Firefox hangs with script running

Firefox takes about 3 minutes to close down even with all extensions disabled. It comes up with a script error:
Script: chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:85
I've never used Chrome so I don't know what this is referring to. Any suggestions on trying to remove this?

I have had this problem reoccurring for several "updates" to Firefox. I am currently on 3.6.13 It was so bad I was ready to switch to Chrome. I would get a "script error" - the program seemed to be in a loop (judging by the CPU usage on the task monitor) and I usually had to just kill the process.
I am on XP Home Edition SP3.
Others have pointed to a problem in the extensions -
I looked at my extensions and apparently the browser had updated Java Console 6-7 times - and the previous versions hadn't been deleted. I deleted all but the latest (6.0.21) and the problems seems to have been resolved.

  • Firefox hangs with a "Script not responding" error message; in the meantime there are more and more flashplayer instances running

Recently I receive errors from Firefox at sites that were working fine before, always the same: a script is not responding, and I can wait, debug or stop. Waiting doesn't help (therefore pointless to change the 'dom.max_script_run_time' setting in the config); and also pointless to debug because the problem is not with the script. "Stop" eventually gets firefox to work, until the next error message which comes very soon.
I tried to reinstall both Firefox and Flashplayer, even manually wiped the traces from the user profile and program files. They are the latest 35.0.1 and 16.0.0.305 available now.
=> In the meantime, there are reproducing instances of flash players are spawned and running. They stay running even after firefox is closed or terminated.
=> if I disable the flash player plugin everything's fine except of course flash is not working. If I re-enable it, the problem starts over.
    OS is Windows 8.1

Retard, (I know that sounds hilarious, but I don't know your name - no offense please! )
Like you said, if this happens only primarily on one of the many sites, it generally comes down to the type of code on that site.
And after looking at the URL you posted, seems like that page uses a lot of external references - JS and CSS.
    Especially the last few lines:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://njcdn.worldsecuresystems.com/CatalystScripts/Java_OnlineShopping.js?vs=b1763.r38875 7"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://njcdn.worldsecuresystems.com/CatalystScripts/Java_Cookies.js?vs=b1763.r388757"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://njcdn.worldsecuresystems.com/CatalystScripts/Java_Box.js?vs=b1763.r388757"></script>
Also, a couple CSS, JS references in the <head> section.
'Display External Files' only disables showing external files - but still loads them.
Can you try removing the external references and try working with the webpage in DW for a few minutes to see if the same problem persists? If it does, we know what was causing your issue.
Also, run your site through W3 validator to check and resolve errors: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.healthfirst.com%2Facls-kit.html&charset =%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
Let us know how it goes.
    Good luck.

  • Firefox Freezes with Script Error

Firefox keeps freeing/hanging. First you will see the errors that pop up for me. Then the troubleshooting I have done to solve this problem.

For troubleshooting I have tried the following:
disable addon's and restart in safe mode (did not help)
disable theme and restart in safe mode (did not help)
    reset firefox (did not help)
uninstalled Firefox & removed all traces of browser from my computer (yes even the registry was removed)
-------------- after doing the above I still had all my previous settings. I used IE to download a fresh copy and tired again. Still have all my settings, plugin's, tabs, and unremoved cookies and a little history
I am not tech savvy but the script errors made me think of Javascript. I went to about:config and searched for Java when javascript.enabled showed up I disabled and the problem has disappeared.
I know I need this javascript enabled. I cannot do much of anything at my site with is disabled.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this script hanging problem.
    Thanks for any help.

I reinstalled, Adobe Flash updated and problem fixed.
Fred if I could I would send you homemade bread, cookies, fudge, most anything you want.
Thank you for taking the time to help me fix this problem.

  • New version FF3.63 causes a faded screen with script running in the background. I understand it may not be entirely compatible with 64bit units. I was perfectly happy with 3.59 and would like to downgrade, is this possible and how?

Been using Firefox forever. All of a sudden it starts hanging 5 seconds after it loads. If I uninstall Firefox then re-install it works perfectly for as long as needed. After I close the application then re-open it freezes every time.

