Firefox icon has a white "no" symbol (circle with diagonal line from top left to bottom right) superimposed over it. Clicking it yields: "The application 'Firefox' cannot be launched" followed by: "-10661"
I’m a novice and a Mac user. Don’t know computer lingo. About a week ago, while working at computer, I received repeated unsolicited messages, presumably from Firefox, to update to Firefox 4.0. I attempted to comply by clicking, but maybe clicked something wrong and now can’t open Firefox. Hope I don’t lose all my bookmarks. Advice welcome.
Possibly unrelated - highlighting the icon then clicking “Get Info” yields “Kind: Application (Intel)”. Only mentioning this because, being an “iMac G5 / PowerMac8,2 / PowerPC G5 (3.0) / Version 10.4.11”, this computer doesn’t have Intel processors.
Thanks
You're welcome.

I'm trying to load updated Firefox 4, when the blue drop down menu with the firefox icon and Applications folder icon (prompt to drag firefox icon to apps folder) the firefox icon has a white circle with a line through (like a "do not enter" symbol)
Hello puma1552,
Are you referring to the *Do Not Disconnect* screen display while your iPod is plugged into and syncing with iTunes? Check out this Apple support document for its meaning and why you are receiving this icon. This icon always appears when you are syncing your iPod with iTunes. It's basically a warning message telling you that the iPod is currently in use and should not be removed.

Dreamweaver Template: circle with diagonal line in editable region, but can still edit
Since upgrading to Dreamweaver CC 2014, for only one of dozens of clients, in a Template, I get a circle with diagonal line in editable region, but I can still edit it, I just can't click to the spot that I want to edit, I have to navigate there with the up down left and right arrows on my keyboard. And, I created a new Template and it didn't happen, until I "got" a file, and now it happens in the new Template too. What's going on?
Sorry, I'm new here. Do you mean like a screen shot? I just thought maybe somebody had seen this before and would just tell me "you need to uncheck the something or other"

I updated my computer to the new software and now the iPhoto has a circle with a line through it. When I first try to open it the pop us says: "You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X. Version: 9.2.1" When I try to update, it pops up to say "These apps cannot be accepted by your apple id - These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID and they will be available in that Apple ID's purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the application". I checked and there is nothing under the "purchases" in my App store. Then will say "update unavailable with this apple id - This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or canceled." Then the third pop up says "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again". Just want to know how do to fix.
After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:

Got it! Thanx. What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed. -
HT2711 MacBook Pro shows circle with diagonal line
MacBook Pro shows circle with diagonal line
It means it can't find the operating system. And no MacBook Pro can run Mac OS X 10.3 or earlier.
The minimum operating system for any original MacBook Pro is some version of 10.4.4. Some later ones can only run 10.10.

Macbook won't start - apple icon turns to circle with diagonal line/slash
My Macbook won't start. When I turn on the power, the apple icon appears but then after a while it changes to a circle with a diagonal line/slash, then it just shows a gray screen.
The last time I used the computer I did several software updates. Could this be causing the problem? Any suggestions for getting my computer operating again?
Thanks for any help/advice.Yup, i encountered the same experience after a strange failed USB-loading, and a sudden shutdown of my macbook.
Luckily i manage to "safe-boot" (pressing "Shift" key once starting up the mac) my macbook so that i can save the necessary files before will lose them all.
After that i popped-in my SL Installation DVD, and did the reinstallation process. Fortunately, everything works as charm and everything is back to normal after Spotlight has done it's hard work.
Happy Apple user once again. -
Circle with diagonal line when trying to adjust keyboard backlight
I have ever since I bought my Early "11 MBP 15" been able to use keyboard backlight in any ambient light conditions, at full or no strenght. However as I tried to clean up something I spilled on the keyboard, a magic key combination rendered the function keys for keyboard backlight useless. Instead I get the circle with a diagonal dash through it. In preferences keyboard backlight is set to on... Please help!
Oh I get it... It's supposed to be off if enough ambient light is around. Guess that makes sense... Covering the light sensor next to the iSight camera dimmed the screen and keyboard light came on!

When I hover the curser over the box I'm writing this in, but before an characters have been typed, the symbol keeps showing up, on and off.
First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

White circle with diagonal line on start-up where the black Apple was
Started up an A1138 powerbook. It showed the black Apple, then the revolving little hairy wheel for quite a while, then replaced the black Apple with this circle and now just sits there. Any ideas? Thanks
Thank you. This is a very interesting article, but I think I am in deeper trouble than I was before. I reset PRAM/NVRAM, held X during startup and ended up with a blue blank screen after a few seconds. I next reset the PMU, as per the article, with the same result - blue screen. I next tried to start up from my Leopard DVD; the optical drive did a little spinning but never loaded and I'm back at the blue screen. In addition my DVD is now stuck in the drive. My usual solution, either holding down the clicker on the trackpad, or the Eject button, or both did not cause the DVD to eject. I had some problems earlier, before all this happened, and did manage to re-install Leopard, but a little later got the problem with the broken folder icon as described in my post.

MacBook starts to boot and then has the "no" symbol (circle with a line through it)
Tried to reboot but now get the ?
Any ideas?Something is messed up with the Disk.
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Can't install Firefox 4 on Mac OS 10.4.11. After I download it, the Firefox icon has circle with a crossline in it when I try to install.
Sorry, the official version of Firefox 4 requires Mac OS 10.5 or later, and an Intel processor.
You can download an unofficial version that works with 10.4 and PowerPC Macs from http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
or you can download the previous version from http://www.firefox.com/all-older.html -

I have a big crossbar mark over my FF4 icon after I've installed and replaced FF3. When I try to open the software, I get "You can't open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture." What's up with that?
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html -
what to do my ipod touch 4g is updated to ios6 now it has a white scren and wont turn off and to top it off the homebutton does not work at all please help me
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
-When it says place the iPod in recovery mode use this program instead of the buttons.
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Cannot register my iPod through the Apple website link
On the right side of the screen, under the AppleCare section, there is an option to register your product. I clicked on that, and I got a message saying that "the requested application is not available on this server". Is there another link?
