Firefox interface is messed up.

Whenever I open Firefox without Safe Mode, it will function for a few seconds, and then stop responding. (NOTE: It does not say "not responding" anywhere; it just appears nonresponsive.)
Whenever a piece of the UI needs to change, (e.g., hovering over a button, typing in a search box, LOADING A WEBPAGE...) the entire area turns black. This includes EVERYTHING within the window's boundary: Title bar, tab thumbnails, the ENTIRE FRAME THAT WEB PAGES LOAD IN; all of it.
Safe Mode is currently the only fix for it, (I haven't Reset it yet;) disabling ALL the addons (including themes) didn't help.

hello james, from your description of the problem i suspect it might be related to hardware acceleration. you could either try updating your graphics driver [http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.36;2.4.1.3.37;2.4.1.3.39;2.4.1.3.38;2.4.1.3.40&lang=us&rev=&ostype=Windows%20XP%20-%20Professional/Home from the amd homepage] (please use the 12.9 beta driver for the moment since 12.8 is also known to cause problems with firefox) - or disable hardware acceleration in firefox/tools > options > advanced > general.

  • My Firefox interface is messed up. When I hover over or click a button it becomes all pixlated, the blocks move around, and lines appear around the buttons.

When I hover over or click a button on the tool bar it becomes messed up. Blocks, or more like pixels, appear over the buttons. They are white and they move around. Little black lines appear around the buttons too. I tried uninstalling and re-downloading Firefox, a full reset, etc. Nothing has worked so far. • Firefox 9 beta messed up my Internet connections, Can't be killed in Taskmanager, can't be uninstalled

I installed the Firefox 9 beta and it messed up my Internet settings so no browsers could connect to the Internet. However, my antivirus program can connect to do updates, and I could still use my FTP functions as well. I am using Windows XP SP3 32 bit, with Gigabyte motherboard with built in Ethernet connection connected to RCA cable modem. As well, if I run Firefox, I can't kill the process in Taskmanager. I cannot uninstall Firefox (the uninstaller just freezes and RevoUninstaller can't remove it either. This is the most trouble I had with any software installation in many years.

Flash should appear as "Shockwave Flash" here:

There have been some compatibility issues between Flash and some Firefox add-ons or settings. Could you see whether anything in this article helps: [[Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox]].
You might also consider disabling the protected mode in Flash 11.3+, since that feature is currently being debugged. Last but not least, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    1. Clear Firefox's Cache
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here (this will log you out)
While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Firefox interface braking/not refreshing

I have had this issue for months now, where Firefox's interface doesn't seem refresh properly.
For example; Sometimes when I close a tab the "tab graphic" will not fully disappear and also the web page won't properly switch to the next tab.
    Here is an example:
    http://s23.postimg.org/bw1tmfb1n/failfox.png
simply minimizing/maximizing the window will fix it, but it's still very annoying because it happens quite frequently.
My Firefox version is completely up to date. I have also done a complete reinstall of Firefox, I have even completely deleted my profile & started a new one.
    Nothing has fixed this issue.
What is going on? Is anyone else getting this problem?

I guess that has left you without an obvious method of changing the pref and getting a runnable Firefox.
There is a file that may be temporarily renamed and it will reset the preferences and hopefully get you back into Firefox. The first step is finding the Firefox profile (and that is easier if Firefox is running)
    # [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data#w_finding-your-profile-without-opening-firefox]]_finding-your-profile-without-opening-firefox
#[[Reset Firefox preferences to troubleshoot and fix problems#w_solution-2-delete-firefox-preference-files]]_solution-2-delete-firefox-preference-files
The second step is to find then rename the file ''prefs.js''
Firefox will recreate a prefs.js with default and computed values, and you should be able to restart it.
You may be able to recreate the ''prefs.js'' file as it was prior to the change, either using Windows to get it back or by carefully removing the single line relating to the changed preference, in the now renamed file and then reusing it.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Prefs.js_file
(An alternative method of flipping the pref back would have been to create and use a user.js file
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file
but the method above is probably easier to get right.)

  • How can I remove Firefox from my desk top (Safari is my main browser) I have a iMac & since I added Firefox, everything is messed up.

    history is sporadic
    many files will not open
tells me server can't be found
one message HTTP status code 13030
    help!
everything was fine with just Safari
(no offense, Firefox is what I use on work computer)

If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple.

  • Firefox 4 has messed up my iGoogle Settings and won't allow it to function. Yet IE 8.6 handles it fine. What is the problem?

