Firefox in Linux poorly renders fonts

Hello, when I go to http://famo.us fonts in my Firefox on Debian don't look very well (example in attachment).
The problem exists also when I start Firefox with -safe-mode and in Firefox Developer Edition.

Try to update your graphics driver: [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]

  • Can't see global settings in firefox in linux

"Note: The Settings Manager that you see above is not an image..."
Adobe is assuming I can see the Settings Manager, but I can't.  It's not displaying.  What is wrong?  I thought I installed Flash Player correctly.  I can watch Youtube.  I'm using Firefox in Linux Ubuntu.

  • How can I get a list of open web pages in Firefox (in Linux)?

I would like to know how to get a list of open web pages in Firefox (in Linux), because I have a shortcut to open a web page and I want to get it to see if Firefox has the page open first so that it doesn't open duplicates.

You see the "List All Tabs" button in current Firefox versions if there are that many tabs open that you get the Tab bar scroll buttons appearing.
Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.

The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Firefox 5 some web sites fonts are not work.

I try to visit this sinhala language web site using Firefox 5 latest version. Then that site not properly display (Fonts are not work). Then i again downloaded that web site fonts and install them. But again that web site not properly display.
If i visit that web site using "Google Chrome" or "IE" i can view that web site properly. This problem only happen for Firefox 5. Older version Firefox 4 work properly with this site.
This is that web site fonts download link -http://www.lankaenews.com/font/sinhala_tamil_fonts.zip

You can set the pref gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled to false on the about:config page to disable downloadable fonts and make Firefox use a locally installed font.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

  • WD Abap - Firefox and Linux

    Hi Folks,
we are using WD Abap running under Firefox and Linux ( a special modified linux version) on some production-terminals.
We have the problem that our application (which has no timeout and makes a roundtrip fro some reasons every 30 seconds) gets a call - we guess from firefox - so terminate about all 5 minutes or so.
the WD Framework goes into the routine IF_WDR_RUNTIME~HANDLE_EXIT of class CL_WDR_MAIN_TASK .
Does anyone has an idea what the problem could be, even no dumps are available just the application says "timeout of user-session".
    kind regards,
    oliver

What version of Firefox is this exactly? You should check the PAM ( http://service.sap.com/pam ) to see if that version of Firefox is supported on the version of NetWeaver that you are running. If you look at the PAM there are the full listing of Linux versions that we support as frontend clients and the versions of Firefox that are supported on them.  If you combination matches the supported list, then I you could open a support ticket to report the problem.

  • How to add the flash plugin in firefox beta linux x86_64

Someone give me the solution in a live chat session so I share it here.
If you are testing firefox under linux (x86_64 in my case) and the flash plugin is installed but not detected by firefox, it's probably because you are testing it in a single user environment.
For example, you have downloaded and unarchived firefox beta in your home directory :
    /home/toto/downloads/firefox
And flash plugin was already installed in :
    /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
All you have to do is to create a personal plugin directory :
    mkdir -p ~/.mozilla/plugins
And then, copy the flash plugin :
    cp -a /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/

A symbolic link to that file should be sufficient.

  • Shockwave doesn't work on firefox under linux mint 17, qiana

I use Firefox 33.0 Mozilla Firefox for linux Mint: mint - 1.0
I use linux mint 17, qiana. Cinnemon, 32-bit.
As extensions for Firefox I use Adblock Plus 2.6.6.
As plugins I use: DivX webplayer 1.4.0.233, Iced-Tea webplugin 1.5, OPenH264 video codec provoded by Cisco systems, Inc. 1.1, Quicktime plug-in 7.6.6. , Shockwave Flash 11.2.202.408, VLC Multimedia plugin (Compatible videos, 3.10.1), Windows Media Player plugin (compatible Videos 3.10.1)
    When I surf on a page http://www.jkp.com/media/wysiwyg/MindReading/demo/content/dswmedia/loader.html
I get the information: "a plugin is needed to play this content"
Since this url was under a button "View shockwave Demo" on page http://www.jkp.com/uk/mindreading/demo/ I presume that the pluging that is needed is a "Shockwave Flash" plugin, but I have installed that.
So what do I have to solve the problem?

It is looking for the Shockwave (director) player and not the Flash player.
Adobe does not provide Shockwave player for Linux, only on Mac OSX and Windows. Besides it is more for few games and learning stuff and it used very little compared to the Flash Player for most users.
As you can see it is only for Windows and Mac OSX.

  • Adobe reader x has poor rendering. Some few bugs in there.

Adobe Reader X has some few adds and a beautiful interface. The product however has poor rendering especially when i try to copy text that exeeds to the next page not in view. The find box also creates some patches on the screen while scrolling, blocking text. It also takes a long time to respond when document is minimised for a long time: the tool bar disappears or becomes blank; menu bar has blotches; and reading screen sometimes appear black.

  • Why does firefox want to use different fonts on mounted hard drives

On Mac OS 10.6.5 using Firefox 3.6.12 upon opening Firefox, I get a dialog box that says "Firefox want to use the font "TremorlTC TT" on the volume "USB BU".
This happens for both of my external hard drives. It gives me the options: Show in Finder Don't Allow or Allow. I have tried all 3 and neither solves the problem.

