Firefox is not installing

i am currently using firefox3.6 and i wanted to upgrade my browser to firefox8. I downloaded the setup from the official website but when i open the setup it asks me "run as" in which i know you have to be the administrator to run it. Since i am the only user of this Laptop and obviously the admin too. I select the current user option and when i click ok the window closes and after that nothing happens. I have tried several times but still its the same. I also went with the admin option and wrote my user name with password but still nothing happens. neither it denies or tells me that it's incorrect nor the installation occurs. plz help.

Just tell me how to uninstall this garbage

The statement above is in the pop up error box every time, when I launch Firefox. If I click ok in the box Firefox then opens. How do I fix this initializing/launch problem?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.<br />
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")<br />

  • Firefox will not install. I keep getting a message that I have to restart my computer in order for updates to a previous version can be installed.

Every time I restart the computer and try to install firefox the same message keeps appearing. I attempted to uninstall the earlier version of firefox using "programs and features" in windows but the same message came up and thus I was unable to uninstall using that method. I have used a third party uninstall program which appeared to delete all traces of firefox including registry entries but I still have the same problem.

  • Firefox could not install the search plugin from "chrome://tnt2toolbar/content/yos.xml" because an engine with the same name already exists.

each time I open Fire Fox I get this error "Firefox could not install the search plugin from "chrome://tnt2toolbar/content/yos.xml" because an engine with the same name already exists." and
I can't search for anything. HELP!!!
    Thanks

That is a problem with an extension that tries to install a search bar. The tnt2toolbar should give you a clue about which extension. You didn't add troubleshooting information with the list of installed extensions, so I can't give a suggestion about which extension is causing this.

  • How would I transfer bookmarks on my computer, from firefox 3.6.10, to firefox 4 (not installed yet) on the same computer?

How would I transfer bookmarks from my computer, from firefox 3.6.1, to firefox 4 (not installed yet) on the same computer, without losing any of the bookmarks?

If you want to make sure to have your bookmarks in FF4. You can always backup your bookmarks on your PC and import it into FF4 later:
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Export as HTML
and save it anywhere in your PC.

Well that is the message i get. I can still use firefox(version3.6.8)

You get that error if an extension is using an old and no longer supported method to install a plugin.
Which plugin are you trying to install?

  • Firefox does not install in the APPs folder

I have received new MacBookPro days ago. As I start installing additional softwares including firefox (2.0.0.4 and 2.0.0.5) that I downloaded as a dmg file, I fond that firefox does not install in the Applications folder. When I click dmg file, it expands and attach to the /Volumes with icons on the desktop.
It is annoying as it is not easy to find out where the program is. Is there anything I did wrong?
On my old MacBook it installed in the Applications folder and I was put it in the dock..
    Any help will be appreciated.

You should have a window entitled Firefox on the desktop as well as the drive icon. If the window is not showing double click on the drive icon and it will appear.
In the window on the left is the colorful Firefox icon with Firefox.app written underneath - click on and drag into your Application folder. Thats it.
Clear the drive icon as normal

  • Firefox will not install addons

After getting a new computer and installing Firefox 12 on it, Firefox will not install addons. The only way that I can get it to install anything is by downloading the .xpi file and manually installing it. Unfortunately, I cannot download the .xpi file to one of the addons that I need to do my work, so this is a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • I installed the latest version AND the beta and with both I have the same problem: After I install, they both work the way they should. When I turn off my computer and get back on later, Firefox is NOT "installed", according to my computer.

''locking as a duplicate of this - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/791340''
I installed the latest version first. When I was done, Firefox was working great. I got off and went back on to my computer later. Firefox was not there, but the shortcut was. I got this error that the item that referred to the shortcut was no longer there. I uninstalled. I tried the beta (4) and the same exact issue occured.

    ryansaint11,
this isn’t Apple support; this is a user-to-user forum. We’re just fellow users of Apple products here.
If you want to boot from your SSD, then you should put the SSD where your HDD currently is, and put the HDD into the optical bay. (That setup will also get you the best performance.) At the moment, you’re still booting from your HDD. Note that you will need to format your SSD in Disk Utility [with the “Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)” format] so that you can install OS X onto it.
Since you have an Early 2011 model, it might or might not have originally come with grey installation DVDs. You will be able to find out whether it did or not by trying to use OS X Internet Recovery to install OS X onto your SSD. If it does not work, or if the installed OS turns out to be Snow Leopard, then it will have originally come with the DVDs, and you should purchase a replacement pair of DVDs from Apple or iFixit; those discs will have your MacBook Pro’s Apple Hardware Test and its iLife apps. If the installed OS turns out to be Lion, then it will not originally have come with the grey installation DVDs, and your Apple Hardware Test will be installed along with Lion, and your iLife apps will be downloadable from the Mac App Store.

