My firefox on my lap top (with windows 7) cannot login to my e mail website with a username and password, without first clearing the history ? my other computer has windows xp and it works fine.

I simply reinstalled fire fox 3.6.19 and I can login no problem. Seems like it could be a compatability problem between 5.0 and windows 7. One other thing that happened often was lag while playing mmorpg games. Not sure if this fixed it or not, but I can update this thread when i find out.
Thank you to who ever provided the link to the older fire fox downloads page in another question thread.

  • How do I turn off the window maximizing feature when I click the top window frame?

Clicking on the top window frame causes Firefox to maximize. This is the only program I have that does this, so I am constantly doing this accidentally. It causes me no end of annoyance, having to minimize the Firefox window every time to see the other window I am using at the same time. Is there a way of turning this "feature" off? I have looked through all controls tabs I can find, and the help files on the Firefox website, and can find no answers to this.

Unintended consequences ... my favorite kind! New information - this appears to be a Windows issue - sorry Mozilla. Another app (Word) just started doing the same thing (previously only observed with Firefox). If the app is too close to the top of screen, and you select it, and slightly move it, it maximizes. I heard this is standard in Windows 7, but I am using XP. This is becoming typical of the annoying hubris of Microsoft that will likely make my next OS Linux. I am not blind, and in need of Microsoft making a single window maximally readable, especially at the expense of all the other windows. If I wanted my computer to make all of my decisions for me, I would have stuck with Apple!
Sorry Mozilla help board - I just had to get it off my chest!

When I open FF there is no text displaying(menus, content, etc.), and most of the window is blacked out. For example... I can see the the firefox button on the top left corner, when I go to it the drop down list drops and there is no text, if I move down the drop down I hit where there is a slide out in that drop down and no text is there. So, to start in safe mode you need to go to the firefox button, and click on start in safe mode. I can't See safe mode or click on anything were safe mode should be.

hello, close all firefox windows & hold the shift-key while opening firefox in order to launch it in safemode. in the first dialog just choose "continue in safemode" and go to firefox > options > advanced > general. in there disable hardware acceleration, restart firefox normally again and see if this has changed anything.

  • I do not have the Firefox button in the top left hand corner as shown in the welcome video. This button seems paramount to carry out many of the features. How do I get it?

In the welcome video there is an orange Firefox button in the top left hand corner - I do not have one. This button appears to be central to the use of Firefox.

The Firefox Button acts as an alternative to the regular menubar (File, Edit, View etc.), so if you can see the menu bar you're not missing any functionality.
On Windows XP the default is for the menubar to be shown instead of the Firefox button, but you can switch between the button and the menubar via the View -> Toolbars -> Menu bar option.
With the Button enabled, you can access the regular menubar by pressing the Alt key.

  • How can I move new tabs in Firefox 4 from the top of the screen to their previous position under the links?

With the new version, my tabs for open windows are now displayed at the top of my screen and I find it very inconvenient. When I try to move them down, they are copied instead and then are in two places. How can I set up Firefox to put the tabs in the original (old) position automatically?

Right-click a bit right of the "new tab" button with symbol "+" and uncheck "Tabs on the top" (or something like that, I use another language). That should do it.

  • I do not have the Firefox button at the top of my screen.

I do not have the Firefox button at the top of my screen, so cannot use any of the functions it controls. I do have the round Firefox symbol, but when I either right-click or left-click it, I get only the menu for mazimizing, minimizing or closing the application. I cannot find any information on the Mozuilla website about how to fix this problem, and would appreciate any advice I can get. My operating system is Windows 7 Professional. Thanks.

You probably have your Menu Bar activated. I think you can use one or the other. To activate your Orange Firefox favicon, right-click at the top blank portion of the browser (next to your tabs) and uncheck the Menu Bar option. Hope this helps.

  • I do not appear to have the "main" Firefox tab in the top left corner to enable me to clear history. I have reinstalled FF but it is still not there.

In the Firefox help video they show a Firefox icon in the very top left of the window. This is a drop down tab where one of the items is the clear history option. I do not have this tab and have tried reinstalling Firefox but it is still not there. On the video it is shown above the File / Edit / View etc options.

If you don't have the Firefox button, you're using the classic view. To restore the new view of Firefox (Changed in Version 4):
    * View > Toolbars > Menubar [Uncheck]
In Firefox 6 you can use this to clear your history/other offline content:
Click on the Firefox button on top left part of your browser:
    * History > Clear Recent History
There you can select what you want to clear.
If you want to see the menu bar you can press alt on your keyboard so you can see file/view/...
Also for activating it to always be there follow this (Classic view of Firefox):
    * Firefox > Options > Menu Bar
Don't forget to hit the 'Solved it' button if this solved your problem so the topic will be closed.

  • Firefox is filling the entire screen so that the controls are off the top & bottom of the screen, & I have to log off the computer to get out of Mozilla.

Usually, there are controls at the top & bottom of the screen, & I can log off whatever program I'm in, but now Firefox is filling the whole screen: I can go from one tab to another within Firefox; however, I can't get out of Firefox without logging off the computer.

It is possible that the screen is too high and that the title bar and status bar do not show.
Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.
If that works then close Firefox to save that setting.

  • I have no "Firefox" button at the top of my screen. ???

Ever since I downloaded the new Firefox, I have been frustrated. Now I discover that the reason I can't find my bookmarks is because they are "hidden." Unfortunately, in order to resolve this, I need to begin by clicking on the "Firefox" button at the top of the page. From what I can tell, this is an orange button which should be located at the top, left corner of the screen. I don't have one.
I have re-downloaded the program - nothing; and I am using Windows 7.
    Please help.

If you customized your toolbars in an earlier version, the installer might have left you with the classic menu bar rather than the new abbreviated menus.
To switch, use View menu > Toolbars > Menu Bar
Once you have the orange Firefox button, you can tap the Alt key or press F10 to display the classic menu bar temporarily.

  • When I "restore down" a web page, it doesn´t go half size anymore, it disappears into a small firefox box in the top left hand corner of the screen?

I use windows 7. I normally "restore down" a web page to half it´s size, so that I can see 2 or 3 at a time.
This morning, I did this and the pages started to disappear into a little box under the orange firefox logo in the top left of the screen.
I´m not aware that I have changed anything myself and as I am not very I.T. savvy, I hoped someone could tell me what to do to revert to how things worked before.

Close Firefox (click '''Firefox''' button and click '''Exit''') -> right-click '''Firefox''' shortcut icon and click '''Properties''' -> Shortcut section -> in '''Run: select Normal window''' -> click OK -> left-click empty space on your Desktop and Tap '''F5''' key to '''Refresh'''
    Now Start Firefox
Check and tell if its working.

  • Firefox will not open new windows, opens with session restore every time I use it, and won't let me open the throubleshooting tab... Why?

Whenever I try to open a new window, nothing happens. This includes clicking ctrl+N and through the drop down menu.
Also, whenever I start firefox to browse the internet, it always open with a Session Restore with the previous session listed, even though I closed all the tabs and shut it down normally without any prompts telling me about saving multiple tabs.
Finally, when I tried to troubleshoot this problem, the tab never appeared. The only options that work on the Help Menu are:

  • FIREFOX 26 changed the 'post crash' page with the list of windows and pages. It was a real HTML page with links for each page. Now it isn't (and blows)

    * You changed the page that comes up after a crash - the one which shows the windows and pages that were up before the
    crash.
This used to be a real HTML page and it isn't any more. THis choice was pure isiocy consider how peopel used that page every day (try taking to your users for a change).
The pages listed on that 'post crash page' used to be actual LINKS (you could right click them &
manually open them in another tab - and most peope DID that every day). You could also (and I did this a lot) drag a second
copy of the page, into a new tab (to keep track of all the pages I had not wanted to open)
Now the pages are no longer links. You cannot right-click them.
The thing in the probser is no longer a page that I can drag into a new tab.
Roll the version back and throw this one in the bin...and have a good long talk with your developers about the definition of
    'STUPIDITIY'
Then I try to type anything in the addres bar it is suppose to repoond with the history of old things I have types in the past, or
search for what I type (and in some cases I think it tyes to convert it intoa URL). However it no longer does any of these
things. When I type in the ADDRESS BAR ONLY, I do not get all of my letters to appear. I have to type into a notepad or
into the search and to copy and paste to go to a URL. Nothing that is typed into the address bad responds normally at all
anymore, and I am fairly certain there are no new addons on this machine at all. It does not matter which things I disable. It
still does this. W of course points the finger back at a change to FIREFOX. I wich I could just sitct with one stable release
forever but the MOZILLA folk thing it is best to force peopel awy from a working broswer release to a horrible one (due to it
    being out of date).
FIREFOX 26.0 has 'issues' (ie new *features*/bugs)
    1) History is no longer accurate. My Proof? This machine is the primary one for the entire family (the only PC working). It is
logged in with same user every time and never has its history cleared. It now January 7 so I ought to have a list of all of last
    months browing available to me.
However, according to FIREFOX history, in all of December 2013, the entire family only went to 51 primary URL's. None of
the official TV sites I use to get episodes are listed. None of the official movie sites I use are listed. The primary URL for
ebay is not listed. Only 1 out of our 4 weather sites that I use (at least once a week) are listed. Only 1 of our 3 FINANCE
sites is listed. There ought to be several; hundred root URLs listed.
Please fix history as this change seriously "blows greasy chunks"
PROBLEM (a stupid change in the new FIREFOX version)
FOr a long time, after a crash you got a useful page (a real HTML page) which gave you a list of all of your last sessions
'winwos and tabs' that were open when the browser crashed. there were certain ways of using this page that are no longer
    able to be done.
The old method was wonderful as it had this behavior :
*** The old method for displaying your 'Recovered Tabs' allowed you to :
    a) right click an individual item and open it in a tab without getting rid of that lovely window of your previous session of
    'recovered windows and tabs '.
    2) drag the URL for the entire window of 'recovered windows and tabs ' to a new tab (to make a second copy) so that you
could select just a few of them to open as a group, and stil have the old list handy.
You can no longer do either of these things. The 'recovered windows and tabs ' page no longer has links in it and can no longer be dragged, so you cant select a few of them to use, and keep the rest around for later. NOW - once you choose which pages to open the window is gone forever (can can't get a second copy).
People used to make a copy of the page for later use (with a drag)
we also used to open pages with a right click (which no longer functions
This new method seriously blows big greasy chunks. A parge loss in function has occurred.
Put things back as they were. 26 is full of terrible changes that NOBODY likes. It also has a lot of bugs (history is not reliable at all)

    (1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.
    (2) There are many ways for history to get cleared, both internal to Firefox and external. Could you double-check your Privacy settings?
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Remember History: Firefox shouldn't be clearing history, but an add-on or external software could do it
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Use custom settings for history: inspect the "Clear history when Firefox closes" setting to make Firefox isn't set to clear history. Also check your add-ons and consider external software.
Firefox normally accumulates months of history. However, some of Firefox's database sizes are based on disk space available. If your hard drive is very full, Firefox might reduce the amount of history stored.
