Firefox is extremely slow after upgrade to version 12, what to do?

A couple of days ago (30 April 2012) I upgraded to firefox version 12 and since then the browser is e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y slow to load any page.
I have tried reinstalling the upgrade, have restarted the computer, have loaded firefox in safe mode without plug-ins etc, but none of that has made a difference.
Who can advise me what to do to solve this problem? Am working on Windows 7.

as for the latest driver, try downloading the latest ATI driver from this 3rd party website - it shouldn't check for your notebook model and install just fine [http://www.chip.de/downloads/ATI-Catalyst-Mobility-64-Bit_42130502.html] (website is in german)
if this doesn't work, you might also try disabling0 hardware acceleration completely in firefox > options > advanced

For many users, the Folder Action Dispatcher is the culprit that eats almost all available memory if it is enabled on ~/Library/LaunchAgents.

  • IPhoto is extremely slow after upgrading to OSX Maveric

Has anyone noticed that iPhoto is extremely slow after upgrading to OSX Maverick

    I've noticed that it isn't.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • MacBook pro extremely slow after upgrade to Yosemite

after upgrade of MacBook pro to Yosemite everything runs extremely slow. Apps Internet everything. Any fixes for this?  I read email chains back from October.  Anything more current?

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Webtool extremely slow after upgrade to OEL 5.8

Running OSB 10.3.0.2.0 on OEL 5.8 64 bit. The original install was on OEL 5.3, but after upgrading to 5.8 the webtool is very slow on any browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome). Each page load takes about 40-50 seconds. Has anyone else experienced this or is this possibly a known issue?
    Thank you.

I'd suggest you upgrade to OSB10.4.0.1.0 release.
Webtool taking ages is probably related to some other OS issue, check /var/log/messages and whatever and check your DNS settings are all correct.
What about obtool commands, are they also slow?
    Thanks

I just upgrade my iPhone6 to iOS 8.2(apple watch). After the upgrade the phone is lagging and is extremely slow. Just writing a text is a problem waiting in-between inputs.

I have not had a problem with speed. Sometimes a laggy iPhone can be the result of memory fragmentation in RAM (not in storage). It shouldn't happen, because iOS is generally very good about managing memory, but occasionally it needs to be helped. Try the following:
Press HOME once, then double-press it to bring up the Quick Launch screen
Kill each app you see by flicking its screen image up. Continue until all apps except the Home screen are closed
Press HOME once, and wait about 2 minutes for all apps to finish shutting down
Turn the phone off by holding the SLEEP button until Slide to power off appears, and do so
Wait another minute for it to finish the shutdown
Turn the phone back on by holding the SLEEP button until an Apple logo appears.
Let us know if this helps.

After upgrading to Yosemite, i have extremely slow connection on Wifi and also Ethernet connecting to the internet. Had no problems with Mavericks and also my other wifi devices.
Have tried deleting my network configuration and starting again and also have deleted my System Configuration folder with no success
    can anyone help??

  • ACR extremely slow after upgrade from CS4 to CS5

After upgrading Photoshop and Bridge from 4.0 to 5.0 I can no longer edit photos in ACR (plugin v 6.3) because it now takes impractically long to refresh the image after most changes. For example, on the Basic pane if I change a setting such as Exposure, Brightness, etc. with a slider it takes about 5 seconds before I see the change to the image. Since CS4 is still on my computer if I load CS4 Bridge, open the same image in Camera Raw (plugin v 5.5) the same operation refreshes the image in about a half second. If I can't solve this problem I'll have to abandon CS5 and go back to CS4, which would be a shame. Any ideas?  Thank you!

You shouldn't be running version 5.5  of the Camera Raw plug-in in CS4 either.  Update to ACR 5.7 ASAP.
One should ALWAYS run the LATEST release of ACR for your version of Photoshop, no exceptions.  Each new release brings unheralded, unannounced and sometimes even unacknowledged bug fixes and improvements, beyond support for newer cameras.
Staying with an older version just because your camera is already supported by it is a very<euphemism>unwise</euphemism> decision.

  • My iMac is running extremely slow after upgrading to mountain lion

Ever since upgrading my OS, my computer is running extremely slow. Any tips to improve performance?

How much RAM is your system running? Do a Disk Repair and see if that resolves any issues.

  • Mountain lion and time capsule. Extremely slow after upgrade...

After upgrading to the new system, I was trying to copy my iphoto library to my timecapsule, but at this rate, it will be completed within 20 hours... And I´m only transferring 11 gb... I also checked my connection speed to the timecapsule and it´s at 450mb... So, why is it going to take 20 hours??? This is an issue that needs to be adressed... I have the brand new Timecapsule. It´s also not doing a backup while I´m transferring...
Hoping this will be resolved immedately...