Move all User fonts in Font Book to Computer fonts:
    # Launch Font Book (/Applications/Utilities/)
    # Open Font Book > Preferences
    # Deselect: "Automatic Font Activation"
    # Set the "Default Install Location" for fonts to Computer
    # Select all User fonts.
    # Move the selected User fonts to Computer fonts
    # Remove all duplicate fonts in Computer fonts

  • Preview is not rendering fonts well in PDFs

    Hi,
For some reason Preview is not rendering fonts well in PDFs.  I have created high quality PDFs using two applications (Illustrator CS5 and Numbers '09) and in both cases the fonts are not rendering correctly in Preview.  They generally look much less sharp.  I am attaching screenshots below, with the original image first and then the PDF in Preview.
When I look at the same PDFs in Acrobat Pro the fonts look fine, so I am presuming that the issue is with Preview.  Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?
    Thanks,
    Nick

It looks like, at least in the Navigation menu, that your using Palatino font, which isn't a web safe font. So Explorer is probably substituting another font when it finds fonts not installed on the viewers computer.
You may be using the default font in a particular iWeb theme. These aren't necessarily web safe fonts.
For your pages to look better on most computers, change all your fonts to web safe fonts which you can find in the "font inspector window" in iWeb. (there is a "font" button on the bottom edge of the main iWeb window) There, you will find different categories of fonts, you want to use any of the fonts listed under "Web" group of fonts.

  • How to stop automatic pop-up window "Firefox wants to use the font "Stone Sans Sem OS ITC TT Semi"?

Everytime I open Firefox I get the irritating pop-up window "Firefox wants to use the Font "Stone Sans Sem OS ITC TT Semi" on the volume, the font is not installed. I installed the font, but I still get it.
The window gives me options "Do not ask again" "Show in Finder" "Don't Allow" "Allow".
I click "Do not ask me again" and "Allow" but I keep getting this every time. How to stop it?! Thanks.

See [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567552 Bug 567552] – Fonts on External drive are activated by Firefox, and preference to not ask again is ignored

  • CS review not useful for presenting UI comps due to poor rendering

I really want to love CS review. It could become such an important part of my workflow that I'm willing to overlook many of the small shortcomings (lack of printing, no versioning, clunky illustrator UI, etc) until they can be improved.
Unfortunately the show-stopper for me is the poor rendering of small elements at full scale. Illustrator CS5 goes a long way toward making it easier to create sharp and precise UI elements but that precision is lost as soon as the file is uploaded to acrobat.com. I believe it is the conversion to pdf (or flash?) format that is causing the issue.
I have tried sharing vector artwork from within Illustrator CS5; rasterizing elements before sharing; and exporting PNGs (which look perfect when viewed in photoshop) first and then uploading. but all result in the same chunky, fuzzy, imprecise typography and graphics.
This could be fixed by native support for PNG format but I'm concerned that adobe will hold fast to the idea that PDF is the universal document format and that there's no need to support anything else.
If i'm missing something here please share your tips. Otherwise, it looks like i'll be switching back to conceptshare.

  • Poor text font rendering and display resolution

While I am a software database developer, I know VERY little about HTML/CSS coding.
After updating to Firefox v18 yesterday, the font text rendering seriously degraded! The resolution now is very poor and fuzzy! IE9's resolution is "perfect."
Both browsers are running on a fresh new custom install of Win7-64 where NO special global display config settings have been made.
Since this problem occurred after the FF v18 upgrade and did NOT exist in IE9, it seems as if this problem is specific to Firefox.
After searching Google for several hours now without finding any intuitive-sounding solution nor knowing what to look for, I have posted this request for help in hopes someone will please kindly reply back with a fix.
PS: Sorry for the duplicate post... Had problems with the first submission due to the Email Registration process.

Try to set the gfx.content.azure.enabled pref to false or if this didn't help disable Direct2D by setting the gfx.direct2d.disabled pref to true on the about:config page and leave hardware acceleration otherwise enabled.

  • Firefox will not render the font "maximo" correctly in the browser. It renders correctly in Chrome and Safari. Why is this?

I am designing a website and having difficulty with @fontface in Firefox only. Font is "maximo" and is a ttf. It renders perfectly in Chrome and Safari but will not do so in Firefox. I changed my firefox preferences to allow pages to choose their own fonts and wonder if there is something I am missing. When I checked the Tools menu drop down and opened the inspector, the inspector shows that the font is rendering as Helvetica. I am using a mac and running OS X 10.9.5. I would be happy to send screenshots.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes.
If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

  • Firefox not rendering fonts [SOLVED]

I'm having this problem for some time, but it never bugged me too much. Yet, I still want to find the cause and fix this issue.
Firefox doesn't show me the correct fonts on some websites - not even on this forum. I'm using infinality patches, if that matters. There's a screenshot below showing the difference between firefox and chromium, with chromium rendering the fonts correctly.
Please advise or give me a hint. Thanks

huh! that was quick from my part: I found the issue - I had to set the presets in the infinality bundle created by bohoomil.
