Firefox is broken??

When I tried to browse ebay today, Firefox would not display any images at all - all of them had the broken icon. At first I thought it had something to do with ebay and wanted to check these forums, but I had the same problem here: the "search" box is not there, the small (blue) circles to the left of the subject line are not visible (instead, there is typing: "read", "unread", etc). I finally got here with Safari.
I've repaired permissions, run Onyx, trashed the Firefox plist file (org.mozilla.firefox.plist), but nothing helped. I really prefer Firefox - does anyone have any idea what is going on or how I can fix it? Oh, and I just checked - although I opened Firefox after trashing the file, it has not created a new one and all my settings were still intact.

Yes, it is. The odd problem persists today - pages load, links work, but there are no images at all, just broken icons. And everything works just fine with Safari. I found the FF JavaScript Console under tools and have many errors noted; most of them are
"error in parsing value for property ..... (such as "text color", "padding", etc) - declaration dropped" and
"error: unknown property 'text color'. Declaration dropped" and
"error: warning: unrecognized command line flag -psn02621441" and
"error: uncaught exception: permission denied to call method Location.toString"
None of these mean anything to me, but it seems FF is no longer recognizing Java??
I noticed that there is an update (1.5.0.4) to Firefox (I have 1.5.0.1), so I think I will download that and trash the old one; hopefully that'll take care of it!

  • Firefox Safari Broken by 10.5.6? HSBC Facebook + Others not working!

    Hi All,
    This is driving me mad. And I've tried everything I can think of to resolve it. Facebook, hsbc, warehouseexpress and a few other sites that I can't remember at the moment aren't functioning properly on my computer:
    PPC G5, 10.5.6.
    My default browser was Firefox 3.0.7, I've tried safari 3.x, and 4. I've reinstalled 10.5.1 (not a clean install) the websites still didn't work. I've run software update and updated the java, safari and everything else I use. Here are the problems with each of the sites:
    http://www.facebook.com - can log in, but that's it. No other page will open. Eventually firefox just stops loading.
    http://www.hsbc.co.uk - Can't add, cancel or ammend payments or direct debits, or send messages to HSBC. For instance, I click on my messages, click new message, select the account and subject, click continue and nothing happens. Eventually HSBC says: We are unable to deal with your request. Please try again later. (085)
    This is what shows up in the error console in firefox, but i have no idea what it means! Apprarently, no event has been defined, line 11
    "<!--
    function OnClickHandler()
    var agent = navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase();
    if ( (agent.indexOf("msie") == -1) || (agent.indexOf("mac") == -1) )
    var el=null;
    var flag=true;
    el = event.srcElement;
    while (flag && el)
    if (el.tagName == "A")
    flag=false;
    if (el.protocol == "javascript:")
    execScript(unescape(el.href), "javascript");

    else
    el = el.parentElement;
    } // end OnClickHandler()
    document.onclick = OnClickHandler; // set the On click handler for the document

    I know there was an issue with safari, but that's meant to have been resolved now.
    http://www.warehouseexpress.com - Can't sort results by price. Eventually this error appears:
    "Connection Interrupted
    The document contains no data.
    The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again."

    Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it? What did you do if you did? I'd be eternally grateful for any help what so ever!!
    Cheers,
    Chris

    it's happening the same to me, neither firefox nor safari can open much more than the google pages (gmail, google search, blogger).
    I've spent the afternoon talking to the apple support through the phone to finally get to nowhere and having had to reinstall the mac os, then only safari, etc.
    Skype is working too.
    It's not something to do with the internet services because I plugged another computer and it works perfectly ok...

  • "Download firefox" page broken on osx

    Apparently your site can't recognize its own browser -- going to the download page in firefox on mac osx gives me a windows exe (and there's no option to select a download for another platform, which is a huge oversight).
    Not a big deal since it works on chrome/safari, but there's a lot of other sites that seem to have similar issues (misidentified browser, js failing to load for some reason or another, etc –– sites break, and I don't know why). I'm a long time firefox user, but I've started seriously considering switching over to chrome (most of my web dev friends have already, and the stupid ui changes haven't helped).
    Mozilla, please fix your shit.

  • Firefox is broken since last update...any plans on fixing it, or do I go back to using Internet Explorer!!!

    Since the last update, firefox is failing to operate correctly. For example javascript embeded inside of tables fails completely, also more and more web sites are now, no longer accessable with Firefox!

