Firefox is ignoring the Applications Options

In Tools > Options > Applications i have set Firefox to open Adobe Acrobat Document application/pdf files in "Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)".
However, when i open a pdf it opens it in the browser in Foxit Reader.
If i then disable the Foxit Reader plugin to force it to open in Adobe Acrobat (Reader) it then opens a download window and opens in Adobe Reader externally even thouh I have the setting within Adobe Reader to open documents within the browser

  • Would it be too much to ask for Firefox to ignore the "www" when sorting history by site?

Like it says in the topic question. Would it be too much to ask for Firefox to ignore the "www" when sorting history by site? IE ignores the "www", but not Firefox. It's a real pain to have to look in two places rather than one for a site I previously visited.
Other than that my migration to FF has been great.

Hi, as far as I can infer, that term means it's not loading any resources until needed, opposite of this...
    -bind_at_load
Sets a bit in the mach header of the resulting binary which tells dyld to bind all symbols                when the binary is loaded, rather than lazily.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/ld.1.html
    Load resources lazily.
You should never load a resource file until it is actually needed. Prefetching resource files may seem like a way to save time, but this practice actually slows down your app right away. In addition, if you end up not using the resource, loading it wastes memory for no good purpose.

And, higher OS versionsare even worse with Bonjour/mDNSResponder, but might see this...

  • Why "Drag the Firefox Icon into the Applications folder" always pops up?

i follow the steps shown to install firefox on mac. Firefox is working well except every time when i lauch it, "Drag the Firefox Icon into the Applications folder" always pops up? Can you help me solve the problem?
    Thank you!

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • TF.exe info returns "Ignoring the /collection option"

I am running tf.exe info $/TeamProject/Dev /collection:http://tfs.server.com:8080/tfs/collection. I am using this in a batch file to determine whether a team project has a Dev folder at all. Based on that, I know what security to apply to the project. When
I run the command line directly in an administrative cmd window, I get the same warning as when the script is run in an Admin prompt:
    "Ignoring the /collection option"
I believe this is why the result of the command line is always:
    "No items match $/TeamProject/Dev"
It does not matter whether I point it at a project that has the specified folder or not. I cannot find a single reference on the web to this warning. My question is... Why the heck is it ignoring the /collection switch? The help returns:
    tf info [/recursive] itemspec [/version:versionspec]
                  [/workspace:workspacename] [/login:username,[password]]
                  [/collection:TeamProjectCollectionUrl]
/collection url is valid. I can copy the url I am providing in the command line into a browser and TFS opens as expected. I would appreciate any assistance.

Very sorry to have stayed away from this post so long. It is not an issue with the tool rather the way I was using it. It seems that the TF command line reads the file system location from which it is executed to determine the appropriate workspace if a
workspace is not specified. I was running it from an unmapped file system location. When I added the workspace parameter, it worked fine.
I was executing this command line from an unmapped location:
    tf info $/[Team Project]/dev /collection:http://[Server Name]:8080/tfs/[Collection Name]
I got: Ignoring the /collection option.
When I ran this command line from the same location:
    tf info $/[Team Project]/dev /workspace:"[Workspace Name];[Workspace Account]" /collection:http://[Server Name]:8080/tfs/[Collection Name]
    I got:

  • How to change podcast settings in the Application options dialog

I have attempted to subscribe to an RSS feed for a podcast - URL is http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/kingsmill/rss/podcast.xml
I am being prompted to join using live bookmarks. As i use Google reader, there is no option available to change it to google. Hitting the dropdown arrow, my choices are live bookmarks or Microsoft Outlook - or browse for application. How do i change / remove the applications entry for RSS so i can start over and select Google as a default
The Options / Application / Podcast - has the RSS logo - says "preview in firefox"

Apple does not make what you are asking straightforward for a reason: the user usually sets the system language to the one they prefer anyway.
If you think you have a good reason for setting the language in the application itself, I would suggest using the pathForResource:ofType:inDirectory:forLocalization: method of the main bundle to get the applicable strings file and then deserialize it into a dictionary as if it were a plist (strings files actually are).

  • Why does Firefox 18 ignore the specified character encoding for websites?

We are developing a page on our website that will have the page crawled and a newsletter generated and sent out to a mailing list. Many email packages default to character encoding of iso-8859-1 so we have set our character encoding to this on the page via the standard meta tag.
We have a problem on the newsletters that we had until now been unsuccessful to replicate. Though now I know why.... I have just discovered that in Firefox 18, the specified character encoding is being completely ignored. It is rendering the page in UTF-8 even though we specified ISO-8859-1. Firefox 3.6 however, renders the page with the proper encoding (thank god for keeping an old version for testing).
Can anyone explain why the new Firefox is completely ignoring the meta tag? Both browsers are using the factory default (I even opened FF18 in safe mode)...

