Firefox icon name changed to "gmail"

Ok this has been happening a few times, even though i don't know how. It never happens to me, but happens to my dad when he uses the computer even though he never notice it. I think it only happens when he's using Gmail, but not sure why it says gmail instead of firefox on the icon.
Anyway on the Firefox icon it says gmail on the i think it changes automatically, but I'm unsure why.

Hello again and thanks for your reply!
Please forgive me for the delayed response, but due to, what appears to be a fora glitch, I received a notification about your replying only a few moments ago.
I started responding to your reply and then realized that you have modified your original reply since. Your original reply was:

@CAKCy i thought it could be that, but wouldn't quite make sense to me, cause the icon is pinned to Start Menu. If the icon is renamed from the desktop it wouldn't automatically change from the "pinned start menu"

Your reply puzzled me a lot until I looked again at your image and saw that, at that specific point in time, Firefox (or gmail) was '''not''' pinned on the Start Menu (since there is no divider to be seen).
Now... Your modified reply:

@CAKCy i thought it could be that, cause i removed the icon on the start menu "remove from list" and Mozilla Firefox shows up instead of the renamed gmail one.

...refers to the "recent programs used" list, maintained by the OS itself. If you remove a program from this list (selecting "Remove from this list" from the context menu) and the specific program is open already or is run after you remove it, the program will be re-entered in the list with the name it has at the time of closing it. (Confusing, huh! :P)
Here's what, I suspect, happened:
1. Your Dad renamed (inadvertently) Firefox to gmail
2. You start the computer, see gmail on the Start Menu, and remove it from the list (the list now does '''not''' contain either gmail or Mozilla Firefox)
3. You rename the icon on the desktop to Mozilla Firefox and start Firefox
4. You check the Start Menu and Mozilla Firefox is there (since it was re-inserted in the list when you started it).
I hope this helps! :)

2 questions -
1 - Is there a way to move an icon from the 2nd home screen to the 1st home screen? I can't seem to get it to work. They wiggle and move, but won't make the jump back to the primary home screen.
2 - Is there a way to change the name of an icon after it has been made? One of mine is too long and I'd like to shorten it.
Thanks in advance

Yes. Just push the icon way to the left of the screen. It should move over there.

No, you need to delete it and make another one, if you are referring to bookmark icons.

• Why does the mac dock firefox icon suddenly say c-vcxzcxz...cxzcdxz instead of firefox?

The icon name changed yesterday, no reason.

hello creambo, please update firefox to the latest version (firefox 18 at the moment) & see if this already addresses the issue.

• Is there a known security vulnerability where "Firefox" under desktop icon is changed to "\'/.;|" ?

I went to use Firefox this AM and noticed the changed Name under the Firefox icon. At first I thought it might have somehow was corrupted until looking at the symbols- \'/.;l -and thinking maybe there was something more to it.
I'm running Mac OS X and should be most current on both OS and Firefox versions.

Thanks to all for the replies. Fixing the icon name was never an issue. Understanding how it changed was. I buy into inadvertently striking keys but still can't figure out how the shift key combo character was created.
I tried recreating one in a text document using a legal notepad, which is the only possible culprit (sits next to my keyboard), with no success. I guess it was a real fluke.
Thanks again, I'm all set.

• Changing firefox icon in Applications Internet?

Hi, I know I know, Gran Paradiso is the same, but I removed "Grand Paradiso" and used the AUR and yaourt to install firefox, the official one. So, I can make a launcher on the desktop and its the Official Firefox icon, but if I make one in the System > Admin > Main Menu, it will still show up in Applications > Internet as the Icon for Gran Paraiso, that blue orb. Why is it that creating a launcher on the desktop uses the firefox icon and Internet > Firefox is still the blue orb. I did try and drag the desktop icon the the Main Menu editor as well.
Help to change the Applications > Internet > Firefox icon???
THANKS!

hi there, found a bit of info for you from here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gnome_Menu_tweaking
pacman -S alacarte
that will install menu editor if you havent got it yet. then what i do from there to change the icon is open Alacarte by right clicking Applications, select Edit Menus.... find Firefox that i want to change.... right-click it, select Properties... change Name to Firefox or whatever you want, click the icon on left side to change to what you want (this will all be done on the Properties window). anyways i hope this helps you out. good luck
edit: maybe you could also try a new icon theme out from gnomelook.org if you havent already.

• When i drag icons from the adress bar to the desktop they are changed to the firefox icon, how can i keep the sites icon?

Rather than use favorites, I like to drag the icon in the address bar to the desktop or a folder to create a shortcut. In my older computers the icon in the shortcut was the same as the icon in the address bar. in my new Win 7 computer the icon is changed to a Firefox icon. How can I prevent the icon from being changed?

If you drag a link or favicon on the left end of the location bar onto the desktop to create an internet shortcut then that shortcut gets the icon of the default browser.
If you want a different icon (favicon) then you have to assign that icon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties).
You can usually get the favicon if you append "favicon.ico" to the main domain of a website (e.g. http://www.mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder or see if you can find it in "Tools > Page Info > Media".

