Firefox is now just like IE - it sucks the life out of my computer

I've updated everything. Extensions addons cleaned my computer - everything. And firefox is as fat and bloated as IE or worse it seems. Takes forever to respond. Take forever to close a tab. Takes forever to switch to other apps. It's just plain horrible. Isn't there a 'light' version without all the extra bloat that will work? Is there an older version I can load that's reliable?

Firefox has always come up with improvements to reduce the bloating memory it consumes, make it more secure and embed new features.
To make Firefox use less memory, just check out this [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/High%20memory%20usage?s=Firefox+memory Article].

  • Do media cards suck the life out of your battery?

I just inserted a media card to my bb curve last night, and my battery was dead this morning when I woke up (it was next to fully charged last night). Anyone know if the media card sucks battery life? I'm pretty sure all the applications were closed. And, I don't think the phone shut down when scheduled either, so I'm wondering if something is running in the background now. Any advice would be appreciated.

No, a media card won't do that, in itself.
However--inserting a media card does cause the device to scan, index and create cache files, and thumbnails of the files and images on a media card, still not enough to drain a battery.
It is very likely only coincidental, and you probably did have something running in the background like an open active browser page or application.

  • DRM "Sucking the life" out of your batter

?I saw this article on Endgadget about test that show how strong DRM significantly using more power on mp3 devices and thought ya'll might find it of interest. http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/6/is...ur-mp3-player/?"tests conducted by CNET, strong DRM "not only slows down an MP3 player but also sucks the very life out of them." CNET found that the extra processing power required to check licenses and decode protected tracks could cut battery life by as much as 25%. In tests conducted on a Creative Zen Vision M"

    Trey69,
The problem I have with their "testing" is that they compared DRM protected WMA tracks with MP3 encoded tracks. That is two entirely different formats with different processing needs. How does that equate to DRM causing the lowered battery life.
A valid test would change one variable. DRM. Thus, test battery life between DRM protected WMA's and non-DRM protected WMA's.
    Daniel
That is certainly true. However, the basic point of the article is that WMA copy-protected tracks (which are played by everyone who use on-line music services or who download music from many of the on-line stores) cause much lower battery life than what is advertised by the device manufacturers. Yes, it doesn't parse out how much is due to WMA and how much is due to the copy protection, but it is certainly useful information to know when reading battery-life specs. As I noted above, one of the more common subjects on this thread have to do with the difference between advertised battery life and actual battery life.

    Where is the bookmarks stored?
I Install the Firefox once again since I upgrade my computer.
And I try to move the bookmarks from the old computer to the new one.
But I can't find anyone of them.
Is there any folder just like "favourite" to store the html file?
I really want to find out the bookmarks because actually i can't remember all the website that are important to me~ URGENT!!!~THANKS~

You can move file named places.sqlite from your old profile to the new one. It contains bookmarks and browsing history.
Here's a knowledge base article about it: [[Recovering important data from an old profile]]
If you don't care about saving your current bookmarks, you can skip creating new profile (Firefox does it by itself at first run anyway).
I'd might suggest you to install addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2410/|Xmarks Bookmark and Password Sync]. It is a free web service which synchronizes bookmarks and (optionally) passwords with central server, and then to other computers, if you installed it on more. You may treat is as a backup too.

To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

When closing Firefox windows, I would like a warning before the last window closes. The about:config settings do nothing. There is a warning for multiple tabs... why not for the last window? I do not use tabs... just windows... I have a mouse button programmed for that. It is really irritating to have to restart Firefox all the time and then open the history window because no warning was issued!

This is ridiculous. I've had this problems for years now and I'm finally walking away from Firefox. I use my keyboards more than my mouse, and how many times does your finger slip and hit Command Q instead of W. How come FF can't reset something as trivial as this? So many people are having problems with this?
Feels like FF has become too big, too slow and just not cooperative anymore. What a shame, I've been using Netscape/Firefox for 13 years. This is silly.

I assume that you don't have the installation discs, so:
    1. Reboot
    2. Hold command + s key down after you hear the chime.
    3. When you get a text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
    (Type these commands very carefully)
    mount -uw /
    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    shutdown -h now
    4. You will go through the setup process again, create a new admin account, login to it and then change your existing account password or whatever else you need to do. You can delete the account you made in this process, or not.

    G’day
I’d just like to observe that the syntax colour-coding is still quite flaky, even after the recent updater.  It seems more often than not I have to reclick on a line I have typed to get it to colour properly.  It also seems like this occurs mostly on longer lines of code... the colouring will be fine out to a certain point, then the text just stays black until one clicks on it.
Is anyone else seeing this?  I presume so because I’m at a new job with a new computer, so this is the fourth computer I’ve had which has had this issue  (that’s fourth out of four... all of them that I’ve tried on).
This latest PC is running Win Vista Business Ed, 64-bit (so that makes the list of OSes I’m seeing this on: WinXP pro 32-bit, Win Vista Home 64-bit, Win Vista Bus 64-bit, Win7 Starter 32-bit).  Stand-alone install of CFB.

I'm getting the same problem. In fact, I'm noticing that syntax highlighting is very, very slow after update 1. In larger files, I sometimes have to wait about a second or two after making a single small change while the editor refreshes itself. I've had to restart CFB after the editor gets too slow to work with. It seems like it gets worse the longer eclipse stays open, and the more editing you do.

Since i changed to Firefox 4, now i can no longer view the lower portion of my screen which reveals the LOCK security feature. Please advise how to fix this? if I don't hear back today, i will have to undo Firefox 4 completely

the lock symbol has been removed in Firefox 4 and replaced with the [[Site Identity button]]
You can get the padlock back by installing this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/padlock-icon/?src=discovery-learnmore

  • I am a gambler in the UK and have just downloaded firefox 4; now I am unable to use the live betting on site Sporting Index which is perfectly legal in the UK. I was also able to obtail this site with my previous edition of firefox??

I bet in the uk with sporting index as I live in the uk.
I often look at their live betting prices of firefox.
Now I have downloaded firefox 4 it won't let me do this anymore so I would like to stop version 4 and go back to the old version which allowed me access to the live betting prices on Sporting Index

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Just updated to Firefox 29, now I have this thing at the top that says "Google Sharing Disabled." What is that?

When I click on it, it says "Google Sharing Enabled." What does this mean? Can I leave it disabled but get rid of that button/bar? There's no real trouble. I'm just curious about this, and also it's a little annoying.

This sounds like a problem with the GoogleSharing extension that shows in the System Details List.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
