to fix the problem

You shouldn't still be running Firefox 3.0.x or 3.5.x, they are old versions and no longer supported by Mozilla. Currently, Firefox 3.6.19 and Firefox 5.0.1 are the supported versions of Firefox.
Sorry, I can't advise you about Comcast's version of Norton. Although I am too a Comcast broadband customer, their "free security" isn't a bargain if they aren't capable is supporting it for their customers beyond their limited "support scripts".
I use Avira AntiVir Personal which is free for personal use. I am a strong proponent against using anything from Norton ''(over a decade of problems, on and off from like 1986 to 2002, when I swore never again)'', and trying to deal with Comcast support, forget it. If it involves anything except for Internet Explorer "they don't support it". It's almost like they hire the tech school dropouts who didn't cut it selling computers at BestBuy or Staples as "technicians".

  • Firefox hangs. Period.

Firefox just hangs, whenever I do ANYTHING. Nothing in the "firefox hangs" section helps, not does it even really fit my problem. It just hangs whenever I try to go to a site. Any site. Or no site. Whenever I click something, it just pretends to start loading and hangs up.
The only solution I can think of is just reinstalling it, but I want to try finding a less drastic measure first.

I have circumvented this mostly by running internet explorer, and using Firefox only for browsing when I need to make use of it's addons. In this way I've had the problem re-occur maybe once or twice in the past two weeks. It's not really a solution but it does seem to help, and I'm no longer sure the problem IS firefox but using it certainly exacerbates the problem.
I've only just updated to firefox 6, so I am not entirely sure how that will go just yet.

  • My Firefox freezes whenever I try to search with Google. I am still able to close the browser, though. How can I fix this?

Whenever I attempt to utilize Google to search anything on the internet, Firefox will freeze. However, I am still able to close the browser window and end the firefox.exe process in order to open a new browser window, but it is annoying an inconvenient to have to do this frequently. Help!

Might be because of a malware.

While streaming internet radio via itunes, the music hangs up and stalls whenever i do anything online

this issue just arose over the last month or so and no changes have been made to my bandwidth.
    Except for the following possibiblites:
Your bandwidth might be being throttled by your internet provider.
Your internet may have a fault.
Perhaps your Wi-Fi security has been breached by someone nearby.
Perhaps the other services (Grooveshark and Spotify) use a lower bandwith (I don't know).
For numbers 1 & 2, try a speed check to see if your internet connection is as fast as it's supposed to be.
For number 3, change your password to your Wi-Fi.
For number 4, check the Bit Rate of each stream.
On the other hand, if this new information that you added is fact ( it actually occurs if I even listen to music from my iTunes library, not just internet radio ), then perhaps iTunes is at fault and the best fix may be to repair iTunes.
To repair iTunes, download the iTunes installer and when you run it, use the Repair option.

    Hello kmanthie,
I just sent you a private message. If you are not sure how to check your forum messages, this post has instructions.
I worked on behalf of HP.

  • My firefox opens, but it won't search anything. At all.

Ever since it had asked me to update it, which I did, it hasn't been working. It doesn't search anything. I type things in the search bar, and it won't work. It won't search, the page stays at the home page. Nothing changes.
I uninstalled it, adn re installed it to see if it was an error, but the same thing happends anyways.

Just restart Firefox and it will open back in 'normal' mode. If it works in safe mode it is most likely an extension at fault. See

  • Firefox hangs when clicking "Options" on any add-on in the add-on manager.

After the latest update the add-on manager window hangs whenever i click on the options for any add-on. The main firefox window works fine, but i am unable to to go into the options for my add-ons. Moreover, my search engines keep rearranging and disappearing. I dont know if that's relevant, but I thought I should add it too.

I installed 4 different extensions ... when I click on addon manager and click any extension "options" the whole addon manger freezes up for me as well. I can't close or escape the window. I can open another browser window but the old window with the addon manager is frozen so I must use task manager to close.
After trying many options this worked for me ... I uninstalled Adobe Flash plugin and reinstalled Shockwave Flash 11.0.1.152 ... I do not know why or how but it fixed the problem Now everything is working HURRAY!

