Firefox is acting slowly, ie, it is jerky and unresponsive as I use it.

When I use firefox, it acts in a slowed down manner. For example, pages take longer to load, it takes longer to respond to typing and mouse scrolling, etc.

I bought an iTouch to replace an ailing Palm Pilot. The iT has turned out to be an infinitely more complete and flexible PDA than the Palm. As others have pointed out, the iT's Internet functionality is limited because of the small screen, and watching movies is possible (good headphones help make the image seem larger) but, obviously not ideal. That said, the iT for me is a great tool for keeping tracking things, listening to music, tracking blood sugars (I'm diabetic), etc., and is portable.
I bought an iPad recently for its Internet capabilities, watching movies and as a reader. Larger is better for these functions AND the paper (NY Times) is a much improved experience over the Kindle (yes, I have a Kindle as well). In addition, the controls for navigating, searching, summoning the dictionary, bookmarking and making notes are much less klunky than the Kindle's. The only advantage the Kindle has over the iPad as a reader is its weight and size (I read one-handed, standing up on the train to work in the morning). For a while, I hoped Apple would bring out a 7" version of the iPad, but having lived with the iPad for about a week, I would miss the 9" screen.
For me, there is little overlap between the iTouch and the iPad.

  • I was asked to up grade my Firefox, when I did this the system crashed and I have lost use of my book marks and fire fox, I have not been able to fix it.

Two days ago I logged on to Firefox. I recieved a message that told me that I was using an out dated version. I had to up grade . I followed the instruction and when finished fire fox crashed. I am unable to delete firefox, reload it, or use it. I am forced to use Internet Explorer to use my computer. I have lost my book marked sites, and I am at a loss as how to retrieve what I have lost. I have tried to follow the instructions to fix the problem but I have not been able to fix the problem. I sent the crash information but recieved no responce.

I am puzzled by this. The laptop doesn't need the Apple ID - but iTunes does. I could be missing something but ....
Why would you not be able to use your existing Apple ID and iTunes account on a new laptop? If you authorized the computer - you should be able to use your existing account - unless you already had 5 computers authorized with the existing ID - and that was why iTunes would not accept the ID. However, I'm sure that you would have received a popup message from iTunes telling you that you had reached the limit.
I just received a new MBP and my daughter did as well. My entire family shares an Apple ID and we had no issues at all with my Apple ID and iTunes on our new computers and I did not have to sign up for a new account. Did you even try the old ID?

  • When I open Firefox, it expands to larger than screen-size and I can't use ANY features. How can I fix this?

When I first open Firefox, it appears fine, then one second later it expands so that I cannot see any thing but the current message. The only way I seem to be able to even exit is to use the Windows Task Manager to kill the application. The other user on the same machine does not have this problem. We are both using Firefox version

Which security software (firewall) do you have?
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox doens't show a web address anymore and I can't use the back button (it's not click-able)

The back and forward buttons, the refresh and stop loading buttons are not available for me to click. I can see them, but they are completely gray and I can't click on them. Also, firefox doesn't have a web address in the box anymore. It is always blank, even after I type in a website and it goes there.

  • Firefox loads in the center of my screen and I have to use Ctrl+ to make it bigger so I can read it.

When Firefox loads, or when it changes to a different screen, it is always centered on my monitor with lots of white space on both sides of the content. To make it larger so I can read thescreen, I have to hold the Ctrl key and tap the Plus key (+) several times until the screen is full.
Under Options/Content/Advanced, I have checked the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts..." If I don't check this, then the fonts on the pages overlap each other and I can't read anything.

You can use one of these extensions to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages:
    *Default FullZoom Level: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/
    *NoSquint: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/
It is best to leave the Font settings in "Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced" at the default to avoid problems.

  • The Firefox menu opens on its own when idle and know one is using the computer. Why?

I have three windows 7 x64 computers with Firefox 5 as the default browser. Firefox is always open, and usually the active window. I've noticed with 5 that the Firefox menu will pop open on its own. My computer will have the screen dimmed or blacked-out from the idle timer, then from the corner of my eye I see it activate and and the Firefox menu is open. Since then I've actually seen it open on it's own when I wasn't using the system. Keeps making me think someone has logged into my computer and was doing stuff. And before anyone asks, all AV is up to date and scanned daily, and no has remote access to any of these computers. Thanks.

  • Trackpad Jerky or Unresponsive when waking from sleep

I've been having a problem with my trackpad being extremely jerky and unresponsive when it is waking up from sleep. I am a new mac user and I've only had my macbook pro since christmas and this problem is really getting annoying. Twice, I've had to just push the power button and press enter so my notebook would shut down and I could restart. Any Ideas?