  • My other computer's Firefox hangs with a Print pop-up.

On Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091102 Firefox/3.5.5, I've been getting 5 or more unattached pop-up windows during reboot. They may or may not be from Firefox.
Today, on my other computer, I found a solid clue that they are from Firefox when a Print pop-up covered the unattached pop-ups. Clicks the PDF drop-down takes me to the Save File pop-up, where no icon clicking does anything but the Cancel. (I has used this a couple days ago).
One of the 5 or more unattached pop-up windows will accept a password entry, but neither icon functions. These windows require the master password for the Software Security Device, whatever that is.

When I hover over the window, it does come up front, but as soon as I press the red "X" it goes immediately back to the main window and acts as if I was trying to close that one. Once in a while it will work, but shortly thereafter, it will just go back into this manner. Quite odd. This is the first time I've truly had any problems with Firefox.
In addition to that problem I have noticed a few things, but one that may be linked is sometimes I'll click a link. Although I haven't specified to open it in a new window, it will do so anyhow. This gets annoying quickly. Usually shutting down Firefox and reopening will fix this (and once in a while just leaving it be for a long time). Somehow, I think this issue is somehow linked to the one above.

  • All kinds of problems with scripts running and slowing things down. It always has to do with "chrome". I sick of it and am going back to IE if I can't get this resolved this weekend.

What do you want to know.....it's been going on for months and I can't seem to get it resolved. It's definitely a conflict with FF and why you can't resolve it, I have no idea. I've searched the net and these error messages are everywhere. Don't you think it's time you address this.
At this point I really don't care if I use FF any more. It's slowing everything down on my machine and if you don't have the experience to correct it, then back to IE I'll go.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    *https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Firefox hangs with 100% CPU at (obviously) random times

Several times a day, my Firefox suddenly responds pretty slow and within seconds it no longer responds at all. The CPU usage of firefox.exe goes to 100% and the whole browser seems to be frozen. In some cases, the memory consumption in the TaskManager also increases slowly (about 8KB/s), but not always. However, after 30-60s the problem suddenly vanishes and everything is fine again.
An interesting detail: Firefox uses a lot of memory; I am not sure whether this is normal. Currently, I only have this tab opened, but it still uses 166MB! The peak memory usage even says 351MB, although I did not have more than 8 or 10 tabs open at the same time (no YouTube or similar memory intensive sites).
The problem might be caused by an update to an extension; at least I remember that there was an update shortly before the problem first appeared. However, I do not remember which extension it was. I have disabled almost every extension (only TabMixPlus, Download Statusbar, and TinyMenu are still active), and the problem is still there. It is hard to find the reason because the problem only happens three of four times a day and at random times, so it is hard to reproduce.
    Some questions:
    1) Anyone has got an idea what might cause these problems?
    2) Is there a way to see which extensions have been updated recently?
    3) Is there a way to see which extension uses how much of the CPU?
    Thanks in advance!
    gehho.
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week
== about two weeks ago (maybe after an add-on update, not sure which)

    Just some additional info:
I just had the problem again, and it even occurred when I did not have any tab open! I did not even use Firefox, but just wanted to start to use it, but it did not respond. There was _nothing_ open, and when I checked the TaskManager, the memory consumption was up to 300 MB, and the CPU was again at 100%. After the CPU was down to 0% again, the memory slowly decreased as well. First, to ~260, then to ~200, now to ~170 MB. Maybe it will decrease even further...

  • Firefox with avira run in background having some periodic lagging issue

Firefox 5 with avira run in background is lagging like 5 ~ 10 minute period.
this was after avira installed a new feature called WebGuard, is it had something to do with the lagging? or just my hardware failure?
i being monitor the task manager, but nothing suspicious going around, and the CPU usage didn't shot high at all...

