Firefox insists on freezing computer while checking for updates I have said not to check

Firefox repeatedly checks for updates of disabled addons. I have DO NOT CHECK FOR UPDATES enabled, but . . . WTF FF ignores my options as if they weren't entered. I've done all I can.
I'm pretty tired of trying to open FF and being delayed while FF pleasures itself at my expense.

Yes, the Intex website does say that the phone has v1.3 installed. (http://www.intexmobile.in/product_detail.aspx?PID=191&PCatID=3#)
But in the settings it says that the software version installed is '''Intex_cloud_FX_V07''', and the update channel is '''release-spreadtrum'''. Does it mean the Intex uses its customized version of the OS? If so, how do I switch to the ''un-customized'' version.

If you're really using iTunes 7.0 you are very far behind the current version - maybe it is trying to connect to a decomissioned server.  In fact I am kind of surprised it will run on a Macbook Air.  Are you sure you are running iTunes 7?

  • "Check for Updates" button in iTunes not working

    Hi there,
Forgive this post if it is a repeat - I searched and didn't see this exact problem though (but perhaps it's a common one at any rate).
I have a lot of apps on my "Applications" page, and until recently, iTunes did a great job of allowing me to quickly check and then download all of my updates (usually on a daily basis) from that page. Now, when I click the "Check for Updates" button at the bottom of the window it says I have none - even though my App Store icon confirms for me that I indeed have several updates ready to roll.
I have de-authorized, re-authorized, restarted (computer and iPhone), re-logged into my account, and even deleted some and re-downloaded some of the applications.
Does anyone know what might be happening?
    Thanks in advance,
    Max Izod

you may need to uninstall and reinstall itunes. reauthorize the account after doing so.

  • When I try to check for updates on my iPhone 4, it checks endlessly.

I also can't check for updates or install through iTunes as it doesn't seem to think the phone is plugged in, ''Connect this iPhone using a USB cable in order to update or restore its software.''

When I start the backup, it says there is 2.9 GB of space available. The times it would not complete, it never gave progress. I tried again this morning (7am) & it showed progress & I considered that an improvement. It is still plugged in ( noon ) & running (or appears to be) & says about 2 days left.....  I will leave it a while & see what happens & then try your instructions if it still does not backup. I was reading the FAQs on this & it said something about deleting old photos that are on iCloud. I have moved all pics I want into iPhoto. If I delete old ones from iCloud, will it leave the ones in iPhoto?
    Thanks!

  • Error message after checking for updates says I do not have permission to install and to contact administrator. I am the only user/owner of this computer so I AM the administrator. How do I install the update? I am using a MacBook Pro.

MAC OS X 10.6.8. I can download and install a new version, but I'd rather just update. I can only assume this has to do with computer settings but I could not find anything settings that seemed related to this issue.
I currently have Firefox 3.6.3. I don't use it all that often.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • 8330 - 'Check for Updates' button on website not working

With device 'on' and connected to my PC by USB, I have repeatedly tried the website update button over the last week. Nine times out of ten, the instant I click produces 'Error on page' at screen bottom and repeat clicking gets me nowhere. Once in ten tries, a progress bar opens at screen bottom. It usually takes 30 minutes to reach 50% and by 45 minutes, there has been no further progress and 'Error on page' is displayed. I have the BB Desktop Manager software installed on the PC.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just perform the upgrade manually... much easier and safer (in my opinion):
See the link below, for the download and simple installation instructions.
First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.
    1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • Can I maually check for updates but prevent them from being automatically installed if it turns out one is available?

Can I maually check for updates but prevent them from being automatically installed if it turns out one is available?
    Background:
In options I have "check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them" ticked. This works fine, in that I periodically receive a notice of an available update, and it will ask me whether I want to I want to install it.
But there are certain times -- for reasons I won't go into here (unless requested as part of seeking a solution) -- where I want to manually check for new versions, but RETAIN the ability to decide whether or not to install it. But if I click Help/About Firefox/Check for Updates, and it finds an update, it will immediately proceed to install it without asking for permission. While that seems quite inconsistent with my update preferences in Options, it is apparently normal behavior as described in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version#w_how-do-i-manually-check-for-updates.
So is there any way I can manually check for new-update availability but then refuse the update if I so choose? Once an unwanted install begins, I'm concerned that if I click cancel I could end up with a partial installation or some "messed up," duplicated or corrupted FF files (e.g., multiple versions appended with (1), (2) etc, similar to what sometimes confusingly happens when I do an XP System Restore).
    Thanks.

