Firefox is automatically opening upon start up

Firefox automatically opening on my MacBook upon start up, just started 7 days ago. Not sure why? I've tried resetting under preferences. That didn't work. I'm not a tech person. But I find it frustrating when this happens.

Sounds like a bit of spyware to me.
I suggest downloading Ccleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download) and running that program. Note this will remove most of your saved usernames/passwords and all of your history/saved offline pages.

If your Mac is running OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Select your user account, then click Login Items.
    Do one of the following:
Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
If you want to remove an automatic startup item,
Select the name of the item you want to  from opening automatically, then click Delete below the list on the right.

How can I get Firefox to automatically open a new search in a new tab please? [Without me manually opening the tab]

For searches from the Search Bar, when you use the Enter key.
Type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and hit Enter. <br />
''If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.''
    Pref = '''browser.search.openintab''' = double-click to toggle to '''true'''

  • How can I disable Firefox from automatically opening on system startup on my Mac - unchecking the "open at login" does not work?

We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. How can we disable? It does NOT show up in our account on the Mac OS as an application that starts at login, so we can't disable it there.

For those of you running Windows, I found this on another site. (Unfortunately, not before getting totally disgusted and switching to chrome.)
    1. click start (or the windows flag button at the bottom left) 2. in the "search programs and files" or the RUN dialog box, enter "msconfig.exe" or "msconfig". 3. That should open the system configuration program. 4. click the "Startup" tab at the top of the opened program. 5. Under the "startup item" column, look for Mozilla firefox. 6. uncheck that one. 7. Click OK or apply. 8. click "exit without restart". 9. you're good to go.

  • I upgrade firefox from 7 to 8 and now when i start firefox everytime it opens "getting start with firefox" page, in options i select the option 'show a blank page" how can i resolve this issue?

i upgrade firefox from version 7 to version 8, now when i start firefox everytime it open self the "getting start with firefox" website, in the options on firefox i select the 'show a blank page' but its not working. i am using firefox on windows XP- SP2.

Try restarting Firefox, the one time page(s) after starting a new release should disappear. Actually this last time with 8.0 they did not come up for me.
If that doesn't work then bring up '''about:config''' and place the url of the page into the filter. Right-click on anything that comes up and use "Reset".

  • Safari Automatically Opens after Starting or Restarting???

Every time I start up or restart my iMac, Safari automatically opens.  It and no other apps were open when I restarted or shut down.  Why would this be happening and how do I stop it?
I looked under System Preferences - Users - Login Items and Safari was not there.  I also right-click on Safari in my dock and the option to "Open at Login" is not checked.  Anywhere else I could look?   It's just annoying..

Thanks for the response, Linc.  I have just a couple things in my Login Items.  Doubt they'd be causing it.

  • Everytime that I open firefox it automatically opens 4 tabs to websites that i visited. I cleared the history several times but the same result. How do I change FF to open only one tab?

When I open and close FF it normally opens one tab but for the past 3 months it automatically opens four tabs. One tab I have set to the yahoo home page. I visit three other sites on a regular basis and I open tabs for each site. This started with FF 4.01. The other sites are Gmail, NYtimes.com, NYpost.com. On the NY post site it opens to an old article from April 3, 2011.

  • How do I configure Firefox to automatically open the latest version of a web site instead of a cache version

I can not work out how to set Firefox to automatically load the latest version of a web site. I have web sites in my bookmarks and it does not look on the internet for the latest version and furthermore using F5 does not work . I need to be able to find a way to have it auto set to look for the latest version live on the internet.

  • How do I stop Firefox from automatically opening on startup since last update on Macintosh running Tiger?

Firefox automatically starts itself on start-up every time. I don't want it to. If I want it on, I'll click on it. I don't go on the internet every single time I start up my computer and don't like having to WAIT for it to start up so I can quit it. I don't know why it does this - never did before - and it is EXTREMELY annoying! HELP! I'm on a Macintosh operating with Tiger OS.

  • How do I prevent firefox from automatically opening the plugin checker page every time I open the browser because it is damned annoying?

I don't like being bothered with pages I am uninterested in opening automatically. It's not a service, it's an annoyance. I want to open my home page, not pages of ANY kind that your browser wishes to open for me. Adblocker doesn't seem to work on this plugin checking page. I do not approve of your browser hijacking my system-I decide what pages get opened, not firefox.

  • Automatically opens upon Logon and after force exit

iTunes and iTunesHelper automatically start upon logon.  I have removed iTuneshelper from Login Items but the entry is always replaced.  I have used force-exit on both iTunes and iTuneshelper only to find both processes running later.  I have uncheck open automatically for all my devices and removed wireless syncing.  Does not matter iTuneshelper and iTunes run throughout the day!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    TIA

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

  • How do I set Firefox to automatically open downloads instead of having to go to my downloads and double click to open?

Whenever I have used Firefox on a PC it at least gave me the option to open certain file types automatically. I download a lot of files and the time adds up when I have to open the downloads box and double click on the file each time.