I noticed that Time Machine erased all of my previous backups and started fresh.  I woudl be willing to bet that the sluggishness you expereinced was because Time Machine was making a full backup.  It proably became more quick once it finished this since it could perform incremental backups thereafter.

  • Firefox is unbearably slow after updating to version 27

After updating to Firefox 27 all webpages take a few dozen seconds to several minutes to load. When loading a webpage Firefox's status displays "connecting" and the CPU gets maxed out with 95 to 100% of its cycles taking by Firefox.
The computer is older so it is a little slow but Internet Explorer 8 has no trouble opening the webpages and neither do other computers on the LAN so it is not a network issue. I have tried restarting Firefox, disabling add-ons, deleting add-ons, disabling hardware acceleration, restarting the computer, and reinstalling Firefox after wiping every trace of it and its user data from the hard drive and registry.

Rather a long thread so I will add some comments here where easily seen.
    * For general problems please see my post [/questions/985969?page=3#answer-546520] <br /> Updated 30th April 2014 to mention the outstanding known issue (aka the bug with only three votes)
    * Just below that ''jigebren'' has kindly summarised some workarounds at that particular time and the issues found from this thread [/questions/985969?page=3#answer-546599]
    Modified June 18, 2014 6:08:41 AM PDT by John99
    * Workaround, <br /> A chrome hack to disable the throbber may resolve the issue as a workaround allowing pages to load quickly. See my post [/questions/985969?page=4#answer-595327]

I had a very similar issue on a similar computer (Windows XP SP3, Pentium 4 2.4GHz, Nvidia GeForce FX 5500), and it came down that in my case the slowdown was simply introduced by animations (I believe the simple rotating icon on the tab was enough to slow the loading of a webpage).
The CPU used to reach around 100% in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Task_Manager#Performance Kernel mode] (for info this is the red line in the Windows Task Manager. To enable it go to the "Performances" tab then in the "View" menu ensure "Show kernel times" is selected).
To know if you face the same issue:
    * Type "about:support" in the address bar and press Enter.
    * In the "graphics" section check the line with the entry "AzureContentBackend".
    * If the value is "cairo" you may well face the same issue than I did.
In that case I have found a workaround:
    * Type "about:config" in the address bar and press Enter.
    * Search for "gfx.content.azure.backends".
    * The value should be "direct2d,cairo". Edit it to be simply "direct2d" (ie. remove "cairo"), then restart Firefox.
I have already filled a bug report which can be found here:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=973149
Feel free to add feedback if you have the same issue.

  • Office mail merges are extremely slow after upgrade to Exchange 2013

Ever since we migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013 SP1, our employees have reported that mail merges are taking triple the amount of time to send messages. What used to take an hour is now 3 to 4 hours. Some offices are required to send upwards of 6,000
messages at a time. I know Exchange 2013 handles throttling differently than previous versions however the default (global) ThrottlingPolicy was sufficient with our previous 2007 installation. I've never had to deal much with Throttling so I'm not exactly
sure of what settings I should be looking at....also I'm not sure if this would even be related to throttling. Has anyone experienced this issue before with Exchange 2013 and could you provide any recommendations or settings that I need to be focusing on in
relation to Outlook client connections? We are currently using the GlobalThottlingPolicy for all users.

    Hi,
    What’s the version of Office?
The following Outlook client versions are fully supported by Exchange server 2013.
    Outlook 2013
Outlook 2010 SP1 with November 2012 Cumulative Update ( available from
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2687623 )
Outlook 2007 SP3 with November 2012 Cumulative Update ( available from
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2687404 )
I suggest to upgrade one office client to Outlook 2013 (with word 2013) to check this issue.
    Best Regards.

  • MBP extremely slow after upgrading to Lion. Help please.

    Hello,
I'm using a MacBook Pro and just loved it while it was still on Snow Leopard. I upgraded to Lion a month ago and thought the reason for my MBP delay in EVERYTHING was because it was still indexing all the files or getting used to the new OS. However, after a month, when I turn my computer on it takes 5-9 minutes with the loading page of Apple.
It takes another 5-8 minutes for it to normally function after logging in but it isn't consistent though. I really need help over here guys.
My line of work requires a fast notebook and quite honestly, I'm very disappointed with the new os.
    Thank you in advance,
    Yano

If it is a new installation, spotlight can take forever to do the first indexing. I put my Sleep option in Power preferences to "never" (On mains power that is) and leave the computer lid open / on all night.
There are also other things going on, like, software updates,(both from Apple and third party), maintenance scripts (that run on schedule at night), Backup, iDisk and iCloud syncs (the first uploads can be large), etc.
Once the initial cludge is cleared things get much better. But get that RAM upgrade. Crucial delivered mine within 24 hours of ordering
You'll need a very small screwdriver!