Firefox 4 is preventing me from changing/moving/ editing any gadgets I have on my iGoogle page. Several of the gadgets don't show any content or even a title. I checked my iGoogle settings in I.E. and everything works in it. What changed in Firefox 4 that prevents iGoogle from working correctly? My husband who hasnot upgraded to Firefox 4 is not having the same problems with his iGoogle settings which is revealing. I know I am not the only person experiencing this and yet, this idiotic way you are making me jump through hoops to get information claimed this question had not been asked befoe. Come on Mozilla, let's get this fixed. It's been over a week now. I hate using I.E. and much prefer Firefox. Don't drive me and countless others away.

I run Avast! anti-virus. My igoogle homepage listed my gadgets along the left side, but the rest of the screen was just blank white.
I turned off the 'web rep' application from Avast! and the my gadgets were right back where they were supposed to be.
I hope Firefox can clear this up, as I like the 'web rep' option....

  • When I adjust one side of the firefox window, It messes with another side! I Don't want it to do this EVER! How do I stop this?

If I adjust one side of the firefox window to a new size, that is the ONLY thing I want to change! Why does it do this weird stuff I don't want it to do? Older version didn't do this. What's up with that???????

I can't make it happen. I'm trying to think of a convenient way to see what you're seeing without having to record a screencast, but I can't think of one.
Does the same happen in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?

  • Firefox seems to mess around with URLs containing certain non-alphanumeric characters.

When I try to access the URL http://www.the-dma.org/consumers/ [followed by anything - or nothing], I get a screen that says "Firefox can't find the server at www.dmaconsumers.org." - but, as you can see, that isn't the URL I was asking for. If I leave off everything after "the-dma.org", it works.
[Incidentally, in this block of this form, when I highlight text and click on either the '''Bold''' or ''italic'' buttons, it is put in quotes instead.]

Yes, as far as I can tell.

  • Firefox interface lags badly (switching tabs, opening menus) , even in safe mode.

Switching between tabs, playing GIFs, playing YouTube videos, typing text and opening the Firefox menu are sometimes laggy.
For example, sometimes when I click on a tab to view it, there will be a delay of a second before its contents are shown.
I tried Google Chrome and it doesn't have this lag. My computer is pretty powerful.
I tried safe mode, but the problem was present there, too.
I tried clearing the cache, but no luck.
I'm not sure what else to say, so if you would like more information, please just ask! Thank you.

    Hi amacfie,

  • When will the transparent top have a removal option - I won't be using Firefox 4 until I can remove the transparency easily (ie through the main Firefox interface)

I hate the transparent top but like Firefox. I need to know when a proper option is available to reclaim the wasted space above the chrome. By 'proper option' I don't mean going into the file system and manually altering deeply buried files.

  • Updated my firefox and it messed up my emai with knology, what to do?

Among other changes, I can no longer used the advanced version of e-mail, only the simple version. I receive this message when trying to log-in: "Remote XUL-This page uses an unsupported technology that is no longer available by default in Firefox. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem." When we contacted knology, we were told to contact Firefox.

Please try each of the following steps you haven't already taken, until the issue is resolved. After each step, relaunch the App Store and try again.
    1. Follow the instructions in the Apple Support article linked below:
Mac App Store: Cannot update App Store purchases or updates do not seem available
    2. If any App Store purchases were made under a different Apple ID, or if the bundled iLife applications were accepted under a different ID, sign in to the App Store with that ID to update.
    3. Alternatively, delete the probem applications and re-download them with the ID you're using now. If you haven't already purchased them with that ID, you'll have to do that first, because purchases can't be transferred from one account to another.
    4. Select the Purchased tab in the App Store window. If you see an item in the list marked "You have 3 apps to accept," click Accept.
    5. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window may open with a file selected. If it does, delete the selected file. You may be prompted for your login password.
    Then repeat step 4.
    6. Select
    Store ▹ View My Account
from the App Store menu bar, then select View hidden purchases. If you're trying to update any hidden purchases, unhide them.
    7. Launch iTunes and select
    Store ▹ Authorize This Computer
    from the menu bar.
    8. If you've moved any App Store apps out of the applications folder, or into a subfolder, put them back. Never move or copy those applications.
    9. Contact Account and Billing Support on this page:
Apple - Mac App Store - Contact Support

  • Firefox has a messed-up, glitchy, jumbled display.

Within the last week or so, Firefox has been very chaotic and unpredictable. It will load pages that resemble the first couple times you try to boot-up an NES game. I'd attach a screenshot but I don't know how with this submission form so I'll just assume you know what I'm talking about here. This even happens to my toolbars; I have to mouse over something to clear it up, but then it goes right back to hell once I load another page.
Sometimes I'll load another page somehow and the one I was just looking at doesn't go away. I have to scroll or whatever to make it go away.
I'm also having issues, even as I type this, where Firefox has to stop for a few seconds, the little color wheel of death appears, THEN everything I just typed will appear. It did that just as I typed these last two sentences. TWICE.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
