Firefox is not saving my passwords.

I have followed the instructions in the article titled "Usernames and passwords are not saved" but Firefox is not saving my passwords. What am I doing wrong? I am running Windows 8.1.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
*Deselect: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"
Details like websites remembering you (log you in automatically) are stored in a cookie.
*Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
*Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

• Firefox is not saving the password for my spam website.

This all started when I was browsing through my options and looked at my Saved Passwords. There were two entries for my spam e-mail website. I deleted one of them. Later, when I had to view spam, Firefox no longer remember my password. When I checked the Saved Passwords again, I went with Show Passwords, that area was blank for my spam website. So I deleted that entry also.
At this point, Firefox should have asked me if I wanted to save my password the next time I logged into my spam site, but it doesn't do that. I have added several new passwords to new sites, and Firefox saved them correctly, this website included.
Oh yeah, I'm currently using Firefox 7.0.1

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.

• Firefox is not saving my passwords, and I have checked all settings! HELP!

I have checked all my settings, and I still have to put in my password every time I log into sites. Anyone know why it's doing this? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
If the latter happens then you have a problem with cookies that are not kept or the file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Make sure that you aren't blocking cookies.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

• Firefox is not saving history even with remember history preference turned on.

Firefox is not saving history even with remember history preference turned on. I have tried reinstalling Firefox but this has not solved the issue. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

* Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the Browsing History.
* Make sure that the History is set to at least 1 day: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: "Remember visited pages for at least"
* Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode (Tools > Stop Private Browsing is grayed, see Private Browsing)
* To see History and Cookie settings in Firefox > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history"
You can look at these prefs on the about:config page to make sure that you keep history.

• Firefox 26 not saving logins OR passwords after clicking "Remember me"?

Problem:
Began having this issue about a month ago, after altering some Google privacy settings. I then went on a rampage of cookie deleting and disabled all third party cookies... and managed, somehow, to disable Firefox's ability to remember /any/ website's "remember me".
I constantly have to log in to every account each time I exit the webpage, even after clicking the remember me box.
Passwords and login info are still stored; they auto-fill when I click on the fill-in bars; but accounts refuse to stay logged-in.
Additional info:
After toying around with the google settings, that didn't fix things.
Re-enabling third party cookies didn't fix things.
Privacy/Security Add Ons include: Ghostery 5.1, Adblock Plus 2.4.1, WOT
Changing security settings in the Options -> Firefox Privacy didn't fix things.
Resetting Firefox didn't fix things.
"Remember form & search history" is on.
Everything in privacy is currently checked EXCEPT "Use private browsing".
Using Firefox 26.

Soniahryn wrote:

Then you have a problem with cookies.
Soniahryn wrote:
Everything in privacy is currently checked EXCEPT "Use private browsing".
Click the Exceptions button and delete any unwanted entries. Block exceptions will prevent cookies from the respective domain from being saved altogether, while Allow for Session exceptions will delete cookies from the respective domain once Firefox is closed.
If you don't have any cookie exceptions, does the problem go away if you disable all your add-ons in the Add-ons Manager, Extensions category and restart Firefox? If yes, then see
* Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
If the problem persists with all extensions disabled, try the following.
# Under Options - Privacy, set Firefox will: Remember history.
# Open your profile folder.
# Exit Firefox.
# Delete the cookies.sqlite file and if found, also cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal. Note that this will discard any saved cookies you may have.

• Firefox will not save my passwords

Firefox will not save my usernames and passwords. When I enter a password on a site FF will ask me if it wants to remember it. I always click "Remember Password". When I go to options>security>saved passwords it's always a blank field and I have no sites listed under exceptions.

I'm having a problem where Windows Live login won't remember both of my ID's. In FF 3.6, I used to be able to click in the empty username field and select which ID I wanted to use but since upgrading to FF 4.0, I can no longer do this.
I don't want it to remember passwords, just usernames....help pls.

• Mail not saving my passwords

My mail program has stopped saving my passwords so I must reenter them everytime I check my mail. When I type the password in under my account preferences is disappears when I go out of that window. I have searched support and tried fixing with all their suggestions with no success. I assume I must either reinstall keychain or mail. If so, how do I do that? I don't want to reinstall system software if I don't need to. Help!
It is working fine on my G5.

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the keychain.
If that doesn’t work, try removing the password entries from the keychain and letting Mail create them again the next time it asks for them.
If the problem persists, try resetting the keychain:
1. In Keychain Access > Preferences > General, click Reset My Keychain and proceed as requested. A new (empty) login keychain should be created and the old one renamed and removed from the keychain list, but not deleted.
2. You can add the old (renamed) keychain (stored in ~/Library/Keychains/) back to the keychain list by clicking the [+] button in Edit > Keychain List.
3. Depending on what the problem with the old keychain was, you may be able to move/copy password entries from the old keychain to the new one if you wish.

• Firefox is not saving my preferences.

I read in Mozilla's knowledge base to check the pref.js file to make sure it wasn't a read only file.
I did that and it is not a read only file. In addition, I have pref files 1 through 88. i.e. prefs-1, prefs-2 ..........prefs-88. Is this suppose to be? The 88 files are dated 05/09/13 to 05/22/14.
What else could be the problem that my preferences are not saved?

There shouldn't be any numbered prefs-##.js files or other files numbered in this way.
The presence of numbered files indicates that there was a problem with renaming the numbered temp file to the original prefs.js file, possibly caused by security software blocking this file.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

• Even though I repeatedly tell firefox to not store a password, every sign it asks me again

Thank you both for the clarification.  I used to use Outlook Express for mail email when I had win XP.  I now have Win 7 and there isn't an email client,so I now use webmail.  Outlook remembered both id and password and I thought webmail did the same.
Of course there is a Microsoft email client for Windows 7. It is called Windows Live Mail. It is similar to Outlook Express in many ways, different in others, but performs the same functions, and includes a built-in calendar. There are mail clients from other sources that will run on Windows 7 too.
Go to the Start button and click on it, click on All Programs, scroll down to the Windows Live folder, click on it, and you will find a way to download any or all of the Windows Live components, including Windows Live Mail.
If you still have access to your OE, you can migrate the folders and  Address Book from OE to Windows Live Mail. The account definitions in Windows Live Mail are almost identical to the definitions in OE so the accounts are easy to set up.
Here is a link to the Windows Live page on Microsoft's website: http://download.live.com/
Hope this helps.

• IChat not saving AIM password

I love the new iChat but it refuses to save my AIM password, any suggestions?
Thank You Much
Richard Brown

Hi,
When you opened IChat for the First time were those Start up Screens where you entered your details ?
If so did you add the Password then ?
Ifyou did not then the Password is not saved to the Keychain (and iChat cannot access it)
When you open iChat it will prompt you for the password in a separate window (this may or may not have a option to Save the password.)
If the pop up window does offer to Save the Password but does not then check you have Read and Write access to the Keychain  (Home Folder/Library/Keychains )
(Do a Get Info on the File from the Finder's File Menu and check the bottom panel then edit if required)
If not, delete the account in iChat Preferences > Accounts and re-add it.
