Firefox is not supported on the architecture (mac g5, os 10.5.8

I downloaded and installed Firefox 4 this afternoon. When I tried to open it I got an error message, "You can't open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture.
I have a Mac PowerPC G5 running OS 10.5.8
I should add the the Firefox icon in the install window has the "Do not enter" icon superimposed over it''''''bold text''''''

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • "You can't open the application "Flash" because it is not support on the architecture"

Looking for some help with this.
I recently had a system corruption on the MAC machine here in my office.
The user was suppose to save his work to the servers which they didn't.
The users that was using the Mac ended up losing all there data as the hard drive failed.
As a precaution I decided when I was rebuilding the MAC to replace the dead 250MB hard drive with 2x1TB hard drives.
I would then create a RAID1 (Mirror) with the two hard drive so if a single drive fails the users can continue to work without interruptions or losing any work.
Mac installation went without an issues. Then the Adobe installation appears to go okay, however as I was double-checking the installs for the Flash and Indesign programs were grayed out wiht that no smoking sign symbol on them. When attempting to run the programs all I recieved was the following Error:
"You can't open the application "Adobe InDesign CS4" because it is not support on the architecture"
    or
"You can't open the application "Flash" because it is not support on the architecture"
All other programs for the CS4 open and run without any issues.  The CDs I have are for a multi-user license.
    System spec are:
    Model Name:                             Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:                      MacPro3,1
      Processor Name:                      Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:                      2.8 GHz
      Number Of Processors:            2
      Total Number Of Cores:          8
L2 Cache (per processor):        12 MB
      Memory:                                  8 GB
      Bus Speed:                               1.6 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:                 MP31.006C.B05
      SMC Version:                          1.25f4
    Does anyone have a solution?

The usual reason for that error is that the application isn't installed. As for why they didn't install, that I can't tell you.

  • My Mac X10.5.8 PCG5. Can't open Firefox 4 'not supported on this architecture' why not?

When I tried to open Firefox 4 a dialogue box opened stating "Can't open the application Firefox because it is not supported on this architecture"

    For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4.0, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />

  • Trying to update to 4.0 and being told that Firefox is not supported in this architecture?

Running 10.5.8 on my Powerbook G4 and trying to update to 4.0 and when I click on the Firefox folder that downloaded to my desktop to initiate the update the is a white circle with line thru it and say that I can't open the application Firefox because it is not supported in this architecture. I have been running the other versions of Firefox without issue.

  • Firefox won't open: "Firefox isn't supported by this architecture" (Mac)

I had Firefox installed for several years, but it couldn't be updated: in 'preferences' the 'automatic update Firefox'-zone was grey (not active). So I decided to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it again after having downloaded the 6.0 version. Over the Ff-logo is a 'forbidden'-symbol and when I try to launch it, I get the above message (not supported by this architecture).
I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 on my iMac

OS X 10.5.* requires an Intel chip, if you don't have that, then it is not supported, and you would need to go back 3.6.21
For those that really need an earlier version of Firefox, find your system and the Firefox version you want in releases, download and start the install.
    * ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/
:or with the latest of version 3
    * http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older.html
: Note Mac OS X 10.4 user, and Mac OS X 10.5 users without Intel cannot upgrade to Firefox 6.
When reinstalling Firefox from a download, Firefox must be down once the installation starts. When the installation finishes, don't let the install start firefox for you. Instead end the install and start Firefox in your normal manner, thus preventing creating a new profile which does not have your bookmarks cookies, etc (but your old profile would still be around and would).

  • I am using Dragon for Mac and it is not supported under the current Mac OS?

I have been using Dragon for Mac for some time.  But it no longer works because Dragon for Mac is not supported on the new OS.  How do I use Dragon for Mac on the current version?