Because I know enough to be dangerous...  I was trying to extend the two outside columns down....  Instead of just using faux columns which I have fixed since I posted the question.
The other link problem is the left sidebar links.  When you go to the event photos page I have a repeat of the sidebar links that are on the newsletter page.  I used named anchors on the newsletter page to link to the particular article.  From the Event Photos page the links look like this:
    <a href="1112Visions_Iss1.html/#puzzle" target="_self">[Puzzle]</a>
The problem I am having is that some of these go to the newsletter page and the anchor and some do not (I get an error message saying it  can't find the page).  To add to the problem is that when we choose say the President's Message, when it goes to the newsletter page and the correct anchor, the newsletter page is missing all the links to the graphics... the photos are missing the graphic for the faux columns is missing.  It makes no sense.  When I preview the newsletter page from Dreamweaver everything shows up fine.
I do not know if all of this is being caused because I haven't posted this stuff to the site or what.  I've tried re-booting both the browser and Dreamweaver, dumping the cache and still the same nonsense.
    Got any ideas?

  • Scripts running a lot?

I have a problem with scripts running a lot. They hang up my page when i'm trying to search or navigate for stuff.A box will come up saying "long running script"..Is this normal because of the browser doing stuff or is it something else?

    Hello SK
All your workflows, assignments and validation will be lost in new repository.
Moreover, for exclude problem with starting repository on new environment you should do next steps.
1)If some WF in process you should develop some application that will get record_id and current WF step(or do it manually) and save that information before start your migration activity.
2)after that you should delete all WF(and its history), assignment, validation.
Congratulation, you are ready to start migration.
I'm not sure that your unix script can manage mdm syndication server, only if that script run some application working with SAP MDM API.
In that case you should modify application because in SAP MDM API 5.5 and 7.1 is different.
To Clix application - in SAP MDM 7.1 has been added some changes in command string notation.

  • CS5 hangs with smart text reflow during scripting

    Hello,
I have a batch script that opens each input file in a folder one after another and saves them as indd and pdf.
Now I have run across a problem.
The script opens the input document (a special xml format for our plugin, this opens one InDesign template and places some content into a specific text frame), then run preflight to check if there are overflows etc. and then saves the content to indd and pdf.
The input template has smart text reflow enabled, with adding new pages at the end of the document and deleting empty pages because I do not know how much content will be placed.
    I have some strange issues:
In ID CS4, the script runs fine, but some times I got preflight errors for some documents (different ones on each run). If I open the documents afterwards, it seems the smart text reflow did not run before the script saved the indd (and so preflight found an text overflow).
However in CS5, InDesign hangs at some time during the script - windows task manager says it is not responding. This happens at a random file (not the same each time), the first ones before came out as expected.
Because of the preflight issues in CS4 I have made a test and created a new template with disabled smart text reflow and already added the maximum number of pages for my content. Now the script runs fine in CS5 (without hanging). But this way I have emtpy pages I do not want.
My assumption is, that the smart text reflow does run some sort of asyncronous and gets in the way of saving/exporting to pdf the file. A "$.sleep(5000);" after opening/placing does not help either.
Is there any way in scripting to force the smart text reflow or to wait for it until it is finished?
Below is the relevant part of the script.
Has anybody a solution or workaround?
    Best regards,
    Ingo

I keep having a script run when I am playing Face Book games Especially Battle Pirates and it freezes everything. What can i do to stop it? Or fix it so it dosen't freeze my game?
This script runs over and over while I am playing Battle Pirates. Every time it runs it freezes the darn game and I have to click and click on the screen before a box pops up with a long string and asks if I want to stop the string. This is what it says:
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete."
    " Script:http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/rsrc.php/...tS5XVSwP/ks:42 "
What is this and dose it need to run or is it a hacker messing with me and my FF browser ?
When I'm in the middle of a battle screen and it freezes it messes me up. If I am in full screen when it freezes it throws me to another open Browser tab or out of full screen if i don't have another open.
What is this? Something to do with FaceBook? A Hacker ? A BP game glitch. please help. This is driving me crazy. Imagine being in the middle of the best part of a BP battle and freeze.... then click click click i go and zoom to another open window away from the battle so i no longer have a view of the fight let alone control it or boom to non full screen and 1/2 the screen is obscured.
It just happened again while I was typing this request for help. I have a window open with BP also and it took me there. HELP
