Firefox has been redirecting google searches to sites that have no relation whatos ever to the sear ched words. i have done a virus search with none found. any suggestions

firefox is opened and google automatically comes up, search typed, then sites appear that have no connection at all to words searched or even categories!

Probably caused by either Malware or a search redirect Rootkit.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.)''''' <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
''Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.''

  • Firefox has been redirecting when I try to access my Credit Union. Why?

    When I tried to access my credit union site I have been redirected to a mortgage site. This has happened twice in the last three days.
    The window says unable to find and gives me a link to a refinance site.
    This is a Federal Credit Union site.

    How are you trying to access that credit union website?
    A link on another website, a saved bookmark, or other?
    What is the URL of that website?
    Be nice if we could try to replicate your problem with real information.

  • Firefox has become noticeably slower - particularly in closing - i haven't timed it but sometimes it seems to take at least a minute for it to finally close - any suggestions?

    i also get a message sometimes that says something is going wrong with a script - i always choose to stop the script - i don't know if its related
    the slow closing isn't an every time occurrence but happenes more than 50% of the time - it seems to get worse the longer Firefox has been open

    My first reaction is it sounds like you're pocket dialing your passcode?  In iOS 6, it used to be you could go Diagnostics & Usage Data under Settings and see if things were crashing on your phone due to bad memory, but don't know if that works in iOS 7.0.4 on the 4s, but that's the first thing I'd look for.  (I think crash notifications return in iOS 7.1?)

  • Firefox has been crashing since I downloaded V 4.0.1 - how can I download the previous version, which almost never crashed?

    The other day, I was able to start Firefox in safe mode, but have not been given the option since. What can I download to fix this?

    #Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] and download it to the desktop.<br><br>
    #Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).<br><br>

  • Lately it has been taking longer for Firefox to open and will lockup occasionally. Firefox has been my browser for years and I have never had this problem before. Its there anything I can do about this problem?

    Once this happens, it takes a while like it is catching up but eventually will clear the jam. It has locked up and or crashed and I manually have to reset my computer.

    This can happen if you've zoomed the page. That effects the screen dimensions as reported by JavaScript and seems to confuse Yahoo.
    Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

    Can someone tell me if this is a problem with Google or Mozilla? or both? or neither?

    This type of behaviour can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes]
    * [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
    * [http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Ad-Aware]
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx Windows Defender]

    This link may help - http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2010/02/remove-google-redirect-virus.html
    If the above malware scanners do not find any malware or can not clear it, you should consider posting in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:

  • Lately I've been getting Google searches redirected instead of going directly to the website that's supposedly linked through Google. In addition, I occasionally get a new tab opened in Firefox that asks me if I want to take a questionnaire.

    Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
    You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
    Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

  • Does Firefox OS have a feature that alerts or notify's you if an incoming call has been redirected or diverted to your phone (from another phone)?

    Hi, Was wondering if
    Firefox OS have a feature that alerts or notify's you if an incoming call has been redirected or diverted to
    your phone (from another phone)?
    This feature was common in basic phones and feature phones but is absent on Android, Apple
    and Windows phones.
    It's useful if your operating a business and want to distinguish if an incoming call is a personal
    or a business call.
    Cheers
    Greg

    Hi GregCh,
    I understand that you would like a way to distinguish between incoming calls that were dialed directly to your phone number, and incoming calls that were forwarded to your phone number (from another phone).
    Unfortunately, there is no such feature in Firefox OS that I am aware of. Forwarding services such as Google Voice may have settings available that would allow you to distinguish the forwarded incoming calls, but I am not entirely sure.
    Please let us know if you have any other questions about your Firefox OS device.
    Thanks,
    - Ralph

    There can be multiple reasons for crashing. Seeing this article would be helpful as it lists out the solution for this-

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    Firefox has been asking everyday to update to the latest version. When I said ok it said that my Google bar wasn't compatible so I declined the update for weeks.

    You seem to have Firefox 5.0 already installed and the Google toolbar will not work with that version or any future version of Firefox. Firefox 5.0.1 is the current version. Firefox 6 is scheduled to be released (replacing Firefox 5.0.1) on 08-16-2011 (subject to change).
    Google decided that they will no longer produce the Google Toolbar for Firefox beyond Firefox 4. <u>Future versions of Google toolbar will only work with IE7-9. Google Toolbar is not available on any other browser, even Google's own browser.</u>

  • Malware that redirects Google to sales sites.

    '' locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/855549''
    I have some sort of malware that when I use google on Firefox, I’m redirected to generic sales sites. I’ve tried Nortons, Malwarebytes, Spybot, SUPERAntiSpyware. All find Trojans and other demons, but not the one that’s causing the central problem. So far Internet Explorer is also good, but I prefer Firefox.
    Can you help?

    That type of exploit might be caused by a Rootkit virus. See if this article helps you.<br />
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-tdss-tdl3-alureon-rootkit-using-tdsskiller
    If not, see [http://www.google.com/search?q=search+redirect+Rootkit+virus&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a this Google search] - but you may need to use a different browser or different PC to access those search results.

  • After Firefox has been running a while, every link opens a new window

    After Firefox has been running for a while, every link starts opening in a new window. Until today, if I closed Firefox and restarted it, it would stop happening ... until it started happening again. Then today, I closed it down and restarted it, and it was STILL happening. So either I find a solution, or I stop using Firefox on my Mac.
    This is a vanilla installation - both for the Mac and Firefox. I don't use the Mac as my main computer. The Mac is running OS X 10.5 8. The problem has existed through many upgrades of Firefox. I always upgrade as requested. This last time, however may have been the killer. A new upgrade was installed right before the problem became unfixable by shutting down and restarting. I'm running Firefox 15.0. I just rebooted, however, and now (for now), it's working properly.
    I have no add-ons installed in Firefox.
    My only plug-ins are iPhotoPhotocast, QuickTime, SharePoint, and Shockwave Flash.
    I've seen multiple reports of this problem on this Web site, but no solutions. Just a generic recommendation to disable add-ons to see which one is conflicting. But I'm running no add-ons. I think there's a bug in Firefox.

    If it were an extension or theme or a Mac driver, wouldn't it cause the problem consistently? This only happens after Firefox has been running for a while. I'm using Firefox to type this reply right now, and the problem is not happening.
    And it's not because I suddenly start using some offending software. As I said, I don't use the Mac as my main computer. Usually I'll have been using my PC, I'll go back to the Mac to check my email on Firefox, and suddenly the link problem is happening. I only use the Mac to check email on the server before I download it with Outlook (on the PC) so I can delete spam on the server first.
