Firefox is often "unresponsive";what is 'unresponsive script?why is firefox so SLOW in response to my site requests?

A friend installed Mozilla Firefox for me about 3 months ago to replace Kaspersky which always slowed my computer responses. Now Firefox is slow at responding to looking for my e-mail, at searching for info, and often the message"NOT RESPONDING" following Mozilla Firefox and nothing happens for several minutes. Also, "Unresponsive Script" comes up with the option to cancel or continue--what is "Script" and "WHY"? I have Windows 7 and anE-Machines modem. Also, I am told often that my Anti-Virus is out-of-date even tho' I have it set to update daily at 11:00 pm and I am sure to have the computer ON from 11 to 12 PM each night. How do I fix this? I am a computer 'dummie' and don't understand all the terms and phrases used, but I try. Please help.
Thanks,
Pierre Pawlak

Unfortunately Firefox 6 is not as good as it should be.
I recommend you to use latest version of Firefox 3.6.x ,cause it's long release but fire fox 4 , 5 and 6 are short releases and not as good as they should be.

Hi, I have HTC Legend on Android 2.2. I just can't download Firefox on my phone, because after scanning the QR code and clicking on the link "download for Android" there appears a "Not found" mistake window which informs me that requested file has not been found. What should I do to get Firefox mobile on my phone? Thanks in advance.

So its really useful that you guys do NOT mention this in the linked sys req page:http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/mobile/platforms/
but in the deep in the system hidden wiki page. Please change that! So much people try to download FF mobile beta and have no clue why they cant even download it.

  • I have IE & Firefox on both my laptop and desktop. Why is Firefox so much slower than IE7? Firefox seems to take forever to load pages!

I have a HP laptop & Dell desktop with IE7 and Firefox. I use Firefox more as I like it better than IE, yet the pages in Firefox load so slow. I thought the new version of Firefox was so much faster, but it seems to drag along and take forever to load pages. Why is this??

  • Html. script.inf some firefox exe what is this and how to get rid off

when i click a genuine site, avast blocks this with html.script.inf.
when i browse the firefox history, the exact site is not known, but the message ends in firefox.exe, which is shown as script.inf. I am using the latest firefox with all necessary updates.
I have written to avast and to the site, excelforum and awaiting replies.
What that firefox exe means? what is that script. How to stop this. When i browse, firefox alerts, if i want to leave that page, and sometimes, a script is being written, do you want to continue or stop. Why this behaviour

nobody even see the post , i suppose, why c:program files\Mozilla firefox\firefox.exe is shown as html.script.inf file in the picture

  • Unresponsive Script message in Firefox

I keep getting this pop-up warning box "Unresponsive script: chrome://ytoolbar/content/utils.js:60" when ever I open any page on Firefox. The page will not load until I press "stop script". This is really slowing things down on the internet. I tried the Firefox site, but didn't find anything for Macs. I could go back to using Safari, but don't like it as well and all my bookmarks are in Firefox.
    Please help!

The FF Mozilla help page really scared me with this step in the precess:
<In the Location bar, type about:config and press EnterReturn.
    * The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page. >
I did take everyone advice and carefully checked my add-ons and extensions especially Google ones, and Guess what? One of them actually warned that it was not compatible with the latest FF I had just downloaded.
Thanks once again for great help when I panic.

  • What does "unresponsive script" warning mean?

what does "unresponsive script" warning mean?

I'm having the same problem with Firefox 19 on both OS X and Windows 7. It seems to be tied to Facebook (which I have as a pinned tab). I don't have to force quit though - just hit the 'stop script' button and things proceed as usual.
I've a bug report into Firefox - if you don't have Facebook open in a tab, I don't know why you're getting the same error message.

Update: Just received a reply - I'll give it a shot:
"Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

  • Completed all Troubleshooting steps but continue to get slow downs from unresponsive scripts on Firefox. Is there a way to use my browser w/out slow downs?

    Mac OSX.
I've gone through the list of troubleshooting tips for slow downs and for unresponsive scripts. I continue to get slow downs to my computer and browser when I use my Firefox. It is becoming so bad that sometimes I cannot get work done.

And now, I think I've identified part of the issue. When you pin tabs as an app tab, this slows down Firefox in all the ways I mentioned. Please, please Firefox, if you are going to offer such a useful and simple thing, make sure that it works...
Having closed these App Tabs, I had a temporary break from the slow downs... Then after another few minutes, the slow downs in Firefox continued... At my wits end.