• I have the problem that other have had, PDFs changing to Firefox icons

All my PDFs had changed to Firefox icons and when trying to open them only the Firefox browser page appeared and I could not locate my files. Uninstalling Firefox worked fine, my files returned. One person mentioned imported profiles from an old computer being a cause but I was working on a new laptop with nothing imported from old equipment. I only installed Firefox because of small irritaing annoyances with Google Chrome, but those were only minor after the problems caused by Firefox. An extra couple of clicks is nothing compared with having lots my files messed up and inaccessible. None of the solutions proposed seemed particlarly useful long term so for the present not using Firefox seems the most practical cure. My difficulties occured on a laptop using Windows 7, I am typing this question on an even newer laptop with Windows 8.1 and I am now reluctant to try installing Firefox on this machine. It is a shame as my daughter always recommended Firefox as being a more secure browser.

If Firefox detects via a registry scan that there is currently no file handler application that handles PDF files and a few other file types then the Firefox updater/installer registers Firefox as the default application to handle these file types.
This causes them to show with a Firefox icon on the desktop and in other places like Windows Explorer (Bug 452254).

• I hate the new flat Firefox icon; how do I change it back to the nice 3d one?

With the upgrade to Firefox 23, you've changed the Firefox icon to a new flat design. It's horrible; I hate it; it looks awful. I want to change it back to the old swish looking 3D style icon. How do I do this please? I'm on Windows 7 64bit.

This page has .png files of old logo 128*128 works well:
https://blog.mozilla.org/faaborg/2009/06/18/the-new-firefox-icon/
Use this page to convert to .ico file:
http://www.convertico.com/
Save the created icon to local computer.
Then download this and use to replace icon, you need to load your FF application, change appropriate icons, and save. FF can not be running when you save.
Also go to desktop and taskbar, right click icon, go to properties, and change icon.

• To change the icon name displayed by default while an ALV is displayed.

Hi Experts ,
Need to change the icon name EXPORT displayed by default , while an ALV is displayed to Download to Excel.
How can this be achieved?
Regards.

Hi,
You can copy the Status 'Standard' of the program 'SAPLKKBL' and create a Z. Change the icon name in the Z pf-status as wished. Now in the event slis_ev_pf_status_set of 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY' set the PF-Status to the Z that u created.

• Change of Icon name

How can change icon name for project in iphone,
I tried changing bundle name in xcode that change reflects in simulator but not in iphone,if any body has a idea
<Post Relocated by Moderator>

When I needed to change my product name from "MyApp" to "MyApp Lite" I read several threads here, obtaining one or two pieces of the puzzle from each. Here are the steps that finally worked for me:
To rename an Xcode project and its product:
1) Rename project folder
2) Rename .xcodeproj file
3) *Delete Build folder
4) Project->Edit Active Target->General: Edit Name
5) Project->Edit Active Target->Build->Packaging: Edit 'Product Name'
6) *Project->Edit Active Target->Build->Language: Edit 'Prefix Header'
7) Repeat 5-6 for all configurations (Debug, Release, Distribution)
8) *Rename _Prefix.pch file
9) Build->Clean All Targets for all configurations
The starred steps may not be necessary, but I'm reporting the exact procedure I logged just to be sure. I think you can also omit the repeats in step 7 by following iphonemediaman's advice to select "All Configurations".
Note that the above changes your PRODUCT_NAME definition, which may change your App ID. So if you intend to submit your renamed project as an update, you may need to reset the Bundle identifier in info.plist. I.e., if this field includes the default '${PRODUCT_NAME:identifier}',
replace that portion of the id with the previous project name to build an update:
10) Edit 'Bundle identifier' in info.plist: com.MyCompany.OldName
Finally, if your new project name includes spaces, these must be removed in two places:
11) Remove any spaces from 'Bundle identifier' in info.plist
12) Remove any spaces in the name of the zip file you upload to the store

• [Solved] How can I change firefox icon permantly?

I want to change the Firefox icon in a way that I don't need to redo it after every Firefox Update (I heard rumours that this happens rather often )
So far I just change the entry in /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop
Icon=firefox
-->
Icon=firefox-original
, but this is not persistent! Maybe I searched for the wrong terms, but I couldn't find a solution, yet.
Help appreciated!

• Changed pinned Firefox icon, but it returns to default when opening. Help?

I have two different profiles of Firefox pinned to my Win7 taskbar. I changed the icon on one of them to distinguish between them, but the change is only visible when FF is closed. Once I open the Firefox with the changed icon, it switches back to the default icon, the same as the other pinned profile.
I tried deleting the icon thumbnail database, no change.
How do I make the icon stay changed when opening Firefox?

This sounds rather like it is a question relating to the Windows Operating System rather than Firefox itself. You may get an answer faster on some Windows forum.
Or maybe do websearch e.g.
