"Firefox has stopped working" whenever I open it.

Today I tried to use firefox for the first time in a few months (as chrome wasn't working for something). When I opened it, the Windows "Firefox has stopped working", "Check online for a solution and close the program" or "Close the program" window pops up. It pops up before the firefox window even opens or anything. I reinstalled the newest version and it is still doing it. Can anyone help? Thanks!

    I updated to Firefox 4 and now I get a Firefox has stopped working mesage whenever I try to load any websites. I updated my video driver and cleared my history to see if that would help. I looked for a crash ID on the homepage, but the last registered crash is from February. I also tried to open in Firefox safe mode, but the problem continued to occur. • Firefox 4 Crashes while toggling between multiple open profiles (Firefox has stopped working)

    So this problem just started occurring since I upgraded from firefox 3.6.5 to firefox4.
    Sometimes I need to have two separate firefox profiles open at the same time. This is accomplished by making a second shortcut to your firefox.exe with the switches -P NewProfileName -no-remote (e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P new -no-remote).
    With firefox4 the second profile opens fine, but as soon as I select first profile it crashes with the windows error message "Firefox has stopped working." It doesn't send any crash reports to Mozilla, so unfortunately I can't give you any crash IDs (I checked about:crashes and there's no entries for the pertinent dates).
    I'm currently using windows vista.
    Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!

    It was fixed! You'll need to either wait for Firefox 4.0.1, or if it is really bugging you, get a pre-release (nightly) version today:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-2.0/
    Anything 02 April 2011 or later should work in the above directory.
    Here was the bug report that led to the fix of the problem, if interested:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=639885
    Crash occurred on Hulu Pogo and Blip (and other sites), but applying the pre-release April 2nd update fixes it.
    Good luck!

    Every 5 minutes or so Firefox will freeze and if I'm on a website that uses the flash player the ads and what not will stop and an error thing replaces them and says Adobe Flash Player has crashed. Then a window pops up and says "The Plug-In container for Firefox has stopped working..." or something like that. Then my laptop will work slower until Firefox crashes. Any solutions ?

    I have tried a Clean reinstall but it did not help.

    Hello,
    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
    ''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
    '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
    ''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

    Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
    '''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
    #Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
    #After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
    #Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    #*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    #*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
    #Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    ##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    ##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
    Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Get error "Firefox has stopped working" under Windows 7

    I'm running Firefox 3.6.10 (just upgraded, I was at 3.6.9) and every so often (maybe 1-2 days), Windows 7 decides to crash it with the error "Firefox has stopped working". Firefox itself does not seem to be generating a crash id, which is disappointing since that way it would be reported. I run a LOT of tabs, at the moment I have around 100 open. I notice that the CPU usage seems to get very high (it shows 25% for me, but I have a quad core machine so I guess that is 100% of one CPU) as well as memory (1.5gb). It's almost as though Windows thinks that Firefox has stopped responding because of the high CPU usage and decides to terminate it.
    I've seen some posts here reporting similar problems, but no resolutions. I also saw a post elsewhere suggesting disabling throttling in Windows but saw other posts saying that had not solved the problem.
    Any suggestions on how to fix or troubleshoot this problem?

    I have this problem too. Now i'm using win7 64 bit, i installed the newest firefox 6.0.2 and yahoo messenger 11 -> i got this problem. First time i think this is a firefox's error. I decide to use process hacker (a mini tool to manager running process) to find out what is happening and i found this: the program name "YahooMessger!.exe" run a few second and it calls the firefox crash popup lol. I uninstall the firefox and i see "YahooMessger!.exe" auto run in process hacker! ^^ conclusion: i uninstall Yahoo Messenger 11 and delete two folder of yahoo in my username's document (1 of them have the program "YahooMessger!.exe"), reinstall firefox and get out this problem!
    So my question is: what is "YahooMessger!.exe", is it a yahoo's part, is it a spyware or virus? Here is the link of this file, i have archived it with winrar http://www.mediafire.com/?lf8tc9fal5rxlup

    '''[http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ Download Firefox Full Installer For All languages And Systems]''' {web link}
    Save the file. Then;
    Using your file browser, open the Programs folder on your computer.
    '''Windows:''' C:\Program Files
    C:\Program Files (x86)
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder.
    '''Linux:''' Check your user manual.
    Look for, and rename any Mozilla and Firefox folders by adding '''.old''' to them.
    Now run the full installer.

    Hello jobzaa, sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
    * [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
    Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.
    Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • Why am I continually getting "Firefox has stopped working" messages?

    Seems like constantly, several times a day, I receive the message "Firefox has stopped working" and that Microsoft or Windows is searching for the problem, and then it shuts down. When I open Firefox again, it takes me right back where I left off, with another open window. Also, since running an update a week or so ago, every time I click to open another site I get hit with the "Do you want Mozilla to allow this change?" That didn't happen before. Both are very annoying. I also lost my RoboForm toolbar unless I juggle back and forth the "Full Page" setting after dropping down the open menu bars. I am not, by any means, a computer whiz, so most of the help FAQs are written above my knowledge of computers level. Now when I just clicked "Automatically add" Troubleshooting info, at the bottom of this page, I got a pop up that said " Firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on this computer". Now I'm really lost! I don't want to reset back to Default because I'll never get back the settings I currently have.

    Regarding the message about allowing a change, is there more information about what the change is?
    You have quite a few plugins, and they might not all be necessary. To minimize the influence of add-ons while you're troubleshooting this problem, I suggest the following.
    Open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Plugins.
    * Set unrecognized or rarely used plugins to "Never Activate"
    * Consider setting "player" type plugins such as QuickTime, Silverlight, and Shockwave Flash to "Ask to Activate" so that sites cannot run them automatically. As you discover sites you want to allow to run the player every time, you can click the notification icon in the address bar (looks like a small Lego block) and give permission there.
    In the left column, click Extensions.
    * Remove unrecognized extensions, or disable them
    * Disable rarely used extensions (for example, you don't use it daily)
    Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Hopefully this will help keep Firefox more stable.

  • "Firefox has stopped working" occurs frequently

    Recently FireFox has begun crashing repeatedly and at unexpected times. Simply presenting me with a dialogue box saying 'FireFox has stopped working'. Vista 'tries to find a solution' but to no end.
    The crashes seem to occur exclusively when new websites are opened, or when I trigger some means of new data transfer. For example, I can load a website successfully and leave it up for hours without crashing, however if I were to click a link from that page it would most likely crash.
    No particular websites appear to cause the problem. Even clicking simply links from Google can cause it. Yet the same link a few moments later on a second try can work fine.
    Finally, it seems that FireFox is causing other applications - that use it - to crash also. For example if I click a link that opens Windows Media Player, some times WMP will 'stop working' in the same way. If I download files and then attempt to open file location via FF's download box, Windows Explorer will 'stop working'.
    I do not have any crash reports available, but help would be greatly appreciated.

    get message saying firefox has stopped working & have to reset it every time. also home page somtimes shows only text & suggests disabling page reader
