Firefox is not storing passwords

Using a PC with XP.
I intalled Firefox 4.01 having first removed Firefox 3.
I used an add-on the transfer passwords backed up from 3 to 4.
Most passwords were copied over but some were not.
My problem is that although I have the option "Remember passwords for sites" ticked. This does not happen.
When I enter username and password for a new site, Firefox does not offer to store the password and the password in not recorded.
I do have the add-on Better Privacy 1.50 installed. I tried disabling this but it made not difference.
If all else fails, is there a way of adding username/password manually?

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode.
* You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
* To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
* Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
* Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

• Anyone know why, firefox does not remember password for a site when you remove password from the view password site? I removed a pasword in the view password window and now it not asking me to remember and also it is not remembering the password when I go

Anyone know why, firefox does not remember password for a site when you remove password from the view password site? I removed a password for a site that was not remembering the correct password for the "view password" window and now it does not guess the password and does not remember the password for that site. All other sites are being remembered.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== After I deleted the password from the view password window.

The saved password feature worked well, but the site I had saved the password for required that I change the password. I have found no way to update the password in Firefox. After I deleted the saved password, Firefox did not ask if I wanted the new password saved. When this happened before, I removed and re-installed Firefox, and then it worked. I hope there is another way to update a password.

• Firefox will not remember passwords even tho the box is checked and there are no exceptions listed. The little bar asking to save passwords doesn't even come up.

After an online session, Firefox (6.0.1) crashed and a crash report was sent. After that, Firefox would not start and the crash window kept coming up. I uninstalled it and did a new install. It works fine now except it will not remember passwords even tho the box to save is checked and there are no exceptions listed. The bar asking to save does not come up.

• Firefox Home not syncing passwords

I've installed Firefox Sync on my home desktop and Firefox Home on my iPod Touch.
Selected "sync everything" and now on my iPod I have all my bookmarks and tabs correctly synced.
However when I go to a bookmark which on my desktop automatically remembers the username/password, on the iPod the page loads but none of the password fields have been automatically entered.
Obviously something isn't syncing correctly, but the help system offers no advice on how to solve the problem.
I've tried refreshing everything, closing and opening the app (on desktop and iPod) but still no success.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry, the current version of Firefox Home for iPhone/iPod does not sync passwords. It only syncs tabs, bookmarks, and history.
You can sync passwords in Firefox on your Mac, Windows, and Linux computers, and in Firefox for Maemo and Android phones.

• Firefox will NOT remember passwords although I've checked the "Remember Passwords for Sites" option.

The question is just as I posed it - Firefox forgets to keep the passwords for sites, even after I'm prompted to do so each time a site is opened.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?

• Firefox is not remembering passwords under OS X Lion

I did a clean install of Lion and then Firefox 5.
Firefox doesn't retain log-in credentials for any sites, despite "remember passwords" being activated and cookies being allowed. I have it set up the same way as my SnowLeopard system, which remembers credentials fine.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.

• With Mac OS 10.6.8 and Firefox 7.0.1, firefox is not remembering passwords nor is firefox asking to remember passswords?

Firefox does remember passwords for some sites but not others. Some of the others have been previously remembered but with different user names and passwords.
The problem started with changes in the user name and password, or with changes in the login URL.

Thanks for your second reply. The problem is apparently in the Firefox software, since it occurs with all Mac users even though their personal information is different. In other words, the problem follows the website.
I have been unable to find a systematic way to duplicate the problem. It initially occurred while I was changing user names and passwords. I didn't want to update some of the changes in the "saved passwords". My recollection is that I ignored the "Remember password" prompt. URL's were changed. The "Remember password" prompt no longer appeared, and did not reappear when returning the the web sign-in page.
For those web pages, there is no "Remember password" prompt. However, those pages are not included as exceptions to the "Remember passwords for sites" exceptions. Similarly, the sites do not appear in the saved passwords.
I have read the recommended reading; none seem to apply. For one of the sites, I was able to produce a pull down list for user name. However, the Shift + Delete action produced no change.

• Firefox sync not importing password on my new installed firefox

i just installed new firefox deleting all preferences and settings.. i set up firefox syn successfully and got all history, last visited sites and etc successfully but... My passwords and ids are not there.. like when i visit gmail or facebook or any site it doesn't show any user id nor any password for it.. i checked settings in firefox option can checked all items tick marked bookmarks, password, history etc.. and my quota for password is 58.3 KB.. What should i do now??

jscher2000 asked:"Could you clarify something for me: when you say you have a problem loading a new tab, is it the standard new tab page with 9 thumbnails for your frequently visited sites, or do you mean opening a link in a new tab?"
I have Firefox setup to open a link that I click on in an email or on a site into a new tab, and this is the new tab I am writing about. When I click on the link in the email or on a site, there is a delay and I get the dreaded "not responding" message. After a wait, finally I get to the site. And, which just happened, when I went from writing here and clicked on the tab to go back to my Yahoo email, I received the "not responding" message.
I have also used the additional malware checking programs that are listed on the Firefox site in additional to Norton. Malwarebytes found 14 issues, which it took care of, but I still have the "not responding" problem. I even did the long version of their scan which did not find anything additional. I used the Microsoft Safety Scanner also. This program did not find anything.
I mentioned above that I was getting the "not responding" message just going from here back to my email, but this last time I did that I did not get the "not responding" issue and was able to go back and forth normally.
Everything you asked me to check looks normal. I just wish Firefox would work properly 98% of the time and some this "not responding" nonsense.
I also do a program called Lumosity. This program will not work correctly when Firefox decides to not respond. Fortunately, this does not happen all of the time, but then it should not happen at all.
I wonder the Firefox is meant to work with a Win8.1 touchscreen computer.
I really do appreciate all of your help. Maybe we will get to the bottom of this some day.

• Safari is not storing passwords for certain webpages

Hi,
I am wondering why Safari won't store the login/passw for certain webpages in my keychain. It is not asking if I want to save it.
Even if I make the entry in the keychain all Safari does is to ask for the keychain password when I enter the webpage, but won't fill in the login/passw.
Any ideas?
Regards
M.

I have been told that some websites block the password storing function - for example, banks and credit card sites. It is a protection for their customers. At any rate, none of my financial sites allow automatic password fill-in.
Those are the only types of sites where I have had that happen. Is that the type of site you are having trouble with?

• My new computer with the newest firefox in not remebering passwords?

I have a new Dell 8300 desktop and installed the new Firefox. It is not prompting me to or remembering passwords. I have it set to remember passwords but it doesn't work.

I was in private mode.
I had switched to "Never Remember History" when I first went through it
I will launch Firefox again and see if I am still in private mode.
I think I had to open it up and accept cookies and just let Kaspersky and IObit sweeper keep the system clean.
I don't remember seeing those settings. Maybe they were not available because of the Never Remember, of maybe I just missed it.
Thanks for the help!
My computer is asking me to remember the password of this site!
Thanks. GC