  • Firefox will not install on XP, hangs after extract, setup.exe at 100% of CPU

Did full FF unistall, ran CCleaner, cleaned registry of any mention of FF or Mozilla, rebooted. Downloaded FF 21, 22 and 24, all have same problem: Install extracts all the files to C:\Temp\7Z..., then runs setup.exe, but setup.exe consumes 95+ of CPU for an hour, but does not install anything. Tried in Win XP Pro SP3 Safe Mode, same issue. Machine runs OK otherwise, can use other browsers w/o problem. If I kill the FF setup.exe, machine returns to normal w/o reboot. C: drive has ample space.
Also tried killing all unneeded services and programs before running install, but that does not help.
(It is not the machine from which I am writing this message, so the Automatically Add does not apply.)
    Real puzzler!

?? How would you know that the machine had any plugins at all? FF was completely unisntalled and there is no pluginreg.dat file, no profiles, nichts.

  • Firefox will not install on my laptop

The latest update to Firefox (33) did not work. After download it froze up with a partial black screen. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox several times with the same result. Symantec possible issue has been eliminated. My laptop runs windows 7 enterprise. Until now, Firefox has always worked for me. Its Google Chrome for now.

Other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem.

  • Firefox will not install on my computer. It was previously running. Then just stopped. I uninstalled and tried reintalling and it looks as though it is installing then does not complete.

Ran multiple anti-virus/malware to rule out. Everything is good. Registry error perhaps. Pleas Help. Maxthon browser sucks.

The Installation File is downloaded. UAC is disable. I am running AVG Interner Security 2011. I disable all security and When I open the instalation file, it says extracting, and the staus bar goes to 95%. I then get the circular waiting icon, then nothing. I can see 3 Firefox related files in the Processes of the Task Manager.
    Firefox Setup 1476K
    setup.exe 2840K Firefox Installer
    setup.exe 2864K Firefox Installer
This is not a result of trying to open the installer multiple times. Each time I end the processes before trying again.
    I sincerely appreciate the help.

  • When I run the installation utility nothing happens. I can save the file to the desktop or run it directly within another browser but Firefox does not install--the wizard never even initiates.

Earlier this week Firefox 4.0 crashed. Unsure what happened I elected to reinstall. I downloaded a fresh copy of Firefox from the website and reinstalled. That was a disaster. Firefox was running about 1/20th the speed of Explorer.
Figuring I had some residual problem from the crash I performed a full uninstall, eliminating all personal data and customization, to again install. I have now downloaded the installation utility eight times and not one has worked. Once the program finishes extracting it closes. The installation wizard never launches. I have tried both saving to my local disk and running from within the browser and I get the same result.

Firefox is only a browser; it doesn't have the ability to install third party apps other than those specifically written for it like plugins and extensions.
So after you choose "Save file", click the "Downloads" button in the toolbar and then right click the downloaded file and choose "Open Containing Folder", or "Open File Location" to take you to the folder where it can be found. See screenshot for an example of what the Download button looks like.
From there, double click it to start the installation.
To update Firefox, click Help | Check For Updates in the version you're running right now. The upgrade will subsequently take place automatically.
N.B. If the file you downloaded didn't come from a bona fide source, always right click it and choose to scan it with your anti-virus app first before you run (double click) it. That way, you avoid installing malware which piggybacks onto another app.

  • I think I, by mistake, hit never alow when firefox was trying to load someting, now firefox will not install. what can I do?

Firefox needs to update. When I try to install the bar just keeps going and going for hours. I think a plug in or something that I did not recognize wanted access and for the first time I hit never allow. I have tried to disable my McAfee firewall and that did not help. Is there anything that I can do at this time to install update?

If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.<br />
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