First, when waking from sleep, MBP requires a little to get up to speed as it wakes if properly put to sleep. The MBP does hibernate and write to the hard disc when sleeping and this takes some time as does reading back. The book will be viewable immediately on waking but can seem laggard while fully getting up to speed from hibernation. Do not try to wake the computer until the little wake/sleep light has begun pulsing. Two, if you have a usb connection going or an expresscard inserted ... ensure that it lets the computer wake/sleep properly. Before sleeping the 'book, power off the connected items so that they do not interfere with the process.
What connections do you use? and what processes are going when you attempt to sleep the computer?
Use the Activity Monitor and the Console to check what is happening. Both the Console Log and the System Log in the console can provide you with info regarding your problems. Check the logs and post problematic entries here if you cannot interpret them yourself.

  • Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

I have been a happy user of Firefox for many years. Around last April first I opened Firefox and was offered an update to v 4.42.0.0 which I accepted. Installation seemingly went well. I forget now exactly what happened but the result has been that ever since April 1 I haven’t been able to open the Firefox browser when clicking on the Firefox icon. My computer now was running very slowly. I tried to uninstall Firefox, but a popup told me I couldn’t because Firefox was in use. This confused me because I couldn’t see it being used. Only now I have found that on Task Manager processes that “firefox.exe” was consuming 99 % of the CPU. After removing firefox.exe by clicking End Process my computer ran better. I uninstalled Firefox I had on my computer and installed Firefox 5.0. Unfortunately I have the same problems: Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

Born2die! Brilliant. I am a desktop clicker and never knew Firefox had a safe mode.
    Thank You!
I was unable to start in safe mode initially. The second time I disabled all of the Add-Ons and she started up just fine. I enabled them one by one hoping to track down the culprit but the problem seems to have gone away.
BTW I am running ver. 3.6.8 (in response to cor-el's earlier post) and
Firefox is in the process of downloading 3.6.10 (which I am starting to think may have been what caused this whole problem to begin with)
Incidentally, whats up with all of the Java Console Add Ons?
    I have:
Java Console 6.0.11, Java Console 6.0.13, Java Console 6.0.15
Java Console 6.0.17, Java Console 6.0.20, and Java Console 6.0.21
What are they? Do I need them? Can I uninstall them? Is this due to using Open Office?
Also, .NET Framework 0.0.0 Should I uninstall it?

  • My firefox is acting up... should I put it down?

Alright, as the title implies, my firefox is getting weird. Every few days I have to reload my flash plugins, and it has been running slow. Any ideas on what is happening? How I can fix it, or should I put my firefox to sleep?

i noticed firefox acting strangely also, so exported my bookmarks and now i'm using safari. firefox handles flash poorly it seems. i would just be surfing around (at nytimes or slate.com for instance) and all of a sudden my fans would kick in. i'd open the activity monitor and notice that firefox was taking 70% cpu use, for a freakin' web page, not even video. i tried reinstalling flash but no avail.
    safari seems more stable.
i might try a reinstall and see if that helps it.

  • McAfee Site Advisor add on causes Firefox to operate slowly, wht can be done?

Running Win 8.1 on a new Dell.
McAfee Site advisor is enabled and causes Firefox to run slowly and in fits and starts.
When I disable Mcafee site advisor Firefox runs fine.

    Hi Richard,
Unfortunately, extensions such as Site Advisor are known to slow-down Firefox. Often, poor memory utilization is the cause; this can lead to slow start-up, crashing, and general slowness loading webpages.
In my opinion, Site Advisor is completely unnecessary, as Firefox includes built-in phishing and malware protection already (see [[How does built-in Phishing and Malware Protection work?]])
In addition, some search engines such as duckduckgo.com have an option to enable Web of Trust (mywot.com) ratings alongside search results without the need for additional add-ons. In your case, I think this would be the best option for you.

  • Firefox keeps acting like it crashed everytime I open it.

Every time I start my computer & open Firefox, instead of pulling up my home page, it acts as if it just crashed and brings up the page that shows it crashed/is trying to re-open my previously opened tabs. (Page displays: "Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page." Then it lists all the tabs I had opened the last time I had my computer on). I have deleted Firefox & downloaded a previous version, and that corrected the problem for a few days. Now the same problem is back. How do I fix this?

A possible cause is that you are first closing all Firefox windows and then close the Firefox application.
Some have reported that closing Firefox (Firefox > Quit) while the browser window is still open works for them.
If this still doesn't work properly then you can consider to disable crash recovery, but note that you will lose open tabs in case a real crash occurs.