Thanks for letting me know that Firefox 18 ignores everything but the server headers... but it doesn't help me much. Our website is in UFT-8... but this page is a newsletter, one that is crawled and saved into an email and sent out to a mailing list (by a third party newsletter program) and many email readers use ISO-8859-1 hence why we want to have the page rendered in that encoding so that we can actually test the newsletter properly. We can't test through the third party software as our testing environment is behind a firewall, and you can't change the server headers for a single page... hence the meta tag.
If you explicitly choose to render a page in a specific encoding, that shouldn't be ignored by the browser. It's not a big deal, but now every time we make a code change in our test environment and reload the page we have to force the encoding manually in the browser which is a pain.
The problem is, the newsletter is already live and we have some users complaining because some characters aren't displaying properly in their email packages (Entourage for Mac is one of them), all our testing (which is encoding using UTF-8) looks fine.

  • On my mac, I'm not prompted to drag the firefox icon into the applications folder on the dock. It seems to be in limbo. What do I do?

  • Firefox 32 - Download file to external application fails to open the application. Only works if app is used within Firefox as in Acrobat reader.

Some of my users have started using Firefox 32 and discovered that files on the websites (pdf, xls, doc, etc) will not open fully if the application option is set to a windows application such as Acrobat Viewer, Microsoft Excel, Word, etc. The Download manager shows them listed and "hung" up. The file is downloaded to a temp location but the file is never opened and presented to the user. If the pdf option is set to open within Firefox using the built in Acrobat viewer, that will open within the browser.
This did not happen with version 31 and installing this on a sandbox desktop reproduced the problem.
We are running Windows 7 operating systems. Need help to solve this. Anybody?

hello warnerm, this is a bug in the latest 32 beta 9 version which will be addressed in the release candidate 1 build which should be deployed via auto-updates to beta users tomorrow.
a workaround for the moment would be to enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), right-click somewhere on the page and create a new string setting with the name '''browser.safebrowsing.appRepURL''' and value '''https://sb-ssl.google<i></i>.com/safebrowsing/clientreport/download?key=%GOOGLE_API_KEY%'''
for reference see [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1057764 bug #1057764] (please don't post in bug reports, but vote for the bug if you want to see it fixed)

  • Just installed Firefox 7.0.1 on a Mac running OSX 10.6.8 - the installation Disc icon remians on the desktop and each time I launch, Firefox opens a window asking me to drag the Firefox icon to my Applications folder. How do I get this to go away?

I have installed the application to my applications folder and everything else is working perfectly. But normally, after you've installed a browser, the istallation disk icon that appears on your desktop can be ejected or deleted without detriment. Mine keeps coming back...

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.<br />
Open the DMG file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.<br />
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

  • What happened? After this morning Firefox's update, I couldn't get into Firefox but got this message, "The application failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

This morning I went to go into Firefox, a message came up stating it was updating. After the update, Firefox didn't open, so I clicked on the icon and got this message. C:\Program Files (x86) Mozilla Fire\firefox.exe. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. I tried removing & re-installing and I even try the Window's restoration point of a couple days back and I still get the message. Has anyone had or have this problem?

You can click the link in my above post if you haven't done that yet.

That SxS error seems to be caused by a corrupted Visual C installation that requires some DLL files to be reinstalled.

  • I cannot get my update to work at all . The firefox app icon and arrow pointing to the Applications file appears on my desktop again and again. I keep putting in the folder but it refuses to work. I have Mac OSX 10.6.8

I downloaded the update file and moved in to the Applications folder as asked , it is there as an alias . There is a new icon on my desktop . I cannot move to the dock however . I click on both this icon and the one in apps and it keeps giving me my original box with Firefox icon, arrow and apps folder. I am going round and round and getting no where!

  • I've been a Firefox user for years but I can't complete new Firefox download. The actual download goes well, but then I'm told to move Firefox icon into applications folder when prompted, but I don't get prompted.

I've been a Firefox user for years, but now you offer me a new version and I can't complete the installation process. The initial download goes well but then I'm instructed to move the icon into my applications folder when prompted and I don't get prompted. Nothing whatever happens. What am I doing wrong?

We are not around here 24 hours, so you may need to wait for a response.
The DMG (disk image) file is the Firefox installation file that you can download from the Mozilla site and save to your desktop. You can double click that file to open the image.
    From [[Installing Firefox on Mac]]:
    * Once the download has completed, the disk image may open by itself and mount a new volume which contains the Firefox application. If you do not see the new volume, double-click the Firefox dmg icon to open it.
    * A Finder window appears, containing the Firefox application. Drag the Firefox Icon into the Applications folder.

  • How do I stop the "drag firefox into the applications folder" dialog box from opening every time I open Firefox on my iMac?

When I installed Firefox on my iMac, a dialog box appeared telling me to drag the Firefox logo into the Applications folder, which I did.