    The details aside suggest you are using Firefox3.6.12 if so that is not secure, it should be Firefox 3.6.27.
    There is a possibility some sites will still expect Firerfox 3.6 but that will not be supported for much longer, the current Release is Firefox 10.0.2

  • Firefox sync broken.

    Hello!
    For a couple of days (or even weeks) now, I'm unable to sync my bookmarks and tabs via Firefox Sync. I even updated all my machines to the latest firefox package.
    about:sync-log gives errors like "Could not authenticate", "NS_ERROR_NET_RESET", "NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE" and others. See the full output..
    Things I tried, but with no luck:
    I deleted/reset my account several times.
    I created a new account with a different e-mail-address.
    I took a password with only alphanumeric characters.
    It worked once even between my laptop and my mobile.
    Firefox Status Page tells my everything is operating normally.
    Any ideas on this?

    From the error message it looks like the certificate is somehow bad. I would recommend blowing away your firefox directory and letting it get recreated. I can't remember if it's .mozilla or .firefox in your home directory and I'm not on a system where I can check at the moment.
    It would also help to know if you're behind a proxy.

  • Firefox has broken Gmail, and now stuck in an endless loop

    Firefox is telling me Gmail is untrusted. Furthermore I click "I Understand the risks' to add an exception and it tells me the Certificate is valid, so I can't add an exception, then it sends me back to the "site is untrusted" page.
    The only thing that's changed is that my laptop just came back from repair (I kept the HD). Everything else is fine.
    I've tried advice in other articles about clearing cache, removing cookies.sqlite and all that to no avail.
    Another thing, possibly related, my ISP has been doing some major repairs on 'International Connections', and the Mozilla also site came up with a Certificate warning as well. It also came up on my phone. Yet, strangely, Gmail works fine on my phone.

  • Completely broken in Ubuntu: can't access profile

    I have a freshly installed Ubuntu 13.04 64bit.
    It came with Firefox 20 which was working fine, but was not the latest version.
    I ran "sudo apt-get install firefox" and it updated firefox to version 24.
    Now Firefox is broken and won't load. It systematically gives the error "Your firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or unaccessible".
    Apparently this is known since may:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1181807
    I can't believe such a huge bug is still unfixed after months.
    What's the workaround?
    How do I fix it and get it to work?
    By the way, on my older computer with Ubuntu 13.04 32bit, I had Firefox 24 and it was working just fine.

    The profile manager doesn't run either. It issues the same error:
    "Your firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or unaccessible".
    Something definetly IS broken if a profile gets corrupted by merely updating firefox. (especially considering the profile was almost untouched: I had only run firefox a couple of times)
    Additionally, the profile manager is almost useless, if it becomes unusable just because one profile is corrupted (even if there was a legitimate reason for the profile being corrupted in the first place).
    Ouch!!!
    Now I HAVE deleted prifiles.ini (fortunately there was nothing important in my profile, as it was a fresh new unused profile, so wiping it out would not be a problem in this case), but it STILL doesn't work.

  • To make firefox handle mms protocol here is a technique that works well. [SOLVED for some versions]

