Firefox is currently my default browser, but my work requires I use another. How can I change the pref?
My work situation requires that I change my default setting so Firefox is not the default browser. Is this possible, via a preferences file, e.g., or do I need to uninstall Firefox (which I want to use for other things)? I have been through every help file available here.

please help :-(That's Activation Lock. You will need to remember the Apple ID and password you used to set up the phone.
If you can't remember them, you can go to iforgot.apple.com to try to recover the information.
If you are the original owner of the phone & have proof of purchase, you can try calling Apple to see if they can assist also.

I'm using a netbook to sync my iphone and ipad. To upgrade to ios 5 it says i need 9 gb of space on my hard drive and i only have 7. I have another drive on my netbook that has 30 gb free. How do i get itunes to backup my ipad to that drive?

Do you mean you browse the FTP server in a tab? That usually works for anonymous FTP downloading, but if your server requires a login, it might not work well because Firefox doesn't do anything special to keep the session alive.
Would you consider using an add-on such as FireFTP? It's a traditional FTP client that runs in a tab.

How can I change the default fill and stroke colors for new shapes?
As you can see in the following screen recording, after I change the stroke and fill color, all my subsequent rectangles are created respecting these new colors. But then when I delete all the rectangles, choose the rectangle shape tool once again, and start creating new rectangles, they start getting created with another color I had used some time ago (and I don't know how did it become the default color).

Thanks.When you have the shape tool selected you will see in the tool bar below - file edit etc a fill and stroke. This is where you can change the colours.
You can keep drawing your shapes like you did in the video but then select the rectangle and change the colour from this tool bar. The reason it changes will be because you changed the colours you were using (foreground / background) that display in the left side tool bar. -

When I opt to "download this as a file" from my email account, Firefox defaults to notepad to open the file. How can I change the default to MS Word?Is FF downloading the file as a .txt file? If so, go to "Folder Options" in the windows control panel. Click on the "File Types" tab. Scroll down until you reach the TXT file extension. Look to see what that extension opens with (lower part of panel). It probably shows notepad. Click on the <Change> button. Scroll down until you find "Microsoft Word." Select it and click the <OK> button. That should show the TXT extension is now associated with Microsoft Word. Click the <Close> button at the bottom of the panel.
If FF is downloading the file as any other type, use the same process as above except look for the corresponding extension instead. If the extension is not listed click on the <New> button and create an association using the extension in the file name and then associate it with MS Word.

How can I change the default pdf reader from the installed (but not yet registered) Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to Adobe Reader XI? I'm having some hiccups getting Adobe to register the software, but since I set it as the default .pdf reader during setup, things try (and fail) to open in the as yet unregistered software. How can I change it temporariiy to the Acrobat Reader XI that I have installed?

I'd opened file with the 'Open with' feature then clicking Adobe Reader,
but that didn't do it. When I used 'Open with', then 'Choose default
program...', it worked like a charm.

Running a version of Linux, the default application for PDF files is "Use Document Viewer (default)", which appears to be /usr/bin/evince. I'd much prefer to use /usr/bin/okular; how can I change the default. This question is NOT about how to change the function that is automatically applied when I access a link, in this case "Preview in Firefox", but rather to the default application that I can select when I download a file being viewed in Firefox's previewer.
This is real progress, a solution to the problem as posted. The command:
xdg-mime default okularApplication_pdf.desktop application/pdf
makes okular the default.
However when I added okular to the choices for applications in:
* Edit>Preferences>Applications>PDF
the popup box that appears when I click Download on the preview page changed. The pulldown menu that appears next to "Open with" used to have 3 entries:

Now it has only 2:

I am relatively new to apple (have an iPad) and having been a PC user for years I was pleasantly surprised with the apple experience and am now trying to work out the best set up for me, my husband and young son as I am buying them both of them apple products this Christmas. New Mac laptop/ ipad for hubby and then an ipod touch for my son oh and a new mac laptop for me. We are also thinking of moving from Blackberries to iPhones. Yes we seem to be hooked! but i am unsure about the home family set up and how to replace my PC network that I run off an 8TB server.
In reading the forums I keep seeing people talk about problems they have with two apple IDs and trying to merge them. I have also heard about a family ID allowing us to share apps legally. I am really nervous of setting us up wrong and then having problems later and hence i am now looking for some advice on how to share as much as we can legally but also make usage practical and not invading each others privacy. thoughts so far:
Music - I think we are happy to share the same music and access using one ID (we currently don't buy much music from apple but have lots of CDs we share).
Photos - It would be nice to share photos - as long as my son or husband cannot accidentally delete photos of mine (which is my biggest concern). I currently load all camera photos onto my 8TB storage box as the network owner and my husband has full access to copy any photo to his laptop but can never delete the original copies by accident.
Apps - If possible i would like us to share these but they are cheap enough these days to separate if really needed. Would be good to share licence for pages etc though
cloud, contacts, facetime, email - this is what is making me consider separate IDs or learning how to have multiple users in one apple ID - I do not want to have to share synced contacts with my husband. I have near 300 contacts now through work etc and he will not want them plus i will not want his or him being able to delete mine by mistake. and then for email and facetime, well I want to give him his privacy so I do not receive his messages etc. especially now that we are considering switching to iPhones
Then last but not least, i don't know the best solution for my son. he is only 7 years old so even though I don't want to pay for things again I don't want him being able to download "just any" app from the purchased icon in Appstore. Also, is there a child friendly setting to prevent him from viewing inappropriate content on the internet?

How can I change the default web form names?
I'm using the web forms in Business Catalyst, but our web site is in Norwegian, so I want the default FirstName and LastName values to be displayed in Norwegian in the error message when the field is not filled out.
At the moment the user will get an error saying "Skriv inn First Name". "Skriv inn" is correctly translated from English to Norwegian, but the value "First Name" has to be changed. The same applies for "Cell Phone Number".
Also, I don't really want two fields for the name, I want the form to have just one field that is called "Name" or "Navn" in Norwegian.
I have tried deleting the name fields and replacing them by custom fields, but then I get an error message when the form is sent saying "ERROR: An error occurred. Your web form must capture customer name and email address. Please fix this issue and re-insert your web form on your web page."
Also, why does some of the "-" before the error have a space, and some not? I want all the errors to be displayed with a space between the dash and the error.
The e-mail error is automatically translated into Norwegian for some reason, but it should be a dash in there, so it says "e-postadresse" and not "epostadresse".
Is there anywhere I can customize these error messages? Or at least change the values of the English fields to Norwegian so the error messages display the Norwegian field names, and not the English?That is very helpful! Thank you!
But how can I change the dashes that are shown before the error? It really annoys me that they are shown inconsistently with different spaces like this:
