Firefox is hitting my firewall on port 80. What is trying to access the gateway/firewall?

Linux firewall. When I start firefox, I get loc2fw reject logs on port 80. Is this normal behavior? Normally this would be associated with a virus attempting to access a standard router. After a clean system install I still get these hits on my firewall. I did use mozbackup to copy some setting over from another machine.

Your firewall is dropping a SYN packet or is forbidding an HTTP request? If you refuse to make a connection at all, you might never gather enough information to identify the intent of the communication.

  • I was using Internet Explorer but now have disabled it in preference to Firefox. But my Press Reader program by Newspaper Direct will not access the internet and display the paper. Their web site says it works with Firefox

Under connection options in Press Reader I have three options. Use IE proxy settings; don't use proxy; Use custom proxy settings. I have tried all three and still cannot get a direct internet connection with Press Reader. The Press Reader site says it works with Firefox 2 and above. I am using Firefox 5.0. I can still go to my newspaper site and read the paper but I just can do it via Press Reader and therefore I can not download it for later reading.

I notice that the home page redirects to a secure (HTTPS) address. I wonder whether there is a setting blocking this? What if you go directly to a secure page -- will it load?

Your add-ons list shows AVG, ZoneAlarm, and McAfee products. Could one of them be blocking this site? See whether you can add exceptions or just disable them temporarily and test whether that helps.

  • I used to have an RSS feed to a blog site which is protected by a username and password rembered by Firefox. I am now asked for those details when trying to enter the blog and despite entering them correctly I am denied entry.

My old server (5.5. years) was failing me and loosing some random items. I have accessed this blog site for the past three years and during that period the access passwords and user names have been changed several times. Each time I asked Firefox to remember the correct details and I gained entry with no problems. Before I replaced the equipment I was continually refused entry despite entering all the correct information. I received a message telling me that I was either not entering the correct information (which according to the Blog editor I was) or that my server did not know how to connect to the RSS feed.

Try BottomFeeder for those live feeds.

  • Uninstalled Firefox. Want to reinstall and no matter what I do, keep getting the must reboot to complete uninstall

I bought a laptop from a friend. It is running windows7. He had firefox on it but uninstalled it and cleared his hard drive before he sold it to me. Its a new laptop but he went mac so I picked it up. No problems with it at all works great. Ran every possible scan. Used ASO, Revo uninstaller, EVERYTHING!!! No leftover files found. Still wont let me install Firefox. Keeps saying must reboot to finnish uninstall first.

If your friend "cleared his hard drive" by formatting/repartitioning and reinstalling Windows, there should be no trace of Firefox remaining. I'm guessing he did less than that but in any case, you could try one of the "clean reinstall" methods given here:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall
If that doesn't help, what is the exact error message and window title you get after attempting to install Firefox?

Everything on my Acer Aspire One Netbook (with a Limpus Light OS (Linux)) works fine except for a few weeks ago Firefox stopped opening up the browser window. I know my internet connection is fine because I can access my email through the netbook's email interface. Also, I've received messages indicating it couldn't open Firefox because Firefox was already running and I needed to shut down the one running first.

hello scoop, since these symptoms can sometimes be caused by malware active on a system, please first run a scan with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes], [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner] & [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx microsoft safety scanner].

  • Why does Firefox (3.6.12) try to access the Net as it starts, but before the Ffx window first shows & once more when the window opens, if I've set updates to manual and "about:blank" as my home page?

I click to load Firefox (3.6.12). The Comodo firewall warns me that Firefox is trying to connect to the Net. I block it, because I've not asked Firefox to do that, at that point. Then, when the Firefox window opens, the firewall warns me, again, that Firefox is trying to access the internet. I block it then, too. Use of Firefox is completely uncompromised by me doing this - that much is clear.
Surely, if I have turned off automatic updates and use "about:blank" as my browser startup page, Firefox has no need, and no place, attempting to connect to the internet until I ask it to, by clicking a bookmark in the Bookmarks toolbar, or until I type a URL into the address bar.
What is Firefox trying to do? and how can I stop it from trying to do it?

  • All ports open, but still no luck over the internet

I have ARD 3.1, the computer I am trying to connect to has client 3.1. Both computers are on DSL connections behind routers with the software and hardware firewalls turned OFF (temporarily for testing!). Port forwarding is on, and is pointing to the correct local NAT ip.
Yet, whilst ARD is correctly giving me the DNS name when I tap in the IP, it wont recognise any recognisable ARD clients the other end, let alone actually connect to anything.
Any ideas beyond "your firewall isnt off, or port forwarding isnt set up correctly"?
    Thanks

I always use this handy web page to tell me if ports are open, this must be done on the machine that is running the service, ie the remote machine-
    http://canyouseeme.org/
Enter port 5900 and click check, this will tell you if port 5900 (ARD) can be seen by web page
If it comes back with an error then there is a problem with either your config or your ISP has blocked that port.
    Have you tried ssh access?
It runs on port 22 and is a good way to tell if you have various settings correct. Open port 22 to remote machine and in terminal type -
    ssh -l username xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Change username to valid user on remote machine and the xxx should be the IP of the router of the dns name.

  • I haven't been able to access the internet using Firefox for over a week. What is causing this? Is there an issue with Firefox?

I can't access the internet using Firefox. My internet connection is working perfectly fine as I can access the internet using internet explorer. I don't feel safe using internet explorer and prefer Firefox. Please help!

See --> [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Cannot%20connect%20after%20upgrading%20Firefox Cannot connect after upgrading Firefox]
Your firewall may not recognize the new version of Firefox; it is just doing its job. You may need to remove references to Firefox from your firewall's allowed applications list, then try to go to any website, let your firewall detect the new version of Firefox, and give Firefox the permissions needed by your firewall to access the internet.

  • Port forwarding for clientless SSL VPN access

    Hello,
I am currently trying to set up clientless SSL VPN access for some remote sites that our company does business with. Since their machines are not owned by my company, we don't want to install/support a VPN client. Therefore, SSL is a great option.
However, I'm running into an issue. I'm trying to set up port forwarding for a few remote servers. These remote servers are different and have distinct IP addresses. They are attempting to connect with two different servers here.
But my issue is that both servers are trying to use the same TCP port. The ASDM is not letting me use two different port forwarding rules for the same TCP port. The rules can exist side-by-side, but they cannot be used at the same time.
Why? It's not trying to access the same TCP port on a server when it's already in use. Is there anyway I can get around this?
If this doesn't make sense, please let me know and I'll do my best to explain it better.

    Hi Caleb,
if you mean clientless webvpn port-forwarding lists, then you should be able to get your requirments. even the same port of the same server can be mapped to different ports bound to the loopback IP.
    CLI:
    ciscoasa(config) webvpn
    ciscoasa(config-webvpn)# port-forward PF 2323 192.168.1.100 23
    ciscoasa(config-webvpn)# port-forward PF 2300 192.168.1.200 23
then you apply the port-forwarder list under a group-policy
    Hope this helps