    Okay folks. Mozilla is playing their cards very close to their chest with this one, though I can't understand why all the secrecy.
    <p> '''2012 EDIT''' Since version 7, Firefox appears broken and unable to recognize mms protocol. HOWEVER, if you copy your mms:// URL to a tab in the browser and edit it so that it begins <b>http://</b> instead of <b>mms://</b> then the browser will successfully hand the task onto your audio player, such as mplayer or vlc. So this provides a way to successfully skirt around the problem. There is nothing further in this thread applicable to versions newer than 7, so you can close this tab and go try it. Good luck!</p>
    <p>'''2011: HERE'S THE SOLUTION''' for handling mms protocol for Firefox version 3.6 and versions near that, but not version 7 or later. '''This is Linux specific; I can't help you with Windows solution. Sorry.''' Windows users maybe look here: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Register_protocol#Firefox_3.5_specific__.28works_without_installed_Gnome_libraries.29] or try the Gecko suggestion given by cor-el in a reply in this thread.</p>
    <p>
    <h3>'''Linux Solution'''</h3>
    </p>
    I'm using Firefox 3.6.9 with these plugins:
    mplayer,quicktime,realplayer,shockwave flash,windows media player
    In the firefox address box type this simple but weird-looking URL '''about:config''' and open it. Then right-click on any entry in the long list that comes up. Right-clicking brings up the menu we will use to create a new entry. Select '''new''' and of type '''boolean'''. Carefully type in the name of the new preference as '''network.protocol-handler.expose.mms''' and then select for its value '''false'''. We are finished with this window, so you can close it.
    We now need a page with an mms link to click on. (For this step, it '''''really must''''' be a clickable link. It won't work if you just type the URL yourself.) Here's a page [http://beelinetv.com/] with plenty of mms links including a delightfully-named '''Al Karma'''. Go there now and left-click on '''Al Karma'''. You'll see a window open. Double-click on '''Select an application''' and navigate through your file system to a media player you have installed which will handle mms streams. I have mplayer, and its pathname is /usr/bin/mplayershell. (You might have gxine, or totem, or VLC, or ... etc.) Click the box to '''Remember my choice'''. We're now done. Your new configuration info will get saved when you quit the browser. Now, whenever you click on a mms link, whether it's a movie, or radio or a television channel, the browser should automatically hand the job of playing it to your chosen player. ''Though I found I had to select the player a few times before it eventually remembered; firefox can be a slow learner.'' :(
    If you want your browser to also accommodate rtsp:// links, repeat the above. For handling rtsp audio stream, I use the helix player, through many will use realplayer. Don't forget, you'll need to find a page with a clickable rtsp link to set this up. Or you can create your own link, it doesn't need to have an actual stream. To do this, create a text file, say '''text.html''' containing this line of code:
    <p>
    '''<a href="rtsp://1.1.1.1/">rtsp link</a>'''</p>
    and open it in a new TAB in your browser, using a URL something like: '''file:///path/text.html'''. You should see a link to click on.
    The job is done. You can ignore the remainder of this thread.
    Any problems? Add a message to the end of this thread.
    <hr>
    Note: my solution has nothing to do with the gecko player

    I've added The One Line :) and mms streams are now supported.<br>
    Thank you pawpaw for your effort! Much appreciated.
    The only thing to report is that when I click any mms link, 2 copies of VLC start up (I've associated with /usr/bin/vlc).
    What am I doing wrong?<br>
    Edit: Oh, interesting enough, if instead of clicking the link I open it in a new tab, only 1 copy of VLC starts...

  • Firefox 6 messed up Smarter Mail

    How do I downgrade back to firefox 5- Smarter Mail (my crappy email client) was not ready for the switch to 6 and it has caused all sorts of problems.

    Just download the setup of FF 5.x and install it:

    I had many problems with FF6 and multiple tabs.

  • Firefox 5 is causing my Intel graphics driver (it is up to date) to crash - never had a problem with Firefox 2, 3, or 4.

    Having repeated intel graphics accelerator driver crashes - screen goes black and it recovers - get little error message screen as what happened. Happens frequently. I have done driver scans and everything is up to date. Did not have this problem with firefox 4

    This is my problem too. I saw a post about a computer crash above. I found if I wait (various periods of time) the computer restores and firefox stays broken. Although being impatient, I would reboot the computer anyway.
    I HAVE SWITCHED TO CHROME until this problem is resolved. You can import all your bookmarks and passwords and live happily ever after. When and If this problem is resolved, I may switch back (been loyal for years and years).. if it takes too long, I'll probably just stay with chrome as my new browser.
    I have also seen a similar screen to the "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" that scared me, but it was a graphic driver crash warning (windows 7) nothing more. However I did pee myself a little.
    For a while I thought my graphics card was overheating or something, but found the crashes coincided with firefox boot. That's when I discovered this thread. Thanks folks for posting.

  • Clicking on Add-ons causes firefox to crash?

    New Linux Mint 17 install yesterday. Problem with updates and now Firefox is broken. At first it wouldn't open at all. Did a purge of Firefox and Mozilla then reinstalled Firefox via terminal. Now it will open but when I go to "Add-ons" it just crashes and closes like the "Add-ons" part is not even there?
    Uninstalled Firefox again then reinstalled via Synaptic but it's still doing the same thing
    Please make suggestions simple as I'm not very good with the command line.
    Thanks,

    Can you give me your crash reports?
    #Enter ''about:crashes'' in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
    #Copy the '''5''' most recent Report IDs that start with '''bp-''' and paste them into your response here.

    Overall, Firefox is just amazing. I registered this forum just report a bug about the Back-Button visual issue. The Back-Button in Firefox looks broken visually on start. I am running windows 8 on my computers. Don't know about other OS users, if they are experiencing the same issue or not.