  • I am getting this unresponsive script message when googling and its causing firefox to freeze "chrome:/wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:854" - Any advice?

When I try an google certain web sites including "NFL" firefox freezes and I get the unresponsive script chrome:/wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:854". I uninstalled Google Chrome but still have the same problem.

Thanks to philipp: I disabled the avast addon (from) when I updated to avast 9.0.2008, and the unresponsive script has stopped freezing firefox during google searches.
PS, I added this addon in it's place, Trustwave SecureBrowsing: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/m86security-secure-browsing/eula/224305?src=search
It's not too bad, and seems to be more thorough than the avast addon.
I also use the web of trust (WOT) addon.

  • Firefox can't play Boost Mobile ringtones without a supposed "ActiveX" script, what kind of script do I need?

When I go to the Boost Mobile website and try to listen to ringtones there it directs me to a website to download a type of ActiveX script/plugin for Firefox. Well, the latest version is for Firefox 1.5, which is long gone. I'm not sure what kind of script or plugin I need to play these ringtones. Can anyone help direct me in the right direction? I have the most updated version of Firefox and I am using Windows Vista.

Firefox has not used ActiveX in a very long time. See: [[ActiveX]]
You can try using this add-ons and it will use the IE you have installed on your system to execute ActiveX in that special tab:

  • Shockware flash is unresponsive and I cannot play videos on firefox..Please help???

I have a constant problem with shockwave. I have shockwave flash 15 plug in installed and am using FF 33.0.2
I constantly get a message that shockwave flash maybe busy or may have become unresponsive. It completely freezes up my Firefox. So I cannot watch any videos using Firefox.
    Everything works perfectly on Chrome.
I have tried all the solutions previously suggested such as disabling hardware acceleration but nothing helps.
I am ready to absolutely ditch Firefox..... This is so frustrating..

Does it make any difference to disable the protected mode feature? The feature has security benefits, but is not compatible with all systems for some reason. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file.
The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:
    * Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]

You may need to exit and start Firefox up again before this takes effect.
    Any improvement?

  • Why does Firefox try to launch Adobe and/or Quicktime when I close Firefox? What is it loading into those programs?

When I shut down Firefox, it tries to start Either Adobe Reader, Quicktime, or both. It has done this ever since the first time I installed an used version 4. The applications do not actually launch, as in a window opening, but they are then present as a process in the system, and I have to close them from the Task Manager. It usually launches just one, but, if it's trying to launch one, and I use Task Manager to close it, it then launches the other. If I hurry and stop that one, Firefox reports that it messed up, and wants me to keep using the Internet for its own purposes that have nothing to do with what I was using the Internet for. This never happened under previous versions of Firefox. Do I need to revert to a previous version? I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security, and it shows I have no malware or the like on my computer, which could cause this. So, why is Firefox trying to do things I did not ask it to, and then expecting me to let it phone home to tell about it when I stop it. By the way, out of good practice, I often close down my Internet connection before closing Firefox, (in case I do get something like a Key Logger loaded, to prevent it from sending its final report before the cache is cleared), but this also happens when I have not yet closed my Internet connection before closing Firefox, so I do not think that is the issue, nor should it be. Your question below about when it happens does not provide for the answer "Every time Firefox Closes", so I picked the closest such answer.

This can be caused by clearing the cookies via [[Clear Recent History]].<br />
    * Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
You can try to exclude the cookies to test that.<br />
You can let all cookies expire when you close Firefox to remove unwanted cookies and keep the ones with an allow exception.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
If you use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the cookies when you close Firefox then Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash and starts a plugin-container process for each plugin and possibly for each cookie (?) and that can add extra time if there are a lot of cookies to remove and also can cause an unresponsive script error to appear.

  • Massive stability issues. Firefox crashes often.

Ever since Firefox updated to the latest version, I've been having massive stability issues. I downgraded back to version 19, but it is still very unstable. I have to force-quit often when it becomes unresponsive - a dozen times a day or more.
    Things I have tried:
    - Updating all plugins.
    - Scrubbing my registry.
    - Clean install/reinstall.
    - Deleting tracking cookies.
    - Scanning for viruses and spyware.
    - Downgrading to previous version.
I want to continue using Firefox, but this has gotten unbearable.