I think what needs to be made very clear here is that when a user clicks on "check for updates" the software should bloody well CHECK for updates and most certainly SHOULD NOT proceed to download and apply any updates. this is misleading and intrusive.
I just wanted to check if there was an updated version but I DID NOT want to actually update at that moment. the software downloaded data, costing me money and tried to apply the update which could have potentially messed up my settings if I had not checked everything was ok first.
I actually discovered how to prevent the update by searching through windows and manually deleting the files but why should anyone have to go to such lengths?
the software should simply do as it is asked, not do things that have most certainly not been asked.

  • Trying to use "check for updates"

why when do i click in "check for updates" the itunes said that i'm not connected to the internet or to tr again later .I' using the 6.0.2 , when i used the earlier one was fine.
    TKS DUDU

Who cares if the auto update thing doesn't work? I don't.
Doesn't that update try to auto-start the installation over the internet?
Which is bad Windows business, to begin with. I immediatley turned it off the first time it asked me to update.
I never let anything download automatically without me saying yes or no.
How else can you figure out what might have gone wrong with your PC, if it's doing stuff in the background that hasn't been really acknowledged?

  • Windows Update failed to check for updates with error 0x800B0001

    Hi all,
I have a WSUS installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box, I have a new Windows Server 2012 box (joined to domain) that cannot get updates from the WSUS, whenever I try to search for new updates I receive the following error in event viewer:
Windows Update failed to check for updates with error 0x800B0001
Note: I cannot see the Win2K12 server in the WSUS console under computers node.

I couldn't get it to run even after installing the mentioned KB fixes. So I investigated the error myself, and found a "hack" that seems to fix the issue. Wrote up a small piece on it here:
    http://tplive.azurewebsites.net/2013/12/windows-update-error/
You and about a thousand other people have reported "I had already installed [the update], but installing it AGAIN fixed the problem.", which is almost assuredly a simple indication that the original installation of the update failed, and you simply did
not recognize that the installation of the update was not successful.
The fact that the /selfupdate folder was corrupted (read: missing files) pretty much says it all. There's no bug. Your installation of the update simply failed. (Or, the server wasn't healthy to begin with and you got what you got.)
Bottom line: The only known cause for a client-side 0x800B0001 error code is that the WSUS server has not been
    properly and completely patched.

  • JDev 10.1.2 : Check for Updates

    hi
In "Getting Started With Unit-testing" (*1) dated December 2004, on page 7 I read this:
"When you have an account on OTN, you can plug JUnit easily into JDeveloper from the menu: Help -> Check for Updates -> check the JUnit Extension -> next. It will automatically download the JUnit plug-in files to your [JDeveloper home]\jdev\lib\ext directory (in Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.2 and previous versions)."
If I tried it, I got this: "No updates are available."
Did I do something wrong or are there no updates available?
    thanks
    Jan Vervecken
    (*1) http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/papers/10g/GettingStartedWithUnitTesting.pdf
    related threads I found :
    - "JUnit plugin?"
    JUnit plugin?
    - "JDev 10.1.2 : JUnit extension"
    JDev 10.1.2 : JUnit extension

In 10.1.2 and earlier, check for updates only tracks extensions installed by check for updates. If you install extensions manually, it doesn't know anything about them (in case you're interested, the technical reason for this is that prior to 10.1.3, we did not store sufficient version information and a unique identifier for each extension in the extension manifest, so it was impossible to identify an extension already installed in the product in lib/ext as matching an extension available on the update center.
If you do install an already installed extension via Check for Updates, it's harmless (it will just copy the extension jar back over itself and CfU will "realize" you have it installed).
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Is it possible that an 'check for updates' button can be added under the update tab instead of waiting for Thunderbird to check in the background please?!

I'm not always able to 'catch' the update notification popup when it happens, and I do not wish to allow automatic updates without my approval. I have a rather 'sensitive' internet situation. Would it be possible to add a button under the updates tab to allow us to manually check for updates please? This would greatly help my situation.

Maybe what you called AppMenu is labeled differently as I cannot find that. And yes, the menu bar is visible. And the help menu only lists Help Contents, Troubleshooting Information, What's New, Release Notes, Restart With Add-ons disables, & About Thunderbird.
If I click Tools, then Options, then Advanced I see the Update tab. In this tab is where one should find a button labeled 'check for updates'. I do not see that. My only options are:
    - Automatically Check For Updates
    ---Thunderbird
    ---Installed Add-ons
-When Updates To Thunderbird Are Found
---Ask Me What I Want To Do
---Automatically Download And Install The Update