  • Firefox hangs after first Google Page Loaded

Firefox recently has starting hanging in Google after the first page of a search is displayed. IE runs fine
    I have Firefox 3.6.6.
What is happening? I cannot continue to use a product that doesn't work
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == within last few days

    Update
Ok so after uninstalling quicktime then scrubbing the hard drives for any and all associated files/folders and then cleaning the registry, rebooting then reinstalling quicktime it works, but only 60 % of the time (seems as though if you have opened any kind of drop down list or used a diff plugin on that page already the quicktime plugin and firefox hang. If you open the page and use the quicktime plugin before anything else it semms to be ok.
Zsolto Chrome really!!!!! With the amount of information gathered by Google and the things they do with it which are borderline criminal if not criminal why on earth would you use such a program???
There is an open source version out there created by other people that is just as good and doesn't monitor your every move.

  • Ince updating my firefox browser whenever i click on an internet link in an email it does not open on firefox although my mac switches to the firefox window as this is my default browser- what to do? Previously this has always worked without a hitch...

ince updating my firefox browser whenever i click on an internet link in an email it does not open on firefox athough my mac switches to the firefox window as i have this set to be my default browser- what should i do?

I have the same problem, and I also wondered if Google toolbar has anything to do with it. There GMAIL was set as the default mail application at first. I have removed that setting, but Firefox 4.0.1 continues to use GMAIL instead of Outlook which is my selection for mailto handling.

  • Firefox hangs -- no fixes work -- even if I uninstall it, it stays open in task manager!

UPDATE 2: Disregard update 1: The problem's still there: If the computer goes into sleep or hibernate, Firefox hangs when I wake it up and the problem proceeds as described. I think it's something to do with Firefox sync and/or various add-ons. I suppose I should now try the long process of gradually allowing sync permissions and add-ons until I find the particular one(s) that are causing the problem but I'd prefer not to! Any other sugestions?
UPDATE: This problem now seems to be fixed. I tried a clean install and it seems to be working, so far. The only difference is I'm no longer using AdBlock plus (coincidentally and unrelatedly), so it's possible that's what was causing the problem.
I'm running the latest vesion of Firefox on Windos 7 (32bit). It always works fine for the first few webpages but then hangs forever. Specifically, it appears to be loading the webpage, but nothing happens, not even the 'failed to load page'.
If at this point I close Firefox, it gives me the 'Firefox is running but not responding' message. If I try and close Firefox from task manager (which continues to show it using a big chunk of memory -- bigger than when it's actually running!), nothing happens.
At this point I'd tried all the obvious things: Refreshing Firefox, disabling add ons, etc. (there's no reason this should've been the problem since I use sync to run Firefox on Android and on another Windows 7 computer (64bit)). So I tried to uninstall Firefox, then reinstall it. When I went to run my newly-installed browser... Firefox was STILL running! I tried this again, from scratch, and found that it really was still open according to Task Manager, despite not appearing in the list of installed programs in the Control Panel!
    So to summarise:
    1) Firefox stops working after a while and hangs
    2) It refuses to close even if it isn't actually on the PC anymore
    3) The only way for me to fix this, so far, is to reboot my computer every time Firefox hangs... Which is all the time.

Anyone with very similar problems, please see my posts above.

    ===Hi berndf,===
    Sorry you are having problems.
I know this can not be affecting everyone. I have tried Fx36.0.1 on Windows 7 and do not notice any particular problems, although it may possibly sometimes take a few minutes for Firefox to fully close down. I do not think there is a very big surge in this sort of question being seen on the forum.
If you don't mind please start your own question, that way we get your full details and can try to solve your problem.
It is probable that there are multiple possible causes of this sort of issue.
I often try to avoid using Windows. Must admit I am not sure why processes may exist but not allow Task Manager to kill them (Presumbly we are talking ''firefox.exe'' here running under your own user name and not some system process)
That is straying into a Windows topic, but it is directly relevant. Any Windows expert wish to enlighten me please ?

  • Firefox hangs many times..

Firefox hangs many times. It's very annoying. It crashes after a pop up which says :
(Warning: Unresponsive Plugin; Shock wave flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding.)
I updated the flash player another day but still this problem continued. Some other day a similar kind of pop up came but it didn't said anything about Shock wave flash but it is a script problem.Firefox always hangs because of some script problem. When i open Windows media player, Photoshop on the other side..Firefox hangs. I never had any problem with Firefox before.

The 2 plugins which are out of date are java-deployment-toolkit and Adobe Acrobat.I never use to update them. Can that cause this problem too ?