I bought the Mac Dictate program Version 3 latest one out there at Best Buy. Bless their hearts they tried for 6 hours at no charge to me to make it work. They gave me my money back. It continued to crash.
This is what I learned in 6 hours.
In answer to your question it is not supported even on the OS X Version 10.9.1
    Message read
    Incompatible Software
The following software was found during upgrade and is incompatiblewith this version of OS X. It has been been moved to the incompatible with this version of OS X
It's a 50/50 chance it will work. I will tell you what my issues were
1.Even if you update your Mac's version it will not work
2.Nuance Mac Dictate staff patronize you and tell you it's Apples system fault, They don't return your phone calls.( I spoke to a Patrick who wanted me to send him a screen shot of the the crash then said,
To save an apple system profiler report
    3.WAIT
I just discovered that of you go to System Preferances and check Use Enhanced Dictation . To start dictation press your fn function key twice and you are recording. OMG! I opened WORD into a  blank page  tried it and it works! Also It's free on Mac.

  • My Mac with OS 10.5.8 says I cannot open Firefox because it is not supported on this architecture. I tried to update my version, and this is all I get now. What can I do to use Firefox again? Thank you.

My computer is not allowing me to utilize any version of Firefox, after multiple downloading attempts. I simply get a message that Firefox is not supported on this architecture, and the Firefox icon in my toolbar now has a circle on it with a line through it (Canceled). I hope that someone can explain what I need to do to be able to use Firefox once again. Thank you, TC

As you have a PPC or Power Mac the last release form Mozilla to work on PPC is Firefox 3.6.*
Firefox 3.6.23 can be found at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Since you have a PPC Mac there is this third-party option for Firefox 7.0.1 at
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
As of Firefox 4.0, a '''Intel''' Mac with OSX 10.5+ is required for Firefox builds from Mozilla. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0.1/system-requirements/

  • Firefox 4 won't open because it says it is not supported by the current architecture. Now I cannot use Firefox at all.

I followed the advice and instructions to download Firefox 4 and once I moved it to the applications folder, a slash went through the icon and now it tells me that I cannot open Firefox because it is not supported by the architecture. Don't know what to do next.

I suspect you need more expert help but here are a few things you can try.
If you can't open Firefox(double click on Firefox desktop icon) try Safe Mode - Hold down the Shift Key as you double click on the icon>don't check anything on the page that opens>continue. If Firefox opens and works in this safe mode go to Add-ons> Extensions and look for "Ask". Then look at Add-ons >Plug-ins and again look for "Ask" . Remove, delete, disable any Asks. If you do remove any, close Firefox. And try again in Normal Mode.
The Ask website has detailed instructions for removal but you need to find it on your computer and have your computer in working order.
If there is no sign of Ask and Firefox is working well in Safe Mode you should work your way through this -
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20extensions%20and%20themes
Eventually you might need to grapple with About:Config and even your Windows Registry but I would recommend a complete uninstall and re-install before that. Unfortunately that often doesn't work.
That all sounds very daunting but taken step-by-step you might get lucky early.

  • My iMac G5 with OSX 10.5.8 says Firefox 4 is not supported by the archetecture. Solution?

Downloaded Firefox 4, replacing older edition, which worked well. Icon of new version came up with circle with slash on it, and when I attempted to open the new Firefox, the Mac said it was not supported by the architecture.
What's the problem and solution? Will it not work with G5 models?

Use Tony's suggestion. I am running it right now and it is awesome. I love Mozilla but they basically screwed all of those older Macs over. Come on Mozilla. These Macs still work, and there are plenty of people with them out there.

  • Can't open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported by this architecture. I'm using mac os 10.5.8

Been using Firefox (many years) version 3.16.. Received invitation to download Firefox version 4 for Mac this morning and did so (regretably losing 3.16 version) because now the new version 4 won't open. I just keep getting the error message "You can't open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported by this architecture." I'm using the latest Mac OS 10.5.8. The processor is 1.8 GHz Power PC G5.
I trashed the first download and downloaded a 2nd Firefox version 4 and had the same results.

"You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture."

Thanks for the link to the system requirements, edmeister. However, my system appears to fit every requirements listed, but still gives the same error message.
Here is what my system profiler tells me about my Imac:
    Mac OS X v. 10.5.8
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, which Wikipedia tells me is "x86" processor
    3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    My Activity Monitor says:
1.87 GB of my system memory free
303 GB of hard disk space free
Is there some explanation why I am being told Firefox 4 is not being supported on this architecture?
